Many Reds fans - myself included - were surprised to see young LFC attacker Suso sent out on loan in the summer, and reports in Spain this week suggest that the Spaniard wants to quit Anfield at the end of the season.
According to Spanish newspaper El Desmarque:
* Sevilla are in 'advanced negotiations' with Suso over a summer transfer.
* In January, LFC offered Suso a new contract, which he rejected.
* Suso wants to join Sevilla, and has told friends of his intentions.
This comes as absolutely no surprise. Suso is having a fairly impressive season for Almeria, and although he was amenable to a loan move, I still can't understand the logic behind letting him go, and spending €7m on Luis Alberto, who has even LESS top level experience than Suso, and plays in exactly the same position. To me, it just doesn't make any kind of logical sense:
* Alberto obviously has talent, but Suso could've easily taken his place in the squad.
* The Reds could've spent the €7m on someone else (or put it towards another player)
* Rodgers has dumped Alberto from the match day squad for the last FIVE games.
In December, Suso admitted that the 'the football in Spain is a little bit slower than here, so for me it's better', so if he leaves, will it be a significant loss to the club?
* The club has coped fine without him this season.
* Coutinho plays in the same role, and is doing fine.
* 2 goals/7 assists for in 26 apps for Almeria is good, but not great.
* Only one goal in the last 21 games for his loan club.
I'm a fan of Suso, and if he left, it would be a massive waste of a young player with huge talent. However, when assessing the importance of players, I always ask the same question, irrespective of who it is: will LFC's forward progress suffer if X leaves the club?
As much as is it pains me to admit it, the answer in this case is clearly NO. Liverpool have improved exponentially this season, and if Rodgers buys well over the summer, the team should be able to maintain its current consistency, or even better, improve further.
Of course, I personally want Suso to stay at Liverpool. He'd be great competition for Philippe Coutinho, and could conceivably saved the Reds a shedload of cash in the transfer market.

Would have him anyday instead of alberto, but how good is alberto, does anybody actually know? Not really! Never gets chances like pacheco assaidi suso etc. So I dont really know whos better suso or alberto, no one got enough game time here. The only thing I know is it would be a big blow for us if we lose yet another talent in suso.. I guess...
ReplyDeleteI bet the owner of this site is guttered! his favourite team isn't doing too good, lying 7th in the table
ReplyDeletethis site is for the 'fans' who bathe is pessimism and have boring personalities
ReplyDeleteWe didn't offer him a new contract, he still has two years to run. We will likely offer him one when he comes back (he recently said he would like to sign a new contract and if he isn't going to get playing time at Liverpool play another loan season at Almeria)
ReplyDeleteAlso, look at Sevillas finances. They had to sell Navas to City, Navas is one that has repeatedly rejected transfers (he even rejected a call up to play for Spain because he previously had a fear of flying and homesickness which he had to see a psychologist about) they had to sell Alberto and they will probably have to sell Rakitic this summer. Sevilla will not be able to afford Suso.
I suspect there will be interest from other clubs in La Liga though, Suso does seem to enjoy it there maybe Valencia or Athletico, I think we will want him back though. He has done well at a club in a relegation battle and we need the extra numbers if we are to get top 4 again next year and progress to the knockout stages in the champions league (and barring any ridiculous collapse we should finish top 4) as well as play in the cups.
Last week agger was leaving before that papers were saying we wanted new keeper now suso its just stirring up bull ...alberto will come good he is a top young talent and thats the price you pay suso will return next year or year after what ever happens lfc will benifit
ReplyDeletenever understood the logic of lending out susso, assaidi and borina and then wasting money to replace them with alberto and aspas and getting moses on loan.none of them bring anymore to the club than the players we already had and cost us approximately £15 million which could have been spent much more wisely.
ReplyDeleteSpot on. I find it amazing that so few fans seem to grasp this obvious reality. LFC could've kept Borini, Assaidi and Suso and saved £15m and/or spent that money on another player. Moses, Aspas and Alberto have made absolutely no difference whatsoever, and it's probable that Suso and Borini would've made more of an impact.
ReplyDeleteHe looks a good player and would be sad to see him go but won't be the end of the world. (Don't quote me on that if in 5 years time he's worth 30mil)
ReplyDeleteIf it is true then it could be part of a deal to bring rakitic to anfield. I'd take that
ReplyDeleteYes you're right of course but with the benefit of 20/20 hindsight.
ReplyDeleteBR might have thought that the first three needed further development and the other three could and should make a more immediate impact. As it happens he was wrong but to be fair this season he has got more right than wrong.
Not going to happen, not when Sevilla need cash. Player exchanges very rarely happen. I assume because of their financial position and Rakitics' performances he will have plenty of suitors come summer, Sevilla will go for the largest cash sum.
ReplyDeleteUnless Sevilla come into a decent amount of money I can't see them going for Suso but I do think an offer from La Liga will come in from a club in a better financial position.
off topic 5 lfc in England team to start and agger for the danes jeezzzzzz this is not good with our squad so thin on the ground hope they all come throught it alright. not happy!!
ReplyDeleteWe're clearly in the market for another attacking midfielder in the Summer, which will push Suso further down the pecking order. I doubt he'd even make the bench next season, so it's probably best for all involved. I wish him well. YNWA
ReplyDeleteAt least we don't play at the weekend :)
ReplyDeleteStop harping shite the team is doing fine without these loan players. neither of them are going to take countino's place anyway
ReplyDeleteSay what you mean ......oh and bye!
ReplyDeletewrong. borini, assaidi, and suso are getting way more playing time at there respective loan clubs and gaining invaluable experience that they more than likely would have never been able to get here. the only people that haven't been able to truly hold down a spot all year has been defence and that is mostly due to injuries. Suso maybe could have been brought in something with the coutinho hit/miss form and injuries. but doubtful. if you cannot see the layout was to gain these guys experience and bring in like for like and not miss anything, then your really not paying attention. the only player we really took a hit on is aspas, due to his age. wouldn't be surprised to see suso or alberto go on loan next season to gain experience.
ReplyDeletegame time is a greater learning experience than anything.
We're playing pretty well against Denmark tonight so far. But why are we playing down in London, and wearing Spurs' kit? Was never like this when I were a lad.
ReplyDeleteNice One ........fingers crossed NO INJURIES !
ReplyDeleteHe is doing well in Spain but as he said, "the football in Spain is a little bit slower than here" so can he produce the same result in the EPL? From what I have read, Suso is playing on the right wing for Granada. With Sterling passing with flying colours this season and Couthino being a regular fixture in the starting eleven would have seen Suso struggle to get playing time.
ReplyDeleteSo If the story is true then the reason for Suso leaving would be because he knows he will not get regular football at Anfield.
Its a shame because i am a fan of Suso but saying that after him having a season of first team football shouldnt we be looking for a fee like albertos?
ReplyDeleteI would assume so but think we will be lucky to get half of that for him.
.....Brad Jones be crazy yo
ReplyDeleteI think it's healthy for a squad to have people coming and going. Keeps things fresh and opens doors for players which is a good thing.
ReplyDeleteKnow what your saying but I think if we offered something in the region if 20-25 mil plus a promising replacement in suso they might be tempted
ReplyDeleteGood old Danny Boy - Raheem MOM :-)
ReplyDeleterakitic (spelling?) for suso with cash please.
ReplyDeleteTo me the telling comment is Suso's: 'The football in Spain is a little bit slower than here, so for me it's better.' If that's the way he is thinking, then he needs to go. That's as much as saying he knows he can't cut it in the PL. Why prolong the inevitable? Get what we can for him and don't look back.
ReplyDeleteLiverpool need to keep him next season regardless if he want's to leave of not. I would rather give him some game time in the last year of his contract and try and persuade him to stay longer (if he's good enough). Let him off in the summer for free if he's still not convinced, instead of getting 3 million or whatever the club would get for him right now.
ReplyDeleteDepending on which version of Suso quotes you find from an article in AS he seems to clearly state that he would like to extend his Liverpool contract and then stay another year at Almeria. Liverpool clearly want him to stay but are happy for him to be on loan to a La Liga club. This story is an interesting one but there isn't much substance to it, it could be simply made up. I'm always suspicious when the newspaper claims that the player has told "friends of his intentions". It's a sensible enough scenario, if the player has admirers in Sevilla and they are promising him first team football then it's a good move for him. But he could also sign an extension with Liverpool, stay another year at Almeria and come back to Anfield with two full years of La Liga experience under his belt. That would be great for the club and still quite good for the player.
ReplyDeleteAs for the situation at Liverpool ... I still don't agree. All that has happened is that we've ended up with lots of young, talented players, either training with the first team or on loan. None of them are really good enough to make an impact yet and JK clearly agrees with this. While money spent may be a concern I don't really see how having lots of young potential in and around the team is a problem. No, they are not playing in the first team or having an impact but the truth is that we don't need them to. What we need them to do is improve and prove themselves. If they do, great, they'll get a first team chance. If they don't then of course it's disappointing but the reality is that very few young players become first team regulars. It's a bit of a lottery sometimes, and for me it makes complete sense to have as many of those potential talents in your team as possible. You give them every chance to prove themselves and eventually one of them does, like Sterling or Flanagan. Unfortunately this ends up being the exception but surely the best plan is to have more youngsters around and thus more chance that one of them will come good? Isn't that how it's always worked in football?
I'll be an astronaut before anyone pays 30mil for him
ReplyDeleteI think Tex will prove himself. I think Ibe will prove himself. I'm convinced Suso has made his decision.
ReplyDeleteMaybe he was a dick
ReplyDeleteWill LFC's forward progress suffer if he leaves? Of course the answer is no, as he's a player who is not in the squad at the moment. It's like asking if LFC's forward progress would suffer if Messi doesn't come.
ReplyDeleteI think the question should be: would LFC benefit from having him back? And the answer is yes, as he has got great talent and arguably more talent than many at the club.
Yes I agree! I see nothing wrong with buying young players and loaning them out to get some experience. Some will impress and we will bring them back, some will not and we will sell them for at least the same as we paid for them, but most likely at a profit. I agree with Aspas, but still you would like to think we would get 7 mill for him.
ReplyDeleteOn the topic of Suso, please for the love of God don't sell this kid. I really rate him. I see him playing a big part next year and I am a big fan of coutinho, but he doesn't seem to have the stamina to perform week in week out. Going to be major pissed if we sell Suso.
Perfectly said. It's about building for the future. Got to look at long term impact not just short term. Thats the only way for LFC to succeed, we can't compete on a financial basis.
ReplyDeleteI haven't read all the comments here so this may be said already, but one could even take the quote to mean that regardless of qualification to the champions league, it's not certain he would stay if the right offer comes calling. A big money bid would, exponentially increase our transfer kitty. If he succeeds in helping us to get back into the Champions League on top swelling our transfer coffers nobody would probably begrudge him a potential move away.
ReplyDeleteLa Liga is televised here. Suso has operated on both wings as well as through the middle. He got a lot of starts at the beginning of the season, recently he has been coming off the bench.
ReplyDeleteI'd be gutted if Suso left, what's more annoying is that the club would probably sell him for nothing. If Alberto is worth 7M or whatever, Suso is worth double. No club would have paid anything near what we did for Alberto. Makes no sense at all, he's pretty much a Dani Pacheco at ten times the price.
ReplyDeleteSuso reminds me of David Silva. He slotted into the team with ease at the beginning of last season. If Suso and Borini return we can focus on a midfielder and look at fullbacks, that's all. Rodgers signed attackers in January 2013 and again in the summer when there was no need to do so at all.
We purchased Alberto and loaned him out to the subs bench. Yes, Suso out on loan is beneficial for the player, but he would of gotten game time had he stayed at Liverpool. Think of how many times Coutinho has been underwhelming, Suso could of stepped in. There's no bedding in or time to adapt, Suso was in the first team for half a season.
ReplyDeleteAt 7M or something around that, Alberto is not exactly a cheap signing and playing for the reserves is hardly beneficial. We swapped two players around and ended up with the less experienced one who cost 10 times the price. Suso and Shelvey departed and Alberto still cannot make the bench. No one is going to pay us 7M for Aspas or Alberto.
This kid ain't going no where. He's got a future at Liverpool.
ReplyDeleteTake all these attributed quotes with a pinch of salt guys.
ReplyDeleteThere is very little Loyalty in football anymore.
Especially if you weren't born and raised in the city in which you now play.
Do not really follow La Liga, just did a bit of research on the net about Suso's time at Granada.
ReplyDeleteMaybe Suso is better off making a career elsewhere as he will struggle even next season to get a spot in the starting eleven at Anfield.
Who cares what hes says hes still at liverpool after actions speak louded than words
ReplyDeleteI don't really follow it but to my surprise not every game shown is a Barca or Real match. So I've had the chance to watch Suso a bit.
ReplyDeleteI don't think he would struggle that much. If you think he will struggle, how do you think that Allen will prove a lot of people wrong or how do you think Alberto will eventually become a good signing? I'm not picking out things, I'm just trying to make a comparison. I think Suso has a decent chance of establishing himself at the club and as I mentioned in my other post if Suso and Borini return we could focus on priority targets. Coutinho has been underwhelming this season and Sterling is not that consistent. There's room for Suso. IMO we should sign at least one midfielder and have a serious look at our fullbacks as there are question marks regarding Johnson and Kelly, even Enrique, unfortunately.
Sterling has been one of our top performers and Coutinho might not have scored or assisted as much but is still a vital cog in our setup.
ReplyDeleteThere is a very good chance we will go back for Konoplyanka/another winger in the summer so with competition for attacking places being so tight, I highly doubt Suso will even make the bench.
rodgers did a mistake last summer aspas and alberto are not better than suso and assaidi i hope they comeback next season as we may have many competitions inculiding CL aspas and alberto sell them for 12m
ReplyDeleteAgree. If Rodgers becomes impressed enough with Suso in a few years that he wants him on the starting team, and Liverpool continue to grow, I think it's obvious that Suso will choose us over Sevilla.
ReplyDeleteWhy bring up some negativity now? We all know the score. Plus 70mil thought it was 100.
ReplyDeleteAnd maybe it's ultimately up to him. I wouldn't mind at all if Suso decided his future was away from Liverpool. I look at it this way: if Suso is good enough to make an impact for us next year then we'll take him back from Almeria and throw him into the action. If he's not good enough to play for us, but Sevilla think he's good enough to play for them then maybe we just let him go. At the end of the day if the player is not going to improve us then he's not going to improve us, he's not worth fussing over.
ReplyDeleteIts probably Rodgers plan to get the Liverpool squad ready for additional games next season. Borini, Suso and Assaidi-players who Rodgers likes- will come back with a full season of top tier football under their belts instead of making do with a few first team appearances and reserves experience. I'll wait until next season to before I express any frustration.
ReplyDeleteSimple as that is it? Have you had any floods in cloud cuckoo land
ReplyDeleteWebb to referee the Utd game. F***ing great.
ReplyDelete24 goals 11 assists in 23 games great goals some of the best ever scored by a red..just enjoy this great player instead of if he stays he is a deceitfull liar and if he leaves he is the worlds biggest traitor ...DO YOU SUPPORT LFC ? if so try write at least 1 out of 5 with a positive vibe to it .You say you like to put forward a different opinion to normal fans but being negative all the time is just depressing ... Alberto was a bad buy you love that one suarez should go agger is gone i always a negative spin ...we are in 2nd with 10 games left 73 goals liverpool 5 arsenal 1 almost frightening football we will rise to the top again no matter what negative crap is written
ReplyDeleteIt only 'explains' why because that's what you want to believe. Chris, be logical. Who could be on the transfer committee? The possibilities: Rodgers, Ayre, LFC Scouts; LFC coaches. Who else? All of those people are beneath Rodgers in football-related hierarchy. Rodgers himself refused to work under a DoF before signing, and we're supposed to believe he takes orders from his subordinates about transfers? That doesn't make sense. The only logical explanation is that Rodgers makes the decisions, and has final say. The committee make make suggestions; highlight targets etc, but the idea that they go over Rodgers' head is just not credible.
ReplyDeleteWhat if they cast the imperius curse on Rodgers?
ReplyDeleteWhere exactly did he say he "wants out" or it is a "better league"...
ReplyDeleteIn that case Rodgers better get cracking on his Protego Shield Charms.
ReplyDeleteWhat?? Shirley you joke! :(
ReplyDeleteWe seem to be busting all our hoodoos this season 'bout time this one went. How many matches is it....:-)
ReplyDeleteAre they all below him in the pecking order?. If recent reports are to be believed the owners were thinking of replacing him with De Boer. If true,(and iI admit it is a a big IF) where would that idea have come from?
ReplyDeleteIf the right amount of money, an obscene one that, I have no doubts FSG will ship him out on first plane. They will use the money to build the team even better. That's how FSG roll. That's how Liverpool roll. No players are bigger than the club.
ReplyDeleteJK, get off your high horse. You are DULL.
ReplyDeleteI may have misread it, but from my understanding if these reports are true, FSG made an approach to de Boer before employing Rogers. De Boer turned them down, after which FSG went to Rogers.
ReplyDeleteThe versions I have seen say he was offered Tottenham in January and Liverpool last year which fits better with my prejudices. But I still hope yours is right
ReplyDeleteBeat me to it, these players need game time something just like the players we signed haven't had, so going out on loan has given them a platform to improve and come back better players
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't claim to know how or who gets final decision on transfers if it was Rodgers then I am pretty sure he wouldn't hide behind the comment of a transfer committee, Rodgers could say we need a left sided attacker, sure says budget is x, scouts find the best solution for budget x, Rodgers learns about player from scouts, Ayre then fails to conclude deal! I'm just speculating here and pointing out another possibility that's why I believe it's harsh to single out Rodgers for criticism on transfers, remember the transfer committee was created because borini and Allan were judged as failures
ReplyDeleteMakeweight and paperweight for the Rakitic contract,I hope.
ReplyDeleteAll day long.
ReplyDeleteWhere would you be able to find out such information this far in advance? I've been looking for confirmation... couldn't find it.
ReplyDeleteLucky them
ReplyDelete
