Liverpool are reportedly considering a summer move for 'excellent' Arsenal full-back Carl Jenkinson, who is seemingly on the outs at the Emirates after spending the season on-loan at West Ham.
According to The Mirror:
* Brendan Rodgers has 'identified' Jenkinson as a replacement for Glen Johnson.
* West Ham United are also interested sin signing the 23-year old.
Since breaking into the Arsenal team, Jenkinson has struggled to hold down a first team place, and earlier this season, he revealed his frustration with life at the Emirates. He told reporters:
“I didn’t want to have another season sitting on the bench. It was starting to drive me up the wall. I wanted to get out and play football, and I’ve realised that I’m happiest when I’m playing regular football"
£12m-rated Jenkinson is in good form for West Ham this season, and unlike at Arsenal' he's practically an everpresent for West Ham:
* 29 appearances in all competitions.
* Averages 83 minutes per game this season.
How does Jenkinson compare to Glen Johnson, the man he's allegedly replacing? This season's league stats for both players:
* Passing accuracy: CJ: 77% | GJ: 83%
* Passing accuracy: Opposition half: CJ: 70% | GJ: 73%
* Duels won: CJ: 43% | GJ: 60%
* Aerial duels won: CJ: 36% | GJ: 80%
* Interceptions/blocks/clearances: CJ: 4.8 per game | GJ 3.5 per game
* Recoveries: CJ 4 per game | GJ: 3 per game
* Tackles won: CJ: 79% | GJ: 83%
* Goals: CJ: 0 | GJ: 1
* Assists: CJ: 2 | GJ: 0
* Chances created: CJ: 1 every 1.3 games | GJ: 1 every 4.6 games
* Successful crosses: CJ: 1 every 1.3 games | GJ: 1 every 7 games
* Unsuccessful crosses: CJ: 4 per game | GJ: 1.5 per game
Rather surprisingly, Johnson seems to be more solid defensively than Jenkinson, which is surprising considering the Liverpool man is often defensively suspect. Johnson's passing accuracy is also superior.
However, going forward Jenkinson creates chances more often (at least one per game); creates more goals (2 assists), and also exceeds JOhnson when it comes to successful crosses.
That said, Jenkinson has made 101 unsuccessful crosses in 25 league games this season, so there's clearly room for improvement there (!)
For £10m-£12m, is Jenkinson a viable option, and/or an upgrade on Johnson?

A player who is defensively more suspect that Johnson, is a non-starter.
ReplyDeleteI would hate t see us get him id rather get martin Kelly back! We need t do another raid on Southampton for clyne and Bertrand
ReplyDeleteNo.
ReplyDeleteNo. Just No. I'd rather give Mclaughlin or Wisdom a chance than him. We have Flanno anyway.
ReplyDeleteIf this rumor has any substance and we sign him…I'll be very very worried for our transfer prospects going forward. The definition of a mid-table club transfer
ReplyDeleteYES!
ReplyDeleteHe Like Sturridge,Coutinho ,Can and Sakho
HAS BIG TEAM AND GAME EXPERIENCE playing for Arsenal FC
but i would prefer Montoya
Strikers: Austin,Berahino,Ings , Jay Rodrigueze
ReplyDeleteWingers: Mane,Tadic, Redmond,Roberts,
Midfielders: Delph,Hughes, Wanyama, James ward prowse
Right backs: Clyne, Bryam,Gibson,Mings
Defenders: Reid, Fonte ,
As long as we avoid these players we should be fine
We finish 2nd we buy Southampton players
ReplyDeleteChelsea finish 3rd they buy the Spanish champions Athletico Madrid players
WHAT?! You're completely against English players from lower teams, even ones that have had relatively good seasons, and this joke of a RB comes along, and you want him? He's literally worse than Johnson!!
ReplyDeleteWhat next, Cleverly?
Look he played for Arsenal as a youngster
ReplyDeleteso he must be good.
Cleverly would be a good signing as well he was an integral part of a title winning team that won it by 11 point
i would have him over Joe Allen for sure
Well, Ward Prowse is class, but yes I agree...
ReplyDeleteI know you're not too keen on Soton players, but what do you think about Alderweireld?
Can't tell if this is sarcasm or not...
ReplyDeleteHe sucked at Arsenal. That's why they're trying to get rid of him to a bottom half epl side.
Cleverly is vilified by Utd fans (literally... he's at Villa right now). And for good reason too.
Don't mind him. He's a closet Arsenal fan.
ReplyDeleteThink he finally went off the deep end.
ReplyDeleteYes. He's well into the abyss.
ReplyDeleteThey used to call him the new Iniesta
ReplyDeleteso how is he vilified?
Rodgers can get out of him what Ferguson got out of him
like Rodgers got best out of Sturridge,Coutinho,Sakho and Can
who were cast offs , of Chelsea,Inter Milan,Bayern munich and PSg respectively
I am okay with Alderweireld and Betrand
ReplyDeletethey played for big teams
In all fairness, there have been about 1,000 'new Iniestas'.
ReplyDeleteBesides, I thought you wanted Rodgers to get the axe?! Now you're talking about him bringing the best out of players...?
Coutinho would have joined Southampton who were in the bottom half
ReplyDeleteif we did not sign him
maybe Arsenal are like Inter Milan
I'm so confused. This is strange... even by his standards...
ReplyDelete'he played for Arsenal as a youngster
ReplyDeleteso he must be good', so you must mean Bendtner?
I want FSG out , they are the sole reason why we are in this mess.
ReplyDeleteDon't give me they saved us , their was another owner keen.
Rodgers is not good enough
but Only Ancelotti,Mourinho,Guardiola, Conte,
are at this time
Better then Lambert and Borini
ReplyDeleteLook at his international career as well.
There is a reason why they call him "Lord Bedntner"
but i would not have him , no pace or dribbling ability
Better then Lambert and Borini
ReplyDeleteLook at his international career as well.
but i would not have him , no pace or dribbling ability
Boy, they don't look happy..
ReplyDeleteSebastian Larsson and Jonathan Djourou also played for Arsenal youth.
ReplyDeleteOkay you got me there , congrats!
ReplyDeletePeople call him L0RD for a reason G0d dämn itttt!
ReplyDeleteSaying Jamaica is in Africa makes complete sense compared to whats going on now...
ReplyDeleteDjourou must be the most intelligent person ever, getting contracts playing dart with his family.
ReplyDeleteYeah but a lot of it is unfair
ReplyDeleteLook at the critisizm Heskey got
they make him sound as if he is the worst ever
when infact he has more then 100 pl goals
Saying Heskey has 100 PL goals is like saying David James is the best keeper of England history with most clean sheets! every body knew he was well, not a goal keeper!
ReplyDeleteYou wouldn't have Bendtner. Fine. But again, why Jenkinson? He has more flaws than Bendtner ever did.
ReplyDeleteHe is solid defender
ReplyDeleteFrom what i have seen
We need that with moreno on the left hand side going gung ho attack
Heskey was a good player
ReplyDeleteI saw his goal on lfc tv vs everton , him and Owen looked awesome together
plus that 5-1 win vs Germany
Always a hand full for defenders
He's the opposite of a solid defender. He's even worse than Johnson in defense. No joke.
ReplyDeleteWhat because the stats say so?
ReplyDeleteIf teams looked just at stats Modric would be playing in league 1
Stats is what Comoli followed when buying Downing and Adam
Uh? ;-)
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you are not serious.
ReplyDeleteNo, because I used to watch arsenal games all the time, and cringe when I see him play now.
ReplyDeleteA photo was supposed to be there, from the new kit photo shoot...
ReplyDeleteHeskey would get into this team 100%
ReplyDeleteover ,Lambert and Borini
maybe even Balotelli
I agree he was a very good player and created lots of goals for other players but not the most prolific scorer himself.
ReplyDeleteFair enough
ReplyDeleteYou just confirmed what I said.
ReplyDeleteI'm starting to get the feeling we're getting a nice long trolling right about now...
ReplyDeleteEither that or...
What a boring topic. But ngctc comes to rescue..
ReplyDeleteis boring forbidden word?
ReplyDeleteb o r i n g is a forbidden word?
ReplyDeletelord
ReplyDeletepotty mouth :P
ReplyDeleteso is Lorde
ReplyDeletejust take the e away
Just now?
ReplyDeleteI guess you are not having the most productive day?
ReplyDeleteDid have.. But then I came here..
ReplyDeleteMeh, we racked up the comment count to 50+ for like the 5th straight article. JK can't blame us for not trying...
ReplyDeleteEverything i say is genuine
ReplyDeletei may change my mind tomorrow but right now it is my real opinion
and met the nature's wonderkid
ReplyDeleteThat is how I got that b o r i n g is forbidden.. thought that the nature of the topic was such but nevertheless ngtcncnc,d made it a mind boggle..
ReplyDeleteRic Flair?
ReplyDeleteWhat do you think of those anyway....
ReplyDeletePersonally I don't mind them. I suppose the could be better, but the most important thing is the quality for the players, and New Balance is known for good quality. I've worn their shoes for at least the past 10+ years. I'm not old either, so that's a good chunk of my life :D
I lol at people too when they don't realize New Balance owns Warrior...
I AM GROOT.
ReplyDeleteDidn't know that one, cheers..
ReplyDeleteThank you for being YOU.
ReplyDeleteThere is this article on the bbc that says Jamaica has African roots
ReplyDeleteNever getting enough!
ReplyDeleteJust the first few lines of that article :
ReplyDeleteThe BBC's African Perspective programme is investigating what life is like for some of an estimated 20 million Africans who live in the diaspora.
Nick Davis in Kingston finds out what made some Africans voluntarily make the former slave island of Jamaica their home.
Christopher Columbus landed on the beach at Rio Bueno on Jamaica's north coast in 1494 and forever changed the history of this island.
The Spanish arrived and brought the Africans with them. They imported slaves throughout their 160-year stay and the practice continued under British rule.
Some of my students sometimes don't seem very proud to be called African, they associate the place with poverty, starvation
Anthropologist Barry Chevannes,
University of the West Indies
Jamaica's national motto is "Out of many, one people" - a description of the island's multi-ethnic background.
But with over 90% of the 2.6m population being black, the country looks African.
But does it feel African?
"It looked like home to me when I first arrived. Sometimes I'd make a mistake and speak to people in my Ghanaian language and then I'd suddenly realise, this isn't a Ghana," says Sophie Dawes who grew up in what was formerly called the Gold Coast, now Ghana
you truly don't understand how bad hicks and gillet were to LFC. do you get that one more year of there ownership and we would have been put under adminstration like the Rangers and sent to the lower division where every player would have be sold, our youth academy would have collapsed.
ReplyDeleteFSG are posting profits and redeveloping Anfield to give us even more profits in the future.
again go look up the Boston Red Sox pre FSG and then post and maybe you'll be able to understand how fortunate LFC truly is. i highly doubt you'll be able to comprehend it though
Yes... basic American history...
ReplyDeleteColumbus (who was a d*** by the way) brought a bunch of slaves over with him, but needed somewhere to manage them while he and his buddies took over South America. The african and native cultures mixed, and wallah we get Jamaica
A Baseball model does not work in football
ReplyDeleteI want an owner like Man city's ,PSG's or chelseas
It wasn't a baseball model. It was a business model, a financial model.
ReplyDeleteAs much as we want to separate the two worlds, the sporting industry is still run by money. If we don't manage it correctly (aka Hick and Gillette) we could be in deep, deep trouble. Not just on the pitch.
its a BUSINESS MODEL. LFC is a business just like Boston Red Sox. what is so hard to undestand about that?
ReplyDeleteThank you! Now i finally understand
ReplyDeletebut you can see why i got it mistaken?
thank you. maybe he doesn't understand the with FFP now in place man city and chelsea and PSG can no longer do massive expenses with out showing there is stable business at hand
ReplyDeleteThat is why
ReplyDeleteCity are signing players like De Bruyne,Sterling
etc
Yeah :D
ReplyDeleteAlthough, we're still not going to let it go.. haha ;)
i haven;t seen a single one of those players holding there jersey yet.
ReplyDeletewrong again.
city has already been put under FFP investigestion and was fined another instance and they will either lose a place in CL or get transfer ban or something similar
And even then, City are a relatively self sustaining club. They can afford it not just money wise from Mansour, but as a club.
ReplyDeleteTheir rise has been much quicker since his takeover simply because they were relatively stable. He didn't have to do too much before he could start pumping money in.
When FSG took the reins, we were a sorry excuse for a club. They could give us all the money they wanted, but until they could right the ship financially it would all just go to waste.
If you post further posts denigrating the site's articles (like the ones held in the word filter) you will be banned again. That is sniping. Still to discussing football.
ReplyDeleteYou do realize that was about nevergonna talking let's say amazing things below?
ReplyDeleteloool your actually a legend. everything your saying is true. we buy players who are overatted and useless, at least if we buy players like Coutinho who are rejected at big clubs but were bought because they had something special we can try get the best out of them. Berahino is class but i would take Vietto all day long. but i still believe Berahino is class and do think he will suit LFC alot, i mean alot. i want us to buy Moussa Sissokho, Luciano Vietto(make sure) and Yarmolenko. these are all good players with good records for their clubs, in europe and international.
ReplyDelete---------------------------------Mingolet
Flannagan--------Skrtel-------Sakho------Markovic
-------------------Sissokho----------Hendo
-----Yarmolenko-------Coutinho-------------Ibe
-----------------------------Vietto
if we can get 60M for sterling i would get Yarmolenko for 15m Sissokho for 15m and Vietto for 30m to make sure we get him. were better off without scumbags like sterling. we need more champions like Vietto
markovic useless up front and moreno terrible at left back so we mite as well put markovic there. against Bournmouth at left back markovic was involved in the first goal and scored so that could be his position. hes useless upfront no end product.
ReplyDeleteThese rumours are made up by his agent to try to get West Ham to pay over the odds for him. Liverpool have no interest in him!
ReplyDeleteWhy did we sell Kelly ,far better than Wisdom.
ReplyDeleteHow is it possible that Jenkinson is called excellent
ReplyDeleteand he replace's Johnson that has a better record than him ?
In the real world were we all live ,It's called going backwards .
No.
ReplyDeleteLots of people on here were slating Bertrand prior to his Saints move when he was touted for us. I couldn't understand why at the time.
ReplyDeleteClyne, Ward - Prowse, Hughes???? Tadic and Mane who you have spent all season praising? Why do you do it to yourself?
ReplyDeleteOh, I think you can tell whether this is sarcasm or not. Unless you're new here and have yet to experience the phenomenon that is 'code'.
ReplyDeleteAll black people have African roots. Simple.
ReplyDeleteI hate when people give Heskey a hard time. Every game the guy put in max effort and was proud to wear the red shirt. Contrast that with Balotelli....
ReplyDeleteI admire your honesty.
ReplyDeleteAll PEOPLE actually have African roots
ReplyDeleteThey are very red though
ReplyDeleteDidn't man city just get fined heavily and had their squad reduced in CL due to FFP rules being in place?
ReplyDeleteAlso an ageing squad....
You want LFC to follow their lead....no thanks!
