Done Deal: Ruthless Rodgers dumps struggling £11m LFC star. Never to return...?

Liverpool striker Fabio Borini has endured a torrid time at Anfield since his £11m transfer last summer, and according to reports today, the Italian striker is off to Sunderland in a bid to resurrect his Premier League career.

According to The Mirror:

"Fabio Borini is wanted by Sunderland...and will be allowed to move on loan to recapture his form.

"Sunderland boss Paolo Di Canio...hopes to speak to his fellow countryman on Sunday".

BEin Sport journalist Matteo Bonetti claims the deal is already done. This afternoon, he tweeted:

 photo ScreenShot2013-09-01at161721_zps2a867ede.png

With Victor Moses now signed, and another winger possibly coming in, it's hard to see where Borini fits in. As such, it's a good move for the striker, and with fellow Italian Paolo DiCanio at Sunderland, he's sure to get lots of first team action.

It's interesting to note the symmetry here with regards to fairly expensive players going on loan after only a year: Victor Moses signed for Chelsea in a £10m deal last summer, and he's now at Liverpool. Borini cost LFC £11m last summer, and he's now gone on loan to Sunderland.

In February, I posted an article arguing that Borini is destined to fail at Anfield, and that certainly appears to be the case right now. I recently conducted a poll on the site asking if Liverpool should keep or sell the Italian striker.

* Approx 8200 site vistors voted.
* 65% of participants voted for LFC to sell Borini.

That's a fairly emphatic result, and there's no escaping the fact that Brendan Rodgers wasted £11m on Borini last summer. It's harsh on the Italian, though - he suffered an injury-hit debut season at Anfield, and the stop-start nature of his first year meant that he couldn't build up any real momentum.

To add insult to injury, Rodgers persistently played Borini out of position. He is not a wide player (!) and to date, he has played only 63 minutes in his preferred position of central striker.

Will Borini return next summer, or is this the end of his short-lived Liverpool career...?

  1. He's a far better player than what we've seen. Too young to really judge yet, this is the right year for him to go away and improve. He needs time and confidence. Still be up to him to be good enough to challenge at Liverpool when the loan spell is up. Not sure what BR was thinking when he signed him, what kind of impact he thought he might have. Asking a young player to play wide like that so early in your transition to a new club in a new league seems like too much. I think Borini will do well for Sunderland if he gets a starting role. He'll score goals for sure, it's just a matter of time.

  2. He going out on loan to get his confidence back, he won't get it back while sitting on the bench will he no? best for both party's. this might mean anther striker coming into liverpool :-)

    ReplyDelete
  3. borini was never going to make an impact and to pay that amount for him was ludicrous. saying that, every transfer is a gamble and this is one that hasn't paid off.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Good luck to the lad.....let's hope he can get some form together after a tough year.....and BRILLIANT result today.... even if the five minutes of added time took five years off my life!

    ReplyDelete
  5. For some reason, I like the guy, but Sunderland is probably more his level.

    ReplyDelete
  6. if he gets 15 goals for SUFC he will be back

    ReplyDelete
  7. The best option for Borini as well as LFC was to send him out on loan and nothing could be better than this, if he has what it takes then he'll be back next season and if he doesn't then we can let him go out on a transfer.

What I really appreciate about BR now is that he hasn't feared to let his signings go out on loan as they haven't helped him with his aims, I think its a matter of time for Allen too and if he doesn't perform, then we might see him being sold possibly.

    ReplyDelete
  8. the loan will help him he needs game time .....off topic skrtl played very well he is gonna give toure superb competion .......my worry now is that if we are paying 19m for sakho can we really bench him ??? and also will he accept the bench after leave psg for the very same reason and can we bench agger after the way he so excellent kept persie quiet ? ...... imo putting agger in lucas position seems to be the only way to accomodate sakho .....

  9. I can see class in Borini. Hopefully just a temporary.

    ReplyDelete
  10. We definitely need an upgrade in the midfield department. Whilst some may look to Henderson and say that with time a player might blossom, Henderson has all the attributes a midfielder needs: pace, power, technical (without much flair), attitude, height. I just wish from time to time he would put his foot in and tackle.

Allen, unfortunately, doesn't have the physical attributes to dominate in midfield. The fact that neither Gerrard nor Lucas are physically imposing makes this fact even more obvious. It would be a tough decision, but I can't see Allen being the player he was at Swansea, and do think his days are numbered. Particularly if more funds are made available in the winter transfer window.

  11. I thought he'd play a part this season but lets hope he comes back stronger and wiser....

    ReplyDelete
  12. Sunderland United?

    ReplyDelete
  13. When you pay so much for a player, you're compelled to give him games. Only problem is that as long as Agger stays fit, Sakho will be more likely to feature in the cup competitions.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I disagree. Sakho is a first-teamer for LFC. You don't pay £17m for a defender and keep him just for cup competitions. Also, he's leaving PSG because he was stuck on the bench all the time. If Rodgers does the same thing, it will be bad management because it will immediately demotivate Sakho. Agger will probably get rested much more, and share the role with Sakho.

    ReplyDelete
  15. he will score goals give him the chance he is fitter and hungry. it was bordering on negligence (or spite) not playing him in the capitol cup game.

    ReplyDelete
  16. what do you think of agger as defensive mid ?

    ReplyDelete
  17. He could probably do the job, but DM is arguably the most physical role in the team, and given Agger's propensity for injuries, it possibly wouldn't be the best idea. Additionally, effective DMs need to be constantly mobile and moving, and I don't think Agger has that kind of mobility.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Completely agree with the injury part.... however mobility is debatable he loves to keep making those lung busting runs forward........ So I think he could do it......... we really should have started grooming coady already....... Lucas was a very messy today

    ReplyDelete
  19. Not saying that Sakho will only feature in the cup games, but I do think Agger will get the nod more often than not for the league games.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Completely agree with what you've said. But, am not completely sure if Allen will be sold as easily as we're expecting it to be. He can hold on to ball a little extra longer, but then he doesn't have the physicality as you said needed to impose his presence in the game as he isn't like Coutinho making incisive passes that lead to goals. Hoping him(Allen) to make an impact that is very much needed, I know I might be said deluded but I think he has what it takes to be the next Xabi Alonso for us though.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Hopefully he'll do well and come back. Good move for everyone involved IMO

    ReplyDelete
  22. usually the reason comfortable defenders look so good at the back is because they started in midfield but weren't good enough. The defensive midfield role requires techhnical excellence when facing the play, on the half turn or back to goal. Agger is good facing the play but I promise you if he is back to goal with three players closing him down he'll lose it every time. Your 1st and second touch have to be immaculate 95% of the time and like southgate and Carra who were shifted forward one I don't feel it will work.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Fair play to Rodgers. Its his job that is on the line and he seems to be loyal to perfomances ONLY this season. We have seen that with Allens demotion and the loans of Borini and Assaidi all his boys. Thats a message loud and clear to EVERYONE in the squad.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Stevie G not physically imposing?
    He's big and he's f*6kind Hard

    ReplyDelete
  25. BR stated last week he wasn't going send him out on loan ,what's changed his mind ?
    Moses coming in maybe ?
Without Europe we won't be playing as many games but how many senior strikers do we actually have ?Suarez and sturidge,is aspas an actual striker ?
,if we get injuries or lose form or get tired who do we have on the subs bench?
I'm not so sure about borini anyway but given time he might come good
Not so sure about Allen £15m was a lot in my opinion ,but it looks as though BR has a ruthless streak which he will need if we want to progress

    ReplyDelete
  26. Seen a lot of posts from anti Rodgers people saying he would never drop his favourites or his signings.
Well, £15m Allen was dropped, now £11m Borini loaned out. Rodgers ids focussed on one thing: winning.
All gone quiet re FSG not spending too......
One more day and the posts saying Suarez would be sold if we bought anyone will be shown up for what they are

    ReplyDelete
  27. When I saw " Sunderland have signed Liverpool striker 21m" I almost did a summersault. note to self.... it means minutes.

    ReplyDelete
  28. He is going on loan to try and rekindle a little form, STOP being a feking negative poster and think of these move as a positive, such as the "Robinson" post and many many more that i could mention. "WE" have just beat the Scum 1-0 FFS get on board!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Geeze, tell me a about it, i couldn't move from my seat i was transfixed!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Moses on loan for the year, cost us 1 mil and we will pay his wadges, there is NO option to buy.......Thats your winger, personally i would pref fare playing our "own" IE Sterling and Ibe, but that's just me!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Agree on Borini. Whatever his abilities, and I certainly think he's better than we've seen, the lad deserves a change of luck and if he does go to Sunderland I hope he does well and gets some confidence.

    ReplyDelete
  32. off topic lucas is becoming a problem he has never regain his form from the injury and the amount of free kicks he gives away round our box is criminal give us 5 mill rafa hes yours

    ReplyDelete
  33. This is interesting. Theoretically we need an extra striker in cases of injury, etc. Moses coming is sort of a replacement for Downing and a few more who left this summer. Still, another natural striker on your squad is the legitimate requirement for an intense season. But the club still rather sending him out on loan - For the behalf of game time? If another attacker surprisingly doesn't sign tomorrow then this play will project itself as other brave confidence managerial acting or other curious.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Good height, good build, but not as physically imposing as he used to be. And unfortunately not as consistent.

    ReplyDelete
  35. can we stop winning games 1 nill as I like to watch from my sofa not from behind it

    ReplyDelete
  36. pizz off will you, your talking shite, didnt you see him today?

    ReplyDelete
  37. You don't like that to Lucas man. Even if that's you're opinion fu*k you for being so cold about it. Not LFC way man . . .

    ReplyDelete
  38. You don't talk like that***

    ReplyDelete
  39. have to agree billy ive been a lucas fan from day one but he was poor around the edge of our box today sloppy passes and rash tackles

    ReplyDelete
  40. IMO, i thing this position will be shared for this season. At the end of the season Agger will be sold for a tidy fee of 15+m thus allowing Shako being No 1 (left footed) Defender.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Not convinced about Sterling. Today he just couldn't get hold of the ball. Easily dispossessed by Valencia and others time and again. One good shot, however. Ever since he was rested last term, he's failed to make the impact he made when he first hit the first team. Ibe for me looks a bit more composed and purposeful. Sterling sometimes reminds me of a young Walcott. Plenty of pace, but the end product is often missing.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Sorry but got to disagree. Yes he gave a couple of free kicks away but overall he still does a great job protecting back four - not many players as good as him in that position in Prem.

    ReplyDelete
  43. and not being able to give an opinion is not the English way m8..

    ReplyDelete
  44. LOOK AT THE FACTS

    ReplyDelete
  45. sterling and aspas where the epitome of a lightweight attack today...no end product..no ability to hold the ball up

    ReplyDelete
  46. Are you for real? He was immense today, he gave 1 free kick away towards then end. OPEN YOUR EYE ffs, he was quality.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Well we could beg to differ. But Stevie doesn't dominate the midfield like he used to and that's a fact. The point is, he's 32 and our midfield needs a Henderson rather than a Joe Allen in order to dominate opponent's midfield.

What's the reason for the swearing?

    ReplyDelete
  48. tomorrow is going to be pretty exciting. I'm anticipating some unexpected sales tomorrow. 1 of either Skrtel or Agger. If Barca are interested Agger may well be interested. Skrtel still has the Napoli link too. Could be more, feels like Christmas eve...............

    ReplyDelete
  49. lack of argument id imagine

    ReplyDelete
  50. Christ I know what you mean lol, I was convinced that Utd were going to score in the last minute of injury time

    ReplyDelete
  51. I agree. And that's the worry looking at the bench for the rest of the season. I like Aspas, but if for some reason both Sturridge and Suarez are missing, I think we'll struggle up front.

    ReplyDelete
  52. and Moses will offer?

    ReplyDelete
  53. looking at the FACTS it could be still either way. I don't get your comment .

  54. the 10 commandments

    ReplyDelete
  55. Borini needs a loan hopefully he gets some form. COME ON LIVERPOOL!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  56. That's why I think we need to get someone else in. But he's at least got more experience than the likes of Sterling. Unfortunately, the well may have just run dry.

    ReplyDelete
  57. For God's sake (some) people, Lucas was our best player today.

    ReplyDelete
  58. There's already reports of Rafa coming back in for him....with Sakho an Ilori virtually all done I'd expect it to go ahead, might be partly why he had such a good one today?

    ReplyDelete
  59. Being soul-less doesn't take your opinion. It just puts you out a different way, a Chelsea-ass for instance. "Sell him get him" sounds like a fuc*ing spoiled rich in-responsible kid.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Prefer watch a 1-0 behind the sofa, than at my next door neighbours house. Broke two T.V last year, long my the continue till the January sales.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Now now.. it is not fashionable to say Lucas played well.

    ReplyDelete
  62. everyone has a different perspective on games m8...these games tend to be won by a mistake rather than a piece of genius ...we lost last year because jonjo got sent off like an idiot....im a big lucas fan but i thought he was sloppy around our area today and you just cant do that in these types of games

    ReplyDelete
  63. Jesus, how many times do I have to make this point?! Do not belittle other posters. This is against the comment policy. This comment is out of order. Remain civil or you'll face a ban. Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  64. I had the opposite problem, I was up and down more than a lady of ill repute's under garments.

    ReplyDelete
  65. As i said, he was about, "didn't you see the game" the comment was more out of disbelief than "lack of argument". You honestly cant be for real stating he isnt as commanding, he is being asked to play i different role for the sake of the "team" if you cant see this then your clearly blind...JK apologies for the above!

    ReplyDelete
  66. i wasn't referring to validity of your argument more the way you where trying to prove it

    ReplyDelete
  67. Wat if Man City come with a 18-20 million bid?? Do we sell to them or Napoli?? That wud make Luis think hold on a sec, I cudn't go to Arsenal as their rivals, but Skrtel goes to City and their fine with that??

    ReplyDelete
  68. Good news......Finaly LFC start good decision to get rid Flops player who only passenger into the team. His quality not good as his price and bigg loss to keep him for a longer.Much better to let him go with a permanent deal. He failed to deliver new life and game with LFC.Failure signing.

    ReplyDelete
  69. could be. Alonso made sure he had a corker of a season for us before he left after 2 or 3 average terms. He was desperate to move on. If either Skrtel or Agger go I won't be disapointed our old gaurd including Reina have been stale for a while. Agger is good but fans make out he smacks the ball in from 30 yards everyweek and has a blinder at the back. He hasn't done either for a while ALTHOUGH he has started the season well. Tomorrow will be interesting......

    ReplyDelete
  70. i was not belittling posters it was out of disbelief apologies if i offended Mr Banoog. Apologies if i offended

    ReplyDelete
  71. I'm not talking about just one game. I'm referring to Gerrard's game over the past few years. He's still a phenomenal player, but he doesn't consistently display the physical prowess on which he built his reputation. Hence why Jordan Henderson fits in well in that midfield trio.

    ReplyDelete
  72. i think sahko will be the first name on the sheet m8...they wouldn't have paid so much otherwise

    ReplyDelete
  73. Rubbish. He's as good as ever. He just has a different role in the side.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Given I really doubt that will happen it's a bit of a moot point.

    ReplyDelete
  75. It'll be interesting. If Agger was just a centre-back, that's one thing, but being vice captain....Well, it'll be interesting.

    ReplyDelete
  76. i completely get your point, we are talking about a legend of the game, and payer that want to say in the game past 34 need to change to accommodate, it a sad state but i am 99.9% sure we will never see SG running past the last defender to score a screamer anytime soon. That said i wouldn't swap him for the world.

    ReplyDelete
  77. i dont think anyones offended m8 but the posts just get removed so its just a waste of time cussing people

    ReplyDelete
  78. Rumours abound that Napoli are coming looking for Skrtel.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Just playing devil's advocate... since city need a CB. They were keen blast year

    ReplyDelete
  80. Lucas has been my favourite player for a while. His journey has been extraordinary, from zero to hero. A hero that Kenny needed oh so badly last season. Behind every SG there is a Lucas providing him with the platform to perform. What an attiutude on the boy. If I could afford an extortionately priced LFC shirt Lucas' name would be on the back.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Your opinion. My eyes tell me different. In any case, I'm not attempting to belittle Gerrard. My point is that Henderson works better than Allen due to his physicality.

    ReplyDelete
  82. I definitely wouldn't want to see Dagger go just yet, we need him and Kolo to be able to properly bed in Ilori and Sakho, and have back up if there are blips. Skrtel I thiink needs to move on, not because he's a bad player at all, but because BR obviously doesn't have as much confidence, and we also have Kelly and Wisdom coming through. Besides if we get £10 million plus for him it frees up some cash for investment.

    ReplyDelete
  83. As stated above, don't get me wrong. I'm not trying to say Stevie was poor or is poor or anything of the sort. He needs to be in our midfield. My point is about Henderson vs Allen.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Wait til X-Mas and modify it to resemble the away top and stitch his name on. I didn't buy a top this year not keen on the look of them, still rocking the home one from last season.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Borini I feel will end up an Inzaghi type of player. We have not used him well in his preferred position so we cannot judge him.If he played 10 games as a striker then maybe we would see if he is going to be a hit for us buut it isn't going to happen right now. Having said that we need 4 good strikers at the club and we only have Sturridge and Suarez ,Aspas maybe so how can we let him go ? are we bringing in a Damaio type cf ? if not keep him , play him in his preferred role and let him become a decent player. Look what happened to Sturridge before we got him , he wasn't really given a chance at being a cf.

    ReplyDelete
  86. with your festive jumper

    ReplyDelete
  87. BR is doing a great job with the team and squad re-shaping. There's a great sense of sprit and togetherness which bodes well for the season. Toure has been a big plus and my only wish now would be for another experienced older head to have an impact further forward. Someone in the mould of a Gary Mac

    ReplyDelete
  88. wow that would be nice, but isnt that not Stevie G?

    ReplyDelete
  89. Djimi Traore!!!!!!!... he's somehow still being paid to kick a football about?

    ReplyDelete
  90. Yeah but someone to share the load, esp with such a young squad

    ReplyDelete
  91. Haha, hanges head in shame. 😳SAFC

    ReplyDelete
  92. Well, if we got £20 million from City personally I'd be ok with that... can't speak for Luis but as we opposed him going to Arsenal on the direct competitor basis and Man City are just that rung ahead of that he might understand, even if he doesn't it doesn't look like he's going anywhere...of course there's always tomorrow!!!! Can't see it though.

    ReplyDelete
  93. lol.... probably best you continue to watch next door mate as watching big liv has that affect and tvs can get expencive

    ReplyDelete
  94. I wish Borini the best....he's a very young player who I think could come good with regular games played as an in and around the box striker. Lets hope so as at worst it'll enhance his transfer value for Liverpool come next summer.
Great result today, but the last 2 games have really highlighted our lack of physicality and inability to keep the ball in forward and wide areas when under physical pressure. Aspas, Countinho and Sterling when he came on were very poor in possession and were taking too many touches on the ball when a simple pass to keep the ball was needed. Was the worst game I've seen from Countinho and I hope he isn't starting to believe the hype that has been building around him....we need all these young players to be continuing to do the simple things well. Even Gerrard was guilty of attempting too many Hollywood passes in the first half especially. Need everyone to be buying-in to the pass and make yourself available and provide simple options philosophy that we demonstrated in the first three halves of football this season. Lucas was also sloppy at times. Some things to work on and consider with window closing imminently.
Thankfully, the defending was outstanding today - possibly the best game I've seen from Glen Johnson defensively today and Skirtel was also excellent. Really worried about Johnson's injury as he's started the season brilliantly for us and hope its not too serious and he an be fit straight after the international break.
Suggestion is that Napoli will be coming in for Skirtel and Barcelona could still come in for Agger If that happens we'll need to sell one of them given we've bought Sakho. That could free up some funds to secure a skilful, athletic and physical attacking player or defensive midfielder but time is very short now to get any deal done. Would love to get Yarmolenko as I think a match squad with both Moses and Yarmolenko as well as Sturridge, Suarez and Coutinho as the attacking options would offer the combination of flair, skill and power to compete with the best sides in terms of creativity and goal threat, and the outlets to keep hold of the ball when under pressure. If we don't get another stronger and more powerful attacking player, then Moses will need to be playing regularly to provide that added strength, power and physicality in forward areas and out wide when necessary.

  96. What i would like, is a positive post for a change, something along the likes of ZERO TO HERO - THE LIFE OF JORDAN HENDERSON, as i firmly belive he has now come of age, today he was all over the place fighting for the team, completely unrecognized, lets take a time out to savoir the fact we are TOP of the league for 2 weeks, JK please post a "positive post"................YNWA

    ReplyDelete
  97. He had to go. I never did understand this signing. As a forward he isn't quick and can't beat a player. He was always well over-priced. He'll never be top four club (or even potential club) standard

    ReplyDelete
  98. JK, my last post in regards to 'being positive' why was it deleted, it wasn't derogatory nor offensive?

    ReplyDelete
  99. Don't you think it might have a negative effect on DS? I get the feeling he's thriving on being the number 1, don't think we can get much more out of him by giving him competition. If we buy someone for £20 mill we would have to start him. May mess up the formation.
I know Moses can do a job up front for us, he seemed to score when ever he got a chance at Chelsea.

    ReplyDelete
  100. I agree with you but, if Danny Sturridge gets Injured and Suarez gets banned we haven't got another reliant forward bringing in damiao would create more competition and push Sturridge and Suarez more IMO

    ReplyDelete
  101. Just get some duck tape and modify it.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Italian players..especially strikers peak when they're around 26/28 years of age. His positioning, willing runner, constant pest to defenders, superb technique, and he's got quite decent set piece ability..Ronny esque ones. Be patient people. It's not like we need him to perform right now. Give him the space to develop.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Where'd you get this info?

    ReplyDelete
  104. One more day left. I guess after the 3 we will sign we will be done. Strange window. We could have done so much more. I don't understand why we sign 2 CB's now

    ReplyDelete
  105. Maybe because one of Agger or Skrtel could be leaving?

    ReplyDelete
  106. Because wisdom needs to go on loan and it adds depth to our back line and they are both great talents, and we have them, excellent for us, also I'm not sure I think 1 more players might be on the way :)

    ReplyDelete
  107. Just speculating. Nothing close as yet

    ReplyDelete
  108. Unfair criticism of Rodgers in my opinion. He was played wide in a front three for Roma and got a decent goal return. To go off topic a little bit... Get in!!! Beat United, top of the league and signing three players in the positions we needed. Yes it's early days, but if we can't all be happy as Liverpool fans at this point when can we?

    ReplyDelete
  109. I had to laugh a bit, so true, "if Suarez gets banned" that's pretty bad that we worry more about that. It's a real shame cause he never gets injured. Touch wood. Think maybe someone who won't mide sitting on the bench and do a good job.

    ReplyDelete
  110. Think skrtel is on route to Napoli now. Feel it.

    ReplyDelete
  111. i think moses could play cf at a push...on another note whats happened to yesil

    ReplyDelete
  112. borini is an out an out cf in the tony cottee mold if you ask me , im not sure why rogers bought him because he wants his front 3 players to be striker/wingers ,,, i dare say borini could do well if a team plays a system which suits his style 4 4 2 playing off a big man would suit him

    ReplyDelete
  113. Fantastic game to watch not only for the game-long intensity missing before this AND Moses,Sakho and Ilori in the stands. Yeah baby. Great day!!!

    ReplyDelete
  114. To Kieran;

We signed two defenders for injury coverage, competition and the opportunity to keep the best 6-7 guys after all is sorted out. Hope that Kelly and Wisdom are in that group. I believe Coates was never going to work perhaps one may be converted to a defensive mid...... Just my guess. For all the talk about Enrique he played well again on D but still is not a great passer.....

    ReplyDelete
  115. done his acl in last season same injury as martin Kelly and lucas

    ReplyDelete
  116. poor borini! hes played at like 4 or 5 clubs in the last couple of years...still so young..should be given a proper chance somewhere...its toying with his career

  120. What a waste.. He has one injury hit year where he doesn't even get played in his natural position and everybody throws him on the scrapheap? He should take the loan offer if it happens and prove what he can do to BR, come back with a year under his belt! Some tough competition in the shame of Fletcher!

  121. depth depth depth depth and depth!

    ReplyDelete
  122. Did I watch the same game? Sterling struggled when he first came on because we kept giving the ball the away, but towards the end he held it up well. For an 18 yr old I was impressed with his maturity

    ReplyDelete
  123. Why wasn't he going to make an impact? He got injured pretty much instantly. He will be good soon good movement and positioning

    ReplyDelete
  124. what other wingers are we linked with?

    ReplyDelete
  125. Just seen Di Canio's post match interview, his tough love could either make or break Borini. Hopefully he won't rip Borini a new asshole, and give a bit of leeway cause he's a fellow country man. I like Borini personally, his passion is admirable(looks like he's about to cry when he scores).

  126. Ha yea and me thinking fergie time was finished with

  127. Or saving his health for the loan move.

    ReplyDelete
  128. Not Liverpool standard, but still better than Aspas.

    ReplyDelete
  129. Could we play 3 at the back?

    ReplyDelete
  130. Skyrtel called BR a liar,(indirectly), I am surprised BR kept him, Great today though.

    ReplyDelete
  131. I have a bad feeling that Borini will be part of a relegated Sunderland. Hope not, hope he does well. I would of kept him in our squad.

Skrtel had a decent game, certainly proved some people wrong and deserves to start the next game.

    ReplyDelete
  132. There really is no point in this comment of a waste of 11 million! some play better, some worse and others take time to adjust. The money is basically irrelevant as with all purchases are a gamble. If by what you say then the 11 million wasted is more than made up of the successful ones this year like Coutinho & Sturridge. Just accept there will be losses and profit on all players and enjoy the game and more importantly.....enjoy life :)

    ReplyDelete
  133. This move is what is best for the club, and best for Borini. There's no room for him right now - there's enough back up, and other options to use. If the current trials aren't working they can be resolved in January. Borini won't be missed for now - he's had his turn, and it didn't work. The club can't afford to keep trying him(for now).

What the team needs now is the return of Suarez. Great results so far, top of the league, 3 clean sheets - but you can't win ugly every time, and can't get lucky every time. It's great that they are winning thus far with LS, but it will catch up.

Sturridge is a great goal scorer, but not much more - in 3 games he made a total of 1 key pass - basically he could have added 3 or 4 assist to his goals if he weren't so selfish in the past few games. The next 2 games can be won, and when Suarez returns the whole team will be the better for it. There will be more space to operate in, and there will be more creativity, more chances set up. If before the MO was "feed the ball to Suarez", now the MO is "feed the ball to Sturridge" difference is Suarez will redistribute, Sturridge will not.

Good times ahead - Suarez will (believe it or not) bring balance, just as Gerrard does, Coutinho will be back to what he was doing last season, Sturridge will be banging in Goals, Aspas will be more useful. As I say, good times.

  134. If we compare between Suarez and Bale, i think suarez are much2 better than bale. The credit to bale only young and faster.Luis Suarez have many great skill if look to freekick, dribble, passing, score and create chance to score goal....Exellent point. Why Real Madrid and others clubs refuse to meet asking price from LFC.It is very worth and will get back return big profit for the buyer clubs.Last minutes dealing is not good and LFC will don't have advantage. They will rushing and panic to find out new replacement for Luis Suarez.Maybe the good thing is LFC will not entertain any bid fof Luis Suarez during transfers window nearly close. If LFC stiil cannot keep him much better sell him with higher price.£60million plus with Mesut Ozil or Karem Benzema as compensation for LFC.Deal?

    ReplyDelete
  135. Borini has no chance of starting, not when Suarez is back. Aspas goes to the bench and Moses is there now ... I'd say the only chance of Borini getting ANY game time was injury. Maybe we're leaving ourselves short, you hope not. Who do we end up on the bench once Suarez is back: Aspas, Alberto, Sterling, Ibe and probably Moses. Lots of young talent, but Sterling was good last season and Rodgers likes to give the kids a chance.

I think the move is primarily about getting the best out of the player, otherwise he's useless to us. We know he can score but he just won't play for Liverpool. Worst case scenario he has a good season for Sunderland and then we can get back some of that transfer fee we paid.

  136. sorry mate henderson ran is socks off ,and lucas was like a pitbull ,both could have easy got man of the match ,and the majority round were i was sitting would have given it to lucas

    ReplyDelete
  137. lucas stays were he is thank you,he was brilliant yesterday

    ReplyDelete
  138. you are joking watch the match again ,lucas nade one bad pass all day coutinho was very messy, lucas broke up uniteds play countless times ,and was a commanding presence he should have been MOTM

    ReplyDelete
  139. mike how much is our net spend this window ,fair enough they have spent a few quid ,but lets not go overboard they have hardly broke the bank, infact for a club as big as lfc i would say they have spent bare minimum, concidering we are supposed to be one of the richest clubs in the world

I believe the ruthless streak actually comes from the owners! They have made it very clear about expenditure.Sending Borini out on loan is a way of saving on outlay.
Suarez will be back soon, even if it is just until the end of the season. In the meantime Sunderland will pay Borini's wages, the same as Wisdom and others out on loan.'Good experience for them also! In the meantime LFC look like bringing in another more experienced striker.
I personally believe that Borini will improve with more games.

    ReplyDelete
  141. sorry mate for me he was man of the match yes he gave a few free kicks away but in the second half the amount of times he broke up uniteds play was great ,i doubt very much if he had got injuried we would be celebrating 3 points now,

    ReplyDelete
  142. add the 96 and that will make a hundred for the party on his hundreth birthday ,hope they all ,were with us

    ReplyDelete
  143. He may be a better player than we've seen but this loan deal says a lot. Borini's favoured position is as a striker. We have only Sturridge and Suarez ahead of him in that position. Suarez is suspended for two more games and Sturridge is "at 70%". So not only does Rodgers rather play Sturridge at 70% than a fit Borini, he also loans him out when he his only other options are a not 100% fit striker and one who averages 10 games suspension per season. I really hope he pulls a Bellamy type signing out of his hat today because Moses is a decent loan signing but i can't see him play as a targetman.

    ReplyDelete
  144. Yeah but surely it would have been better to spread the money through the team. Do we need another CB to come and not play?

    ReplyDelete
  145. I can't see zagged leaving. If Skrtel leaves that would bring our net spend to 5m or there abouts. Surely we would sign someone else then?

    ReplyDelete
  146. I think it's a bit presumptious to say Borini will play a lot because he's Italian and so is DiCanio JK. I doubt PDC picks his team based on passports. And I doubt he'll be there much longer anyway. He does really seem to have it in for Wickham though.

    ReplyDelete
  147. I WOULD LIKE TO SEE HIM GO PERMENTLY RATHER THAN ON LOAN. I WASN'T IMPRESSED SINCE WE SIGNED HIM!

    ReplyDelete
  148. He was and still talented striker which was proven before, proven during euro 723. The fact that he had a hard time at Liverpool and going down the the selection is a move of practical Liverpool to ensure enough quality man power in future. If he is done, Brendan may just sell him which is not the case.

    ReplyDelete
  149. Sakho is way more athletic than Agger he may be better suited to a D.M role but gotta admit i was happy with Skrtel last night.

    ReplyDelete
  150. That said, Chelsea rejects do fare better for us than our rejects for Chelsea on the whole.

    ReplyDelete
  151. This seems DAFT - especially if Madrid take Suarez TODAY ?? Then we will be left with s as we were 12 months ago..So glad Bale went to Madrid and not as I wrongly feared - to Man U - LIF IS GOOD BOYS

    ReplyDelete
  152. You mention his injury and the chance that he hasnt had a chance at his correct position, well this loan will allow him some time in this position. Perfect solution. He might still prove to be a great signing at LFC if he shines at Sunderland.

    ReplyDelete
  153. Just a goal scorer. Utter tripe. He held the ball up brillianly vs United and allowed other players to join the attack. Suarez would have run at goal, lost the ball and United would have been back in possention. I feel Sturridge offers a much better out ball than Suarez. Suarez should replace Aspas in the team and DS to start as the central striker.

    ReplyDelete
  154. LOL where's Jason? what's that about 25 million spent today? ... 8 hours to go

    ReplyDelete
  155. Sure he can be the central striker, that is his role. What I'm saying is that the team will be better off with Suarez because he will set up goals - as it stands he's about 9 times for likely to lay on a key pass than Sturridge. DS could have set up sitters for Aspas and others on multiple occasions, but decided to go for goal in a difficult position. His goals have been nice, well taken, but he's missed out on opportunities by not passing. Long term this can cause a devid/resentment - as I Suarez will get the best out of everyone on the attack, opening up space, and laying on passes.

    ReplyDelete
  156. I think BR's just being nice to the lad. Don't see how he can get into the team now, but having worked with him in the past and getting goals from him, probably letting him go to another team where he can get games which would also help him with the Italy prospects.

    ReplyDelete
  157. This is crazy stuff. I don't get it. If FSG made a 30m , or even 25m offer for Mata, it means they had this money to invest on playmaker this whole months, but were being cheap picky unconfident people, and now seem to be pushing at the last moment.

Shameful stuff if you ask me. Looks like they didn't care until the team 'miraculously' had this huge season start. It looks like they might hadn't even singed some of the last three incomings if it had gone a different way for LFC. There's not a lot of other state of minds i can suspect for playin it this way. Obviously a confident playmaker is most significant missing piece for top 4. Should have been secured by now. I don't know i don't know if those guys has any true respect and faith for the club in them. If they hadn't made this Mata bid i could have figured they were working on a long plan team building with tight budget. Very, very curious.

    ReplyDelete
  158. ill take your word m8..to be honest i watched it on the telly ans sometimes certain things players do stick in your mind its like if a striker misses sitter that all you remember i just remeber lucas givinh a way a free kick or something and me screaming at the telly...but to be honest i know f*ck all anyway

    ReplyDelete
  159. i thought our attack was non existent today...listen im not knocking the effort but i wasnt particulary impressed with tino aspas or sterling on the creative front

    ReplyDelete
  160. he did give a free kick away but he stopped a lot of play,i was screaming for us to have a few more shots ,but a win is a win lets keep it going

    ReplyDelete
  161. For real!!!
Without FSg we would be bankrupt now !!!
We were £200m+ in debt with the banks willing to foreclose now were about £80 plus they have invested money in playing staff, changed our money making progress off the pitch ,hopefully sorting out the stadium (still in the unknown this one )
Plus removed a mediocre squad on way too much money ,with a leaner fighting team, yes we need quality ,but time is needed

    ReplyDelete
  162. With the injuries and being behind 3 strikers he needs games , he's only 21 , lets get him some games somewhere else so he can make a statement of his worth , that's good management ,

    ReplyDelete
  163. Ya, I'm with you on this. Still there's something curious about their mentality if you ask me. Which was my point [very significant stuff if you're an ambitious person].

Guess will sit and watch how the following two coming seasons will play.

    ReplyDelete
  164. I mean they might be good business persons, or not bad at business persons, but their relations with LFC and football in general can still be very well questioned, according to previous and current, just odd, events.

    ReplyDelete
  165. Your saying sturidge is just a goal scorer !!!!
    Are you for real
1 true goal goal scorers are like golddust and you pay a premium for them
2 he runs at the back line harasses them constantly ,spent a lot of 2nd half defending too
Suarez will be a welcome return in addition to sturidge not instead ,plus does Suarez pass nr the box ? Not often ,sturidge does
Sturidge is more of a team player,Suarez is one of those true world class players who can change a game on his own
    We need both to succeed

    ReplyDelete
  166. It is a bit worrying what happens to our play in the second half, particularly giving the ball away, but I'm over the moon about 9 out of 9 points. I'm looking forward to Suarez coming back that's for sure!!!

    ReplyDelete
  167. Completely agree with that sentiment. Also if any of our forward players pick up injuries then Allen can come in and Gerrard can operate further upfield if required but not over a whole season.

    ReplyDelete
  168. We already have that older head in Stevie G and Toure. Sakho is the most impressive signing for me in the late part of the transfer window. He can give our side the kind of dominance in defence that Man Utd , Chelsea and Man City have enjoyed. I would go as far as to say that when Toure is back fit that Agger may be the one to struggle to get into the side on occasion.

    ReplyDelete
  169. too expensive...too inexperienced...too injury prone....two x 5 million too much!!!!
