Amazing: Is this the 'huge mistake' that could win the title for Liverpool FC...?

The twists in this exciting season just keep on coming! Crystal Palace have beaten Chelsea 1-0 in the Premier League this afternoon, and if Arsenal can beat Man City this evening, it will put Liverpool firmly in the driving seat in the race for the title.

Palace's 1-0 victory is Chelsea's second away defeat in a row, which is a major contrast to Liverpool, who - with three victories in a row - are in the midst of an amazing run of away form.

Having watched most of the game, Palace put in a fantastic performance, especially in the second half, where they continued to attack Chelsea despite being one goal ahead, and created a string of great chances to double their lead.

The defeat leaves Chelsea just one point ahead of Liverpool, and an win against Spurs tomorrow will take the Reds two points clear at the top of the table :-)

As the commentator declared at the final whistle:

"Is this the moment Chelsea let the title slip through their fingers. One huge mistake that could cost them everything"

Poor John Terry. Couldn't have happened to a nicer fella ;-)

John Aldridge's:

"It seems the Chelsea manager's forecast of Man City being favourites [or the title] was right after all. I thought he was just trying to be a smart arse!"

Michael Owen:

"If Man City win today they will be hard to peg back. If they don't, it will be a dream day for Liverpool fans and the title race is on!!!"

On a related note: Chelsea's defeat also means that if Liverpool draw tomorrow's game, it won't be the end of the world. Of course, I, like all fans, hope for an emphatic victory.

  1. Wow! Stunning result. I just hope our guys don't lose their heads tomorrow with anticipation. There is a warning here. This is what happens when a team is grinded down because they're tired from so many matches. We don't have as many matches, but we also don't have the bench depth that Chelski has so our first eleven play a lot of matches just like Chelski. Just hoping and praying the injuries don't come in this final stretch.

  2. You are joking aren't you Jaime ...... Terry sucks Big Time !
Well done Palace - We r Going To Win the league :-)

  3. If Arsenal win then it really is game on for Liverpool, a draw would be ok too!!!

  4. We had a warning late on v Sunderland, hopefully it's a lesson to the players!!!

  5. Good that the referee did n't give Palace two obvious penalties. It would have given the bigmouth opportunity to mourn over how he is being targeted and teams like LFC are favoured by the referees.

  6. Can't really decide who I want to win the Gunner/City match. If the gunners win that helps our chances for the league title. However it also puts them closer to us in the CL qualifications. My heart would love to win the title, but my head tells me ensuring at least 3rd to avoid CL qualifying round or avoiding the unlikely but still possible ManU CL title which would knock the #4 team out is way more important this year. I guess a draw would be the best possible result.

  7. Yeah after Everton Arsenal has five comfy games..So Draw is best for us

  11. As Brendan has said all along and also Pelligrini just reiterated lets not get distracted by other teams and results but focus on our matches one at a time ...... tighten up at the back especially on set pieces ( our Achilles heal ) and the long wait will be over YNWA

  12. Through all the BS that Mourinho usually spouts, he does often talk a lot of sense. This is an opportunity which we simply may not have again. Amazing turn of events.

  13. This is what BR has been saying all along we concentrate on our next game and get the desired results ,and not worry too much about other teams and as we can go as high as we can imagine. Now we can get our voices even louder and lift the team wherever we are ,because we are in for a real chance.Cheers

  15. Another 5-0 thrashing of Spurs tomorrow will be the cherry on top. Winning tomorrow will put us in the driving seat with Chelsea and City still to visit Anfield. Bring it on!

  16. We really got away with it on Wednesday but that's what winning the title is all about. We squeeze a win against Sunderland where our competitors lose a similar match to Crystal Palace. I said this could happen weeks ago when everyone was convinced we would be dropping points along the way totally disregarding that so could our nearest rivals. Right now Arsenal are on a draw with Citeh which basically means it's all in our own hands now. It's going to be exciting and we may still end up empty handed but just the simple fact that we can actually win the title is just brilliant in its own right. Now go on and beat the Spurs. There is no reason why we can't do it!

  17. Plenty of twists and turns to come I'm sure -- if we make it I won't forget that you predicted we'd win it at Christmas ; ) Now come on the Arsenal!

  18. On the 30th march 1964 Liverpool beat spurs 3-1 to go top off the league and went on to win it! Is it an omen

    ReplyDelete
  19. Well there you have it...a draw.

    ReplyDelete
  20. So Arsenal have drawn with City, meaning results couldn't have gone any better for us this weekend. Tomorrow is going to be a nail biter.

  21. Arsenal actually showed up. Its in our boys hands now! Will we make it mathematically impossible for united tmr?

  22. This was also Shankly's first title win and the Hunt/St John 52 goals between them season.

    ReplyDelete
  23. MAN CITY DRAW!!! Stars are lining up boys....
    MAKE US DREAM, YNWA

    ReplyDelete
  24. That'll be that, then. No more ifs, no more buts. It's plain and simple now: Win all our remaining fixtures and we win the league.
One game at a time, as Brendan has stated all along, don't get carried away. Whisper it, though and believe.

  25. LFC also beat Man Utd 1-0 and 3-0 that season, and also put five past Arsenal...

    ReplyDelete
  26. Llets start to dream again boys!! YNWA!

  27. Who wld have thunk it .... great day for us ! What better motivation to thrash Spurs tomorrow and go top ! It's all in our hands now lads . Let's go and do it !

  28. Spooky stuff, indeed.

For me, the biggest thing, apsrt from winning the title, would be for us to score 96 goals.
Pity the season didn't finish a day early, though: that would be 25 days after the anniversary.

  29. Its ours to lose it now, just win all the games and the title is back at anfield. I know it wont be easy at all but this is a bloody massive chance, lads must take it, for Stieve, he deserves it.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Who would have what????

    ReplyDelete
  31. Lmfao, it was a good goal too, thank you John Terry.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Proven track record??
What did you think of us signing Andy Carroll?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Even to say that with 7 games to go the title is in our hands is a remarkable thing. Of course we have to beat our main two contenders to do it but that's how you win the league: by beating the best. I personally would have been happier if it was a Frank Lampard deflection, but JT is almost as good.

Beat Spurs and we're top again ... I can barely believe it.

  34. Your wish is granted! Big ask to win all our remaining ties but it's nice to have matters in our own hands. City must still be big favourites for the title but who would have imagined we would be in with a shout at the end of March? Never experienced such a nerve jangling 20 minutes or so as that against Sunderland. They played well from start to finish and must be given credit for that. Hope they can maintain that form against our opponents.

  35. Fantastic results so far. Everyone expected City to get the 3, they didn't, meaning that now Liverpool can win the title if they win all their remaining games. Chelsea...well...who saw that coming. By the same token, drawing/losing to a shit team is quite common after you belt another team the game before...

  36. Kovacic is one of the best, if not the best, midfielders under 20 years of age in the world - I'm talking pure talent, not goals/assists. His stats aren't that impressive for Inter sure, but he has actually spent most of his time in the 'regista' role, similar to what Gerrard does for us, and Gerrard gets the large portion of his goals and assists from set pieces. Also, 17 of Kovacic's appearances for Inter this season have been from the bench close to the end of the game.

This kid has an unbelievable engine, great talent, and a superb range of passing. If we don't get him and someone else does we'll be very sorry in the long run...at 8mil he's a still, but Inter paid 10mil for him so I doubt they'd settle for 8. I'd be perfectly happy with a fee up to 15 for this kid, you read it here first he is the next big thing.

  37. what happened to the Derby blonde wonder???? Transfer speculation is rife let's see what actually eventuates.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I was more surprised by how well Palace played today. As talented as Chelsea are, and while they are simply more talented than Palace, they didn't play poorly in the roughly 35 minutes of the game I watched. Palace simply played well... and the game may have been dramatically different if Lee Mason gave one of the penalties for Cahill's tackles in the box.

I would have to say I was more impressed with Palace today than I was unimpressed with Chelsea.

  39. Palace away is no easy fixture. It's actually our last game of the campaign, let's hope there's no Skrtel own goal haha ;)

  40. As we saw with City a few years ago, it's ain't over till it's over! Still a long way to go.

    ReplyDelete
  41. The money he will recoup on these will be ok compared to the losses incured on the Carroll Aquilani and Keane deals.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Annoys me how people say City pinched it from Utd. It was theirs to lose in the first place, and they almost f**ked it up.

    ReplyDelete
  43. By theory, the title is in our hands. Well, we're sharing that destiny with City. Ignoring all of the possible twists and turns, if we win all of our remaining games, it's coming home to Anfield.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I can't believe how well your prediction is going at the moment. Everyone including me thought you were absolutely mad.

    ReplyDelete
  45. With the City and Arsenal draw its up to us now. Lets turn our 7 game winning streak into a 14 game one and go home with the title.

    ReplyDelete
  46. No, JK wasn't joking, that's why after putting that it couldn't happen to a nicer fella, he put in the wink smilie, he was being sarcastic.

    ReplyDelete
  47. It's funny, defending set pieces has been our Achilles heel and yet we have scored the most goals of any team this season from set pieces, a little bit of irony there.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Kovacevic would be a top acquisition at the price will certainly add something i really rate this player and if BR does thats good enough for me.

    ReplyDelete
  49. kovacic is number 10 too. kovacic has bigger upside than coutinho, actually he is already way better player. believe me, i know. if i'd compare him with some player, that'd be laudrup. the thing is that inter's coach is an idiot. as simple as that.

  51. as an inter fan, who really likes kovacic, atm even more than inter because of stupid organisation, i can tell lfc and fans if you don't buy this kid (if this is actually possible because this could be one of the biggest bargain transfers in history of football) you'll feel really really bad in the future. guy's gonna be the best midfielder in about 3-4 years. dribblings skills and acceleration are out of this world. he just has to shoot more.

  52. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u1YGSCPy4hs in national team along world class rakitic and modric he is outshining them non-stop.

  53. in nt he is always outshining likes of world class midfielders like modric and rakitic. just check him against iceland (especially this one) and switzerland.
