Strike Chaos: Fulham confirm Liverpool game could be 'postponed'. Good for LFC...?

Liverpool's Premier League game with Fulham on Wednesday is in danger of being postponed due to the proposed tube strike taking place on the same day.

A statement posted on Fulham's website today confirms that, right now, the game is set to go ahead, but indicates that postponement is a definite possibility:

"If the proposed action is still undetermined at 3pm tomorrow (Tuesday), and the Club cannot guarantee enough staff are available...the fixture would be postponed"

Fulham will release a further statement tomorrow at 3PM with the final decision about the game.

If the game is cancelled, fans will inevitably be disappointed, but rescheduling the game may not be such a bad decision:

* Gives the likes of Gerrard, Sturridge et al more recovery time.
* LFC will probably have a stronger squad when the game is rescheduled.
* The Reds have three games this week, so it reduces the chance of injuries/fatigue.
* The club could avoid another big-match hangover (i.e like Villa/West Brom)

I lived in London for 8 years, and Tube strikes are an absolute nightmare. I was also in London during the last one-day strike on February 4th, and as usual, everything descended into chaos.

With LFC's squad filled with injured players, an extra few days of recovery time could make all the difference.

  1. I agree, could be a good thing if it's postponed

  2. Strike or no strike, Fulham are going down the tubes!
Excuses, excuses, they're scared! Probably would try and call it off for leaves on the railes too!
Either way, probably not a bad thing, but I was hoping for some midweek entertainment.

  3. This would suit us nicely, I think. I should imagine we'd be more tired than Fulham, since they mainly just set up and headed stuff out of the box. Then again, we only had about 20 mins of competitive football before the job was done.
Either way, we should beat them.

  4. Arsenal v United is at the same time I think, so at least we'll be able to watch that.
There isn't really a bad result for us in that game. Arsenal lose, we're closer to them. United lose, it is funny and they're completely out of the top 4 race. They draw, best of both worlds, I think.

The only negative thing I can imagine about this is that it may cause some points table pressure for Liverpool,as Spurs if they win there match will be level on points with us,and consequently all other teams(Everton and Utd) will get nearer.Yes I know we will have a game in hand, but you know the itchy feeling when its so close.

  6. Fulham are pulling a fast one here. I used to work in Fulham and it has a good transport network of buses as well as the London Underground. They ran themselves ragged defending like the clappers against Man U and want more rest because we will rip into them with their tired legs.

I live just a 10 minute drive from Wraysbury where people are genuinely struggling against the elements to go about their daily lives and for Fulham to plead for a postponement is a disgrace in the circumstances. If they postpone the match then the points should be awarded to Liverpool, end of.

  7. Why should Fulham match be off and not the Arsenal one ?

  8. This is a move being pulled by fulham as there are two over ground railway stations less than fifteen minutes walk from the ground.Went to a game there a few years back, never forget that match as it was on halloween and it turned into a proper horror show,we had a few players sent off and we went down 3-1 after taking the lead.As someone who takes in a few away games this is a nightmare scenario, because people will have flights and hotels booked. If Arsenal are able to staff their ground safely(which is much bigger than the cottage)then Fulham should be able to do the same!

  9. would be nice to be heading into the final days of the season with a game at hand. if recall man united always had a game at hand at the end of the season just in case.

  11. are you serious??? for crying out loud we're in fantastic form,, are playing Fulham at home who have very tired legs after the match at old Trafford at the weekend and we'll have an extra day to recover due to playing our match on Saturday and theirs on sunday, not to mention if we win and arsenal either win or draw we could be a massive 11-12 points ahead of untied and in my opinion that would be too much for them to pull it back,, there is no guarantee if we play them again that we will have no injuries to our top players,, play them now, strike while the iron is hot,, they are only trying to postpone as they are knackered after sundays match and worried about Liverpool who are in redhot form being too much for them,,

  12. I dunno. Seems like they should both be off, but I've heard nothing about the Arsenal game being cancelled and quite a bit about our game.

  15. 25000 capacity and the games at risk because the tubes off!! There wasn't even a proper road to the Ataturk and 40000 of us got there!! Fulham don't want to play us after their exertions on Sunday, hence are playing the health and safety card!

  16. I can see both sides of argument, but agree that Fulham are probably shattered. Get the effing bus

Unless we got it rescheduled to when they are already relegated..... That would be better
