CL Winner insists: £23m LFC 'genius' will be a 'great signing' for Barca. Transfer Close?

Another day, another person coming out of the woodwork claiming that 'genius' Liverpool striker Luis Suarez wants to join Barcelona. Yesterday, it was his father-in-law; today, it's Gabri Garcia, his former team-mate at Ajax

In a radio interview today, Gabri - who won the Champions League with Barcelona in 2006 - told Catalan radio station La Xarxa:

"He [Suarez] has always wanted to play for Barcelona.

"He will be a great signing for Barca [and] will adapt quickly because of his hunger. He has what it takes to deal with the pressure"

Gabri also claimed he is 'close friends' with Suarez:

"We became very good friends [at Ajax]. Our wives also became friends and we have kept in touch. His wife's family is also in Barcelona".

On Monday, Gustavo Balbi - Suarez's father-in-law - claimed that the Uruguayan has 'nothing left to prove in England', and urged him to quit Anfield. He told La Sexta:

"It is the right time for a change. The best solution would be if he were to go to Spain. This would be the best move for him as he would not go to another team in England out of respect for Liverpool.”

Barcelona are reportedly preparing a whopping £82m bid for Suarez, which will represent a humungous £60m profit for a player who cost Liverpool just £23m in 2011.

The Reds forced Suarez to stay last summer, but I doubt the 'get tough' strategy will work this year, especially with such a massive fee on the table.

If Suarez is to leave, then so be it, but some kind of swap deal involving a couple of Barcelona players (plus cash) is clearly the best possible outcome for LFC.

£50m-plus Sanchez/Pedro ought to do it.

  1. 50 million plus Sanches and Pedro. Yes please.

  2. If Suarez were to leave to Barca, then I want a GUARANTEE that we get more than just Sanchez. However good he may be, him alone won't cover for losing Suarez.

Getting heaps of money from the transfer and all is great, but there's no guarantee that we'll use it properly, therefore I want us to take a safe route and get more than one proven Barca player. Which brings me to this.
I want Sanchez, 30 million...and Messi. Nah, joking. But still, Pedro and Sanchez would be awesome. The worth of having Sanchez and Pedro would be about 150% the worth of having Suarez alone.

  3. For the right price. sell this MF. He is a football genius with a childs brain.
LFC must focus on progress in football and not delve in trivial issues of a child superstar footballer called Suarez.

  4. 50 mil plus Sanchez sounds like a decent offer in the real world but not in the wacko world of inflated transfer fees. If levy can get 85 mil for bale we should get close to 75 mil plus sachez for Luis.

  5. we should get Firmino and keep Suarez for at least another season. The attack of Suarez Sturridge Coutinho Sterling is amazing and should give theyre proformance in the champion league. Barca is not an entertaining clun at the moment to watch and ithink LFC can go further than them in the champion leauge and perhaps win the title if Suarez stays and we get some cool signings.
    Firmino for attack.
    Khedira or Parejo for midfield.
Coentrao, Blind, Rojo or Moreno for LB,
    Lovern, Richards should do it.

That's five signings away from glory.

  6. 50Mio plus Sanchez sounds great....but I prefer Lallana to Pedro...i think Pedro would limp of his first PL-Game with two broken legs...he should stay in Spain...for the 50 Mio I would take Lallana, Michu/Remy and another Keeper...
and for the money of our deadwood buy an LB (Moreno/Rodriguez) and Lovren

  7. If we do make the deal with Barca the only player i really think we should get outa them is Montoya who is perfect for LFC and Sanchez on some levels will fit as well but he himself is not the solution to sustain our attacks ability.

  8. Try 100 million+, in wat world do supporters want to sell there best players anyway, would barca sell messi? Liverpool said hes not gor sale suarez said hes staying were in the champions league. Until liverpool and suarez speak on the matter i dont care wat everyone else says, we should be getting players like sanchez and keeping our best players at the same time! Thats wat big clubs do. Look wat happened to tottenham

  9. would be great if held on to Suarez and bought Sanchez also

    ReplyDelete
  10. Suarez come out just before world cup and said he is happy at Liverpool.
If he is not then Montoya Sanchez 50-60 mil or sell to real Madrid Isco and 60mil

    ReplyDelete
  11. Were essentially selling our goals. Who the heck is going to replicate that. And don't forget we would be selling out assists away too. Hell maybe our offensive mojo.
    NO!
    Say no to LS sale.

  12. Jaimie laid out pretty clearly yesterday (and other times previously) how Suarez has said how how he is and still wanted a transfer.

  13. If the player is determined to leave they will. Last year Suarez used Arsenal's interest as a way to try and tempt Real or Barcelona to come in for him, when that didn't happen he let it go and stayed.

I am not confident if either of Barca or Real coming in for him he will not force it through.

Don't get me wrong i really hope he stays I'm just not confident that he will sadly.

  14. If FSG signed Suarez to a deal with anything less than a £101m release clause they are crazy. Suarez is on par with Ronaldo and Messi. How much would it cost to pry either of them away from their teams? Whatever number you came up with, that's where I'd start if I were FSG.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I don't care about all these will he go/stay stories and quotes. If he is still here next season and performs like last then great. If not a big load of cash and a player like Sanchez will do. In an ideal world we sign alexis and keep what we have whilst adding one or two others.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Suarez refused to sign a contract with a buy out clause more than 70mil if memory serves me right.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Just a weird question: how are they asking Suarez's father-in-law questions? I've never heard of such a thing.

Did he go to the center of town and hold a press conference? Did they stalk him out of his home?

Does anyone have any idea on this?

    ReplyDelete
  18. The reason why Suarez signed the new deal was to get a clear cut release clause in his contract and increase his current wages. He was in a a no-lose situation.

He stays and makes a lot more money here.

Or he goes and makes a lot more money elsewhere, and puts the team in a position where they don't feel like they are getting ripped off. 40m+1 is a rip-off. 70m is much more amenable.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Totally agree with you again. I don't want Suarez to leave but as you said we have to face facts and events this summer are following a similar pattern to last year's debacle. While I appreciate it is not great at all to sell our best player, maybe we need to be rid of this circus and get the best deal possible. Sanchez and Pedro and cash (maybe 30-40M) would be a great deal IMO. That would give us another lethal forward line and more cash (on top of existing cash) to invest in the back four and perhaps another midfielder.

    ReplyDelete
  20. And I will also add this. Liverpool can not adopt the same mentality Man Utd had when they sold Ronaldo. United's top 4 status was not in jeopardy if they sold Ronaldo. Not even their title-challenging status. They thought, 'awhhh you beauty, 90 million quid thank you very much!'

Our top 4 status *is in* jeopardy if we sell Suarez , let alone our title-challenging status. This is why we really need to be careful in the decision-making process of this whole transfer saga. One bad decision and we could end up like Spurs.

  21. 100 mill for a footballer is ridicilous in my opinion, but if Bale went for probably more, it is the lowest ammount that Suarez should be sold. And remembering how AC price went sky high when we sold Torres, plus the fact that Suarez is very hard to replace(and will probably be FIFA player of the year), Sanches plus 70 mill or Di Maria plus 70 mill is the least we should ask for.
All that if he does want to leave. If he does not we should not sell, not even for 150.

    ReplyDelete
  22. He could be in Brazil...

    ReplyDelete
  23. wouldn't be surprised if they had approached a random guy on the street and asked, "If you were Luis Suarez's father-in-law, what advice would you give him?"
Next thing you know, the headline: Luis Suarez's Father-In-Law Says Superstar Should Make Switch To Barca!!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Was anyone from FSG or BR or Suarez himself quoted saying that?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Not Pedro I AGREE, BUT sANCHEz just might. Or Di Maria.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I would sign Balloteli. For 10 pounds. When he plays for Italy he controlls himself, but no other manager can do that to him other the Itallian national team manager because he knows there will be always someone willing to pay his wages, and there is no other national squad he can go to.

    ReplyDelete
  27. JK has always had, and is always trying to push, an agenda that Suarez will leave in the not too distant future. Any kind of quotes which support this agenda will be like music to his hears ;)

    ReplyDelete
  28. OI Jamie fan what are you talking about I come out and say yes sell him money plus players .
So what the hell you on
If he goes to Real get Benzema Isco 50mil
    barca Montoya sanchez plus 50mil

    ReplyDelete
  29. We must keep this guy at all costs. He's happy as red. We're in much stronger postion than we were last summer where the world still knew he was one of the best. No reason to sell even if £85m was put on the table. City can offer Barca £200m for Messi but that doesn't mean he'll be wearing blue next season. It's just media rubbish and after Luis rubbed the their face it in, they want to see him gone asap. Not gonna happen. We're on the up, scoring more than any other team in Europe, people should be queuing up to join us not leave any more...YNWA

    ReplyDelete
  30. I recall people claiming last summer that he had always wanted to play for Real Madrid, now they're talking about his everlasting love for Barcelona...

    ReplyDelete
  31. Oh, oh, and he always played as Liverpool on FIFA!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Bob this had me in stitches hahaha!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Agreed. Sanchez & Pedro + money then we can start talking.

    ReplyDelete
  34. And the funny thing is, if Suarez does end up leaving this summer, he will say 'I told you so' even though he's been pushing this agenda for over three years now and nothing happened .

    ReplyDelete
  35. three seasons I mean

    ReplyDelete
  36. Sorry, I mistyped... meant to say that Suarez has expressed in the past that he is happy at LFC, and then turned around and asked for a transfer.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Same could have been said about Suarez that he would never calm down and was always going to be up to his antics but he was excellent this season in terms of performance and attitude.

As i said at 23 you would like to think that Balotelli will be maturing and will be growing out of his childish tomfoolery.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Robbie Keane style.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Nope. I remember reading it somewhere online when he was extending his contract. Could be media crap. who knows???

    ReplyDelete
  40. I strongly believe that FSG knew that 100 mill is relistic price tag, maybe even more..

    ReplyDelete
  41. In terms of talent he is up there with Suarez me thinks.. But I just don't believe he will ever be mature enough, maybe when he is 38 but that's too late for football...
Sterling has similar(enough) personal life(read mess), but he was young enough and obviously had better family guidance, and luck to stumble across BR. He is now away from London, but still in his own country playing for a team half of England loves and that is one of the most romantic stories this season and this century. He has Steven Gerrard, had Carra to pick him up vs Chelsea when they tackled him down for example- he has something to look forward, appriciate and love about football- Mario will always be a stranger no matter where he goes. AC Milan is team he supported as a child(REALLY), but not even there he found his peace because there is no Maldini there any more for example, or Ancelloti, and they are falling appart.
Sadly, I think that Mario who could have been Ballon d'or will be rembered as just a could've been.

    ReplyDelete
  42. 30 mil plus Sanchez, pedro and alves would do me very nicely.
That aside Gabri said Suarez has "always wanted to play for Barcelona" relating to conversations they had in their Ajax days. At no point in time did he say Suarez "wants to" in the current sense, which is the way you're reporting it.
I have said all along, I'm not saying Suarez won't go but up until now there is absolutely nothing to report. Suarez has always dreamed of playing for Barcelona as has every Latin player, if not every player. That's not news.
His wife's family live near Barcelona, as they have for years. That's not news either.
In summary absolutely nothing has happened regarding Suarez and a transfer other than some highly dubious stories in the Spanish media and a couple of throwaway comments from his wife's old boy and an old team mate. Like I say nothing has happened and I for one am not gonna get all excited about it until something does

    ReplyDelete
  43. Just read an article on Liverpool offside- What price loyalty. Brilliant piece of journalism. Hope you don't mind me posting this Jaimie...

    ReplyDelete
  44. Sad thing is it's probably not that far from the truth.

    ReplyDelete
  45. In this instance yes, we could take the player(s) of our choice plus a hefty fee. If Suarez insists on leaving and the right offer comes in then it could be difficult for the club to say no again. I would guess that this time around the release clause in the contract is clearer, albeit substantially higher than the previous one, so it may be a case of just accepting what comes in. In that case we can be sure we'll get a good deal with plenty of money and cut price deals on any players of theirs that we may want. Sanchez really does look like the kind of quality we need and he'd go some way to replacing the creativity that we currently get from Suarez. His world cup form is an extension of what he's already been doing for Barcelona so he's no flash in the pan.

However, I will consistently argue that there is almost never an amount of money that will adequately replace a player like that. 80 or 100 million pounds sounds like a massive amount, surely it would be enough says the conventional wisdom. I don't agree. A player like Suarez is priceless. There are only 3-5 players in the world that good and a team like Liverpool would never be in a position to buy one. We'd never be the team on the other side of that deal, forking out dumb money for one of the very best in the world. We just don't have that kind of money. However we DO already have that kind of player. So why would we sell? Why give up that kind of quality? Money is nice, but if we could never buy a player like that then it follows that no amount of money can replace him. So no matter what we get, we lose. It ultimately won't make any sense. You can only fit 11 players on the pitch at once and buying 2 or 3 extra players with the money doesn't mean we can put those 2 or 3 extra players on the pitch. When it comes to picking the team Suarez can only ever be replaced by one other player, and if that player isn't as good, how can we really hope to be a better team?

I think Liverpool should of course continue to try and improve in every position but if we are struggling to get those kinds of players now, why would having a big wad of extra cash suddenly help? Sometimes it's about more than money, sometimes it's just not that easy to get quality players in, no matter what you have to spend. So maybe we'd have an extra 80 million to spend but if we could not be sure of getting 80 million worth of quality player then what would be the point? Spending money just for the sake of it would be a massive mistake.

if Liverpool have a top drawer replacement player in mind, a Barcelona player included in the swap that they clearly want, and a set of other players just waiting for deals to go through once the money is available then maybe, just maybe it would be a good idea. Those things are not as simple as they sound, no matter how some fans will argue as if it's just a computer game. If we should know anything as Liverpool fans it that transfers are unpredictable and a lot can go wrong. If we can reduce that risk and not get involved in a transfer we don't need to make then we shouldn't do it. Keep Suarez if we can. If he forces the move and the release clause is triggered then so be it, otherwise I say it's no deal, no matter how much or who else is involved.

This story is tosh anyway. It's a no-brainer to say that Barcelona and Madrid are interested in Suarez. Maybe they really are. But going from casual interest to a big money offer with potentially other players involved is a big shift. The papers can talk and it all sounds reasonably plausible but until a real offer is on the table like from Arsenal last year then he's going no where. Apart from that one offer we had ZERO interest in Suarez from anyone else. His outstanding season may have changed that but the lack of concrete offers is telling. I very much doubt that Barcelona have had talks with anyone other than Suarez's agent, if even that.

  50. ship him off :(

  53. If I was FIFA, I would do it.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I'm sure I've just seen Suarez attempt to bite / headbutt Chiellini.
The guy is an complete crazy genius. If he wants to go, get the money, get the players in and get on with it. I'm bored of him and the nonsense that comes out every summer. Players that don't want to leave never seem to have all of these people talking for them so it's quite obvious to me that he would ideally want a move to Spain. He's Latin American and his in laws are in Barca or close enough too it. We should sell him now, build up the squad and give Barca a good hiding when we play them in the Champions League.
Get him out of our club.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Don't give ideas!

    An international ban will plenty.

    PLENTY.

  62. Seriously, the guy is fu****g crazy. I can't believe it, yet it comes as no surprise. I don't even think he has done this to engineer a move. He will be banned for the rest of the World Cup and we know what that means to him. He is simply in need of psychological help and I hope that Barca or Real can provide it for him.

  72. You just look at what's happened today and the only word you can muster is: disgrace. What a disgrace. An affront to the decency of football.

How can Suarez walk on to a football pitch again?

How can he play again when bearing the emotional scars of Chiellini's brutal shoulder assault?

I hope FIFA throw the book at Giorgio and I hope Uncle Sepp gives Luis a nice big hug.
