Liverpool are reportedly considering a summer move for Sevilla defender Alberto Moreno, and according to his agent, a the Spanish club are willing to let the coveted left-back leave during the upcoming transfer window.
According to reports this week:
* LFC are long-term admirers of Moreno, described as one of Spain's 'brightest prospects'.
* Reds boss Brendan Rodgers apparently believes that Moreno 'fits the Anfield profile perfectly'.
* LFC are prepared to pay £15m to outbid Real Madrid, who are also interested.
Speaking to reporters on Monday, Moreno's agent, Javier Moya, confirmed Real Madrid's interest, and also revealed that Sevilla rejected a bid from Rafa Benitez's Napoli as it 'wasn't high enough'. He added:
“Nothing is done [with Real Madrid]. Sevilla are willing to negotiate, but on their terms. However, that’s not to say that he [Moreno] will leave for the full €30 million release clause.”
Of course he won't leave for €30m - no club is going to pay that amount of money for a player with only only 1.5 seasons worth of experience at the top level...unless, of course, you're LFC, who paid £35m for Andy Carroll, who had only 6 months premier League experience. But I digress...
Some info about Moreno:
* 45 apps for Sevilla
* 3 goals/3 assists.
* 2 apps for the Spain national team.
* 2013: Helped Spain win the U21 European Championship.
* Passing accuracy: 78%
* Duels won: 45%
* Chances created: 16
* Defensive errors: 2
When asked about Moreno's potential in November, Valencia boss Unai Emery told Estadio Deportivo:
"Alberto is 21 years old, and he is an excellent prospect. He came into the team very quickly, and we have to control expectations, and make sure he retains humility. I am very happy with his performances".
Moreno is also a target for Manchester United, but after the horror show at Old Trafford this season, I doubt the youngster would seriously consider a move to the Premier League's biggest sinking ship.
In light of the fact Southampton want £25 for Luke Shaw, £15m for Moreno makes more financial sense. Plus, if Rafa Benitez wants the youngster, then it's a fairly reliable indicator that he's a decent play.
Worth a bid?

Oh cause benitez is such a genius in the transfer market you dumbass
ReplyDeleteoh god...
ReplyDeleteNever really seen a lot of him but his duel won percentage doesn't really give me confidence
although i agree that just because Benitez want him doesn't mean he's that good, a bit of respect would be great...
ReplyDeleteDid is just see what I thought I did ? " if Benitez wants the youngster , ...he's a decent signing" what the f**k ? Benitez sold and bought aquiline you remember right ? wow how do people think he's a good manager is beyond me , Stevie g dug hike out of a hole and idioms like you treat him like a great manager.Just look at inter Milan and tell me he is a good manager
ReplyDeleteOn a more relevant note he does seem a decent player DESPITE Benitez interest , should be good next season with him and Enrique fighting it out for the LB position
ReplyDeleteBenitez bought some top players too, and in his eye for young players improved as the years went by. For example, nn his last year at LFC, he signed Suso, Sterling, and Shelvey.
ReplyDeleteon another subject, did anyone see the MManu game against Olympiacos.
ReplyDeleteI am a scouse liverpool supporter and I admit extremely biased in my views on manu, but I thought that some of the Olympiacos players,, played like they had a huge bet on Manu, I thought they played like Sunday League players.
Maybe its just me, i am so biased, did anyone else agree with me?
He's 5'7" tall and weighs 143lbs...this doesn't even pass a basic sanity check. Pass.
ReplyDeleteTHAT HEADLINE SUMS YOUR JOURNALISM UP PERFECTLY
ReplyDelete"SIGN 30M STAR FOR 15M"
HOW IS HE A 30M STAR IF HE CAN BE BOUGHT FOR 15M
ITS JUST YOUR LYING ATTENTION SEEKING HEADLINES AGAIN WITH ZERO PROOF OR SUBSTANCE
I SOOO HAATE YOU AND YOUR LIES
I'm all for this fullback. He's been having one hell of a season at Wolfsburg and rated as the best performing fullback in bundesliga currently. Arguably, he would be in favour of FSG's transfer policy since he's young (21) and would be cost competitive (Bundesliga & non-english) and assuming we can offer him CL football.
ReplyDeleteHas all the qualities of a modern fullback.
1) Dribbling/bombing forward
2) Crossing/end product
3) Solid defensively
4) Good at set-pieces (backup for SG?)

Did you just say pass to Moreno? He's one of the 3 top LB prospects in the world, along with Ricardo Rodriguez and Luke Shaw (of course Alaba is like the same age but I'd say he's more than a prospect now...) He is in the perfect mold of a player for liverpool too, and much cheaper than Shaw, and less attention grabbing than Rodriguez (though I do admit he might be a better buy. And besides, height and weight hardly is a factor for wingers and full backs. For combative mids or CBs sure, but Full backs utilize their positioning and tackle timing more than brute strength and aerial ability. I mean further up the pitch, look at Shaqiri. The kid is ripped, yet is probably as tall as Allen...
ReplyDeleteI meant that height and weight is hardly a major deciding factor. Of course it is a factor, but a decision to buy a player shouldn't rest on that.
