With the Victor Valdes deal dead in the water, Liverpool continue to be linked with a move for Fiorentina goalkeeper Norberto Murara Neto, aka 'Neto'.
According to the Daily Mail this weekend:
"Liverpool are interested in bringing in Fiorentina stopper Neto, who is top of Brendan Rodgers' [transfer] list"
This follows a report in The Mirror last month, which claimed that:
* Rodgers is 'frantically' searching for a replacement for Mignolet.
* Liverpool are planning to make a move for 'Neto'.
* The Brazilian is allegedly willing to accept £20,000-per-week and could be available at a bargain price.
When asked recently about his future, €6m-rated Neto seemed to rule out a move away from Serie A. He told reporters:
"I am not thinking about the renewal. I’m just concentrating on my work and being in good form. The club would like me to renew straight away but we haven’t reached an agreement yet. Fiorentina remains my first choice.”
Neto's Stats:
* 2014-15: Played 11
* Goals conceded: 10 (1 every 1.1 games)
* Clean Sheets: 5
* 2013-14: Played 49
* Goals conceded: 51 (1 every 1.04 games)
* Clean Sheets: 16 (1 every 3 games)
* TOTALS: (Fiorentina) - Played 70
* Goals conceded: 72
* Clean Sheets: 25 (1 every 2.8 games)
Neto's clean sheet record is quite impressive, but over his career, his goals-conceded per-game ratio is not the greatest. However, last season, he conceded fewer goals (51 in 49 games) than Mignolet (53 in 40 games), so at a basic level, the Brazilian is clearly an upgrade.
Former Fiorentina goalkeeper Sébastien Frey certainly believes that Neto is a top-class 'keeper. In an interview earlier this year, he raved:
“I trained for a few months with Neto and he his is naturally explosive, and I think the Italian school helped him grow even more. He can become one of the best goalkeepers in Serie A.”
Is Neto the answer, or should Liverpool try and sign a proven, world-class goalkeeper (like Iker Casillas, for example, who is currently being linked with a move to Anfield)?

Neto also plays in the Serie A. Put him in the EPL and it is a whole different ball game.
ReplyDeletei would rather prefer bejovic
ReplyDeleteHow about tempting Petr Cech currently playing second fiddle at Chelsea. Is he over the top considering age and salary etc. Plus point would be a proven keeper in the EPL.
ReplyDeleteI know very little about Neto, except I believe it's scandanavian for value.
ReplyDeleteIf Mignolet had an adept defence ahead of him then maybe we would not be conceding as many goals.
ReplyDeleteSo Balotelli out with a hamstring injury and most probably will not be out for at least 3 weeks.
ReplyDeleteIf Sakho is finally fit then the team I would go with is
---------------Mignolet--------------
Manquillo Toure Sakho Moreno
-----Coutinho Can Henderson---
---------------Sterling----------------
--------Borini---------Sturridge-----
Team I expect Rodgers to go with
---------------Mignolet-------------
Johnson Skrtel Lovren Moreno
--------Gerrard----Hendo----------
Sterling-----Coutinho------Lallana
--------------Sturridge---------------
He has his own problems mate. A defence not knowing when or if the keeper will come for a ball could effect their game too.
ReplyDeleteBut we have a case of 4 vs 1.
ReplyDeleteYour opinion about Mignolet playing behind Chelsea's defence and Courtois behind ours?
I think that our defence would loom a bit better but not nearly enough. What I am saying is he is one of the problems but not the entire problem. Mignolet's indecisiveness and poor distribution would still be a problem behind Chelsea's defence but he may well do better under the guidance of an actual leader.
ReplyDeleteWhat is that bad about Mignolet's distribution though? His accuracy is higher than any of the GK's I have compared him with.
ReplyDeleteHis distribution stats are higher because he passes the ball out to feet most of the time. Apart from Southamptons keeper, the others mix distribution up a lot more. His decision making is poor and he doesn't dominate his area, leading to uncertainty and a defence that isn't sure of what he will do. I agree that the defence are a shambles but that shouldn't disguise the fact that we have a keeper who is not yet at the level required. De Gea had the excuse of coming to a new league and it took him a while to see his quality but Mingolet has been here for years and looks no more than average.
ReplyDeleteWhich GK is going to be above average behind our defence?
ReplyDeleteHold on when Rogers bought Mingolet he clearly stated that he was NOT a replacement for Reina.
ReplyDeleteRogers also stated that Minoglet was the N01 Keeper for Belgium.
These are Rogers purchases, he can't any longer say that these aren't my players.
He sanctioned the purchase of Mingolet so obviously he made a mistake.
Lets no move onto what else he's done in recently.
He has not adequately replaced Danile Agger, he loans out Jordan Ibe who was doing really well, then goes and spends £20 million on Markovic.
Where is the supposed reformed Academy and scouting network that we were told would be in place?
FSG should NOT give him any Money until he can make the players HE bought work.
If they don't work out then it's Brendan's Squad he MUST take responsibility for it.
When one or two players don't work out when you but them that's understandable.
However what we are seeing is NONE of them with maybe the Emre ,Moreno and Manquillo doing ok.
Lallana isn't do well, Lovren isn't doing well, Ballotelli isn't doing well, Markovic isn't doing well.
I'm losing confidence in Rogers not only because of the purchases, it's the in game substitutions, the insistence of playing players who wont run or work.
The fact that Brendan isn't saying it's my fault and any player not willing to work will not play.
Gutless in dropping Gerrard when it's clear he can't and shouldn't play 3 games in 7 days, or when he's not playing well.
Dont get me wrong I'm not calling for Rogers to be sacked, however he should not be given any money for players unless theirs a injury.
Rogers should also be given until the end of the season at which point he can't have excuses.
Spot on .like ur lineout. Rodgers is fairly predictable with team selection. Toure should have played against Chelsea, probably would have at least got a draw then.
ReplyDeleteI fully expect Rodgers to start with Allen instead of Coutinho because it is an away game. I would rest Sterling and play Lucas instead in a diamond with Coutinho in the hole because Sterling has to take rest otherwise we could lose the player that had a path to glory. But, there is not point in debating because Rodgers will never change.
ReplyDeleteI cannot see Rodgers going with anything else but the second line up.
ReplyDeleteSterling was at his most dangerous when playing centrally last season. He is wasted out on the wing.
He would be my choice mate
ReplyDeletePassing stats lie mate. Him knocking it to Lovren. Lovren to Skrtel, Skrtel to Mignolet ad infinitum isn't really a way to judge. His distribution through kicking any than his CBs is terrible. Your eyes tell you this even if the stats don't. Any goalie behind thay defence may struggle but a more commanding and decisive keeper would be a tremendous help. He is neither of those things.
ReplyDeleteNot sure what to make of those stats as opta stats are different.
ReplyDeleteHe is slow. He gathers the ball and quickly runs to the edge of his penalty area as if he is going to get the ball moving then he hops around a bit while everyone gets back in position then he either passes it to the nearest defender or kicks the ball out of play.
ReplyDeleteSchurrle not
ReplyDeleteIs it a bird... Is it a plane... No, it's SuperLogan.I knew someone would fly to his rescue:) How can i judge Markovic being trash? I have eyes and watch matches!
ReplyDelete"None of the players know what to do with the ball" This is football not rocket science.Lazar Markovic has a greyhound style of dribbling.A wingers job is to take players on by running with the ball, not view it as a rabbit and chase after it.
I watched matches from Benfica last season for betting purposes.Porto was my early accumulator pick from the Primeira Liga.I went cold on them when they started to show inconsistent mid season form.Then switched to Benfica.
When we signed Markovic i was more familiar with what he brings to the table than most.I wasn't happy, expressed my view and had matches of comment tennis with angry fans who think every player Liverpool sign is the dogs bollock5.
I'm not a YouTube scout who grades players from clips.If I haven't seen enough matches from whoever, I keep my trap shut.
Septimus Red we can't put Brendan Rodgers on the naughty step by giving him no money.The only losers from that situation would be Liverpool.It's straightforward FSG should back him or sack him.
ReplyDeleteHe passes it to the nearest defender because that is how Rodgers wants the team to play football.
ReplyDeletePlay out from the back.
As I said in my reply to Stuart. Rodgers wants the team to play out from the back. Unfortunately for our goalkeeper he has to deal with inept defenders ahead of him.
ReplyDeleteNaturally explosive- don't fancy being downwind from him
ReplyDeleteMake of it what you will.
ReplyDeleteItalian website Tuttomercato claim Henry has made no decision on the future of Rodgers, but has hinted that his reign at Anfield is 'hanging in the balance'
Yes but he will have to go a bit longer sometimes too. They point we made was that the stats suggest better distribution than he actually has due to passing g out from the back. It doesn't change how bad he is at anything further than a few metres. He could have any defence in the world in front of him his ki king is still ponderous and poor.
ReplyDeleteMignolet is following instruction from his manager?
ReplyDeleteJust like Rodgers asked the team to press high last season and now this season slow build up play and even Balotelli being asked to lead the attack.
If he is asking Skrtel and Lovren to look inept most of the time then we have massive problems ;-)
I hope sturridge is fit at least until January
ReplyDelete...............................................sturridge ...............
lallana........................................coutinho.......................sterling
.............................henderson/can...............gerrard
what a team
I don't think you are getting my point mate. I know he is following instructions knocking it out from the back. The only point of relevance that had is it makes his passing stats look good. But his distribution to anyone other than the CB is diabolical. Lovren and Skrtel create problems but that is one Mignolet is doing alone. That and others.
ReplyDeleteI have not argued that his distribution is great. All I am arguing is that it will not matter which keeper we have right now as another GK will also ask to play the same way as Mignolet and will also be left in no man land by our defence.
ReplyDeleteSo
ReplyDeletewe dont play long ball football
so migs can pass to skrtel and lovren only
Looks like your not getting it either.
ReplyDeleteYes but when we are closed down that keeper might find a man when we go long. Something he is terrible at. Like you have stated with the stats passing to the CB is not his problem.
ReplyDeleteA Begovic(27) Of Stoke, Great Shot Stopper, Commander of box, defenders have faith in him and he can kick the ball well long. S Mignolet(26) is just a great shot stopper, everything else he is useless at.
ReplyDeleteB Rodgers should spend £7-£11M on A Begovic(27) Of Stoke
The problem with our defence is they have NO Protection Behind them or In Front of them:
B Rodgers should spend £10-£13M bringing in Y M'Villa(24) Of Rubin Kazan( On loan at Inter Milan)
And i am sure A Begovic(27) behind our defence and Y M'Villa(24) in front of our defence, we would see our side concede very little at Home or Away.
As Mignolet(26) and S Gerrard(34) are offering the defence no protection whatsover.
And lastly B Rodgers needs to play Lovren(25) and Sakho(24) together as a centre back partnership for 12- 18 games and they will form a formidable partnership.
A team with Begovic(27), Lovren(25), Sakho(24), Y M'Villa(24) in starting line up will be very hard to break down and get past.
Mignolet's distribution did not matter last season did it? You can swing it whichever way you want to. No matter which GK you want to bring in, that GK will struggle behind this defence.
ReplyDeleteYes it did matter. Just because we outscored most teams doesn't mean it wasn't an issue. It was something brought up a lot. The GP struggling isn't the point it's about him being part of the problem which until this whole thing I thought was beyond debate.
ReplyDeletei think our defence is a much bigger issue at this point. Mignolet's distribution is something that can be fixed and a more adept back four might see him be more confident in the box.
ReplyDeleteand if you think a striker who ( and to quote carra ) puts in a shift will solve Liverpool problems you had better get down to dreamworld
ReplyDeleteps...i was referring to dirk but why im at it i didn't think carra was anything special but i respect your opinion
ReplyDeleteim sorry logan but but mingo can not kick a ball
ReplyDeletecommon sense goes out the window with the fees liverpool pay ...just think of 20m pounds i mean 20m pounds for marko the world is insane
ReplyDeleteLacazette...now that's a player I want to see
ReplyDeleteNot sure how his goals conceded compared to Mignolet can be considered an upgrade, surely goals conceded has something to do with the defence in front of him, regularity of playing time and standard of league? I'm not saying Neto's a bad keeper, far from it, but it's debatable that he'd fare better than Simon isn't it?
ReplyDeleteThere is a case to be stated that a keeper is also part of the defence, meaning perhaps our defensive failings have to do in part with the goalkeeper's role, be it in terms of organisation, communicating with his back four, dominating his penalty box and allowing his centrebacks to know when he'll come and collect and when they should take charge. I believe it is a common complaint with Mignolet that he lacks those proactive qualities. He's a top shotstopper, undoubtedly, but that is only one aspect of the keeper's role.
ReplyDeleteGood analysis and good example right there
ReplyDeleteDont think that FSG are giving any more pounds to abuse
ReplyDeleteHaha. Good one.
