LFC want 'unstoppable' €23m star Shevchenko called a 'great player'. Better than Willan...?

With the Willian deal now dead in the water, Liverpool are reportedly considering a move for €23m-rated Dynamo Kiev attacker Andrey Yarmolenko.

According to a report yesterday in Ukrainian newspaper Gazeta, Liverpool are 'close' to signing Yarmolenko, whose current contract expires in 2015.

AC Milan tried to sign the 23-year old last summer, but according to his Agent, Mikhail Gulordava, Kiev rejected the Rossoneri's €20m bid:

“Milan made a €20 million bid for Yarmolenko, but the only way to tempt Kiev’s president is to make an offer that he can’t refuse.

"My client obviously wants to play for a club like Milan. He would like to follow in the footsteps of Shevchenko. Premier League clubs are also interested."

In a recent interview, Ukraine legend Andriy Shevchenko - a team-mate at Kiev - heaped praise on Yarmolenko, who is described by national coach Oleg Blokhin as 'unstoppable'. Sheva told Yahoo Sport:

"Yarmolenko is a great player, talented and quick. Even though he doesn’t play in my position up front, he still manages to score plenty of goals. If he works hard, he could reach the highest level like I did"

Liverpool are currently odds-on favourites to sign Yarmolenko, and reports in Spain today claim that Reds are ready to make a €23m offer.

Yarmolenko is probably not the 'marquee' name LFC fans are hoping for, but there are some clear positives to his potential signing:

* 39 goals for Kiev in the last three seasons. Double figures every year.
* 11 goals in 32 games for the Ukraine national team.
* At 6'2, he's strong and powerful, a good contrast to Sterling/Coutinho.

Yarmolenko scored for Kiev last night in the club's 3-2 Europa League victory over Aktobe. Worth a bid...?

  2. Not a chance this will happen. FSG have finally shown their hand. They are taking millions and millions from the fans and out of the club and are NOT re-investing in good quality players. Liverpool stand no chance of Champions League and will struggle to make the top six. FSG OUT!

    ReplyDelete
  3. dont think he's better than willian..but would be a good addition.
and why milan is not bidding for him this season.?

    ReplyDelete
  4. he's looking promising !!!

    ReplyDelete
  5. I'd take him just off his stats and that youtube video clip :-) Never seen this guy before but he looks a good player and he would give us something different which Rodgers likes but Milan had a decent bid turned down and like it says above it would take an offer they can't refuse, can't see FSG making that sort of offer. I would love to see Adam Ljajic and Sakho come in imo they would strengthen the team more than Willian would have and for the same sort of money.

  6. If they can get him yes definitely a proven goal scorer who fits the bill nicely and adds a bit of athleticism to the team.

Your very clueless, how are FSG taking money out of the club? Have you seen the last finacial year report? Stating they put in a extra 50 million.

  8. Yevhen Konoplyanka is the guy for LFC. Come on BR, go get him. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sba40Ids9yQ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E-UqTo9Mexg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3glDfOfpXMs

  9. Go get Yevhen Konoplyanka..the Ukranian Messi

  10. Fits the bill, but will be amazed if FSG shell out

  11. It amazes me to see how many supposed fans change their tune.

One minute FSG were the saviors of our club, happy to fund KD to the tune of 120mil and now they are the Evil Owners and must be destroyed.

  12. Have no idea who this guy is and I personally won't rate a player on the evidence of a few 30 odd second you tube clips.

If you guys have seen him play, and not just on you tube, and say he is good, then game on :)

    ReplyDelete
  13. Chelsea is where strikers go to die :)

    ReplyDelete
  14. This guy has been plays alot like C.Ronaldo and i think at the right club, he can fufil his potential. lightning quick, tall, strong and skillful he's been described as 'Ukraine Ronaldo' and hes known for long-range shooting. Ive seen him a few times in CL and hes a special player, surely. he may not be the marquee signing you lot want like Eriksen, Muriel or Damaio, but with that there will be less pressure on his shoulders and he will shock people.

if we take out £19M for Andriy Yarmolenko to replace downing
buy Cristian Eriksen for £16M from Ajax and altogether that will be £35M on one guarenteed marquee signing and another good signing with word class potential.

    we could look like this
    GK-Mingolet
    RB-Johnson/Kelly
    CB-Agger/Kelly
    CB-Toure/Skrtel
    LB-Cissohko/Enrique
    CM-Lucas/Henderson
    CM-Gerrard/Allen
    AM-Coutinho/Eriksen
    RF-Yarmolenko/Aspas/Sterling
    LF-Eriksen/Suarez/Coutinho/Alberto
    ST-Sturridge/Suarez/Aspas

If we get in Andriy Yarmolenko and Christian Eriksen for a combined fee of £35M, Liverpool will definately be contenders for not just top 4 but the title also. looks a pretty strong squad to me.

  15. cant see this deal happening if im honest...plus i dont know if hes worth 23 million....i actually think our window is over.We may pick up a central defender for around the 5 to 10 bracket but thats it....as the old saying goes it is what it is ...maybe a trimmed down squad is whats needed who knows...sometimes having ltd options and being forced to pick certain players can bring out the best in both the players and the manager

    ReplyDelete
  16. the Ukrainian ronaldo to go with the welsh xavi...thats some team we are forming....sorry i couldn't resist

    ReplyDelete
  17. well they certainly make a killing

    ReplyDelete
  18. I have been saying for over a year now that we need to look at the Russian and Ukranian league more for talent. Vidic came from there and so did Skrtel and no matter what you think about big Martin now, he was rock solid for us until we changed our system. That's ok because he wasn't bought to play in this system, he was bought to play in Benitez's. Yarmolenko is more of an attacking midfielder in the mould of Mkitharyan whereas Konoplyanka is the real out and out winger. I'm not sure who we should go for so I'd prefer if we just bought both :-). The difference between them and Willian and Mkitharyan is that they have little experience at the highest level so I would expect the latter two to have a much easier transition into a big league. Having said that, they're young and brawny so maybe they won't give a shed who you put in front of them. And while we're there please get Rakitskiy for CB rather than Sakho who is effectively Heskey the defender version (yes I know I already used that to describe Diakite but if the shoe fits :-) )

As Rodgers said he wants to bring in a LW, so it would happen. He won't make the same mistake again :)

    ReplyDelete
  20. As much as I do not rate Skrtel you do make a good point about him being brought in to play in RB system.

Also from what I have seen of Sakho your description is one of the best I have heard to describe him lol

    ReplyDelete
  21. uhuh....
Anyway, with another LW coming in, where is Luis Alberto supposed to play?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Well technically Alberto is our only LW and BR has said on a number of occasions he wants at least 2 players for each position.

    ReplyDelete
  23. if spurs lose willian bet this deal will be hijacked :P

  24. I dont want to sound bad but you guys got to stop saying eriksen this and eriksen that. He is Suarez mk2 interms of ego.

  25. Stats are not good enough. Next, please.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Very good player. My only concern is players from the Ukraine and Russia have never settled in the Prem

    ReplyDelete
  27. Actually ive seen him play in euro 2012 and i think for a tall man like him,his feet is incredible. I swear i saw the ukraine against england and yarmolenko and also konoplyanka destroyed england defence. hes great dribbler and great long shooter. LFC should buy him fast, cuz we really need a new dimension in the attack. And he is left footed :-)

    ReplyDelete
  28. Is this another stupid rumours just to make us happy but in the end the player go to other club? I don't think this rumours might be true.. Come on FSG do something...

    We still need another option....

    ReplyDelete
  34. Like I said.. Technically :)

Yes those players can play in that position but I wouldn't call them LW

    ReplyDelete
  35. Ridiculous comment you haven't got a clue!!!

    ReplyDelete
  36. I've only seen him play once or twice (against England I think) and don't really remember thinking much of his performance, but it's easy to catch an outlying performance.

From the stats and video it looks like he's more in the Mkhitaryan as opposed to the Willian mould, with direct play & efficiency over intricacy & flair (which isn't a bad thing of course mind!).

He's at the perfect age and it would be nice to have a little size brought into the team, so hopefully he's as good as advertised and something can be worked out.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I just think 7 million is a lot of money to pay for a player you're not going to play. When Suarez is back, given that Sturridge stays fit, either him or Coutinho have to play out wide. And in fairness, I think both will because I can't see Rodgers dropping Coutinho into midfield in stead to replace Henderson or Allen.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Yeah I would tend to agree but on the other hand aren't we always complaining that we have very little depth

  46. Why this guy? If Mata is available...get him NOW. 19 goals and 35 assists in all competitions for Chelski last year and if he is extraneous to Chelski needs GET HIM. Good things just happen when he is in the game. Why grow another Steveg gerrard when one is available NOW. Get Mata.

    ReplyDelete
  47. How many midfielders do chelsea want?????? Id love Mata as our so called marquee signing he is amazing, but unless we get for 1 million pounds and 10k salary it wont be sanctioned :-(

    ReplyDelete
  48. 2013-14 Pl = 6 :goals = 2 .

    2012-13 Pl = 49 :goals =16 : Assists = 11.

    2011-12 Pl = 52 :goals =18 : Assists = 17.

    2010-11 Pl = 57 :goals = 19: Assists = 12.

A consistent performer through and through and definitely worth a shout @ £ 15-20 million .If he makes half the goals/assists at LFC he will do just fine m8 .Lean on stats as u lean on a lamppost only for illumination .

    ReplyDelete
  49. the closest rogers will get to mata is buying his socks in matalan

    ReplyDelete

  53. Finaly B.Rodgers says the true story about LFC situation.LFC is not rich clubs. This summer LFC not able to pay high fee for target players and many of them are missing to anothers clubs.John Henry must release LFC to another megarich owner or company.FSG only want a victory but cannot give big budget or cash injection to drive clubs toward and more advance. The latest is 1 by 1 rival clubs can hijack any target player that you want to sign with power of money.Very sad is LFC must sell out the best players to get more money for bid new players. This is not good for our future.
The true story is now the right times to sell out Luis Suarez to Real Madrid with mega deal. Not many times left now and LFC must get faster to sell Luis Suarez because he is not happy to keep playing for LFC.No point to keep him for a longer and longer times.Sell him with the good price.I think Luis Suarez value is must over than 70 milion pound. Why not swap with 1 or 2 players we needed from Real Madrid? 60 milion plus with Angel Di Maria or Mesut Ozil.I think fare and win win situation because it is will take times to get good replacement for Luis Suarez.I the same times why not LFC try to get back former striker Fernando Torres from Chelsea as panic shopping player?.....Last choice but enough to help LF win back again.

  58. Just throwing it out there but I hear Chelsea want to loan out Moses. I can see this happening. Just a feeling.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I think he would be a better acquisition than Willian but I have not seen anything about reports in spain or the Ukranian Gazeta. Can you provide evidence of this please.

    ReplyDelete
  60. its a non starter m8

    ReplyDelete
  61. we could do with moses and a few miracles to boot

    ReplyDelete
  62. i don't think this deal is in the offing to be hijacked....what we say about other teams hijacking our targets they say the same thing about us...its about closing the deal .....ABC always be closing....we couldn't close our eyes in a sandstorm

    ReplyDelete
  63. Probably mate. Its true that we went odds on to sign him with the bookies but the bit about a report in the Ukranian Gazeta seems to be made up.

    ReplyDelete
  70. I hope this player will not be next Andry Voronin from Ukranine

    ReplyDelete
  71. If the other signings are anything to go by, then this one could prove to be probable.
First no real press buzz around this - there wasn't really much for the other signings.
Odds were slashed without any press buzz, not like with Willian - what prompted this? My thinking, somebody on the inside made a wager - like what happened with Suarez and Arsenal.
Price range is about right, need for the player is there, age is in range, profile as well - won't be demanding over the top wages.
Timing is also right, now that it seems Suarez is staying, decision to buy attacking options would be affected by the Suarez situation.
The money is there, the need is there, the player seems to be available, and within range.
This will happen, watch and see. ( I won't feel bad if I'm wrong).

    ReplyDelete
  72. Also an assumption...maybe he'd like to play where his talents are appreciated. After watching Schurrle, I think I know who's going to start and his name isn't Juan.

Hey fucktard - I got a great title for your next article:
"Jaimiee Kaniee coming out with secret love & wanting to be assfucked by all LFC squad - Squandered love?"

    ReplyDelete
  74. Very good points regarding Russia & Ukrainian league. During Soviet era, some of the best players played there, who were never unveiled to western world.

Rakitskiy is a solid CB, but at 5'11" (180cm), I don't think he is fit for EPL, may be for Seria A or Spain, but not for EPL, BundesLiga or Ligue 1. I think, like you, many underestimates the French League (& players). Sakho is a much better version than Heskey as CB & the young Germans showed the quality of the best English CBs in WC 2010. Sakho 'll walk into England's starting XI, but who cares, he probably 'll go to Milan, I guess.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Indeed we are a thin squad, but as we don't have Europe this year (No Thursday-Sunday fixture & no long air travel), might just carry till Jan. Already we are in a much better situation than last year & the way Sterling, Ibe & Suso developing, we might just wait for one or two windows instead of panic buying.

I actually believe CL is not that big an issue, if we are ready to over pay, we can always bring players. FSG burnt hands once, understandably are over cautious this time.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Why would we want Moses, when we sold JC to West Ham already.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Mata 'll not come to us, he 'll go to Everton instead. If a club can pay 20mn for Downing, when Mata was willing to come for similar price, that club don't deserve him. & to establish the likes of Spearing, Adam the treatment we gave to Miereles or Acqualini, it 'll take time for us to convince non British players.

Since Sir Alex, I don't think British Managers has any pulling power - even Moyes is struggling as the Manger of MU.

    ReplyDelete
  78. You gotta have a least one messiah, if you cant have Jesus Christ, why not go for Moses? I here he can part defenses like the red sea.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Like it man. We defo don't need the second coming. Amen

    ReplyDelete
  80. Nice thoughts, only part I am not sure is about how much money is available? There must be some truth on FSG trying to sell the club silently. They have slashed the wage, has cleared all the financial ambiguities & has stabilized the club. LFC is a much better Club for any ambitious owners now then 3 years back. I am sure there are buyers who are willing to buy at a considerable amount of profit to the Yanks. Over an investment of 300mn, around 50m net profit in 3 years sounds a very good deal.

The way the owners kept hold on Suarez actually gives me a thought that there could be a buyer behind & FSG is trying to minimize the outflow of cash as much as possible (they are actually 3-4m net positive this window so far) but at the same time don't want (aren't allowed) to sell the marque players to EPL rivals. Last time, they did sell Torres to EPL rivals at profit.

Otherwise, it's quite clear that, we are 25-30m worth of investment away from a top 4 finish & as the team stands now, we are likely to miss just by a whisker (may be by 2-3 points) & long-term owners don't bargain that way. May be I am wrong, but H&G did almost similar things in a clumsy way.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Jesus, the evidence is in the article. Click 'Gazeta' - it's a link, as is 'reports in spain'. I don't post stuff without linked sources.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Apologies, it didn't show as a link on the device I was using. But thanks for calmly pointing out that the link is in the post.

    ReplyDelete
  83. I don't appreciate the implication that I make stuff up, which is exactly what you suggested with your demand for 'evidence'.

    ReplyDelete
  84. There's definitely an argument to made that the actions being taken might be because of an impending sale. The otherside is, is that they've stayed on the sidelines waiting for certain outcomes (i.e suarez) before acting further.
I'm sure there will be 20m - 30m investment before the close, but it won't be on 1 player, but 2 or 3. They've trimmed the fat, overall the squad is better - it's a wise gamble, odds are much better on getting champions league if they add quality, and the investment would pay itself off. They have been talking about spending money, and they will. Just don't expect any big names - more like players like Aspas or Yarmolenko.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Do you really think "Can you provide evidence please" is a demand? Dear me, you wouldn't like me when I am being demanding ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  86. If you are smart (& don't have funding from Oil or Mafia money), I think for 10-12 mn, you can get quite decent players. If 20-30mn is available, I think it's wiser to spend on the likes of Capel, Yarmolenko or Aywe. These are very good player, just a step lower than the outstanding category, but at least @ 1/3 of price. If we get 2-3 players more of Aspas quality, still I think a top 4 is possible.

    ReplyDelete
  87. These are all good arguments, but I look at Mata like I looked at a 25 year old Derek Jeter. If I want to build a team I start with guys like Mata and Jeter. You give up a lot of money but you get so much more back: ability, leadership, motivation, a tiger of an attacking mid-fielder that never quits...ever. Mata understands the style BR wants. He's more than able to handle the speed of the BPL. There's no adjustment period. Ask Suarez if he'd like Mata setting the table for him.

    ReplyDelete
  88. No where near Willian. 20m+ for this guy is a wild, reckless gamble.

    ReplyDelete
  89. That i would agree with, but he's a quality player. We're not going to sign him though because BR wants to play Coutinho centrally, That's Eriksens position and he's not as effective out wide.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Because Milan like nearly ALL of Serie A are flat out BROKE...

    ReplyDelete
  91. Astonishing comment that jim! You do realise that general costs of running the club on a weekly basis is to the tune of approximately £1million which the owners have paid out of their own pockets! They certainly have been surprised by the financial implications of running the club im sure! Then you have transfer fees, the 120 million that kenny and commolli blew and the approx 80-90 million rodgers has had and you begin to realise that they have thrown fortunes at it! You should carry out a little more research before you make daft comments like that!

    ReplyDelete
  92. Sorry.... but you're clueless

    ReplyDelete
  93. People Liverpool wont be spending 20m on any player till they are back in the cl . Yarmolenko, Erisken , can't see it. Eriksen has said he only wants to go to a title chasing club and we haven't done that at Anfield since 08-09. Stop kiddin yourselves on that the cream of European football are coming cos it isn't happening . We have a team that should be able to give any the leagues top clubs a game but over a season we haven't got the quality in the squad to mount a top 4 challenge. Nevertheless I hope I am wrong .

    ReplyDelete
  94. You may be right but ones again that league called Champion League is a stumbling block. He will play every game no doubt at LFC but hey let's hope. But stop assuming and am sure LFC have taught about your point.

    ReplyDelete
  95. I am wary of a player from such a league to be honest. I suppose those who have seen him in the CL are best placed to talk. £20m is big money for a player untried in any of the top leagues.

    ReplyDelete
  96. I am more than convinced that Mata 'll be a perfect signing for us, probably better than Chelsea, because at Stamford Bridge, the biggest don is Morinho & his ego 'll not allow any individual to flourish. Here, the team 'll be build around Mata, Suarez & Pipo. But, the problem is, we don't play in CL & for a Spanish International, it's essential to play there in a WC year. Just think, for a winger/AM position Mata is fighting with Navas, Silva, Cazorla, Alcantra, Pedro, even Iniesta & Villa, who all 'll play in CL, & yet there are likes of Munian, Isco, Capel, Tello waiting. It's unfortunate to play for Spain now days as attacking MF & Mata has to give Del Bosque enough reasons to pick him for Brazil (Let alone start in XI).

    ReplyDelete
  97. Where are all of the Spurs fans that were on the LFC blogs harping on about Willian choosing Spurs over LFC, blah, blah, blah. KARMA!!! :)

    ReplyDelete
  98. I'd rather they got Eric Lamela, no?

    ReplyDelete
  99. I wouldn't say Erikson is Marquee.. Too much hype in my opinion and I've said it loads, I don't think we're even interested in him! Maybe we were in Alderweireld for a while but not Erikson..
    But Lamella is agree with!!

    ReplyDelete
  100. I think Shevchenko was Abramovic's signing and not Mourinho's. Much like that other Russian he signed when he first took over. The one that went to Pompey the season after? Don't remember his name. I think he wanted to put his own region more into the spotlights as well.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Hehe walking into the England team is hardly impressive though is it?

    ReplyDelete
  102. It can only be hijacked if we're actually in for him. Which we are not.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Is it possible to play Rakitskiy at DM role as a back up of Lucas?

    ReplyDelete
  104. Premier l to intense for this guy IMO

    ReplyDelete
  105. No. Well of course technically it is but if we're looking for a DM we should be buying one. Spurs got an absolute steal with Capoué at 9 million.

    ReplyDelete
  106. Kanchelskis did pretty well! Ivanovic seems pretty happy at Chelsea. But there have been a lot of disappointments, it's true.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Either Andriy Yarmolenko or Yevhen Konoplyanka. We need atleast some quality players for the future AND atleast ONE 'marquee' signing. Please BR please dont dissapoint the fans and let down the club

    ReplyDelete
  108. hahaha made me roll XD

    ReplyDelete
  109. There are some of the best young midfielders playing in France at a very reasonable price - we never tried there. Musa Sissoko, Granier, Coupe, Fofana, Matuidi, Cabya, MaVilla, Gonalons, Chantome, Pogba, Payet, Kongdobia, Guilavogui, Valbuena - just never tried the French market

  113. Well we did but then we signed Diouf, Cheyrou and Diao and we all shouted we never wanted the next back thing from France again :-) But I agree. They have some great players there. I just don't think Sakho is one of them.

  114. Konoplyanka and iarmolenko both rock - they both play for the Ukrainian national team - you'll be seeing a lot of both of them in your Sept 10th World Cup qualifier in Kyiv. It's a very important match and probably decides who's going to win group H.
