I want Anfield: £7m star admits he'd be 'very happy' to sign for LFC. Pursue...?

Last week, multiple reports claimed that Liverpool planned to make a bid for Udinese defensive midfielder Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu, who is also being watched by Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal, and it appears that the Reds have a considerable upper hand when it comes to completing the transfer.

Liverpool's European scouts have reportedly personally recommended' Badu to Rodgers.

The player's reps have also 'informed, LFC that he wants a move to the Premier League, and a bid of around £7m is mooted.

When asked yesterday about Liverpool's interest, Badu made it clear that he'd love a move to Anfield. He told Goal.com:

"It has always been my dream to play in England. We played against Liverpool in the Europa League last year so I know all about them. I would be very happy to join them. The chance to play for such a big club is something I couldn’t pass up."

Some info about Badu:

* Can play in midfield or defence, and that versatility is almost certainly an attraction for Rodgers, who seems to be obsessed with players who can operate in several different positions.

* 2011: Voted Ghana’s best player in Italy.

* 2012: Nominated for FIFA goal of the year award for his strike against Guinea in the 2012 African Nations Cup.

* 2012: Shortlisted for the Puskas Goal of the Year Award, alongside Newymar, Falcao, Lionel Messi and several others. Responding to the nomination, Badu enthused:

"I was not expecting it and it came to me by surprise. I'm happy and privileged to be nominated among all these big names like Messi, Falcao and Neymar and others"

* 2012: Nominated for the African Player of the Year award by the Ghana Football Association, and praised by the GFA Chief as 'outstanding'.

* Has some lofty career ambitions, and he revealed in a recent interview:

"I want to be remembered as a player who won the African [player of the year], the European [footballer of the year], or a Champions League medal. I know it is a long road but I’m ready to make the dream come to reality."

* 7 goals in 41 appearances for Ghana so far.

Reds fans have repeatedly called for Brendan Rodgers to sign a tough, physically imposing central midfielder, but Badu is the same height as Sterling and Coutinho, so is he the right choice for the role? In my view, if Liverpool are to sign a defensive midfielder, it should be a big, strong unit, not another small(ish) player who can be muscled off the ball.

Having said that, Mascherano isn't the biggest player, and he did a good job as a defensive midfielder for LFC, so perhaps it's isn't really an issue...?

  1. How about Schneiderlin and Lallana given this apparent "exodus"? (think its a bit of an over exaggeration) but if it is going down; we should definitely pursue them.

  2. If you look at all the pass top CDM like Makelele and Edgar Davids they all consider short player but real tough I think we can give him a chance to prove himself beside competition is good for Lucas so he will get the motivation be better

  3. Liverpool have to get quality signings especially for the defend and midfield part. I would personally recommend quality midfielders like Daniel Parejo from Velencia or maybe Joao Moutinho from Monaco. We need to pay the price for quality.

  6. Fernando, Jorginho, there is quality out there for cheap prices like Sturridge and Coutinho the club just has to not be scared and go through with it. we can match Napoli's bid and get Jorginho off them. even if not, we can get Fernando for £5M. apparently they want £15M for Salah but IMO its the same price as Joe Allen. Rafael Is up for sale in the summer and he can replace GJ if LFC are really up for it. i just wish we could sign some real quality and nick a few suprises

  7. Salah is still with Basel. We are not the only club interested in signing him so clearly their are stumbling blocks for each and every club that have made moves for Salah.

Even a player like Schneiderlin would be difficult to get.

Jorginho is still young and highly doubt he will be making an instant impact especially if he comes to the EPL.

  8. Lallana looks great this season, is a bit of a punt, we have been stung by one season wonders before and had a couple of near misses. But he could be a punt worth taking.

  9. Don't necessarily agree that small stature means easy to push off the ball. A low center of gravity and some upper body strength along with some determination can make a great defensive mid. But to have someone like Viera or Toure in the team would be the ideal. Watching Toure last week was a joy. The way he uses his frame to protect the ball under pressure is outstanding, makes it look effortless. If we could find someone with the same stature and half the skill we would be on a winner.

  11. Matic went for 25 mill!!! Should have offered 30 and we would have gotten excatly what we need to challenge for the title and secure top 4. Him and Salah would be quite enough, since we do not need a lb, at least till summer. Damn, it gets worse as he went to competition. And they already have likes of Lampard, Ramires and the butcher happy to sit on the bench..
