Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has named what appears to be a defensively-minded team for this afternoon's crunch-clash with Arsenal.
There are no less than six defensive-minded players in the starting line-up:
FULL TEAM: Mignolet, Can, Toure, Sakho, Allen, Lucas, Moreno, Henderson, Coutinho, Markovic, Sterling
SUBS: Jones, Johnson, Lovren, Sturridge, Manquillo, Borini, Brannagan
ARSENAL: Ospina, Bellerin, Mertesacker, Koscielny, Monreal, Coquelin, Cazorla, Ramsey, Ozil, Alexis, Giroud
SUBS: Macey, Gibbs, Gabriel, Flamini, Rosicky, Walcott, Welbeck
* Sturridge clearly isn't fit enough to make the starting line-up. Given his proclivity for injury, it's probably a good idea to be cautious.
* Lallana is not in the squad, so he probably didn't pass a fitness test.
* Balotelli not in the squad again? Is he 'ill' again? If not, it's humiliation for the Italian as ORdgers has chosen an untested youngster for a spot on the bench instead of him.
Based on the personnel, it looks like Rodgers could switch formations and go with 4231:
--------------- Mignolet
Can ------ Toure ------ Sakho ----- Moreno
------------ Lucas ---- Allen
--- Markovic ----- Hendo ------ Coutinho
----------------- Sterling
The other alternative is 343, but with Hendo alongside Coutinho
--------------- Mignolet
----- Can ------ Toure ------ Sakho
Markovic -- Lucas ---- Allen ---- Moreno
----------- Hendo ------ Coutinho
----------------- Sterling
My prediction: 2-1 Arsenal.

Today Rodgers is either going to show that he does in fact have a plan or is out of his depth.
ReplyDeleteReally hoping for a win but if he has not changed things up then I fear Arsenal are going to hammer us.
I hope it is 433:
ReplyDelete......................................Sterling
.................Coutinho........................Markovic
..........................................henderson
................................Allen.....................Lucas
....................Moreno........Sakho.........Toure......Can
............................................Mignolet
If it is 343 it proves Rodgers is not good enough to maange lfc
keeping the same formation that has been found out by Balckburn,SWANSEA and Man united
For Rodger its a must win match.. top 4 finish wont be achieved else.
ReplyDeleteIt is a fight for our status with Arsenal as well
ReplyDeleteSuarez
Sanchez
and now Sterling
is showing Arsenal are slowly taking our perch just like Ferguson did with Man united
Would that be the same formation that turned the team's fortunes around after a slow start? Love it how after one defeat everyone is back on Rodgers' back.
ReplyDeleteBlackburn and Swansea had has us figured out.
ReplyDeleteTop mangers
ReplyDeleteChange teams and formation based on
teh opposition
rodgers keeps the same system until it becomes completely redundant
look at diamond
433
and now 343
343 has picked up our season a few ordinary results can be over looked overall just remember the players have some responsibility in these performances too particularly the last one.
ReplyDeleteMate i respect you , you are always civil.
ReplyDeleteWith the players that have been selected I would go with
ReplyDelete----------Mignolet------------
Can Toure Sakho Moreno
---Hendo--Lucas--Allen----
------------Coutinho----------
-----Sterling-------Markovic-
That is what I am hoping to see
Rodgers has used various systems to get the best out of the players at his disposal. How do you know the system is defunct until it stops working...? i.e. why fix it if it isn't broken. The system wasn't at fault against Utd, they wanted it more and dominated midfield. We were poor, that was down to the players desire in my opinion. Never helps when you lose a player to a red card either...Pretty certain we beat Swansea and the Blackburn game came was the third in 7 days.
ReplyDeleteSorry for the negativity but there is absolutely no way we are going to win today, just have this gut instinct.
ReplyDeleteBit confused with the team but hey, this is one match the result would just matter, 3-2 to LFC.....! Any other result = Yikes!
ReplyDeleteThere was no midfield
ReplyDeletethe analysis showed
Man united squeezed the middle of the park this took Coutinho,Lalllana and Hendo out the agme
Moreno and Sterling got a lots of the ball but had to put crossed in as there was no option in midfield
to pass back into and link play up with.
It looks a through plan to me
What about that proposal you submitted to FSG
ReplyDeleteWhere is that going , you know w the one i am DOF and you are manager
The guys t TIA think it is a diamond formation
ReplyDeleteBe careful. You will be told you are not a fan of this club.
ReplyDeleteWeren't yoo the ball boy?
ReplyDeleteI'm not saying it doesn't necessarily need to change, but you can't tell something is done and dusted till it stops working. The players do need to take responsibility for the Utd game as they failed to impose themselves. How come Gerrard went steaming through Mata (completely fairly) when he came on, and no one else showed that kind of desire in the first half. Other players should stand up and do the same. I think it is very dangerous to suggest that Rodgers is out of his depth - he has made several changes formation-wise to the team since he came in which have improved us. At least he has the ideas and balls to change things around unlike a certain Spanish coach just under a mile away.
ReplyDeleteI am worried Arsenal are playing well JKs 2-1 prediction has calmed my nerves somewhat.
ReplyDeleteWho is on our bench? An unfit Sturridge, Borini who has barely played and Brannagan. Arsenal are not unbeatable my any means but we have to do it iwth the first team
ReplyDeleteWhen are the fans going to turn on the owners?
ReplyDeleteThey were quite quick to latch on to Hicks and Gillet
New formation this is what i have been hoping for.
ReplyDeleteMy prediction is Liverpool will win to nil ! The 'boy who loves to play football' to score the only goal. He's looking for a new club so will want to impress ;)
ReplyDelete...What are you doing Toure?
ReplyDeleteWhat is up with them today?
ReplyDeleteMaybe Rodgers should go to a back 4?
ReplyDeleteAll three of the previous teams figured us out but guess what, Rodgers persists. Same old same old.
Oh f*** off you miserable old git. No one has time for your perpetual need to prove a point about Rodgers. Our formation has nothing to do with our players losing concentration and taking stupid risks
ReplyDeleteNo you go F*** yourself.
ReplyDeleteGetting battered!
ReplyDeleteBut why?
ReplyDeleteToo slow in midfield.
ReplyDeleteAnd you can't even use the silly 'don't read my post' excuse this time. You replied to me.
ReplyDeleteeverybody knows how to counter 3 at the back, no presence in midfield, no strikers on the pitch
ReplyDeletejust a few points
arsenal are the leagues most in form team atm
As usual you chose the insulting route though as always.
ReplyDeleteI called you an old git. How f***ing hurtful. Stop crying.
ReplyDeleteHa, go look at nick1811's reply to me.
ReplyDeleteBet he is going to say the same to you.
Calm down chaps. BOTH OF YOU used unnecessary gutter language. It's all hands on deck the boys will need it today.
ReplyDeleteGive me your postal address, I will ship off that dildo to you straight away.
ReplyDeletewell you know I don't agree with you too often ;-)
ReplyDeleteUnlike you, DerBaumMann isn't annoying.
ReplyDeletebalotelli should be on the bench over borini.
ReplyDeleteto be honest i'd have also played johnson
Looking better now anyway lads.
ReplyDeleteOH FOR CHRIST'S SAKE MARKOVIC!!!!!!!! HE HAS NO END PRODUCT
ReplyDeleteMarkovic deserves a slap!
ReplyDeleteHOW F***ING HARD IS IT. HOW MUCH IS HE PAID TO DO THAT?!
ReplyDeleteWe're battering 'em
ReplyDeleteit's getting slightly better
ReplyDeletewhat do you say guys 4:0 after 20 minutes still achieveable?
So Rodgers ditches 3 at the back and we are already looking better. Up your's Nick.
ReplyDeleteWell ill throw in 2 eggs and a tomato.
ReplyDeletesUMS mARKOVIC UP
ReplyDeletetOO SCARED
COME ON MARKOVIC
ReplyDeletei just can't see his talent,I can't see it
ABSOLUTELY INCENSES ME THAT HE CAN SCREW THAT UP
ReplyDeletewe have no striker on the pitch
ReplyDeleteI still question his technique
ReplyDeleteWow my non-insult penetrated you harder than you intend that dildo to.
ReplyDeleteI am all for giving players chances
ReplyDeletebut i dont see any future
for
balotelli,Markovic and Lovren
just imagine having sturridge/balo insted of markovic up front. sterling and sturridge would have finished that off easily
ReplyDeleteyeah f*** of sterling. that shot is worth 20K a week.
ReplyDeleteDid Sterling visit Rodgers dentist
ReplyDeleteSterling has new set of teeth
ReplyDeletehe has got rid of that gap in teh middle
and whitened it
Now we are playing with 5 at the back. So now it is about hitting them on the counter. If we had stuck with 3 at the back Arsenal would have been ahead already.
ReplyDeleteNo Mamadou Sakho injury
ReplyDeletepls
rodgers got his teeth done just before he dumped his wife.......... I think LFC is Sterlings spouse at present
ReplyDeletethe match is the most boring in quite some time
ReplyDeleteGive Sterling that contract
ReplyDeleteHim , Can and Coutinho
are worlds apart
We're playing 3 at the back, stop trying to save face
ReplyDeletehaven't you watched his latest interview? he clearly isn't interested in signing a new contract at the moment.
ReplyDelete+ what has he done to be 'worlds apart'?
Henderson, Sakho, Skrtel are far more important than him
Ibes back in the next game
ReplyDeletenext pl game
ReplyDeleteRodgers prefers Borini in stead of Balotelli...
ReplyDeleteMadness!
Markovic need to raise up his game. That pass to Sterling was beyond ridicilous. We are playing well but with Sterling up front we are toothless.
And Sterling believes he is worth more than £100k a week based on this performance??
ReplyDeleteTo the rest
ReplyDeletehenderson looks so poor as does markovic
Go watch the game when we are in our half of the pitch.
ReplyDeletewhy do i even reply to you?
ReplyDeletewell he is our only attacking threat
ReplyDeleteliverpool can sell him for 30m
BUT WHAT IF
WE BUY ANOTHER LAZAR MARKOVIC?
Sterling is still developing. I really hope we can keep him but after his latest interview maybe we should sell him after all, but only to a foreign club.
ReplyDeletef*** you markovic. Because you can't excecute a simple f***ing lay off we're losing
ReplyDeleteShocking defending. Even Bellerin can score...
ReplyDeleteFFS.
too deep. we're not engaging them in midfield again. The players are mentally weak.
ReplyDeleteMoreno costing us a goal AGAIN poor defending
ReplyDeleteTrue that. At this level this is totally unacceptable.
ReplyDeleteWe are looking like a youth team when we are in attack.
OH FOR HEAVEN'S SAKE
ReplyDeleteGame over.
ReplyDeleteGame over.
ReplyDeleteThat's shit goal keeping
ReplyDeleteim going for 5
ReplyDeleteThat was mignolet's corner.
ReplyDeleteHe should have save that.
today could be payback like a MF for our 5-1 bashing
ReplyDeleteOH F*** OFF TOURE
ReplyDeleteMarkovic is such a waste of bloody space. If the guy can't gain enough composure to provide a simple f***ing pass to a team mate then he's not yet fit for this level. I'm sorry.
ReplyDeletethe problem we have now is toure is as bad in a back three as Skrtel is in a back four.
ReplyDeleteYou are by far the most annoying guy on this forum.
ReplyDeleteDo you even support our club? You are always burning players even the ones that don't deserve it.
Rodgers deserves the red carpet treatment for going into the game with the same approach as we saw vs Blackburn, Swansea and UTD.
ReplyDeleteHowever, let's blame the players?
EXACTLY
ReplyDeleteI f***ing knew Markovic's f*** up would come back to bite us. He plays like a boy.
ReplyDeleteYes that chance could have changed the match
ReplyDeleteThis is all FSG fault.
ReplyDeletetehy want to keep developing young players
rather then sign proper quality like Ozil and Sanchez
It was such a simple pass.
ReplyDeleteMarkovic is destined to be 20M down the drain.
bloody hell, my connection broke down and now were 2:0 behind?
ReplyDeletewhat the f happened?
3 mate
ReplyDelete3-0 behind
ReplyDelete3 nil
ReplyDeleteToure has had an absolute shocker. Serious investment is required in our defence. Markovic been poor too
ReplyDeleteWell this escalated quickly.
ReplyDeleteWe are in for a very long 45 minutes.
Mignolet should have save this as well.
Please shut up.
ReplyDeletewell goodbye CL
ReplyDeletegoodbye Sterling and Coutinho
ReplyDeletewe need players mentally fit to handle the top level. I don't care how old he is, you simply don't butcher chances like that. And he has form with it, the guy completely lacks any composure.
ReplyDeleteThis is revenge served cold : (
ReplyDeleteS T F U you I D I O T
ReplyDeletestop bombing us with your nonsense-postings.
FSG tried to sign Sanchez in summer
We don't deserve CL. This is what you get when you rely in a 20y/o kid to score all your goals.
ReplyDeleteOh and you want Rodgers and the transfer committee to sign more square pegs for round holes?
ReplyDeletewho cares about sterling, coutinho is underrated he'll probably stay
ReplyDeleteThat much?
ReplyDeleteI am the most passionate of all of you
ReplyDeleteI want quality like Torres,Alonso,Mascherano
gerrard
The thing with Markovic is he had done nothin in Portugal and we paid 20 mill for the dope.
ReplyDeleteit's funny how we're saying this every season
ReplyDeleteAgreed
ReplyDeleteLucas out, Sturidge in.
ReplyDeleteWell as hard as it for me to say this...I'm sticking with LoganLfc..
ReplyDeleteWhy not offer substantially more wages?
ReplyDeleteThe reality is that we are under construction.
ReplyDeleteThat is unacceptable after last season but its just the way things are. Have some patience mate.
we looked at our best with Henderson and Lucas in the middle of the park for much of our unbeaten run. Not to blame Allen but he shouldn't have started today.... but according to Rodgers he had to be accommodated. Two out and out holding mids is a no no
ReplyDeleteDone watching right now. What a friggin farce. And where is our 100k a week is not enough man. Sell the stuck up punk off asap this summer. Just don't give the money to Rodgers. If we're not careful we can say goodbye to Coutinho too and be left with a team of sicknotes and crocks. Rodgers deserves all the credit in the world for changing the system but with injuries and suspensions now the money he's wasted over the past three years is coming back to haunt us big time. I'm fine with him managing the team but someone else has to come in and decide on the players because that whole committee is clueless. And Sterling's next offer should be 0.00 a week. Arrogant little gobshite. He can go and do a Torres and warm the bench somewhere.
ReplyDeletewe did according to Sanchez himself
ReplyDeleteI retract my statement from yesterday Jaimie, maybe Skrtel is the glue that holds us together
ReplyDeletewhoa sterling is really showing why he needs to be top earner. way to change the game, or even be visible. i think kolo played himself out of contract
ReplyDeleteMy very first comment on this thread was that Rodgers is either going to have a plan or be out of his depth.
ReplyDeleteWe started the match with the plan that has been proven to be figured out. That surely makes him out of his depth?
Rodgers
ReplyDeletesticking with 343 until it stops working and this is what happens
Blackburn was a hint
Swansea was a bigger hit
Man united was emergency
This is hopefully the end of it
Some serious dough needs to be spent on this team wow and it isnt like we havent just spent a fortune.
ReplyDeleteThe plan hasn't been the problem, a succession of individual mistakes has, as per usual
ReplyDeletewe need Jordon Ibe
ReplyDeletesoon as possible ,
yeah, by today's inflated standards
ReplyDeleteWell he strolls around the pitch up front like he's Romario. Too bad he lacks the goals and attitude. Off with him. I just hope we can hang on to Coutinho.
ReplyDeleteBlame the players. Rodgers is exonerated.
ReplyDeleteToure is completely lost out there, making everone panic. And Markovic, well...
ReplyDeleteBalotelli (the way he is playing)
ReplyDeleteLambert
Borini
Lallana
Markovic
Allen
Lovren
Johnson
Manquillo
Moreno? ( certainly last two weeks)
Toure
not good enough
But what are you blaming Rodgers for then? The plan or psychology? Because the plan was working until they capitulated
ReplyDeleteToure should never be allowed near the first team..so shambolic
ReplyDeleteThe players are the ones on the pitch making silly mistake right? Or is that Rodgers too?
ReplyDeletei like that waving arms around dissappointed to his teammates when he dribles against the first defender and loses possession! "FU for I being poor"
ReplyDeleteblame FSG
ReplyDeleteif rodgers had his way he would ahve had Sanchez and Mkhitaryan and Salah
We were on the the back foot from minute one till Rodgers changed things.
ReplyDeleteI can't help but agree.
ReplyDeleteThe players he's brought in maybe? The money he's wasted? We lost our one reliable striker last summer and he left us with sicknote Sturridge as our only option up front. If that isn't failure I don't know what is.
ReplyDeleteWell all said and done we are not exactly playing against a poor side, they've been just as dodge at back but there finishing has done us, got to give oppo credit too. Was always going to be a hard task today, lets hope we at least win the second half and don't get a total thrashing.
ReplyDeleteAnd who bought the players?
ReplyDeletePerhaps so, my point is Logan shifts the goal posts.
ReplyDeleteShifts the goal posts. OMG.
ReplyDeleteyeah 20k more
ReplyDeletehow about 120k more
tehn he ha ssomething to think about
in 2005 we had the highest paid player
and we should ahve made Sanchez the highest player
it has cost us 16m balotellia nd 70m cl
Ffs Logan don't break into your usual Rhetoric. Of course Rodgers takes his portion of the blame but you said the plan has been found out. That isn't the case. We've not been played off the pitch, we've conceded 3 soft goals due to individual errors
ReplyDeleteSorry, did that insult you too?
ReplyDeletefinishing done us all season to be fair to be even this close is remarkable
ReplyDeleteThe guy is a disgrace to the shirt. He can take his babymomma and f off to, well, whichever idiot pays a lot of money for him really.
ReplyDeleteThat is your opinion right :-)
ReplyDeleteNo f***ng shit you idiot
ReplyDeleteYou mean the players the transfer committee brought in. Granted Rodgers is part of that but you can't blame him for everything
ReplyDeleteCome on!! This is Arsenal, a team we thrashed 5-1 last year. They are not some Bayern or Barca that cannot be beaten. We had the chance when Markovic was through but we wasted it and that is why we are here.
ReplyDeleteYip. Pound for pound Sterling has the most inflated idea of his own importance
ReplyDelete*smirks*
No bloody s*** sherlock.
ReplyDeleteI agree with that but at the end of the day it's Rodgers who buys the players and sends them out on to the pitch. It's definitely a joint responsibility but at the end of the day the buck stops with Rodgers (pun definitely not intended)
ReplyDeletefills me with confidence today the core of our team. starts with passing quality of toure in middle defence, then passing quality of lucas above him. and if those two finally manage to get the ball to our lone striker, he will drible against first defender? why exactly does arsenal have lionshare of possession?
ReplyDeleteThe point with getting a top striker is getting a decent one to come Liverpool are no longer an attractive proposition to top players.
ReplyDeleteI hope Arsenal win the EPL.
ReplyDeleteLazar Markovic and dehjan Lovrenhas to be the worst signing ever in history of lfc , 40m same cost ascOzil
ReplyDeleteEl hadji Diouf
Stewart Downing
robbie Keane
Alberto Aqualani showed even more
up there with Andy Carroll for m e
Just like Greg who told me I was talking BS about Coutinho and Johnson speaking Spanish.
ReplyDeleteI do not have to shift goal posts my friend.
If he's part of it, he's part of the problem. Plus, in the committee each has their role to play. The likes of Ayre are just in there for the money part. Rodgers, the chief scout and that analytics guy are responsible for identifying the players and I'm sure Rodgers has the final say there. We can hardly blame the moneymen for getting Rodgers the players he asks for.
ReplyDeleteNo way. they are the most self entitled fans ever
ReplyDeleteChelsea for me bcos they were patient for 40 years
Rodgers DOESNT buy the players. He sits on a committee which identifies potential targets. The club then try to close the deal. If Rodgers had had his way we'd have had Costs and Sanchez up front today with Willian, Salah and Mkhitaryan supporting them
ReplyDeleteNow we have gone to a back four ;-o
ReplyDeleteThere are plenty of good player out there who haven't made a name for themselves yet. But what did Rodgers do? He brought in a player with a famous name and a lousy attitude rather than a player with talent and the attitude to want to show it.
ReplyDeleteYeah, funny how we conceded 3 goals once he reverted to your preferred formation? Just saying.
ReplyDeleteListen mate, they are a quality side attack wise and on there day they can beat the best in the prem league. I was never comparing them to the likes of those top european sides .
ReplyDeletewith moreno as a full back that doesn't change anything
ReplyDeleteNo he tried to sign Sanchez then Remy and was ultimately lumped with Balotelli
ReplyDeleteI'm really starting to think Rodgers isn't the man for us.
ReplyDeleteAnd those players did not want to join us so we had to look for other ones. So we immediately resort to the likes of Balotelli and Markovic? There is a lot of grey between black and white.
ReplyDeleteYou rather do move goal posts. One minute it's his fault because of the plan, next minute it's because of the players' individual errors.
ReplyDeleteThen you need to criticise the club as a whole, not just Rodgers. Sacking him wouldn't change a thing
ReplyDeletePoint is that he has no plan otherwise he would have done something different when the match had started.
ReplyDeleteWe went into the game the same way VS Blackburn, Swansea and UTD.
Clueless.
So... We're losing pretty badly. Can't say he warning signs weren't there in recent games. I wouldn't solely blame the players or the manager. Both need to be much better.
ReplyDeleteYou identify so many targets the further you go down the list the less likelihood of success.
ReplyDeleteYou're the only clueless one here
ReplyDeleteYes that is right. Rodgers is exonerated.
ReplyDeletesanchez didn't want to come to liverpool that's just as simple as that
ReplyDeletewhy is sterling wing back
ReplyDeletewhy not two up front
i'd agree. A bit of stage fright on both fronts.
ReplyDeleteim getting braincancer reading your posts
ReplyDeleteLOL. We're talking about most self entitled v most plastic. I know who I'd rather.
ReplyDeleteI resty case. Same old Logan. You make a few reasonable points then get over excited and revert to your close minded drivel. Our debate is over
ReplyDeletehe wont accept that
ReplyDeleteA problem I've noticed is that often when we're in midfield and the final third there are no obvious or easy passes for our ball-carrier to make. This is surely a system problem, or a laziness problem. We tend to hang on to the ball for too long. Sometimes even when the easy pass is on, our players tend to take the difficult route, which sometimes ends in a goal and more often ends with us losing possession or losing momentum. I don't know what to conclude from this.
ReplyDeleteAwesome stop from Mignolet. He's really being hung out to dry by his team-mates today.
Yes that is right, Rodgers is without a doubt exonerated.
ReplyDeleteWho cares
ReplyDeleteMy preferred formation? And what exactly is that?
ReplyDeleteNice play from Allen.
ReplyDeleteI didn't turn the TV off because of the score. I think Jim Beglin's commentary has given me cancer.
ReplyDeletewelcome back Pete no joy for you tnite in either league m8.
ReplyDeleteI think its clear why Chelsea didn't buy Markovic now, he's nowhere near the finished article in terms of his development. next year he may come good, this is his first season in a foreign league, h's looked like hes over-thinking things, trying too hard, not relaxed, stressed, feeling pressure etc. I was always thinking why chelsea didn't go harder for this player and when we got him i thought "bad deal for us". was like we were trying to prove something by getting beat for other players signatures by chelsea.
ReplyDelete
