After completing a medical earlier today, Benfica star Lazar Markovic has confirmed that he is now a Liverpool player.
Earlier this evening, the 'unstoppable' 20-year old attacker posted on his Facebook page an official a photo of himself holding a Liverpool shirt, with a caption underneath reading:
'Next destination: Liverpool!'
I'd say that's pretty conclusive evidence that Markovic has signed for Liverpool.
The Serbian international is due to be officially announced at some point tomorrow, and if that happens, perhaps he'll be registered in time for Liverpool's Saturday friendly against Preston.
Can Markovic have a Coutinho/Sturridge-like impact on LFC? Hopefully, but it all depends on whether Rodgers' plays him regularly.
Luis Alberto barely got a game last season, and he's the same age as Markovic. Mamadou Sakho cost slightly less, but he spent a lot of time on the bench, too.

Sounds good to me, love the potential here!
ReplyDeletebut at what cost aspas is gone how will we cope for 2014/2015
ReplyDeleteWith Aspas and Luis gone, who will take the corners, ?.
ReplyDeleteI'm still worried about who's going to score all the own-goals and Carra's been gone for a whole season...!!
ReplyDeletewhat will we ever do
ReplyDeleteSkrtel fill that role like a boss!
ReplyDeleteskrtel's got that covered dude
ReplyDeleteKhedira is available for 20mil Why are we not going for him
ReplyDeletehas to be said he's a real cutie
ReplyDeleteI'm worried he's too light weight for the prem.
ReplyDeleteHeard Liverpool are lining up a £30 million bid for Marco Rues. I hope it's damn true
ReplyDeletejames pearce from the echo says that the reus rumours are news to the club in other words there just rumours
ReplyDeleteStrength in depth! I hear Hansen has decided to leave MOTD... :) pay-as-you-play deal?
ReplyDeleteI'll take him over Sakho.
ReplyDeleteAre 7/2 with skybet to sign Reus, most probably priced like that due to lots of money being bet on the back of rumours. Would be nice if there was something to this and things were being worked on behind the scenes. We could do with one big name signing to go with deals already done/pending. Hopefully this Markovic guy will be a success.
ReplyDeleteI may have just watched a few too many Frankensteiney things lately, but surely there must be a way of swapping their brains!?! I mean Hansen has already got the scar on his head and it looks like someone has had an earlier attempt with Mark Lawrenson and one of the Wurzels... There's got to be a way
ReplyDeleteI'd buy that for a dollar :-)
ReplyDeleteOn a totally different note whens our kit deal up for renewal...bloody Utd getting three times the amount a season more than we are getting with their adidas deal.
ReplyDelete200k per week apparently
ReplyDeleteThis confirms nothing
ReplyDeleteHaha :) I'll donate my Mattel chemistry set to the cause
ReplyDeleteKhedira gets injured if the wind blows. His injury history is terrible. He couldn't even make it through the warm up for the World Cup final without getting injured yet again.
ReplyDeleteYou cropped out the tag on the jersey a fan ask him to hold it like that !!!!
ReplyDeleteDoes not really matter the lad is signing, also there is a leaked photo of him doing an interview in the training top which will probably be aired tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteDid this fan also hack into Markovic's facebook account and type: 'Next Destination: Liverpool'?
ReplyDeleteNo, it's actually Alec Baldwin in a bad disguise performing the "hard on behind a cloth" magic trick, look closely at the collar area! My mate Coutinho's a magician and he's already showed me how it's done.
ReplyDeleteMarkovic looks an exciting talent, but he always seems to run into trouble. alot like Andros Townsend. but he has that Messi style of player to him in the way he dribbles, movement and pace. he also looks like he got the Chip in his locker. in any sense, he has massive potential if coached well. i reckon a manager like BR will unlock this potential. but £20M is definately a risky signing. with Reus available for £30M, Firmino for £20M and Yarmolenko for £15-20M i think we should have passed on Markovic. IMO he is no where near the level of Raheem Sterling, and there is no excuses, if he doesnt perform, we cant say he is young because we are Liverpool FC and he should not have signed if he is not going to contribute at least 10 goals and 5 assists. if he can achieve this he can consider himself having a successful season. i think our best player is now Adam Lallana and now that Suarez is gone Lallana will really be able to shine. Lallana can do it all, he doesnt get enough ratings, but i know BR rates him highly and his fee will be justified. hes a standout PL performer, and all the goals he scored last year were spectular. in his own right Adam Lallana is a Lionel Messi. he can do it on his own. my Starting 11 for next year will be
ReplyDelete--------------------------------Mingolet
Flanagan-----------Skrtel------------Lovren-------Enriqie/Moreno
----------------------Can/Gerrard---------Henderson
-------Sterling----------------Lallana------------Markovic
-------------------------------Sturridge
Seriously reckon there will be another forward signed especially if we offload Borini...we'll only have Lambert as back up to DS. Although I reckon Sterling could be turned into an out an out goal scorer In a way Owen used to be. We're looking like we will have a lot more attacking options this season, hopefully that will make up for losing a great player in Luis.
ReplyDeleteSurely its not possible Ayre went to Spain to just sort out the Aspas deal, With Markovic undergoing a medical and ready to sign on the dotted line.
ReplyDeleteAyre has to be there to conclude the Moreno deal, makes no sense otherwise.
In my mind anything Ayre is involved makes no sense!
ReplyDeleteFlanni Alves is okay and all, but since we lost Suarez's magic in the final third, want a full back with pace. Serge Aurier is pacy and whips a good low cross, he's ideal for us, as Sturridge is Sh*t in the air, and most of Serge's cross are of low trajectory.
ReplyDeleteSince we won't have Suarez brilliance up top, we need to get up the field quicker. We'll have to take the Dortmund approach and counter attack/press the f*ck out of teams.
Flanni Alves will be good for some games as he's more defensive. Even that DeAndre Yedlins could be an option, and would settle give Flanni competition improve his attacking side of his game.
i really like Romelu Lukaku, but even though hes for sale i doubt they will sell him to us. so in that case it will have to be Bony, and i really like him as well. hes a top class finisher and guarentees 20 goals a season no matter where he plays. also grabbed 2 goals in 3 games at the world cup. if Spurs snap up Bony then we should move quickly for Remy.
ReplyDeleteHe could have just went to a motorcycle convention... The guy is a bit of a Numpty. Hope he goes to German to buy Reus though, but the tw@t will come back with a VW Golf.
ReplyDeleteThe picture very grainy... it could be Claire Rourke
ReplyDeleteNaw,he'd pay £10 million for a Trabat.Rhymes with.....
ReplyDeleteRojo is a bit agricultural for my liking.
ReplyDeleteThis signing is in no way comparable with Luis Alberto
ReplyDeleteIs pastore ?
ReplyDeleteNo, a fine player Pastore, getting him would be a real coup.
ReplyDeleteWe'll have to wait and see if Markovic gets a regular starting spot or not. I'm not convinced he'll walk into the first team and we've got at least one more significant signing to make in the forwards. He'll be competing with Sterling and Coutinho, maybe Suso and whatever other player(s) we bring in. He'll surely get more game time that Alberto and Aspas did last year but I don't think he'll be a lock-in for the starting line-up. I'd give him at least a year to settle in, have a few good performances but maybe a bit inconsistent, a bit like Sterling during his breakout year.
ReplyDeleteQuit harping on Alberto. Focus on the future. Does anybody here have
ReplyDeletepastore is really inconsistant though
ReplyDeleteSterling, Ibe, Lallana, Markovic, Henderson, Coutinho and Sturridge are all capable of getting up the field crazy quick.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds ominous but there is room for interpretation. He's right to say that they are not allowed to talk about it, they're not. The transfer fee will officially remain a secret until it shows up in public accounting figures, although you can see how easily these figures are leaked. In this case the club president is telling us what happened, but he's using a few minced words to not be totally clear. I wonder if Liverpool will lodge a complaint to FIFA for a breach of contract terms because he just shouldn't be saying these things.
ReplyDeleteIf that's the full and final fee they paid then it's absolutely disappointing. Otherwise I think it's possible to interpret his statement as being that the upfront fee was around 80 million euros with add-ons to come later. He says "roughly you are right". If Barcelona have paid an upfront fee of 80 million euros and Suarez is now a Barcelona player then "roughly speaking" it is accurate to say that they have only paid 80 million for the player. They might pay more later as he reaches certain milestones. It would be "roughly" correct to interpret it that way.
As another poster said below, I think their previous transactions with Neymar is a reason to distrust anything this man says, not the other way around. As a club they have established a precedent of dodgy dealings. Just because they got caught once doesn't mean they're suddenly angels, it more likely means they're just going to be more careful with breaching the rules. You could guess either way but I certainly don't agree that it makes them MORE trustworthy.
Maybe you forgot to mention that football is a team game. so what works for France may not work for Liverpool. And he's not a disaster? how about just one comparison?
ReplyDeleteagger+skrtel had 8 clean sheets opposed to 1 of skrtel+sakho.
With 135 million pounds to spend, I would bring 1 quality center back, one left back, 2 midfielders and 2 attackers opposed to 10. Don't get me wrong but I don't think more than 3 transfers will work. markovic? for 20 million (14 would be enough I suppose)? yes, he's for future but it's better to live the present in transfer market. otherwise, be prepared to celebrate future while failing at present and losing away key players time after time.
I don't know but he tries to give me heart attack every time he's one the ball.
ReplyDeleteI think if Suarez transfer went anything below bales transfer fee ..then there shoukd be double transfer from lfc...suarez out fr whichever price ...and and Ian AYRE fr free
ReplyDeleteThe last biting incident left the club in no doubt he had to go he will do some bad stuff at Barca and god knows how many games they will get from him.
ReplyDeleteHe may be a top player but not when hes having to sit in the stands, on another issue i am disappointed to see Blatter come out and defend Suarez just because he was moving to a Spanish club.
Just another criminal from FIFA i suppose.
75M is a bargain. Top scorer and top assists before the last game in the toughest league.. He's worth at least 100m
ReplyDeleteOnly in our dreams could we hope to sign Reus. I'm praying for him and Arturo Vidal and DiMaria.
ReplyDeleteI think that will be our plan. We don't need our deeper midfielders to commit themselves too far forward, we'll have a selection of attacking players who will get up the pitch at pace and slice defences apart. For all his skill and guile, pace was never an attribute that Suarez had.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't be surprised at all if it was £64 million. It is galling to think that Bale went for £20 million more, but could we have realistically retained his services?
ReplyDeleteI, like most fans, felt let down by Suarez and in the immediate aftermath of the bite I thought we would be lucky to get £40 million plus Sanchez.
I hope Suarez cops himself on and goes on to do great things. Barca's alleged £3 million bite clause might finally sort him out, although LFC had reformed him well last season.
His efforts on the pitch were miraculous at times. Simply irreplaceable
I reckon they are trying to bring someone in who's worthy of the no.7 shirt. If they fail to get him (whoever that may be) then Lambert will be given it as he's not been allocated a number yet? Perhaps I'm being over optimistic, but I'm hoping they bring someone worthy in soon. It would be a dream for Lambert to wear no.7, but he's not really suitable IMHO.
ReplyDelete"Khedira gets injured if the wind blows". Hahaha...
ReplyDeleteInteresting article in the Echo.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/how-liverpool-fc-play-without-7402574
Time will tell.
I doubt we will ever know the true fee as we will never know things like... Did Suarez put in a transfer request? thus negating any cut of the fee or did he forego any cut to help ease the transfer? or are Barcelona paying that part of the fee? we also have to factor in 4 months wages (£200k per week) that we would be paying without him playing.
ReplyDeleteTherefore if we didn't pay him a cut and you include the saving on wages the overall transfer value is considerably more (on paper).
Having said that though I agree with a lot of the posts in saying I wouldn't trust a word out of Barcelona, recent history has shown how corrupt continental football is.
You can bet your bottom dollar now he is playing for Barcelona and with Sepp throwing his two penneth in Suarez's ban will be reduced.
Would we have got it reduced I very much doubt it.
I wish him all the best for the future, he helped get us back into the champions league and we almost won the title. I'm glad I saw him play week in week out (when not banned) in a red shirt. Do I think he was an Anfield Legend? No he wasn't here for long enough.
Good luck Luis, now we move on.
You into steeling line from Jamie now
ReplyDeleteI was being slightly facecious (as usual) lumping all officials and all journalists togther, But good research on your part.
ReplyDeleteI would just say though that he was vice president during the time of the Neymar transfer and it seems inconceivable (to me) that he was not fully involved in what went on or at least aware of it.
At the time he said: "The signing of Neymar was exemplary, there was nothing obscure about it and it has already been explained with complete clarity. What's important is that we have him with us and now we have to enjoy him".
Clear;y it was far from exemplary or clear and if he had not been party to the decisions he could have just said so but it seems he lied.
£75 million was a great return, I just don't think Bale should've been £85 million. £50-£60 maybe? But not £85.
ReplyDeleteSevilla have confirmed that Aspas will join on a season long loan with the option to make it permanent. Score lots of goals and push your price up mate!
ReplyDeleteok i am leaving this forum now
ReplyDeleteGood point
ReplyDeleteNot a bad line up, there, and from the bench:
ReplyDeleteLambert
Ibe
Allen
Coutinho
Sakho
Kelly
Suso
At £20M he had better be starting or on the bench for virtually every match. We are not Chelsea or Man City. Even with the Suarez money, we need players at £20M to be making an instant impact.
ReplyDeleteYet another article from the self righteous jamie k, never wrong always right and if you choose to question him out comes the banstick. Do us all a favor and remove yourself from the gene pool as soon as humanly possibly, thx
ReplyDeleteThat's right! He had no pace, but made up for it with skill and trickery!
ReplyDeleteHowever, we can now field any combination of 3-5 zippy attackers.
i think he is the best, and BR can raise hm much better lets wait.
ReplyDeleteOh yes, he's a wily old fox at that...
ReplyDeleteJaimie K you completely out of touch with all of us on here, have you made yourself believe your in a court room situation? the way you speak to people makes me cringe, please read through your posts and realise how pathetic your responses are. some advice for future ... carm down relax your not in a serious political debate ok buddy nobody here is challenging you. jeez your an outcast on here wake up stop been a doosh n chillout. amen
ReplyDeleteThat us not literally true though is it? He has not "directly reference(d) the fee" has he? He just "roughly" agreed with the interviewer. There is a lot of potential interpretation and scope in "roughly".
ReplyDeleteYou're just being pedantic yet again. The journo specifically references the fee and the buyout clause; Bartomeu then directly references the fee by stating 'we are not allowed to explain a lot about this'.
ReplyDelete'This' = the Luis Suarez transfer fee, and that is a direct reference to the fee.

ReplyDeleteTy Jaimie K !!!
ReplyDeleteAs most people are saying the fee won't be know till the accounts are published but why do you focus so much on the negative and appear to get joy out of slagging people off eg ayre, Rodgers, Suarez and generally anyone LFC. And give me your stock bull answer about speaking the truth while everyone else has their head in the sand. Specifically this article is based on a comment which didn't state we only got £64m but you choose to spin it in a negative way and take cheap swipes at people when you have no factual basis for doing so. It baffles me why.
ReplyDeleteJaimie I am not being pedantic it is just going back to my original point. I assume you have a better English education than myself so you know that "this" could mean other things but doesn't necessarily mean the transfer fee. The journo dos discuss the club knocking th price down and he could be referring to this. It is a fair assumption that he is discussing the fee but it is still not very direct as he neither mentions the fee or use the word fee. He also says "roughly". Like i say not very direct and ambiguous.
ReplyDeleteLook I am not saying he isn't implying it I mad that point clear in the other post. I am sure is intentionally being clever. H says nothing directly and has the reporter do his dirty work for him. Whether it is true or not he was not allowed to talk about it and didn't.He had someone else say it and if later accused he can say it was misinterpretation. These guys are politicians mate. They know how to play the game.
I agree with you here actually. Especially the ranking system. My issue is after one and two you get in to murky waters and it is preferable to have more than on of the 3-7 sources. That is what a good reporter does so 8 should b newspaper report and 8 and 9 should b 9 and 10.
ReplyDeleteHe's not "lying". He said it's roughly in that range. Who knows if he's exaggerating or not? I just enjoy the fact that you so casually accept that what he's saying must be true in spite of what's been widely reported, as though he doesn't have a skin in the game.
ReplyDeleteWhen in fact, he has everything to gain and nothing to lose by implying the fee is lower than what has been widely reported.
There must be something I'm missing re the Markovic deal. It is reported that Liverpool have bought Benfica's 50% of his contract and elsewhere it's said Chelsea own the other 50%! How then can we claim to have signed him? Not clear to me.
ReplyDeleteHe's not tall but he's broadshouldered with a massive backside, he'll be fine.
ReplyDeleteFrom what I've seen of Markovic he's at his best breaking forward from central positions, moving from anchor-man to striker in a flash. I don't see him as a Messi; more like a Lampard that can run quickly.
ReplyDeleteYeah but that doesn't mean we'll see the best of him. New players take time, especially 20 year olds.
ReplyDelete
