Sign Me, Brendan: €15m star who 'followed LFC as a child' desperate for Reds transfer

Marseille attacker Andre Ayew has been linked with a move to Liverpool many times in the past, and new reports this week suggest that Ayew is desperate for a move to Anfield.

According to French newspaper L'Equipe this week:

* Ayew wants a transfer abroad this summer.

* The 24 year old 'dreams' of a move to Liverpool.

This follows a recent report in French sports Daily Le10Sport, which claimed that:

* Liverpool were planning an official bid for Ayew.

* Marseille are €8m in the hole right now, and may consequently be forced to sell.

€15m-rated Ayew has a soft-spot for Liverpool, and when interviewed last season on French TV show Telefoot, he enthused:

"It [The Premier league] is a league I always think of. I am Ghanaian and an English speaker, and I have a strong preference for England. As for Liverpool - I followed them as a child"

When asked about his future recently, Ayew told reporters:

"Everything is possible. I'm under contract and proud to wear this jersey. I could have left it two years ago, but I stayed, had finished second. We'll see"

Ayew's versatility probably makes him an appealing option for Brendan Rodgers. He can play as a winger, or a striker, but is he prolific enough, though? Stats for the last few years:

* 2010-11: 13 goals/3 assists in 51 appearances.
* 2011-12: 16 goals/4 assists in 39 apps.
* 2012-13: 13 goals/5 assists in 45 apps.
* 2013-14: 8 goals/3 assists in 29 apps.
* Goal/Assist every 2.5 games.

Given the injuries to Lallana and Markovic, the Reds could do with another quality attacking midfielder, and Ayew is much more experienced that the likes of Suso, Ibe, and Markovic, so for the right price, it could be a shrewd transfer.

That said, Ayew is no substitute for a dedicated, top-class striker, which remains a huge priority for Liverpool.

  1. No, not for me. As I said in a previous post when Gaitan was linked, give Jordan Ibe the game time instead.

  2. Babel Mk 2.
No thanks. We need a proper goalscorer.

    ReplyDelete
  3. His age changed 3 times in the course of that article, well written piece.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Pointless waste of an article. There are lots of second rate players there would like to play for Liverpool I am sure. If Brendan Rodgers signs this man the I am an Everton supporter. This is so clearly a fabricated report by some hack who had some copy to fill. Why are we even discussing this????

    ReplyDelete
  5. Why did you delete my last post here and modify my previous one on the Original article Jaimie? Are we no allowed to criticise the merits of the article?? It's my ball and I won't let you play!! Ha ha

  6. Personally, I think Rodgers needs to look at someone like Paulo Dybala, according to many south American media, he is looking like the next Aguero, still very young, but reasonably priced.

    ReplyDelete
  7. So how old is he - 27, 24 or 23? He's not an out and out striker, which is what we are looking for, so this is clearly another non-story!

    ReplyDelete
  8. We need two strikers not yet another attacking mid except if its Vidal and we nuke Lucas and Allen.................

    ReplyDelete
  9. I think another forward depends on Borini moving to Sunderland. If Borini does not go then we keep him. If he does go then there surely will be a replacement lined up for him.

"We knew that after the injury it would take a little bit longer," Poyet added. "The longer it goes, of course you start looking for other options, because you have to - that's my job.

"But every time you take a step forward in something, you stop because we want Fabio."

It is a waiting game right now...

    ReplyDelete
  10. Agreed, it's all tied up with the Borini deal

I am being patient we need 4 more signings
a good gk to compete with mignolet
    alberto moreno
    a good dm
    a striker

i can't believe we let spurs have vorm i believe if we went for him we would have got him ,maybe we can get petr chech or deigo lopez

morgan schniderlin is the best option at dm spurs are haggling over the fee , maybe we should teach them a lesson one and for all

finally the striker ideally would be marco reus but if it is not i hope it is someone special that can get fans excited , if edinson cavani, falcao or higuain can join, but like i said reus versatility makes me want him

    borini is not good enough
he can only run and take penalties

if we need another attacking mid it should be one of di maria, isco, draxler ,firmino, gaitan
ayew is not a significant improvement on what we have

  14. My Grandfather is 84 and he has followed Liverpool FC for more years than he can remember, he played for his local football club as a striker and once scored 2 goals in one year, he is quite happy to sit on the bench (until needed) and his Agent (me) will let him go for £3 million and a new pair of boots....seeing that BR and our highly suspect Transfer Committee are having such difficulty signing the right players for certain positions I think they should consider this option....a snip at £3 million.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I've seen your grandfather play: he reminded me of Lionel Messi: sign him up i say!

    ReplyDelete
  16. I think we just need a quality striker. I think we should go after Wilfred Bony, as a t a better club, I think he would shine even more. i think he got 20 odd goals last season for Swansea, goal every other game. at 25 he is coming into his prime.

    ReplyDelete
  17. carry on dreaming about Falcao, Cavani, Reus, Sanchez & .... untill transer window closes.
it seems Spures transfer targets and policy hits you where it hirts most.
    lol
do you realy think BR can pull those players? you deluded lot!!!!!
by theway why dont you ask rogres about 11m he paid for Borini, for doing nothing.
and there,s no way Sunderland pay 14m for 5-6 m rated striker.
you are so out of touch and out of date.

    ReplyDelete
  18. It is highly doubtful that another central midfielder will be signed. Gerrard, Lucas and Can will see us have three players to fill the pivot role. If Lucas is moved on then there might be a possibility of us adding another CM. In all honesty, I would pass on Schneiderlin and rather introduce Jordan Rossiter to the first team.

Signing another goalkeeper is not critical. Mignolet still has much to prove but this season it is make or break for him.

Borini is on the treatment table for his shoulder. Like Poyet said, "We knew that after the injury it would take a little bit longer" and there are still three weeks to go so you can bet our physios are working on his injury.

It is imperative that we sign a new LB and depending on what happens with Borini then another forward, no more than that.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I am afraid the boots are out of the question otherwise yes.

    ReplyDelete
  20. borini is like an albatross a round rogers neck...im amazed sunderland are still after him especially as they( imo )are over paying for him, they want him we dont whats the problem.

    ReplyDelete
  21. His injury slowed things down as well I think. Story of his life with us

    ReplyDelete
  22. when we are looking at players like this id sooner give ibe a shout.if we can get him for around 6/7m maybe but 15m no way.

    ReplyDelete
  23. ere does that leave Lambert then who can't seem to do do either! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  24. He is way better than Babel but alas still not good enough for Liverpool.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Nevergonnacrackthecode11:30 am, August 09, 2014

can is not a proper dm
    he is more attacking
at leverkusen bedner was the main pivot not can , that si why have not seen him in that position

rossiter is just another jay spearing , mignolet needs competition the friendly vs man u showed us the difference between a top gk vs average gk , de gea bailed them out mignolet never saves chances he should not be making

    that is a risk

i know everyone is confident we will get someone up front
but lets remember last season rodgers tried to get mkhitaryan, costa then willian and we ended up with moses

    ReplyDelete
  29. Nevergonnacrackthecode11:43 am, August 09, 2014

    but still hoping reus joins
    my dream team:
    ....................................................sturridge.........................................
    coutinho..........................................reus....................................sterling
    ....................................henderson.................gerrard..........................
    moreno.......................................................................................flanagan
    ...................................sakho.........................lovren................................
    ..................................................mignolet

who would be happy with that?

    ReplyDelete
  30. Can more attacking. Where did he play for Bayer Leverkusen?

Rossiter at 17 is already far better than Spearing will ever be.

Would De Gea have done any better playing behind our back four?

    ReplyDelete
  31. No thanks on this one. Watched Ayew quite a few times and never been overly impressed. Bear in mind those stats are playing for one of the dominant teams in a fairly weak league so nothing special there. He would be a decent squad player for 6/7 million but nothing more.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Nevergonnacrackthecode11:55 am, August 09, 2014

man utd had blackett, smalling and ashley young in defense
no way ours is worse then that

    ReplyDelete
  33. From what I know Can played in quite a few different positions for Leverkusen last year. I think he played around 10 games each as a CM and LB, around 5/6 as a DM, 1/2 at CB and a single appearance as a wide forward. He's pretty versatile.

Gotta say Logan I have a similar feeling about Rossiter, I know everyone has been talking this lad up for quite sometime but I just get the impression he will never quite make it. Hope I'm wrong though.

De Gea > Mignolet no doubt there.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Can did play many different positions for Leverkusen but to suggest he is not a proper DM and more attacking is a bit contradictory when he is a defensive minded player.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Maybe not but we have the likes of Johnson on the pitch at walking pace.

We have a very inconsistent defence which would be a problem for any goalkeeper.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Yeh agreed his game definitely seems suited to the more defensive minded positions. Having said that I do believe he can turn into a very, very strong ball carrier be that from deep or higher up the pitch.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Box to box midfielder.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Gerrard is not good in the DCM role, he should be used in his position as a menacing attacking midfield player who exploits space and shoots on site....we havent seen this since Napoli game in the UEFA cup 2 years ago.

In the DCM role it looks nice what he does but other teams are targeting him and he keeps making mistakes because of it. To put him in a dream team with this current Brendan Rogers incarnation of him or even in the PFA shortlist for player of the year is ridiculous.

If he cannot do this for the whole game then use him like Giggs was used by united ie as a bit part player.

    ReplyDelete
  39. We are linked to this nobody, whilst the mancs are on the cusp of signing Vidal, Benatia and Di Maria ..

    ReplyDelete
  40. That's a pity but Grandad says he will settle for a liquidized banana once a week. He also said I must mention to Brrr (as he calls Rodgers when he can't get his false teeth away from the dog) "tell Brrrr I also like tiki taki, we used bubble gum when we wuz kids and that kept the ball at your feet, now I use it to stick my posters to the wall"
Great doing business with you Greg, thank heavens I didn't have to deal with Ayre, it would have taken six months of negotiations and then he would end up signing our neighbour who recently passed away (his heart could not take another season of dodgy signings....poor guy.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Thast because if you look what we have won in the last 10 years and compare it to what Utd have won in the last years, on top that the kind of wages Utd can and do pay and what we pay it is pretty clear why Utd can still attract the best in the world.

  47. This guy, this forum, the Manc links have been in the press for weeks.

    ReplyDelete
  48. The Reus links have been in the press for weeks now as well and does that mean that we are close to signing him. No reliable source has reported anything. Only sites like the Mail, Mirror, Star, Metro et al have reported this and I do not believe it. If they were so close to signing Benatia, why would they want Vermaelen.

    ReplyDelete
  49. My point was, they they are rarely linked to 'average' players. We are, continuously ..

    ReplyDelete
  50. Lallana/Lovren was exactly the same. On the Vermaelen link, perhaps they want TWO centre backs ..

i think cameron brannigan has a higher chance then rossiter as well

    ReplyDelete
  62. I wish people stop using pace as the ultimate argument when it comes to how good is a midfielder or an attacker... So It' as almost as if you guys are saying Sterling(OR mArkovic) would be a great player regardless of facts he can't cross properly or score but Suso is shiiite eventhough he can find a guy to assist between 6 other players or score from 25 yards like he is alone on the pitch...

    ReplyDelete
  63. Nevergonnacrackthecode4:35 pm, August 09, 2014

utd can sign whoever they want , that is not our concern , we should concentrate on ourselves

    ReplyDelete
  64. Three words. One very average player. Shaun Wright-Phillips.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Nevergonnacrackthecode4:36 pm, August 09, 2014

suso never made one assist in his first season in the prem
sterling scored pretty quick vs reading

    ReplyDelete
  66. Nevergonnacrackthecode4:37 pm, August 09, 2014

yes but we are talking about an attacking mid that is meant to play on the right or left

    ReplyDelete
  67. Some develop faster some slower it has nothing to to with bigger quality, just the PACE of development. That is why Suso needed a year in Almeria and Sterling didn't.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Never said it was ...

  69. Our transfer business is just worrying 😦 where does BY find these players

    ReplyDelete
  70. Nevergonnacrackthecode4:47 pm, August 09, 2014

    i agree
adam lallana is also not particularly quick

but i have not seen any signs from suso , i know you said players progress at different rates

but adnan januzaj showed his potential early on , suso has yet to show anything , he always cuts in and loses the ball

    ReplyDelete
  71. Nevergonnacrackthecode4:49 pm, August 09, 2014

    thank god for this site!
this is anfield their moderation is quite annoying , you cannot make a decent debate their
does anyone know any other good lfc sites similar to this

    ReplyDelete
  72. I think his preseason was great so far, right? Of course that isn't much, but still counts to something.. Plus in La Liga he was rather good- quite a display vs Barca, in a team that was almost relegated..

    ReplyDelete
  73. I think theese two are the only worth visiting....

    ReplyDelete
  74. Nevergonnacrackthecode4:52 pm, August 09, 2014

but do you see something special ?
i want someone like barkley who can go past a player with ease , or score 50 yard screamers

the question i ask is why have liverpool not produced players of a similar ilk to barkley or rooney since gerarrd?

    ReplyDelete
  75. Nevergonnacrackthecode4:52 pm, August 09, 2014

i used to visit koptalk but then i found out the guy is a conman

    ReplyDelete
  76. Well that is the point when I see Sterling, Ibe and Suso I see 3 starters in a CL winning team in the future, and for now they can develop further in the club and contribute enough to keep us in the top 4.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Nevergonnacrackthecode4:57 pm, August 09, 2014

    but sterling acme from qpr

    maybe from the outside
like barcaloena we assume their all form barca

is their not a way we can snatch evertons young talents, this lusden guy is very good as well

like real madrid do with atletico

    ReplyDelete
  82. I hate Real for what are they doing to Atleti, and Bayern for doing it to Borussia. I would like Barkly to stay 8 more years in Everton(and always comE one position behind us).

    ReplyDelete
