With the January transfer window in full-swing, Liverpool are reportedly considering a move to sign Valencia striker Paco Alcacer.
According to The Telegraph this week:
* Liverpool are interested in signing Alcacer.
* The 21-year old 'could join' Liverpool in January if the Reds meet his €18m release clause.
Some info about Alcacer:
* Current contract expires: 2016
* 3 goals in 5 apps for Spain.
* 29 goals/assists in 58 apps for Valencia.
* This season: 12 goals/assists in 17 apps.
* Recently hailed as an 'incredible' striker by team-mate Rodrigo.
After scoring on his international debut during Spain's recent 5-1 Euro qualifying demolition of Macedonia, Alcacer received individual praise from Spain boss Vicente Del Bosque, who raved:
"Alcacer has fulfilled the expectations we had in him. He scored a goal, his movement was good, and we have made a step forward. We will be watching to see how he develops at his club."
Former Valencia boss Juan Antonio Pizzi is convinced that Alcacer is one of the best players in the world (!), and in a recent hyperbolic interview, he gushed:
"Compare him [Alcacer] with any other footballer in the world with his talent, and only Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are ahead of him. It's priceless to have a player so good at finishing in this kind of form."
Wowsers. When it comes to grossly exaggerated praise, even LFC's master-of-fawn, Brendan Rodgers, is no match for Pizzi. LFC's boss regularly insists that Raheem Sterling is 'world-class', but he's stopped short of claiming that the Reds attacker is the third-best player in the world (Give him time, though)
Liverpool need a new striker, but is Alcacer the answer? No chance. In December, Rodgers insisted that the Reds 'have to get some ready-made' players in the next couple of transfer windows, and Alcacer doesn't fit that description.
If the club is going to spend €18m on a player, it needs to go on an experienced, proven-quality player who can come straight into the first team and make an immediate impact.

Alcacer is a great young player with good potential, but that's all. We already bought Origi and have Borini on our hands at the moment. Sturridge is hardly old as well. I'd rather have a more established player, even if it does come at an older age.
ReplyDeleteAlcácer looks interesting, but not at that price. He'd certainly suit our play better than Balotelli, Lambert or Sterling up front though.
ReplyDeleteAlso JK: Pizzi isn't Valencia boss anymore, it's Nuno Santo.
I still say B R will not be allowed to buy anyone at all EXCEPT from SALES - B R has performed exactly like King Kenny before he got sacked - I FEAR THE WORST
ReplyDeleteSign him up before we regret it.
ReplyDeleteIt says previous valencia manager.
ReplyDeleteGood spot. I forgot to put 'former' manager.
ReplyDeleteJamie you have had us buying anyone on two legs unfortunately we usually buy them with only one good one.
ReplyDeleteNo thanks, keep looking
ReplyDeleteJaimie you know you've been away from Scotland too long when you're saying things like "wowsers" :-)
ReplyDeleteOur transfer policies re bureaucratic.City re going to sign bony soon while dave fallows,barry hunter,ian ayre,brendan rodgers and the powers that be gets to serve us shitty players like aspas,luis alberto,ilori et al thereby confirming our status as premier league also rans
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen this guy play, but is €18m (£14m) a big fee in today's market? A goal / assist every other game sounds more than decent for a 21 year old. Convincing him to leave Valencia will also be difficult.
ReplyDeleteApparently
ReplyDeleteWe can even afford 10m without falling foul on ffp
No signings this window , you should stop speculating!
im fed up of all these rumours about new arrivals coming in this January,,,, theirs a not chance of anyone whatsoever, unless there is a major clear out of all the dead wood we have, plus the fact that br might not be here come next season so why give him anymore money to wast, sorry for being negative buts that's what I think
ReplyDeleteCriminy! I've been framed.
ReplyDeleteIs that because Scots never show enthusiasm?
ReplyDeleteFor a proven striker I honestly think Higuain or Lacazette fits the bill. GH may cost more but is still within reach and AL probably wont leave till summer but still
ReplyDeleteI think if we sell Borini we should be in a decent position to buy a striker.
ReplyDeleteAlso worth remembering that we're losing a couple of big-earners in the summer (Gerrard and Johnson) which will help us with FFP going forward.
No, let's just say it's expressed slightly differently
ReplyDeleteHenderson shouldn't even be in the team let alone being captain-elect. Give it to Emre Can, as he will be a mainstay in the team for years to come, and seems very mature beyond his years - he will grow into the role. I notice in the training pictures that he is been kept/keeping close to Gerrard and Henderson. A hint?
ReplyDeleteNah, I'm just joking. The Scots will never match the English for self-inflicted misery. Though you could argue that you had a good bash at it by choosing to stay tethered to Westminster!
ReplyDelete'Hey, forget Shaqiri. Our talent spotting computer has quite a better idea...'
ReplyDeleteYou wonder, since there are so many players who are like Messi and Ronaldo, what people think is so special about, well, Messi and Ronaldo...
ReplyDeleteHaha at the old neverendum. We would've just been replacing one set of goons with another set of goons, kind of like our defence.
ReplyDeleteWestminster's full of scots anyway
He'll be the answer if we give him jersey 42.
ReplyDeleteCollaborators! Scotland's very own Petáin(s).
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry but I wouldn't include ILLORI in your list, he hasn't even been given a go yet and you brand him as shit, a bit harsh
