Revealed: The massive 'doubt' mistake that may seal Rodgers' Liverpool fate. Ambition-Fail?

After today's damaging 4-1 defeat to Arsenal, Liverpool's chances of qualifying for the Champions League have taken a major hit, but there's still a mathematical possibility of salvaging a place in the top four, and winning the final league 7 games should (arguably) be a major priority for the Reds. Brendan Rodgers has other ideas, though, and after the game, he displayed a defeatist attitude that is, in my view, more fatal that the defeat itself.

In his post-match press conference, Rodgers betrayed a stunning lack of ambition when he told reporters:

"We haven't performed and it has cost us. I very much doubt we'll be in the top four now come the end of the season, there's too much ground to make up. Now we must really focus on the FA Cup and that's going to be very, very important for us".

Even if Rodgers privately believes that the team has no chance of making the top four, he shouldn't declare such a thing in public. It's a sign of weakness, and shows that he's basically given-up on the league season.

What kind of message does it send when a manager of Liverpool FC capitulates so easily? There are still 21 points to play for, and given the topsy-turvy nature of this season, anything is possible.

Rodgers' comments may also have a psychological effect on the players; why should they bust a gut to win the final seven league games when the manager (seemingly) has no faith in their ability to make the Champions League?

A major part of Rodgers job is to motivate the players, but his fatally misjudged capitulation after the Arsenal defeat is not conducive to effective motivation in any way, shape, or form.

I highly doubt FSG will be impressed with this abject defeatism; winning a domestic cup didn't save Kenny Dalglish from the chop, and I doubt it will be any different with Rodgers.

As Rodgers may soon discover, writing off the club's league season at this stage is a major mistake, and it's possible that he may have just sealed his own fate.

  3. Mate, my first post was intentional, I beat you on heart joke! Remi has proved himself reliable even off the bench. We rejected him, remember he flew to USA to join us ready to sign. He's in the right place at the right time which is a sign of a good striker.

But Balotelli is quality as well
I honestly think we should stop this pressing system
Emre Can does not suit it either

  8. my gosh, if Mourinho does this it's be brilliant mind games.

Perhaps Rodgers just wants to put the pressure off our players.
We can't expect to finish in the Top 4 but it's still achieveable

    ReplyDelete
  9. Oh come on, being realistic isn't a sign of weakness, nor does it mean he's given up. If he'd stated he believes we will still make top four he would be slated for being delusional or for his misguided hubris.

I don't really believe it matters what he says in public so long as he is working hard to rectify our mistakes and get the best out of this group of players for the remaining games of the season.

    Two jobs are hard

he is being told to be attacking outlet
    and a defender

that is why he is out of position a lot , he is doing two roles

if we scrap 343 go 442 , moreno would get back to what he was doing at Sevilla

    ReplyDelete
  11. That makes no sense whatsoever. All good full backs are 'two job' players.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I think if we signed Remy we would be in the top four now.

  14. Brendan Rodgers is a clever man who sees Markovic at Melwood everyday. The problem with playing Lazar Markovic in forward positions is he goes missing for long periods and doesn't seem to demand the ball like our other creatives do.
Coutinho will actively hunt the ball down to try and effect play.Adam Lallana hasn't been great this season, but he's not afraid to get on the ball and express himself.Other players give it to Raheem Sterling because they know how direct and dangerous he is.RS plays like he wants to be on the ball.Markovic isn't brave enough in possession. He seems content with letting others do the creative work.
I watched some of his matches for Benfica.I didn't think he was good enough for Liverpool and he's done nothing to change my mind.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Have to agree I just don't think he's the man for the job as much as I wanted him to succeed. .

    ReplyDelete
  16. What was defeatist today was not playing Sturridge from the start . If he can come on beginning of 2nd half, he could have started.

    ReplyDelete
  17. At RWB?

How many times has Rodgers deployed Markovic as a forward???

    ReplyDelete
  21. Well spotted! A manager, particularly a Liverpool FC manager, should never capitulate and demoralize his players in this manner knowing very well there are 7 games and the current top-4 have to play each other a lot. This is quite unacceptable and BR should do better in his dealings with the media and his charges!

By the way, his media comments are becoming a big liability in many ways. The way he handled Balotellie's latest misbehaving is also very amateurish. Instead of dealing with the matter in-house, going out and announcing to the world that he has an ill-disciplined player does not help the club. It creates an impression of discord and ill-discipline within the team besides portraying him as a manager who is weak and unable to control his players. Today is a sad day all round!

For me the only two players right now that can go to greener pastures are:

    Raheem Sterling
    Phillipe Coutinho

for the rest this is as big as it gets for now

so you're right they ahve to get it

  28. We have better options than Markovic at right wing back. When Liverpool have a healthy squad.Jordan Ibe will take that position back when he recovers.Unfortunately we have plenty of defensive fullback options but not many attacking ones.To use your favourite phrase. It's been square pegs in round holes this season.

    not to that extent

as a wingback there is an extra emphasis on attack

  31. Come on Logan, the length of time you've been a fan would suggest your easily old enough to understand the concept of tact.
Surely you must see that today of all days is not the time to be repeatedly telling everyone 'I told you so'
Also perhaps like myself Orme is busy drowning his sorrows and it's an easy time to rub people up the wrong way at the moment.
Surely they'll be countless articles soon to follow where you can reinforce your opinion of Brendan without getting as aggressive reaction.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Now I finally have your view on Rodgers Jaimie.

Spending almost £120m and a finish outside the top 4 is going to be acceptable for FSG?

    I do not think so.

  34. And also continuously hanging the Sterling saga out to dry via the media.

Someone get this guy a muzzle.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Also for the worst start to a league season in almost 50 years comparable to Rodgers first half of his debut season?

He has even claimed that the squad this season is the best he has had to work with since joining the club.

    Foot in mouth.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Don't agree to be honest. Fair enough if they weren't trying but it's down to Rodgers for me.poor team selection and players out of position. Obviously a lot of poor transfers too.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Saw this coming. Hopefully Liverpool will find a good replacement.

    ReplyDelete
  38. A player who works hard off the ball, could play lone striker or in a partnership. He knows the back of the net. All for 10mill! It's these sort of decisions that hold us back. Sadly I said at the start we would regret it, we are. What an embarrassment to borini that Sterling is playing up front instead of him. We committed top 4 suicide when we entered the season with our strike force.

    ReplyDelete
  39. But why was he so poor defensively playing 4 at the back??

    ReplyDelete
  40. There is no 'I told you so' going on here.

I was Rodgers biggest fan 2012/2013 and 2013/2014 so you can say all you like.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Joke of a manager.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Can't complain , the current top 4 teams have the most number of quality players in the squad. To think our strike force consists of Borini & Lambert. Balotelli was a stupid gamble, when Remi was there for less. We need quality, ready made quality. Either that or we employ Southampton's scouts.

Yeah you know this bcos you have a crystal ball?

    ReplyDelete
  52. I do not need a crystal ball.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Liverpool are not like manchester united who can attract top players without any champions league football.Sterling will leave and rodgers will waste the money by buying Charlie Austin and Walcott.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I cant see Liverpool beating Blackburn on Wednesday and even if the do get to the final Arsenal will beat them again. 5th place fits Liverpool squad at the moment as the teams above us have world class players in their squads. Rodgers has to do his best in getting Liverpool into the top four as I cant see them attracting top class players in the summer without it.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Is there any way we can convince Carlo Ancelotti to manage Liverpool?

    ReplyDelete
  56. Not pussyfooting or sitting on fences is great, but banging the same drum so much and so loud that you give everyone a headache is entirely different.
X amount of people on a football forum can't all be wrong and you've been sworn at quite a lot today.
I was merely trying to rescue you from yourself, after all we are all here with a common interest. I'm going to enjoy the boxing now so will leave you to it, have a nice evening. ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  57. Definitely. You can talk about tactics and formations all you want but our biggest problem is that we are lacking real quality players . Rodgers is in the job long enough to have a better squad and had spent a lot of money. .

    ReplyDelete
  58. Just when you think things can't get any worse

    ReplyDelete
  59. Yes please but highly unlikely.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Promise, no square pegs in round holes ok.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Players still need to do basic's right

    ReplyDelete
  62. Code is going to streak across Anfield and give Gerrard a big go away kiss.

    Watch this space.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Maybe they aren't good enough. ..

    ReplyDelete
  64. Maybe ,but would another manager do any better ?

    ReplyDelete
  65. Reverse Psychology, basically the only way to increase the hope for a Top 4 finish.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Well I'd hope a better manager would bring in more quality players.maybe a more high profile manager would find it easier to bring in the big names we have been missing out on, who knows? I just think Rodgers has had his chance and no point letting the same thing happen next season again.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Koeman wants to go to Real Madrid .

    ReplyDelete
  68. Really? Good manager tho..

    ReplyDelete
  69. I do agree ,It will be interesting to see how much longer FSG sticks with BR .

    ReplyDelete
  70. You need quality to make that final ball, to finish off an opportunity. Do you think Mata would have fluffed that Markovic chance? I think Rodgers has to be accountable. Now next season Origi comes into a team which will need to him to fire on all cylinders, which is grossly unfair.

    ReplyDelete
  71. We have a weaker squad than Arsenal, admit it or not, that's the harsh reality. In fact I think we have overachieved especially since the turn of the year.

    ReplyDelete
  72. When he agreed to Balotelli and Lambert who are not even making the bench?

So not sure if you are saying it is unfair towards Origi(just let me know which one) but Rodgers has dug a very deep hole and cannot get out of it,

    ReplyDelete
  73. Season ended last week. This is just the next game of the play-out of the schedule. We made a decent run but we are thin with red cards and the remaining quality is pretty weak. Truth is we can score, our midfield is suspect as is the remaining defenders. Markovich is largely useless as a winger or midfielder. Rakitic was the right choice not this guy......
Let's all pray the summer transfer window yields quality and not more Allens and markovics, Lovren and lallana's. Only Lovren was the greatest let down. These other three don't add anything except squad depth and way too pricey at that. Very frustrating. thanks Stevie.................

    ReplyDelete
  74. Not fair to Origi. This young boy has to now carry more responsibility than he ought to, just like Sterling.

    ReplyDelete
  75. My view all season! Wish it would happen.......

    ReplyDelete
  76. Where did I cover him in blankets and absolve him of blame?

All I stated was that his finishing 2nd was more impressive than Dalglish winning the league cup.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Football changes very quickly.Only a few weeks ago, Liverpool were top of the form table and on a superb unbeaten run.I was confident of a top four place.Fast forward a few weeks, performances have nosedived. We lost two big matches and now there's clear separation from our rivals in the table. It's not mathematically impossible, but realistically we have no chance of a top 4 finish.

    ReplyDelete
  78. I did not refer to you covering him in blankets otherwise i would have used you in the sentence.

All I am saying is that Rodgers has done nothing to deserve a 4th season. Rafa had six season but at least won the CL, FA Cup and took us to second. I do not want him back but there is no bloody chance in hell Rodgers will achieve the same so giving him another season is wasting time which this club does not have.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Rodgers has come up short again, Can and Hendo should have played in center instesd of the useless Allen and Lucas, Lovren should have started in place of the old man Toure. Our performance was that of a team with no confidence, Arsenal took the piss and got away with it, just like Manure did.

    ReplyDelete
  80. I don't know about the scoring part. Sturridge is the only one who can consistently finish in our squad. Coutinho has a nice shot but we can't rely on it to win games. Henderson has been scoring a lot lately, but the fact that 2 midfielders (Him and Gerrard) are top scorers for us doesn't show well on our side. Sterling, again, just not a natural finisher. Tap ins, yes, but has proved time and time that he just isn't a finisher.

Unfortunately, if Rodgers stays, I think it will be another year of ''transition'' unless he makes miracle transfers.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Completely agree.he must be held accountable. I know there is a transfer committee but surely he has a big say in who comes in.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Nicolas Chamberlain9:20 pm, April 04, 2015

Say what? Koeman is true socio, a Barca legend. He will never go to Mardrid, never.
I wish that Ancelotti or Mourinho could manage us one day. I still have faith in Rodgers but for one of these two I would sack him in a heartbeat.
We all want trophies and bring back our club to where we should be by now already.
We are still under construction but we missed a golden opportunity after last season.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Yeah, but it was clear our run was on an end. Swansea, Southampton, Blackburn. All games these games unfortunately showed us that it was just the fact that teams didn't know how to play against us, and those 3 teams easily figured us out. So teams of even higher quality, like Arsenal and ManU were already on set to beat us. Something needs to change, and it's just 108% true we can't expect CL next season.

    ReplyDelete
  84. That's the thing, no hindsight needed. Remy can play as a lone striker or in a partnership, has pace & knows where the goal is. Chelsea are desperate for good form, and Remy has won the last two games for them. Some fans arrogantly laughed at him calling him Costa's understudy, bench boy. The fact is he can be trusted to cover. We only have Sterling. The only quality we have is Sturridge, Coutinho & Sterling are not there yet. Henderson is on his way & Lallana is a No show against big teams. I agree with your view on Markovic, I'm not convinced either, he's an 800m runner aka Mr headless chicken.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Huge effort needs to be put into winning the FA Cup.Blackburn at Ewood Park will be a tough match for a Liverpool team not playing well and lacking confidence.Obviously we'll start favourites, but i think it will be a nail-biter like Bolton in the last round.

    ReplyDelete
  86. That's the thing tho, we shouldn't be 'still under construction'.how much time does Rodgers need? We have hardly any top players. I think we are destined for 5th or 6th at best if Rodgers stays.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Nicolas Chamberlain9:27 pm, April 04, 2015

I wish that Ancelotti or Mourinho could manage us one day. I still have faith in Rodgers but for one of these two I would sack him in a heartbeat.
We all want trophies and bring back our club to where we should be by now already.
We are still under construction but we missed a golden opportunity after last season. Rodgers is a bit naive in our away games with the top sides or in our home games when losing seems something that should be avoided at all cost. I'm thinking about our home games with Chelsea last season and our latest home defeat, but especially in our away games we don't look a solid top side. We are sloppy, constantly missing golden opportunities and conceding way too easy. We should be buying experience and players that are close to be the finished product.

We can't rely on inexperienced youngsters if we want to win throphies.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Nicolas Chamberlain9:31 pm, April 04, 2015

Well we failed to replace Suarez, and brought in two or three players that we shouldn't have bought that's why we still under construction.
The loss of Gerard will also be something Rodgers underestimated.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Truth is against the top teams we get exposed. This final run meant we faced Man Utd, Arsenal & Chelsea. We had to take points from them. Man Utd was our best opportunity but tactically we got it wrong. Without Saurez we don't belong in the top 4. Saurez in our team today & the least we get is a draw! Brendan hasn't got the quality personnel (his fault) or the nouse to outsmart the big managers.

    ReplyDelete

No, the opposite. he likes Liverpool.
There is no bigger challenge in world football than bringing back LFC to the European elites. He knows that. It would make him immortal in world football. Porto is still his only real touch of magic. Al the other times he had the budget to build a winning side.

    ReplyDelete
  95. And I will sing and jump time and time again is a normal fan reaction to winning trophies.

    ReplyDelete
  96. If that statement above isn't reverse psychology, I'd take Rafael in a heartbeat. And sack Rogers even faster.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Too many times ordinary fans could see the right move and he didn't..

    ReplyDelete
  98. Have a slight feeling that something will go wrong during that rovers game, I really don't know how BR manages to say he'll focus on winning the FA Cup after getting the fist from Arsenal. Would be a miracle if we pull out with the cup though.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Pako Ayestaran please

    ReplyDelete
  101. Lucas's first game back from injury, Toure not played recently either. Lovren is carrying an injury.

    ReplyDelete
  102. I want to see Classic Benitez-Mourinho rivalry again. I'm sure he;d rather commit suicide than losing to Mourinho. I believe with SAF gone, Rafa has a serious chance of finally lifting the title with us.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Rafa, Come back, you can leave a lasting legacy this time. Trust me!

    ReplyDelete
  104. Ya but he's the man who brought them in.hes the man who should answer for it!

    ReplyDelete
  105. I meant Rogers' statement.
Though that interim shyte kinda ruined it for me..

    ReplyDelete
  106. Funkdoc the bottom line is Liverpool need to buy better.Looking back at what we picked up last summer so far Emre Can is the only player i view as a success story.
Moreno is decent going forward but needs to work on his game defensively.Lallana hasn't produced anywhere near the same level of performances he did at Southampton. He can get better and i expect more from him next season.
I thought Mario Balotelli was a worth a roll of the dice, but he just doesn't fit into our system.Markovic i have made my feelings clear about him.Waste of money.Javi Manquilio was a victim of our mid season system switch. He looks decent in a back four, but doesn't have a good enough attacking game to play wing back effectively.Dejan Lovren has been a forgotten piece in our defensive jigsaw. He didn't start today.Nothing more needs to be said.
Divock Origi obviously has zero game time but ignoring reports and watching a few Lille matches.I think he'll be a good impact player next season.
That's nearly 120m spent last summer. We need to target better players in the next window.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Oh I get ya now.ya pathetic comments..

    ReplyDelete
  108. I think that nails it! I agree with everything you said especially about Markovic.

    ReplyDelete
  109. As I always said- till there is math in it, we mustn't surrender. I thought of mind games too, but not so sure..

    ReplyDelete
  110. Markovic should be given more of a chance, he looks lost in the side presently and devoid of confidence. he's 20 years old playing in a foreign country in a league which is totally different pace to what he's used to, in a side that is trying to find it's own identity, for a club with a fanbase with absolutely huge expectations, hopefully he'll reflect in the summer on his first season, that the club will find where to utilise him and hopefully he'll kick on. there have been glimpses a few times this year when he's in full flow, he looks absolutely unplayable, its up to the coachng staff to find a way to get him performing consistently. maybe when Gerrard leaves, the midfield will be more balanced ( i know he wasn't in the side today) and the forward line will not be so makeshift and he'll find his niche in the side. I think his transfer fee on viewing his current contributions plus his past stats should be about £10m not £20m. He basically scored 7 in 49 apps in a Benfica side that smashed the league and basically have shooting practice in all but 4 games each year. I wouldn't have bought him simply based on that and I certainly wouldn't have bought him plus Lallana.

    ReplyDelete
  111. I just don't get the conceding now.

I mean, all he had to say was, "if we keep playing this way, we won't get 4th". And we all would have agreed with that statement.

But to seemingly throw in the towel with 7 games to go is just dumb.

    ReplyDelete
  112. 2-3 games is too soon for me to jump on the anti-rodgers-bandwagon again.

    ReplyDelete
  113. Not after these games, after this statement.

    ReplyDelete
  114. It's more than 2 or 3 games tho.what about the first half of the season?

    ReplyDelete

    It is the right time.
Now club can pre plan for the summer
find out what Sterling wants ,
and adjust their transfer plans based on Europa league footy

This 7 week head start will hopefully mean tehy sign right players.
Markovic and Lovren have been epic failures

rafa benitez won title, finsihed 6th with Valencia , won title again year after

point is Rodgers is hopefully a lot wiser through the experience
because the fact is we are a developmental team right now, chelsea are finished article

Sterling clearly wants to join an oil club rather then a club operating with moneyball , Rodgers talks ahve no barring on that.
Why are you attacking him at every turn? .
Rodgers has made mistakes , we all make mistakes,Rodgers learned form his mistakes and took us on a 13 match unbeaten run.
the last two games we lost to better sides ( even in last 20 years) and more richer sides.

Rodgers is not to blame much
we cannot even blame him for transfers
if he had it his way his team would be like this:
    ........................................Sturridge
    Sterling/Salah...............Coutinho...Mkhitaryan...Sanchez
    .......................................Henderson

  119. That's the thing I think people are missing...

The reason why we are behind is not because of the last two games.

We are behind because we didn't start playing well until mid-December.

There aren't any teams in the league who can go through the motions for the first 4 months of the season and live to tell about it.

We can at least get good signings

i look at the Markovic signing

he has clearly not been heavily scouted

    ReplyDelete
  121. Mourinho will never manage another team that doesn't have a billionaire owner. He won't risk his "Legacy" by trying to take on a tougher assignment.

    ReplyDelete
  122. Obviously they just spun a wheel with a bunch of names on it and Markovic's name was where it landed.

    ReplyDelete
  123. But we should be 'developed' or closer to it by now.the truth is we have let our top players go and replaced them with mediocre players.if he had made wiser investments we would be battling it out for the league. I'm sick of all these bullsh1t excuses

    ReplyDelete
  124. Definitely agree with that.

    ReplyDelete
  125. Exactly. If it was his first season he could be excused but for me his time is up..

    ReplyDelete
  126. Thanks for the chuckle on this dark day!

    ReplyDelete
  127. Yes We all knew Studge was made out of glass and we needed real quality reinforcements in the summer. Remy has a similar profile as Studge, not as gifted but just as mobile and can finish. I can understand the Balo move but Lambert and Borini?! Woe is me....

    ReplyDelete
  128. In my opinion, he'll get another season.

I just wish he'd stop talking so much. It would be "outstanding" if he just stopped

    ReplyDelete
  129. I hope he doesn't. Can take anymore bullsh1t interviews about how good we played even when we lose.plus another batch of average signings and he'll put us back years.dont like saying it but the man has to go..

    ReplyDelete
  130. If LFC can`t beat them (top 4 club)...then join them!!!As much as BR and the players are to blame,FSG has to change their player buying policies....

splash the cash and buy our way to an EPL title and continued CL football...or we`ll still be talking about LFC continually finishing between 5-8th place in EPL 10 years from now !!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  131. Well, it is only a song lyric...

    ReplyDelete
  132. I think, it's the final nail in BR's coffin. FSG has spent money & they have given BR enough freedom/fund. It was maturity & patience for the part of FSG that they didn't sack him in Dec - gave time to deliver. But, when LFC didn't buy any player in JAN, I am sure that the back is on wll - BR was given the task to qualify for CL with that squad or leave; next Manager 'll get the money to build his team.

I like BR, his style, his grooming of young players, but he is yet to be a top team Manager. Almost every big match, he is caught tactically by a world class Manager. I think, Benitez is coming back - after Hodgeson, KD & DC, FSG 'll do it in a much polished way. If Real doesn't win anything, Carlo might get the boot from those Madrid Cartel Bosses, best choice for us?

  134. you dumb as*** still fall this manc passing himself off as a Liverpool fan. Wake yp and ask yourself ' when has this pr*** said anything decent about the club, team, players or fans? Wake up!

  135. Nice article, who wrote it, LOGAN.

    ReplyDelete
  136. The players Liverpool have bought in the window last summer apart from Moreno and Can i see no future for the rest.
Moreno has been horrible of late and Can hasnt been a lot better but both will improve of the rest Lallana if he ever gets fit.
The reality of it all is we have a very ordinary side for the amounts spent.
Sure we have a young side and a few will improve in time but there is some and i am usually patient with new players like Markovic who just show nothing potential wise even Hendo at his worst showed a bit.
As for BR being sacked no it would be a poor move we need stability over all else give him another season disband the transfer committee and bring in a DOF regardless of what BR wants.

    ReplyDelete
  137. What do you expect when you hired an average manager = Average Players & Frustration.

    ReplyDelete
  138. From the start fans have been telling BR to buy another good supporting striker and to get rid of Balo but no BRs arrogance has caused us the defeats. What is the point of having 50% fit Sturridge. The last few games are always crucial and many more players will get red cards and injuries. Why wasn't he prepared for this. Spending £100 million and can't even get into the last 4 would be a disgrace to him and his incompetence as a coach. We are critisizing about Sturridge fees but BR is prepare to waste so much money on keeping dormant Balo. Don't think he can get us the FA cup by then more red cards and injuries.

    ReplyDelete
  139. LFC are not rich enough to challenge MU, Chelsea , Man City, Arsenal when buying top class strikers they are always taken away by them. Owners must be prepare throw money . A single good class striker easily will nowadays costs £60 million upwards. Do we have such money? We can't even keep sterling for much long. When we had Suarez team was doing good lost him and that's the end of us. LFC have no money power.

    ReplyDelete
  140. I don't blame Rodgers for his comments because they are obvious. Making fourth will be difficult een though mathematically possible. How the hell is that defeatist? The article overblown his comments. Our squad have too many disappointing additions and two of our better players are missing via red card bans; Can and Skrtel. A third, Sturridge looks out of sorts and missing his old rhythm.........
This summer has to be better than last summer and January or keep Ibe on the team with Rossiter and our bet kids and bring back Flanno. Forget Markovic, Allen, Enrique, Jones and maybe Lallana. They have brought nothing.......

    ReplyDelete
  141. What's the point of qualify for CL just for the sake of qualifying when you don't have the quality in all field to compete, I would rather bite my tooth and hope we didn't qualify just to see BR get sack.

    ReplyDelete
  142. For once I agree with you .
BR is taking to much flak , the players look flat the last couple of games

    ReplyDelete
  143. But just before the manc game Rodgers said we were aiming for second? Foot in mouth.

FSG have some big decisions to make and if they continue with the current managerial setup then we will have more square pegs joining the club to fit round holes.

This season has been a absolute disaster.

    ReplyDelete
  144. Rodgers will refuse to work under a DOF so for that reason he can go which is exactly what FSG will tell him.

This club cannot go another season where money has been pissed down the drain like it has this season and fact is give Rodgers/the committee another transfer window and we will see more square pegs round holes/players who do not fit or are not good enough joining the club.

    ReplyDelete
  145. I think he's removing the expectation and pressure that our players obviously can't live with.
Privately he'll be telling the players that things can turn around just as quickly as they went down but he would of been hammered had he said that we still had a chance of top 4.

    ReplyDelete
  146. Bring all the hats you have ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  148. Pieter Engelbrecht7:31 am, April 05, 2015

Totaaly agree jose used his spending power to buy a decent team. With liverpools budget not even he will be intersted in managing Liverpool

    ReplyDelete
  149. What ever happens in the next window one thing i think is certain we will be desperate to offload players to buy more i just hope its more quality over quantity.

    ReplyDelete
  150. If Ibe doesn't ask for ridiculous wages of 150K+ then some fans won't mind.

    ReplyDelete
  151. Quality? Show me one player of quality that was signed at the start of this season when £120m was made available and CL was on offer. Most clubs can sign up and coming youngsters like we have done over the last three seasons so we are f***** in my honest opinion unless we bring in someone with pedigree.

Now we will need to sell first as the squad is massive, we will not recoup loads back on the players we want to sell, we do not have CL on offer, Rodgers has shown that he cannot atract top quality players so where does this leave Liverpool FC at this point?

    ReplyDelete
  152. Not at all. I have seen through Rodgers all season and believe FSG have too.

Go look at the very first comment I made on this thread.

    ReplyDelete
  153. I can't believe all this mumbo jumbo from everyone. Some of you might have short memory!! He was assistant to the chosen one and I think he has taken a lesson or 2 from him, remember he talks about football philosophy and would have you believe this is a typical Mourinho strategy to take pressure off. From my point of view it is brilliant to take pressure off and let the team play to its potential with the added pressure and see what happens with a couple of games to go.

    ReplyDelete
  154. BR is a forward creative attacking manager and no one can argue with the type of football we play when going forward but its when the opposition has the ball when the problems set in. He has history of letting in more goals than games played. This means he will have to overcome this by either being better at defending or scoring an average of 2 per game to even the balance. Last year we did this and were successfull in the league, however this year he threw more money at the defence in the hope the problem solves itself. This has not worked and the fact we are not scoring compounds the issue even more. In conclusion, BR cannot manage to create a team that can defend, stats say it and the amount of money he has threw at it but still no change. Unless we get a strike force or team that can score more Than 2 goals a game on average, then we will be average!!!

    ReplyDelete
  155. We will see its not just Rodgers the whole club doesnt have the appeal it once had.
But spending is the key and we need to likely pay overs to get such quality.
The club can likely only afford 2 quality signings so a decent mid and a striker with whatever is left over a right back.
Although he was poor last night i think Moreno will be a good signing and Can you can have the rest.

    ReplyDelete
  156. Getting a prolific striker (hopefully an injury free one) is our no 1 requirement. Keeping Sterling is our 2nd most important requirement especially when we can only turn to Balotelli, Lambert and Borini as backup. If Sterling goes we will not be able to replace him with a player of the same quality, especially if Rodgers is still in charge.

Sending all the pressure onto players like Ibe and Origi will once again show the ineptness of how this club is being managed. With Rodgers that is what will happen should Sterling leave.

But if we can appoint a manager with some pedigree or a DOF and a top young coach willing to work under a DOF like De Boer then who knows what might happen.

Rodgers cannot take us any further I am afraid. His 3rd season is almost done and we are still in 'transition' after all the cash that has been blow.

Does not wash and is unacceptable.

    ReplyDelete
  157. Borini Lambert and Balotelli are gone Loges they may have to keep Balotelli because we need a buyer the other 2 though are certs to go.

    ReplyDelete
  158. Point I was trying to is we will have more Balotelli's, Lambert's and Borini's to look forward too with Rodgers in charge.

    ReplyDelete
  159. Time will tell i suppose i mean Loges we may get Lacazette and Vietto and they may fail badly nothins guaranteed.

    ReplyDelete
  160. Lacazette will cherry pick his next team, their is no chance of him joining us now.

Vietto is 21 and plays in Spain. He will need time to adapt and to expect him to propel us into the top 4 is simply madness.

We have more than enough young players. Now we need experienced and proven players = not happening with Rodgers.

    ReplyDelete
  161. When it comes to proven strikers its slim pickens and i would spew if the club wasted a fortune on the likes of Falcao or Cavani.

    ReplyDelete
  162. There was no chance of Falcao or Cavani joining under Rodgers anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  163. Dont think Falcao will have too many takers.

    ReplyDelete
  164. This is the worst set of players we have had at the club for many years , all but 3 of the signings, Sakho, Can and Coutinho who show potential have failed to deliver with the only other exception being showboater DS. Who becomes more lazy and languid game by game. There is some £170m worth of duds in this squad . Fear for us now as the damp squib getting more moist by the minute.

    ReplyDelete
  165. When was the last time BR did not use the word outstanding in an after match interview!! even the home draw against Hull he said we were outstanding. Embarrassing!!

    ReplyDelete
  166. Lallana, Lambert,Lovren, Balloteli, Borini,Moreno,Allen,Aspas,Alberto,Mignolet,Markovic £153 Million any takers in the top for for any of them !! Don't think so

    ReplyDelete
  167. Quality post.

It's simple. You either buy or find quality.

The odd exception notwithstanding, we do neither, ergo, we slip further and further away from the top0 of the game.

    ReplyDelete
  168. His balls are his business, but all of the available facts support his claim

    ReplyDelete
  169. I see Spurs over-taking us as well. They have the London attraction for players.

    ReplyDelete
  170. It's messed up, that's for sure. Even when we do go after the sort of quality LFC should buy - Willian, Salah, Costa et al - we can't close the deal.

Then there are the times the papers run the "buy Kono" story for a month...Ayre flies out there to close the deal...stays there for 3 days...and comes home empty handed.

    ReplyDelete
  171. Phil Moore babbthanthompson11:47 am, April 05, 2015

Rogers is taking pressure off the team which they appear to have been struggling with knowing the importance of the last 2 games and I'd expect the manager to be aware of that. I appreciate your difference of opinion but that's why hes a manager and you're a journalist and you constantly criticise the manager.

    ReplyDelete
  172. I've had enough of Brendan Rodgers and Ian Ayre.

    BRING BACK RAFA!

    ReplyDelete
  173. Could happen unless there are some big changes this summer!!

    ReplyDelete
  174. There is problems working all the way through the management set up. There seemed to be a stupid amount of confidence in sealing the Sanchez deal and then going to what is quite obviously a last chance gamble in Balotelli. Whoever is supposed to sow these deals up needs to take a decent amount of flack as they shouldn't be sure of anything until it is done and gambles should not come in to it.

    ReplyDelete
  175. You have to deserve it to get it and we didn't. Our run up to United was good though. That is why you posted much less. You really shouldn't feel so much glee at us losing. Pat yourself on the back somewhere else. I have no time for it.

    ReplyDelete
  176. Theres alot of criticisms that can be made of Rodgers, but
    for once,
I would like Rodgers to show that he is a big match winner.

He's come up against the big names of the game many times over his tenure as manager at LFC, not winning most of these encounters and those rare victories, were merely scraped over the line.

Any LFC manager MUST be a big match manager.

    Is Rodgers?

    Sadly, I think not.

    ReplyDelete
  177. B Rodgers even if he wins the FA Cup should be sacked. His love of wasting millions millions on average players has costed us. And his love for his Love Child ( J Allen(24)) is comical now.

This summer B Rodgers should be given his P45, along with I Ayre and the transfer committee :

And one of these managers should be brought to the club:

    F Rijkaard
    F De Boer
    D Simeone

And the owners need to give the new Manager at least £70m and whatever the manager can bring in on clearing the dead wood average pathetic players we still have clubs books.

So that means these 12 players who are simply not good enough for Liverpool and rarely effect games playing for us need to be shown the door this summer:

    Defensive Players:

    GK: B Jones(32) CB: S Coates(24) CB: K Toure(34)

    RB: A Wisdom(20) RB: G Johnson(30) LB: J Enrique(28)

    CM: J pony/useless Allen(24)

    Attacking players:

    AM: L Alberto(22) FD: F Borini(23) FD: I Aspas(28)

    FD: R Lambert(33) FD: M Balotelli(24)

And these 9 class quality players should be brought to club this summer:

Main Priorities: 5 Class Quality players in: GK CB RB LB DM

    GK: A Begovic(27) Of Stoke for 8-£11M To compete with S Mignolet(27)

    CB: T Alderwierld(26) Of A Madrid or S Kjaer(26) Of Lille for £7-£11M to compete with M Skrtel(30)

RB: M Montoya(23) Of Barcelona for £7-£9M to compete and Cover J Flanagan(21)

LB: A Robertson(20) Of Hull for £6-£9M to compete and Cover A Moreno(23)

DM: M Schneiderlin(26) Of Southampton for £18-£21M to compete and Cover L Leiva(28)

Those 5 will help make side more solid and harder to break down and bring more class quality competition for places within defensive positions we so desperately need.

    Marquee signing:

    CM: M Verratti(22) Of PSG for £24-£30M to compete and cover E Can(20) ( S Gerrards Successor )

    Attacking players: Three in:

    RW/ LW: L Vasquez(23) Of Real Madrid for £6-£8M to compete with L Markovic(20)

FD: L Vietto(21) Of Villareal for £10-£14M to replace F Borini(23) and to compete and cover D Sturridge(25)

    FD: C Benteke(24) Of A Villa for £16-£20M to replace M Balotelli(24) and R Lambert(33)

    ReplyDelete
  178. As soon as saw J Allen(24) and K Toure(34) in the line up i was going mad, two dead wood average clowns in side are comical.

Henderson(24) should of played in CM
Manquillo(20) Or Flannagan(21) should have played at RB
Lovren(25) should have been used he is three times a better defender than Toure(34) just he has had poor season, but still much better centre back than ageing comical mistake waiting to happen K Toure(34)

And Lallana(26) alongside Coutinho(22) would have caused Arsenal problems, Markovic(20) has had two good games all season and yesterday he confirmed he is not even £10M player let alone £5M player, the pass he gave Sterling was shockingly poor

E Hazard(23) was in same position yesterday, Remy has simple tap in and wins chelsea the game.

    ReplyDelete
  179. no excuse not to play with Can in the centre, with either Johnson, Manquillo or Fanno at right back.

    ReplyDelete
  180. Players bought by rodgers.he's at fault for our past two games. We've made two ordinary teams look perfect. And it hurts. #Rodgersout

    ReplyDelete
  181. Well I think so. U remember what rafa did with the o5 team. He won the cl because he knew how to motivate.

    ReplyDelete
  182. I can't believe brendan rodgers is not under more pressure from the press and liverpool fans in general. This man has been shown up and if he had managed at any other top club he'd be out of a job. The performances keep getting worse. Fsg is usually ruthless with regards to managers at Boston. I wonder why this clown has stayed in the job.

    ReplyDelete
  183. People are saying br is taking a lot of flack? Over the last three years he's spent more than 150 million which is comparable to any of the sides above us. Yet he's mis used the money and bought players who have either been inconsistent or injury prone. The ball stops with him. Top teams have top managers who've won trophies on these shores or another. Is br a top manager?

    ReplyDelete
  184. Well he signed them. He's the reason they are here.

    ReplyDelete
  185. That shouldn't be the case because we've spent more than them since rodgers took over.

    ReplyDelete
  186. That is not the case. I don't think a lot of poor teams can spend more than 150 million in the last 3 seasons.

    ReplyDelete
  187. We've bought Allen and Borini
    They've bought Sanchez and Oezil

    ReplyDelete
