True or False? Barca reveal the surprising truth re €81m Suarez's 'no-bite' clause

Multiple sources claim that ex-Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has a 'no-bite' clause in his new contract with Barcelona, but is that really true? According to Barca Sporting Director Andoni Zubizarreta, it's a load of media nonsense.

In an interview with Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo this week, Zubizaretta dismissed the notion that Suarez's contract claims a 'no-bite clause'. He explained:

"There is no clause in the contract regarding Suarez's behavior.

"Everybody makes mistakes and we learn from mistakes...and we need to rectify these mistakes to ensure they don't happen again"

Would Barcelona admit it if such a clause actually existed? Probably not, but given Suarez's history, it seems unlikely - and possibly negligent - that a club with such a rarefied image would sign such a controversial player protecting itself in some way.

Suarez - who allegedly cost Barcelona €81m - is an absolutely amazing player, but he cannot be trusted to control himself, and Liverpool discovered this several times, to the club's immense detriment.

Of course, it's entirely possible that Barcelona just don't care. Suarez's history doesn't affect the Catalan club, and at this stage, no one will associate Barca with the Uruguayan's negative behaviour.

It's a dangerous strategy though, and if Barca are contractually unprotected, it could come back to bite them on the a$$.

  1. If there was such a clause then who will be funding it?

  4. Ah yes it would appear so. Any chance of that explanation as to why you kept deleting my perfectly civil posts jaimie?

  8. You've always been able to comment. Your posts were deleted because you are just bitching about the site, and not engaging in discussion about football/LFC. If you think an article is pointless, keep it to yourself. If you post complaints about the relevance of articles, they will be deleted. It is a form of sniping; if you don't like an article, don't comment on it.

  9. I hope for their sake there is a clause in the contract. Oh, who am I kidding? I hope he bites people left and right.

  10. Is this not a comments page? It was my opinion that the article in question had absolutely no relevance to LFC and I said so in a perfectly civil manner. Deleting them is, quite frankly, childish IMO

  11. And still you continue (with your latest deleted post) I'm not interested in what you think about the relevance of articles, and it doesn't matter if you state your view in a 'civil' manner. It is sniping; irrelevant, and does not further debate/discussion.

If you don't like a particular article, ignore it. It's that simple.

Link to an article of a Journalist from Maisfutebol who followed Markovic's progress last season quite often. Worth a read.

  15. Suarez will be under way more pressure playing for Barca then ever for us. Rodgers did an amazing job of controlling Suarez and Barca will just not be able to do that. By the way, Jaimie, first time poster and love your site and I feel that it is the best Liverpool site on the web.

  22. I suppose in football we close one eye as long as the individual brings glory to the club. As fans, we put up with maverick, enigmatic and even "mad" individuals as long as they score goals. Though I am disappointed with LS bite incident, yet it would be nice to have him for another season. Bite or no bite, 31 goals do bite the opposition..However, to be fair to the team, LS has not really scored freely against the top side of the table(i am just basing this on memory, so I could be wrong on this aspect).
In my part of the world, I have yet to read on increase biting incidents involving children emulating LS; and even if they do, it is quite normal for children who need help to do that.

  23. Especially when he comes back from his ban...

The fans are already in an uproar over the supposed fee, and they seem to feel like they got a player they didn't need. I disagree... when you get a realistic chance to sign one of the top strikers in the world, you have to take it.

  24. But, I just do not know why we did not ask for Pedro to be included in the deal if Sanchez did not want to come. He is as good if not better than Sanchez. Also, most Barca fans are fuming that they sold Sanchez instead of Pedro.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Because Sanchez is much much better. Pedro is Spanish Welbeck.

    ReplyDelete
  26. He is not that bad. He is very clinical in his finshing and has way more skill than Welbeck. His stats are also very good. 50m and Pedro would have been a better deal than what we got.

  27. Cheating crybaby. I just can not get past that when it comes to him...

  30. With respect, so being critical of a article on a critical blog site is not permitted? Seem a bit odd

    ReplyDelete
  31. Who's to say we didn't? It would have been nice, but perhaps Pedro wouldn't want to come here, or perhaps we did ask and Barca wasn't interested in selling. Or perhaps we just wanted to get the deal done as quickly as possible without throwing another wrench into it.

The priority has to be to qualify for champions league next season - if we have a decent champions league campaign this year it will strengthen our position in the transfer market next year. As some players might not be too sure about what they will get with Liverpool this season, with all the strong competition in the PL, will me make champions league again or not may be the question most especially when we no longer have Suarez - But if we can still offer champions league football next season then the next years window will be very different.

  34. No, it's not odd in the slightest. Attack the argument, not the person/site. People don't come here to read comments about what X thinks about the site; they come here to read peoples' opinions about football. If visitors have a problem with the articles, they don't have to come here; there are plenty of other LFC sites out there.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Haha. I'm sure that will be the case.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I suppose when you are welcoming a new player to your club you want things to be good and positive.

No one wants to be thinking about negative behaviour and sanctions etc as it tends to put a bit of a downer on proceedings. The potential cost of having a player who feels he is not being properly supported could outweigh the risk of any future misdemeanor.

  37. To be fair I never said anything in my post about you or the site, I actually enjoy this site very much. My criticism was aimed at the content of that article and was said in a very civil manner. I'll take your point on board about ignoring any future articles that aren't to my taste, however I do think that defeats the purpose of being able to leave a comment somewhat
