Wrong: Lawro slams Rodgers for ludicrous 'early' claim about £10m LFC star

According to Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers, £10m summer signing Emre Can is on the path to becoming a 'world-class' player at Anfield, but Reds legend Mark Lawrenson has poured cold water on that grossly premature contention, and insisted that it's far to early to making such ridiculous claims.

Speaking to reporters last week, Rodgers raved:

"Give him [Can] another couple of years and he could play in any team in world football. That's how highly I rate him. He is aggressive and I think he'll develop into a real world-class player"

Reacting to Rodgers' comments on Sunday, Lawro told the BBC:

"I like Emre Can. They [the media] are all shouting that he could be world class but he is not a full international for Germany yet so they have gone a bit early."

'Gone a bit early'? That's the understatement of the year.

It's not the media to blame here, it's Rodgers - he is the reason the press is harping on about Can being potentially 'world-class'; if he hadn't made that ludicrous claim, the media wouldn't be talking about it.

As Lawro says, Can is not even a full international, yet Rodgers is still peddling his trademark 'world-class' cobblers. Can, Sterling, Coutinho et al should just be left alone to develop their games without being placed under intense pressure to achieve 'world-class' status so early in their careers.

The irony, of course, is that constantly massaging egos like this often leads to an inflated sense of self-worth, which inexorably leads to players demanding ridiculous salaries to stay at Liverpool (Sterling, anyone?) It's a vicious circle, and Rodgers - who is blissfully unaware of the irony - is the creating the problem. It's amazing really. According to Rodgers:

* Balotelli is 'world-class'
* Gerrard is world-class.
* Sterling will be world-class.
* Coutinho will be world-class.
* Origi will be world-class.
* Sturridge will be world-class.
* Henderson will become world-class.

Wow - with all this potentially world-class talent in the team, it's no wonder Liverpool are so close to winning the league title this season.

Oh, wait...

Judging by Can's last two performances in midfield, he has a hell of a long way to go before he's even international class in the position, let alone 'world-class'.

  1. Jk what the hell is international class i mean because you cannot make the best team in the world/ Germany does not mean you lack international class.
Australia played at the world cup last year and along with a number of teams there and he would be one of the first picked i n a few of those teams let alone most teams that never got a look in.

  2. Off topic, apparently Carlo Ancelotti will be sacked at the end of the season. Should FSG decide to part ways with Rodgers which is not entirely out of the question then would Ancelotti be a suitable replacement for those on this site. I would welcome him, has had loads of success throughout his career and has managed in the EPL and been successful with Chelsea.

    Thoughts?

I don't think Can has the pace or the 'engine' to be in our midfield. Centre-back is perfect for him because he gets a bit of time on the ball there and it's a lot easier to read the game, but yesterday and second-half against Besiktas he was found out.
All our best play recently has stemmed from the midfield closing down their opponents then winning and moving the ball at speed. We did none of that yesterday.
Sorry, but we missed Joe Allen.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Emre Can is only 21 and has all the attributes to become a world class player. I think we missed Allen vs Blackburn so would like to see how he teams up with Can. Henderson should be playing further forward IMO.

    ReplyDelete
  5. They arent sacking Rodgers also the payout Rodgers would receive along with the cost of bringing Ancelloti would greatly negate Ancellotis ability to bring in talent because of a lack of available funds.

  6. Lawro quickly becoming JK's favorite legend :D

  7. i don't know if he's international class but i know Low is seriously monitoring Can and along with Brandt and Selke he want to make the future of the Mannschaft and take him for the Euro 2016.

Stick with Rogers. I don't want to be associated with a team that chop and change managers every other season. Rogers is shaping a team that will be a starting 11 of world class players in 3 years time (according to Rogers). All jokes aside he is a good manager and has proven it this season by coming up with a solution when people were calling for his head.

    ReplyDelete
  9. How do you know they aren't sacking him? If we do fail to finish 4th then I honestly cannot see any chance of Rodgers being here next season.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Well international class is hooey.just another bulls**t term which still does not describe a players ability properly.

    ReplyDelete
  11. well to be fair can and henderson dominated the match pretty easily, we just couldn't get behind their defense.
The team had an off-day offensively

    ReplyDelete
  12. Rodgers admitted he came up with a solution to late. What happens if our season pans out the same way next time round?

We cannot go another year through 'transition'.

I question how much of this 'overpraise' as you call it is Rogers' fault. I think this maybe tactics FSG have installed to bump up market value on the players for if and when they get sold. It's obviously part of their business model to try and invest early in "potentially world class players" then if the players do come good FSG can make a fat profit.

    ReplyDelete
  14. If recent form / last 3 months is anything to go by no chance what so ever i wouldnt even dream of it.

    ReplyDelete
  15. We will go through another year of transition they are a squad of young players with potential that doesn"t bring instant glory.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I'm sure Can will become good enough to play for Germany, but saying he's going to be 'world-class' when he hasn't even made a single appearance for Germany is ridiculous. It creates media pressure, which translates into undue pressure on Can to live up to that label. If he doesn't, the media will let him know about it, that's for sure.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Oh so how much more money are we going to need to spend to win the league? Transition my arse.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I like Çan...a lot. He is as good a CB as any we currently have. He can certainly play DM well enough. When he goes forward he usually beats the first man and heads for open space to draw defenders to him. If there is one weakness it's that he will hold onto the ball a lttle too long and get caught in traffic as the pitch crowds up in front of him. He'll learn that beating the first guy and drawing a defender to him is a job well ebnough done and he should look for a better ball handler to pass it to.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Hehe, yeah I was going to edit that in, but you beat me to it :D

    1) Rodgers is going nowhere. Although I understand this is hypothetical, we would gain NOTHING from a sacking. It would be another clearout for new personnel, another change in tactics, and another "transition" season claiming "Next year's gonna be the year..."

    2) He has nothing to prove. If he were to be the guy to come in, it would be like Van Gaal. He's doing it for the experience, not because he necessarily needs a move. Chances are, things would end up that way too.

    3) Along with #2, if we were to replace BR, it would most likely be for an up and coming manager, or someone who's never left his home country. Someone like Klopp, or De Boer, or maybe AVB. Or even perhaps someone LIKE Koeman (obviously not him specifically since he just moved to Soton). They have the name to attract players, but they are still quite young managers.

    4) I simply don't rate Carlo. Nothing personal. Its just that I feel the Real team that he's managing right now is just doing their own thing, no actual managing.

    ReplyDelete
  20. When Rodgers began we were threadbare its not just about money its time look at the squillions City spent on may i add ready made talent it took them years.
By the way Cities team was one of the most expensive ever assembled cost wise in the history of sport.

    ReplyDelete
  21. that's what i'm also afraid, Rodgers doesn't have the experience to blen in new players while having to deal with European and domestic competition, that's what has been our downfall this season.

And Real are having a bad season but are still like 1 point off 1st place and looking strong in the champion's league... you know the spanish press are quick to call a bad match a crisis when it concern Real or Barca

    ReplyDelete
  22. But we are playing good football now and in top form so why would we have to go through another transition?

Ah ha, maybe if Rodgers changes back to his favoured style of play?

If we had continued to play the way we did last season then we would not be having this discussion ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  23. Exactly. He has all the tools, but all too often we see these things not pan out exactly as expected. Right now we don't even know where he's going to play primarily, let alone if he'll have the drive and confidence to become "World Class" in that position, especially with all the media labelling distractions.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Transition does not mean losing for long periods it means adjustment the ones Chelsea and City have the luxury of no having to do.
Anyway you look at it their squads they are clearly superior to ours and although we all want success you must be realistic.

    ReplyDelete
  25. The Real team is has players which have an ego the size of mount Everest.

Ancelotti is one of the best managers out there and if you want to argue about that then so be it. What is the bet that he will deliver instant success if he was appointed at Anfield?

    ReplyDelete
  26. i get that but i feel you judge him based on the hype rather than on what it actually is, a 21yo playing his first year at Liverpool coming from an other country (i think he actually played less than 5 times in midfield for Liverpool and it has been in the cups).

    ReplyDelete
  27. Man City are going through a very rough patch. They probably have the best squad in the league but that don't mean they will win the league.

Rodgers has been here going for three seasons and has spent more than most managers in the world and still does not look like delivering any silverware. Not good enough for a club like LFC no matter how you want to spin it.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Maybe so but when you are coming from no where you spend thats ok to say City are having a rough patch but there is a reason a lot more teams dont get a dip at the top 4 let alone the title.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I wouldn't bet anyone could deliver instant success.

I'm not saying he isn't good, just not a GOOD FIT for LFC.

    ReplyDelete
  30. If Rodgers had to go without silverware this season and again win nothing next season would you still be of the same opinion?

    ReplyDelete
  31. Why is he not a good fit? He has more trophies and experience than most managers. It is called pedigree.

    ReplyDelete
  32. How long did Wenger go without silverware and it was with a squad he had fully assembled you have to be realistic.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Two Words: Welsh Xavi

    ReplyDelete
  34. Why are we talking about Wenger? When he came to Arsenal he delivered instant success and now they are nothing but a top 4 team.

LFC need to be taken to the next level. Whether Rodgers is the answer is doubtful especially if he had to go three seasons with out any silverware after spending what he has.

Next season = no silverware = more excuses IMO.

Rodgers has not shown that he has it in him to go all the way. Definitely not this season...

    ReplyDelete
  35. Managing Real Madrid is a case of 'your job is on the line no matter who you are'.

The players rule the roost over there, that is just the way it is.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I just explained why he's not a good fit -.- Trophies aren't everything. We don't need pedigree at the moment. Right now, Liverpool are a young team trying to recreate our image. We already had Kenny stabilize us, after you know who left. What we need is someone to give us identity. I don't want LFC to be "that team that Ancelotti managed for a few years and did something." He's already made his name in the football world. If he came, it would be Carlo's team # whatever, not LFC. He would come in, try to get his philosophy to work, and if it doesn't (which it probably won't for a year or two), he'll blame it on everyone but himself and eventually leave. Again, I'm not saying this for Ancelotti specifically, but for any big name manager who really has nothing to prove.

Again, draw parallels with Van Gaal. If we get Carlo, that's who we'll be, and frankly I don't want LFC to become that.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Come on Loges Arsenal went from the unbeatables to the couldnt win a 2 horse race team and why? tight spending and a salary structure.
You only have to look at our salary structure to realize getting top established stars is almost beyond us and we are struggling hard to keep what we have because of wage rules.
Is this Rodgers fault no would Ancellotti or the like want to work under this structure probably not me thinks.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Carlo Ancelotti is nothing like Van Gaal and is one of the most honest managers out there.

Rodgers complains about the Anfield pitch ffs. Let's see how Rodgers deals with a Madrid team full of ego's.

Ancelotti is a top manager whether you like it or not and there is no doubt that he will be able to deliver success at Anfield.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Did I ever say he wasn't a top manager? Just because someone's "good" doesn't make him fit for any team.

Let's turn the tables. Why do YOU think Ancelotti is such a great choice for LFC? BESIDES pedigree. I already said that doesn't matter for me.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Top managers are made by top players too Loges.

    ReplyDelete
  41. What structure? We had the 5th highest wage bil last term. We are also constantly one of the highest spenders in the league in recent times so really there is no room for excuses anymore.

LFC have been a club in transition for far to long now. It is becoming a joke.

    ReplyDelete
  42. 5TH Biggest and finished 2nd mmm value for money as i see it!

    ReplyDelete
  43. In 2 years, if we've still got the same players, then we'll see if Rodgers was right in saying in a couple of years these players will be World Class.
Personally I don't see the problem in telling someone that if they keep doing what they're doing and working hard then they're on the right track to becoming a world class player.
Ultimately every player is different. Elite players are driven by ambition to win trophies and constantly improve and show the world what they can do. Then you have Balotelli at the other end of the spectrum who apparently needs extra coaching just to be convinced to run around. He's motivated by being a celebrity first and players like that we can do without.
At the end of the day, the way you go on about this is as if every players psyche, attitude and career path hang in the balance of what the manager and pundits say in the media. The reality is it comes down to the players ability, attitude and character.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Rodgers gives Emre Can a confidence boost by predicting he will go on to be World Class in a couple of seasons.A manager believes in his player and sets a challenge to be elite.
Wanted posters with Brendan Rodgers' face on aren't needed.Hardly cr5me of the century.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Ya know, I'm starting to wonder why the heck Logan even asked the question anyway. He wanted to know what we think, and when we tell him he goes all crazy on how wrong we are. If we're wrong regardless of what we say, then why does he want to know our opinion?

    ReplyDelete
  46. Where's my cheque book?!
In a couple of years I could be world class. All I have to do is become world class. Becoming a full German international is only a small part of it there is lots that need to happen with Can before he can get there but why not say it. If anything it jeeps players grounded. There is a tendency in this sport to get big headed but being world class is tje pinnacle, so few can make it. It is a dream that is near impossible for most players, so dangle it as a goal, let them know they have a long way to go but give them that confidence that with work they can do it. It's called motivation.

    ReplyDelete
  47. That would be a good shout if it wasn't so clear that he was not being serious when he said it. I watched that documentary (for my sins) and that whole thing got latched on to by blues and reds who wanted Rodgers dead for not being Kenny.

    ReplyDelete
  48. 5th highest gee Loges you mean to say we beat the big spenders like Leicester Burnley Sunderland Villa and Newcastle.
My god look Loges sometimes you take the good with the bad but the seasons not over.
This is going to send you to tears but we have an almighty chance of top 4 meaning your arch nemesis is safer than safe.

    ReplyDelete
  49. His wandering eyebrow would drive me nuts for starters

    ReplyDelete
  50. world class is just another label for a player, like brilliant, outstanding etc. and we all know BR is best at overpraising players

it's not like 'world class" is a specific status you get when you achieve something special. these days everytime has it's own next maradona/pele and every second CL player is labeled as world class.

honestly i couldn't care less who BR calls world class, as he's just trying to boost the players confidence

    ReplyDelete
  51. We have a very good chance of finishing top 4 but there is also a chance that we might not.

How long should Rodgers be given to deliver silverware when he has not shown that he can? We cannot have a manager that likes to talk the talk (which Rodgers loves to do) but cannot walk the walk. He has spent a f*** load of money already so you can only go that far. We cannot have another season of catch up again I am afraid. If Rodgers has not learned his lesson this season and we end up in the same situation as we are now then it will be yet another season of transition that follows after that.

LFC have had enough of transition now. No more.

    ReplyDelete
  52. U got it right bro he is the only one

    ReplyDelete
  53. Ha ha, best comment of the evening. At least he does not air the dirty laundry. I have much respect for Ancelotti and the way he goes about his business. Does not get involved with politics either which is very rare in the game of today. Believe he would do a proper job with owners like FSG and he will be able to attract the best of the best.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Look Ancelotti is a good manager but Rodgers is doing a good job with attractive football and deserves to continue. Therefore the question is extremely hypothetical and IMO not worth debating for too long

    ReplyDelete
  55. Is it Rodgers fault Houllier Benitez Hodgson Dalglish in his second spell failed to deliver titles?
I am afraid we have to be patient and lets not B.S ourselves with unrealistic expectations.
Give Rodgers some credit they are a much better side to watch than under previous recent regimes they are young and to me in time the skies the limit.
Silverware is one thing but top 4 is more important than fa or league cups or Europa leaguei for 1 couldnt care less about those comps.

    ReplyDelete
  56. In October he did say he'd like to return to EPL if he got the chance- he denied Utd were after him so that would probably mean City- maybe straight swap with us: ) I read BR wants to see out his contract with us and then continue with us

    ReplyDelete
  57. You are not going to get the best without splashing the cash and we wont be doing that and no player is going to knock back an extra 20 k or more a week to play for Ancellotti.

    ReplyDelete
  58. We have splashed the cash ever since Rodgers arrived? I really do not see what you are trying to get at?

    ReplyDelete
  59. What young LFC players from 2 years ago (or even 3-4, or 5 years ago) are now world-class?

    ReplyDelete
  60. That has no relevance to Can, Coutinho et al who we are discussing at present

    ReplyDelete
  61. Whether BR gets to see out his contract is up to FSG. I doubt they are willing to go another season with excuses regarding transition.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Most managers can do a good job, even old Harry Redknapp but Rodgers is the only manager in recent times to go two seasons without silverware and by the looks of things we might not win anything again this season.

Good job yes but is that good enough for LFC?

    ReplyDelete
  63. Lets face it all the big name players have knocked us back that we have approached obviously not offering enough whether it be geographical or monetary.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Yes, it does have relevance. Historically, no young players ever go on to become world class at LFC, under Rodgers, Benitez, Houllier, or whoever.

You'll just ignore the historical aspect because it doesn't support your argument.

Has Rodgers ever, in his entire career, moulded/created a world-class young player? Never. So how is that going to change now?

Saying 'we'll see in two years' is a cop-out.

    ReplyDelete
  65. So are you telling me that we would not have been able to sign the cream of the crop if we had Mourinho or Ancelotti etc at the helm of LFC with almost £120m to spend? Seriously?

    ReplyDelete
  66. Probably yes its all about money and some players eg Sanchez dont want to live in Liverpool we do have a wage structure .
The manager can help get players but answer this would a top class player join Burnley or Leicester if Ancellotti or Mourinho was there.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Ancelotti and Mourinho have far more ambition than managing clubs that will never get anywhere and they have earned the right to manage the best teams.

That is just a simple fact.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Proof that you don't even read my comments -.-

    See 2 Comments up.

"Why do YOU think Ancelotti is such a great choice for LFC? BESIDES pedigree. It's a good way of determining "skill" level, but in no way does it show why he's a fit for a club."

    ReplyDelete
  69. Massive cop out answer the question.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Houllier? Michael Owen won the Ballon D'or for gods sake, is that still not enough to be considered world class?
Anyway previous managers and regimes the club have had have no relevance to the current comparison.
FSG and BR have a policy of signing up POTENTIALLY world class talent and developing it. When Rodgers took over a five year plan was discussed. 3 years in and we have a squad full of potential to become world class so seems to me that the plan is coming together. Over the next two years we'll see if the five year comes to fruition or not but saying these players won't develop because it didn't happen under previous regimes doesn't make sense to me

    ReplyDelete
  71. Massive cop out? I answered your question?

Why would Ancelotti or a player like Hazard EVER join Burnley who will forever struggle?

    Pointless ain't it?

    ReplyDelete
  72. A more interesting question would have been, "Who's the 2nd most laziest player."

    ReplyDelete
  73. Ok you take the one word too literally. Rodgers is doing a great job, the team is performing very well with exciting attractive football. The team is very young and should hopefully flourish even further with Rodgers. Chopping and changing managers often has a negative effect on this. You say he has won nothing, this may be true but let's give some credit to being a whisker away from the title last year. Most fans can see the progression of the team

    ReplyDelete
  74. No it isnt it just proves what i said players dont move just because of managers or absolutely prove me wrong i want many many examples probably at least a hundred.

    ReplyDelete
  75. It proves nothing.

First of all, Burnley cannot even afford a player like Lallana at £25m so that already puts the conversation to bed.

No top manager will decide to go to Burnley and neither will any top players. Simple fact.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Whenever one comes off as such a buffoon in a documentary to the point where a google search of "Brendan Rodgers or David Brent" yields a quiz where you have to guess which quote is attributed to which person AND it is legitimately difficult to determine who said what AND you are in such disbelief that Rodgers actually said any of it... well it doesn't matter if we are blue, red, purple, or pink... it's just not good for red.

    ReplyDelete
  77. If Ancelotti can win the EPL with Chelsea then who is not to say he can win the EPL with LFC? He has even won the title in France.

He knows how to get things done and is a winner. End of the story.

    ReplyDelete
  78. You cant prove me wrong 100 players who got offered more money at successful clubs but chose a better manager instead.
Please you have your chance to make a fool of me so far you have only made a lot of poooooorr statements.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Boohoo for poor Mario. He needs to man up and put in a proper shift, just like everyone else in the team. And for you to blame the coaching staff for this is pathetic. You really haven't a clue, have you?!

    ReplyDelete
  80. So, no reason except he did it 5 years ago? Okay, just making sure.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Ancelotti won the European Cup in 1988–89, 1989–90.

We are not talking about a Mickey Mouse manager. He is one of the the best whether you like it or not.

    ReplyDelete
  82. No it doesnt Loges you name me 50 players who knocked back successful clubs and bigger contracts to play under a certain manager.
According to you there should be hundreds thousands who knows.
If you want to assume the attitude about whats likely or not then Ancellotti isnt here so its all moot.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Winning the league and CL should be our aim. If anyone has different aims then we will lead a life of mediocrity as LFC supporters. Can Rodgers win us the league based on this season? After spending how much he has since joining the club winning bugger all along the way?

That is the ambition of our support. MEDIOCRITY.

    ReplyDelete
  84. You are delusional if you belive a player like Hazard will join Burnley if they offer him £300k a week.

    ReplyDelete
  85. And that's a delusional comparison because it couldn't possibly happen

    ReplyDelete
  86. I know all about pedigree chum

    ReplyDelete
  87. Any volunteers to transition his arse?

    ReplyDelete
  88. I think Can will end his career soon with that much pressure and expectations. Poor Can..

    ReplyDelete
  89. And Samuel Eto'o signing for Anzhi disproves your point

    ReplyDelete
  90. I cant believe you wrote that. Even worse you probably believe that..

    ReplyDelete
  91. Why are we talking about this.... probably taken well out of context and twisted to frul the we ahte Balotelli roadshow....Boring.

    ReplyDelete
  92. I tire of Lawro and Aldo, Nicol aswell... never hear from em when theirs compliments to be paid.... misserly old gits is all they are...

    ReplyDelete
  93. Yes, but you keep dancing around my point without disproving it in ANY WAY. I say he's not fit for LFC, you say he's won titles. I say that doesn't make him a good fit, you say I don't think he's good enough. I say that's not what I said, and you say he's won titles. You fail to address me, so I just give up...

    ReplyDelete
  94. No I feel the same as Ben.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Opta. I've similar stats quoted often this season.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Are you suggesting that sometimes a manager actually needs to manage?

    Heresy, Jaimie.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Any comments on the Manchester United divers seeing you were so quick to attack Liverpool players?

    ReplyDelete
  98. Dont be silly. Balotelli is congenitally lazy
No manager is going to change that
Mourinho and mancini and others realised that

    ReplyDelete
  99. Ridiculous Jaimie. Deleted another post for having the audacity to challenge your view. Your turning this site in to a joke and think people would pay for it???????

    ReplyDelete
  100. His problem is that when he is given a chance he does absolutely nothing with it. A very poor player, i'm afraid. Lawro was absolutely right to slate him and so is anyone else ...but Allen is scarcely the one to cast stones. He isn't exactly Pirlo, is he?

    ReplyDelete
  101. You're right, of course. Sturridge was poor but much better than Balo.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Bad news for you...Origi is no good. But yes, please get rid of Balo and Lame Bert.

    ReplyDelete
  103. You've just brought up the historical aspect because it supports your argument.

    ReplyDelete
  104. We are currently fifth. It's almost as if the cost and how much you pay players has an affect on how well you do.

    ReplyDelete
  105. And having such a small (comparatively) wage bill and spending less money, how long do you expect these goals to be met? Get a grip of yourself.

I notice now that the impossible fourth is nearly done the goal posts are moved to such a level that even the most experienced managers with the most expensive teams would struggle.

Are you intentionally making a parody of yourself?

  106. Yes he talks guff. I would be surprised if he believed it all himself. So what? People get too bogged down with the meaningless. When we were poor earlier o in the season there was a legitimate gripe. I had my own say on things. What Rodgers says in the press I couldn't give a t0ss about.

  107. Did Rodgers say these players in the past would go on to become world class? Was the structure, coaching, ownership of the club the same then? History is a good guide at times. Sometimes it's meaningless. Not sure which this is yet.

  108. I doubt it was sniping.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Absolutely right.

    ReplyDelete
  110. This wasn't the press... it was a specific documentary about the club that made him (and the club) look foolish

    ReplyDelete
  111. Yes it was. There are comments that were deleted that you didn't see, so please don't presume to know what's going on behind the scenes.

    ReplyDelete
  112. To who? And once again. why care?

    ReplyDelete
  113. Well I have seen what has been deleted and what I have been banned for. Perhaps this time there was something but it doesn't take much.

  114. What players went to City once they started spending? If they pay it they will come. Field of dreams was saying it years ago.

    ReplyDelete
  115. Balotelli has been treated disgracefully by his team mates and manager slagging him off in public. Criticism in private is fine but the public remarks from Allen, Gerrard and Rogers is pathetically unprofessional and counterproductive

    ReplyDelete
  116. Absolutely agree. Whether it's Balotelli, or any other LFC player, public criticism is out of order.

    ReplyDelete
  117. Haha, stats? Please, do yourself a favour and don't fall into the JK of habit of reading stats as divine gospel.

    ReplyDelete
  118. You're unbelievable...I don't know where to begin. Your viewpoint totally lacks of any rational logic. The coaching and administrative structures were ENTIRELY different back when Rafa and Houllier were at the helm, so how the hell could their respective eras in any way set a precedent for new, transformed coaching and administrative structures in the future? Your argument relies on the logic of nonsense such as magic and curses...

    ReplyDelete
  119. We're going to need to get Ancelotti's wood out of there first

    ReplyDelete
  120. Can you please tell my why my comment was deleted? What specific rules did I break? I would appreciate the feedback so it doesn't happen again. :) Please and thank you!

  121. I said what if i gave you a scenario to prove a point and asked for an answer i never got so its you who i am afraid is delusional.
Yeah sure Hazards not joining Burnley and Messi isnt joining Liverpool either.
Also you are way off track if you think a new manager is going to make all the bad go away wake up and smell the roses!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  122. But yeah, as I was saying, you can't set the different coaching structures and administrations as precedent for newly transformed ones in the future. That's just illogical.

    ReplyDelete
  123. Mario has been quite a good boy since he signed for us. He's trying desperately hard to keep out of trouble and is succeeding for the most part. He has worked harder at Liverpool than he ever has in his career combined.

    ReplyDelete
  124. Origi is having a bad season and maybe he will not make it ,but he is coming in like it or not and lets HOPE that BR can do some magic with him.

    ReplyDelete
  125. Jamie - You don't blame him for being lazy... he is in a very privileged position, one most would give anything for and he can't be bothered to fulfill his potential, its entirely his fault he is lazy. He's a grown man who has to take responsibility for himself.
At the beginning most stated 16 million on Balotelli was worth the risk, it unfortunately has turned into a failure, so sell him and move on.

    ReplyDelete
  126. The hyperbole is over the top. I think people take what Rodgers say far too seriously. The man doesn't get through a sentence without using the word "outstanding". He's generous with terms like this so no, Emre Can is not well on his way to being a genuinely world class player.

Rodgers is giving these players a goal. From a club perspective it's not unreasonable - LFC has an aspiration to be back amongst the elite of Europe. In order to do that they will need a selection of world class players. The players listed do indeed have that potential so I'm not really sure it's such a problem to tell them that. If they don't continue to improve and develop the club will have to look elsewhere. So for me it's just motivation and Rodgers obviously has a particular way of doing things. If it all comes crashing down then I'm sure it will be one of the things we can dissect. For now it seems like an awful lot of fuss over nothing.

  127. That would be pedigree pal wouldnt it.

    ReplyDelete
  128. But he is better than Henderson, thats a sad reality for some people. Its Hendo who was overhyped for his two recent goals, so much that even his agenmt is starting to act like Raheem's in demanding too much for the boy

    ReplyDelete
  129. You're a Balotelli enabler JK :-) By blaming others for his abject behaviour you confirm his "why always me" complex. If he is the laziest player at the club then he should do something about it. When I set a house on fire it's my fault the house is on fire, not the fault of the guy who rang the fire department.

    ReplyDelete
  130. But he still deserves no credit and lots of flak, okay? Don't let facts interfere with your opinion.

    ReplyDelete
  131. In complete fairness, Joe's old team had been nicknamed 'Swanselona' and he was the midfield kingpin for them, playing a similar role to what Xavi's is/was.
