Much-maligned Liverpool striker Iago Aspas scored his first goal for the club today in this afternoon's FA Cup clash with Oldham at Anfield.
Despite only signing for the club last summer, rumours persist that Aspas could be on his way back to Spain during the January transfer window.
Perhaps this goal might herald the start of a more productive creative spell for the Spaniard?
Here is Aspas' excellent volleyed finish:

I doubt this goal will make difference to Aspas' Anfield fate, though. I'm a great believer in always starting goalscorers in the next game (to maintain momentum/confidence etc), but he will almost certainly back on the bench for the next Premier League game.

nice goal by iago, but sterling´s delivery was even better :)
ReplyDeletethanks for the video couldnt find no stream
ReplyDeleteAgger again injured? Shit...
ReplyDeleteThis is a dilemma. He needs games to do better like what games did to Sterling. He's not going to get these games because of how good Suarez is. With Sturridge coming back, he will be pushed further down. Hopefully he does good in training and impresses BR. Having seen him in various games, he lacks confidence and always gets caught in possession.
ReplyDeleteThere is talk that Sturridge will be on the bench against Stoke and I think the best way to go would be to line up as if Sturridge was going to start, but with Aspas in his place. This way, if we need Sturridge any sub won't require a total tactical rethink. Sterling on the right, Countinho left and Hendo and Lucas in the middle.
ReplyDeleteI don't think Rodgers will do this though. I don't think he'd be able to resist having Gerrard in the side and unless he reverts to Hendo on the right, we'll be too exposed with Hendo and Gerrard in the middle of a 4-4-2.

Let's hope there are now more injuries...
ReplyDeleteBig age difference between aspas and sterling. At aspas age, you should be ready to come in and impress after a few games, maybe 2 months, since he should be at the peak of his career and abilities.
ReplyDeleteWell Aspas did great with the ball. He had the composure to get over the top of it and ensure it would stay level or go low. How many of those have we seen go arcing harmlessly over the bar?
ReplyDeleteBR said that but from what I was hearing, we were creating a lot of chances but they were being squandered. I can't recall how many times I heard the words 'scuffed' and 'wide' used but it was a bunch.
ReplyDeleteYep, that's right. Lots of chances created, but poor finishing. Why should Alberto take the blame for that? Even Suarez misses chances.
ReplyDeleteHardly a stunning goal, just a nice finish. Still I think he has to leave, just watched his interview afterwards spoke like 4-5 words and I could tell he lost the confidence already, obviously he knows hes getting straight back on subs next week so why staying here, killing your career? Hes simply not good enough, thats the harsh reality so I would suggest him to find a smaller club where he can play regularly there and prove himself, lfc also throwing money on his wages so its a damage in both ends. About the game, I didnt watch a second of it, it was a shame, no steams at all just audio TF?! But very disappointed again not to see ilori getting some mins guess his first team hopes are finished now, if he cant get a game vs oldham, what do you expect further? Same for texeira but wont mention him from now on, br doesnt even put him on bench which is tragic. Aggers injured, I guess br knew why he bought so many defenders!! 2-0 vs league two bottom team, certainly not good enough, but who cares, we through, and mancs lost so day made.
ReplyDeleteYeahhhhhh...I'm with Kresh. It wasn't really spectacular. Just a lovely finish.
ReplyDeleteI think it was just an unfortunate set of circumstances. Like I said in the previous thread, I think BR felt like this was a must win game and he could feel it slipping away. He didn't want to bring Suarez in but something had to be done. He needed some tempo and some urgency so he went with Coutinho. Since it was Sterling who assisted Aspas, we'll never know if Alberto could have been the man in the second half. However, BR had to win the game and he didn't feel like it was going to happen with the existing line-up and he had to make a decision...he made it. I think Alberto will get his chances again and he'll perform better. I fall on BR's side for this decision.
