Liverpool continue to be linked with a move for long-time transfer target Xherdan Shaqiri, and it appears that the Swiss star is LFC's failsafe option, should the proposed deal for Southampton star Adam Lallana collapse.
According to multiple reports, including the Liverpool Echo and The Telegraph:
* The move for 'amazing' Adam Lallana is 'stalling' due to Southampton's demand for a £30m fee.
* Shaqiri is Brendan Rodgers' back-up plan.
* LFC have scouted Shaqiri 'extensively'
* The 22-year old is available for £10m.
When asked in March about LFC's interest, Shaqiri told reporters:
"When you hear these names [i.e. Liverpool] have to listen to the offers if one of these top clubs is interested"
After receiving criticism for his comments, Shaqiri later backtracked a little, and insisted that he's 'very happy in Munich':
"I never said I want to leave. I'm not thinking about leaving, but if a top club comes in, then you've got to consider it - every player is like that."
Shaqiri - recently hailed as 'world class' by Munich's Sporting Director Mattias Sammer - has made only 31 starts for Bayern in the last two full seasons, so he's clearly surplus to requirements.
Is Shaqiri a better option than Lallana? He may be £10m cheaper, but there's no guarantee that he'll adapt quickly to the Premier League. Lallana, on the other hand, may cost more, but he'll almost certainly hit the ground running.
Would Shaqiri improve Liverpool? Would he be regular starter, or would the game-time situation be similar at Anfield? One thing's for sure, he'd be a major upgrade on Alberto/Aspas, and he'd provide solid competition for Coutinho and Sterling.

If i was BR I would not pay the £30m .that's if that figure is true. This might ruin any chances of a top club getting him. To be honest if I was the Southampton manager i wouldn't sell him. They have quality all through their team and if they build on what they have who knows where they could end up. obviously as a Liverpool fan I would want Lallana but Southampton should just go for it and try and better themselves.
ReplyDeleteI would rather have Shaquiri and £15m extra to spend on a World Class CB/ full back.
ReplyDeleteIf he were English he would cost the same as Lallana
Shaqiri is as good as Lallana and cheaper. Go for him, Rodgers!
ReplyDeleteyou must be living in wonderland to think shaqiri is available for £10m. despite not playing much at munich he's rated very highly and regarded as one of the future. ribery is aging, so is robben...so it wouldn't make sense for bayern to sell unless liverpool spend some real money. they'll laugh off every offer beneath £20m
ReplyDeleteI say if he wants him, they should buy him.
ReplyDeletemy only problem with lallana is that he is not good tracking back, and we could bag lovren and shaqiri for the 30mill
ReplyDeleteNo chance of Liverpool paying £30m for Lallana..................£20m is enough.
ReplyDeletejust hope there's no dragging of feet as in past performances in the transfer window. I would rather we sign Shaqiri...and soon (before he's gobbled up by the black hole Tottenham, which I assume is - as always - lurking in the corner)
ReplyDelete30 m is an inflated price for Lallana...ofcourse he is british born but shequiri will be a steal buy if we get him
ReplyDeleteHe is good at closing down and defending from the front though.
ReplyDeleteI like you. No double talk.
ReplyDeleteMade up numbers, made up stories, made up everything. Can't stand the close season. See you in August!
ReplyDeleteSouthampton want to milk it with the sale of Lallana. They will do the same with Lovren.
ReplyDeleteI hear that we will now 'listen to offers' for Daniel Agger, so perhaps we should expect Barca to come a knockin'. Whether that means he's actually been transfer listed or not I have no idea.
ReplyDeleteSpurs do not even have a manager and with the amount of crap they signed last season will have to flog some players first to make space in their squad.
ReplyDeleteBenitez is already knocking on the door.
ReplyDeleteShaqiri, he is 22 and cheaper pls i want to see him in the reds no.11 shirt.
ReplyDeleteMaybe we should stick in a cheeky bid for Yaya Toure - I reckon a birthday card and one Bugatti Veyron should do it.
ReplyDeleteDespite his inconsistencies as a player, I've said many times that I dig his dedication and his clear love for the club. It'll still be a sad day if/when he leaves.
ReplyDeleteI think Agger is just too slow nowadays. I think it was in the recent home match against Tottenham where he was completely outrun by one of their wingers ... he lost a good 10 yards on a 30 yard distance. Next game he was replaced by Sakho ...
ReplyDeleteAge is also not on his side. If we could cash in on him now, that would not be too bad ...
Completely agree though about his dedication and professionalism he's shown over the years.
The problem is, it's not the Southampton manager who pulls the strings there it is Katherina Liebherr and she just wants to make money quickly and get rid of the club. So yes she'll sell it's assets and then, the club. I've said it before, 30 million should get us at least Lambert along with Lallana. Otherwise it's an Andy Carrol type no go transfer for me.
ReplyDeleteThat's the attitude that has cost us so many top class signings in the past. We need to move decisively & get deals completed promptly now more than ever before but for me, this transfer window already feels like the last two & i'm already fed up of the rumours. Liverpool haven't conducted business properly since before Rick Parry left & it's frustrating because we don't seem to have learned from those mistakes! We all know we need serious reinforcements for the coming campaign. If we don't sign the quality, in the right numbers, we can kiss the top four & CL goodbye, it's as simple as that so i would strongly urge FSG to pull their finger out (as well as their wallet) & get the job done. Konoplyanka is a perfect example! How have we reached the point of being in danger of losing out to ANYONE for his signiture when we tried to sign him in January?! Surely (if we're serious about signing the player) Ian Ayre & LFC should have ironed out all the details for a deal to be completed now, since the seaseon's over!?! Also why do we have an entire committee to discuss transfers & only one person to go & negotiate them?!? Considering how slow LFC works in these matters, surely we need a couple of Transfer Execs to go out to different clubs simultaneously in order to broker these deals!?! It's becoming increasingly frustrating & i'm already pessimistic about the outcome of this summers business! FSG never understood football but clearly they don't understand why decisive transfer business can raise the morale of everyone associated with the club. Instead they drag their feet in what looks like an attempt to save a pound or two & they're acting like the Arse bandits imo!! Of course, there's still more time in this window but we're not the only ones looking to strengthen significantly & BR himself stated that he'd like to do as much before the world cup as possible so for me, if we flop in this window i will vent like a mofo!!!
ReplyDeleteJFT96, YNWA.
He has been a top player for us but it IMO we need to cash in while we still can.
ReplyDeleteYep, we've seen that lack of speed quite a few times with Agger this season. His injury proneness is also a major concern, and has been for a while. If we can get 10 million for him then it's the right time to sell.
ReplyDeleteMaybe we are no longer interested in Konoployanka?
ReplyDeleteOh God, why did you have to remind us? The shame, the embarrassment! *hides face*
ReplyDeleteHe is a younger, better and cheaper option
ReplyDeleteWhat attitude.. refusing to be bent over and pay what ever the selling club is demanding..
ReplyDeleteI bet you were one of the first people to complain that we over paid for Carrol and Downing and now we are no longer doing that you are complaining again.
People like you can never be happy.
Some people just moan for the sake of moaning.
ReplyDeleteI would like to see Lallana at LFC but not for beyond 20 mill give me Shaqiri for half the price and great potential.
ReplyDeleteLFC have always, since the mid sixties anyway, played well against Europe's best. Long may this continue.
ReplyDeleteI like your sense of irony.
ReplyDeleteI am already fed up with this Lallana affair. They are asking fir ridiculous money so we should look elsewhere.
ReplyDeleteShaqiri and Konoplyanka please forget Lallana.
ReplyDeleteBring it on!!! Liverpool have got the best track record in Europe compared to other British clubs. One things for sure, we'll get a lot further than man city, arsenal and man utd. Oops!! Forgot manure are not in it. Lol!!!
ReplyDelete:)
ReplyDeleteThis deal hinges on the sell on clause Southampton don't want to pay £5m of the £20m out to another club Bournemouth are desperate for Cash they would rather take less % and have cash than stick to the 25% and the deal fall through liverpool won't increase the offer so we have a Mexican stand off the deal will be done i would then go and do the deal for £10m that allows you to Sell Alberto Aspas and Assaidi those three should bring in half the cost of both deals and instead of having three players you cant play you will have two first teamers
ReplyDeletePepe and Agger to Barca and take one or two of the players they offer Sanchez would do me if deals like this where completed you would end up with a hell of a squad of players you can use going forward Just stay clear of Ashley Cole the last Cole we bought from Chelsea proved very expensive Bertrand is the only LB we want from them
any player with less than three years on his contract can buy up the remaining years of the deal and move to a club abroad on a longer deal maybe that is where they get the figure from maybe the player has said he wants out who knows
ReplyDeleteand shaqiri did also this on a shorter game time ...am just relishing shaqiri and sanchez .solid for our midfield and attack .
ReplyDeleteHe also seems to be consistent ,season to season. Beware the Michu/Jelavic effect....Lallana has to be a bigger risk at that price
ReplyDeleteBuying out his contract is the last thing he'll do & if ANY of you think we'll get him for less than 15-20m minimum, you need to grow a couple more brain cells! Shaqiri won't agitate for a move like Suarez did last summer but if we make a good offer that Bayern accept, he'll say his thank yous' & leave to join us because he wants more game time. Robben & Ribery are getting on but will still command their respective first team places meaning another season on the bench for Shaqiri & that's the ONLY reason he's thinking about a move. If he was given assurances to the contrary, we probably wouldn't be here debating the issue at all because he'd stay at Bayern. Also, if you think LFC are gonna part with 25-30m for Lallana (without having a transfer kitty of 120m minimum) you don't understand LFC. Imo we'll make an offer in the region of 18-20m upfront & any fee on top of that will be performance related! By now you should all realise LFC will NEVER again over pay for ANY player & even our manager backs that stance! I must add that imo LFC actually need both players because we still don't have a proper left footed LM/W which is vital to the balance of the team. I would prefer Konoplyanka myself cos he'd be cheaper & can play on both flanks or through the middle but both are quality players so either will do nicely!
ReplyDeleteJFT96, YNWA.
That was then, this is now!
ReplyDeleteThat's the key point in all of this & imo LFC should already have at least one
ReplyDeletepre-contract agreement in place for Konoplyanka because we've had since January to sort it! This window CANNOT be anything like last January or summer or we can kiss the PL, top four & CL goodbye... simples!!
Are you dumb or just a 10yr old?!? When did i say anything about paying over the odds for a player in my previous comments?!? If we want the player we need to get the negotiations done, if not we need to move on, simples! We spent money going out to the Ukraine, time talking crap to a club that didn't even want to sell the player at that point in time, so why were we putting our efforts into it!?! Because we obviously wanted the player but with the situation as it was, would it not have been better to focus on a player we could get & in a position we needed!?! I would say so but i would have gone back straight afterwards to arrange a pre-contract for this summer with Dnipro because CLEARLY we wanted the player so before you make stupid, almost flippant comments to me, know what your talking about you moron!
ReplyDelete& some people, like yourself, don't think before they speak but such is life! In future, when you realise your arguments are bull*hit & you have nothing intelligent to say, i recommend you shut up! Don't get brave off the back of someone elses foolishness & pipe up like a teenager, it's not impressive!
ReplyDeleteGet it both!!
ReplyDeleteLallana is almost the perfect option for us because he can play wide and centrally. We don't need him to cross the ball but he often linked up with Shaw in wider positions and it's part of the options we always need to have. Sterling was a wide player but has ended up playing centrally. Coutinho is more a true number 10 but we've used him on the left. I don't think these are second choice plans, I think they are the way Rodgers wants to play football. You want a front 3-4 players that can switch to any position so that no matter where they are on the pitch they can combine with team mates. It also makes them harder to defend when you just don't know where a player will end up. So for that reason I think Lallana is the best option for us and he has that proven PL experience. Shaqiri is a similar mould of player, I think he can play centrally. Konoplyanka seems more a direct wide player and I suspect we've moved on from him. He might have been what we wanted at the time but I can't see us playing with two dedicated wide attackers very often.
ReplyDelete£30m??!!! I really want Lallana at Liverpool, but not at that price. The thing is, we need proven Premier League plays that WILL make an impact. Maybe £30m is the way to do it? The pressure is on.
ReplyDeleteId prefer RAKITIC ahead of Lallana! And/or Tello, Iturbe, Shaqiri and even Konoplyanka. But we must be trying to get Rakitic! Sorry if I keep banging on about it but he'd be phenomenal for us..
ReplyDelete1st move should be midfield! Rakitic, Rakitic, Rakitic! PLEASE BR! PLEASE!
ReplyDeleteSee my posts. We are on the exact same page my friend.........
ReplyDeleteWhat was the point of this reply? To moan again?
ReplyDeleteI thought so. Well done!
Logan - stop antagonising other posters! How many times do I have to make this point?
ReplyDeleteFortunately Rodgers and Liverpool do not advocate the inferiority complex so prevalent at other clubs.
ReplyDeleteI, like most other Liverpool fans no doubt, will be totally expecting our club to progress through the group stages at a minimum, even in a a group of death.
Seriously? Why the headline or talk of early exit? None of these 'top six' clubs worries me. I'd say that all six of them should probably hope, NOT to get Liverpool in their group, and face The Reds playing Rodgers football philosphy called. "Death by football" as that would more likely mean an early exit for any of them.
