Unwanted: BR dumps 'excited' LFC defender. Huge vote of no-confidence...?

Liverpool full-back Jack Robinson is the latest young player to be farmed out on loan during the current transfer window, and given the fact the Reds appear to be actively seeking a new left back, this is a huge slap in the face for the promising youngster.

Rodgers himself admitted recently that he is on the lookout for a new left-back, and in recent weeks, Liverpool have been linked with the likes of Aly Cissokho, Ryan Bertrand and Guilherme Siqueira.

Despite the vacancy, Robinson is on his way to Blackpool for a season-long loan, and whilst that will probably be good for his development, the fact that he is allowed to leave is (IMO) a massive vote of no-confidence in the young defender.

How can can it be seen as anything else? If Rodgers believed in Robinson, he wouldn't be sending him out on loan, especially when Liverpool are actively seeking a need a new left-back. The likes of Raheem Sterling, Jordon Ibe and Andre Wisdom don't appear to be at risk of being sent out on loan, and that's because Rodgers clearly thinks they can cut it in the first team.

How things change: Last year, Robinson received a call-up to the England Under-21 squad for the Euro 2013 play-off against Serbia, something that delighted Rodgers, who enthused:

“Young Jack has been doing very well. He’s had a lot of exposure to the first team as a young player already, but he’s done very well recently and it’s good news for him"

In an interview last season, Robinson vowed to seize his chance to impress:

"As long as I can keep improving in my game and show the manager what I can do then hopefully he'll give me a few more chances. I've got to keep improving and showing people what I'm about, and if I get the chance then I'm sure I can make that position mine one day."

Well, being sent out on loan for a year when the club needs a left-back would seem to suggest that Robinson's chances of making the position his own are very slim indeed.

Discussing the club's transfer policy recently Reds legend Dietmar Hamann pinpointed Robinson as one particular youngster he believes is good enough for a permanent promotion to the first team. He tweeted:

"I really like Jack Robinson, and I think he'll be a regular in the first team before too long"

Robinson may become a regular in the first team, but the likelihood of that happening at Liverpool seems incredibly slim. The harsh reality is that the majority of LFC youngsters who go out on loan ultimately end up on the Anfield scrapheap. When asked about his loan move to Blackpool, Robinson said:

"I'm excited and I can't wait to get in with the boys and start training. Hopefully I can get a place in the starting team and show the fans and everyone what I can do."

Robinson has the right attitude, which is great to see, but I'm sure he'd be more excited about being in Liverpool's first team squad.

  1. Jamie, if we choose to see it in a +'ve way, BR sees him for da future but not dat ready to be challengin for da LB position as yet?

  2. i am all for loaning the young players out gives them game time ,maybe we can loan allen to accrington

    ReplyDelete
  3. Perhaps, but the reality is that the majority of LFC youngsters who go out on loan ultimately end up on the scrap heap.

It's not a case of positive/or negative anyway - it's just reality. Liverpool need a left-back; Robinson IS a left-back; LFC decide he's not good enough to fill the void, and send him away. If I was Robinson, I'd feel pretty slighted.

  4. Exactly my view as well, I just can't put it so gangsterly ;-) if BR wouldn't rate him he would try to sell him, I would suggest he see's something there but not good enough to take the risk, after a season at Blackpool, if he excels, I am sure he will find himself around the first team.

  5. Rodgers probably thinks Robinson is decent, but he doesn't want to rely on him. It's better to have a more experienced back up if Enrique is unavailable.

I'd be happy to have Robinson as 2nd choice left back, but if he's thrown into the team due to injury and doesn't look too good he may never get another chance. Insua was thrown into the team and did okay, but then he was sold even though at the time he was our only left back. Now he is a quality player. Give Robinson some time.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Surely the chance to play week in week out is better for his development & confidence than a place on the bench - at best. I just don't see him as being 1st team ready at this time. And doesn't mean BR sees no future for Jack as he wouldn't give him a contact.

    ReplyDelete
  7. And if he played bad like against oldham you would slate rogers for playing him. We don't know what our finished squad is and we could still see some more kids going on loan. Remember we don't have europa and that's where the kids had most of their starts.

  8. is a left back really our priority ,our main targets at the start of the transfer window where a centerback,we got toure ,and like a said when he signed that could well be it,for that position ,the other 2 prioritys should have been a DM and an out and out striker ,both completley overlooked by the committee, also where was borinni yesterday

  9. Try and sell an unknown young player with practically zero experience at the top level? Who is he going to sell to, and what would be the point (financially speaking?)

As a comparison, consider Jonjo Shelvey: went on loan to Blackpool; banged in a load of goals, and generally played well. Came back to LFC and spent most of his time on the bench; now he's gone. That is Robinson's future.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Absolute nonsense, and totally unfounded. I have never slated a young player for a 'bad' performance, or slated Rodgers for playing young players. The worst I've done is suggest that Raheem Sterling is overrated.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Jamie, Robinson is only 19. Surely there is still plenty of time for him to get into the first team and his loan move to Blackpool is the perfect fit right now. Just like Coady who is at Sheffield United.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Don't think Jack Robinson is good enough frankly. Also have my concerns regarding Cissokho.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I don't deny that there is time for him, but history suggests otherwise. There is no escaping the fact that over the last 10 years, the majority of LFC young players who go out on loan at a similar age end up leaving the club very soon after. There is a reason for that. And again, the bottom line (IMO) is this: LFC need a new left back; if Rodgers in any way thought Robinson could do a job for the team, he'd keep him in the squad, just like he has Sterling, Ibe et al. The Robinson situation is different to Coady, Suso etc because LFC are actively seeking a player in Robinson's position, so sending him away with that in mind adds insult to injury (for him)

    ReplyDelete
  14. I can guarantee you that Rodgers is not after an out and out striker.

He is after versatile forwards so I think our fans need to get rid of the idea of us needing an out and out striker...

    ReplyDelete
  15. i agree we are putting him in the shop window, but he could have a blinding season and earn himself a stay of execution

    ReplyDelete
  16. i say we need an out and out striker, and i will not get rid of the idea, was ian rush versatile

    ReplyDelete
  17. You are not our manager so it is only your opinion that we need an out and out striker.

    ReplyDelete
  18. There are plenty of teams we could sell to in the lower leagues. We sell our youngsters to lower level clubs all the time.

Jonjo is a good example that proves my point. He went out on loan, did well, got a chance in the first team, didn't cut it then was sold. I suggest the fact Robbo hasn't been sold is a good indication that BR sees something in him and wants to give him a good chance

    ReplyDelete
  19. Maybe the coaching staff do not think Robinson is fully ready yet. Like i said he is only 19.

Unless we sold him then we cannot assume that Rodgers wants to get rid of him.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Of course, that is a possibility, but in situations like this, I prefer to look at historical evidence, and read between the lines. Robinson is a goner.

    ReplyDelete
  21. But alot of people have slated young players for bad performances, Coates isn't exactly old however he's already been written off by the majority of our fans despite some great performances all be it along side some poor ones.

    ReplyDelete
  22. but if he has proven he can perform well at that level it bumps up the price

    ReplyDelete
  23. Not only that, look at the ages of the purported replacements: Malgarejo at 22 years, Cissokho at 25 and Siqueira at 27 - one for now and one for the future. Enrique looks like he's staying put (despite some rumblings of a departure some weeks back). Not sure how Jack Robinson fits into this picture. The fact he is a home grown player probably gives him a slim chance.

    ReplyDelete
  24. ha ha i thought you said hes a gooner,so thats who the£40,000001 bid was for

    ReplyDelete
  25. Good point re Siqueira - extra insult to injury.

    ReplyDelete
  26. To oldham I heard they are pretty strong ;)

    ReplyDelete
  27. mansfield are not to shabby either ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  28. But that is you opinion.

If Rodgers was after an out and out striker then he would not have signed Aspas who can play left, right and center whenever required to.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Whatever Allen did pretty well this preseason, whatever we lack a goalscoring midfielder - and thks is definitely a target, but we missed out on our main target and ill be freaking mad if we c'ant find someone else ..

    ReplyDelete
  30. i know its my opinion i do not profess to speak for brendan rodgers, and can not guarantee anything;-)

    ReplyDelete
  31. But that is why opinions differ otherwise we would not be having this discussion. I never said you are wrong! Right now none of us are right or wrong because all we can do right now is speculate and give our opinions.

He is still a Liverpool player.

    ReplyDelete
  32. i doubt very much we will see much more activerty in this window even if we sell suarez a lot of the major names who we had a chance of signing have already moved, and if suarez dose go i doubt we will have time to look for targets, imo it could well end up being another season were we do not close the gap

    ReplyDelete
  33. That is why I love the fantasy league :)

    ReplyDelete
  34. I know opinions differ. I haven't suggested otherwise. I never understand why people feel the need to state the obvious during a discussion. Obviously all we can do now is speculate. My point is that people only make statements like that when they disagree with the contention being made.

If I'd posted an article containing views you agreed with, you wouldn't be saying 'none of us are right or wrong because all we can do right now is speculate and give our opinions'.

    ReplyDelete
  35. No matter how much potential a player displays, if they aren't ready for regular first team action, then what is the point in benching them, when getting games would help them develop? If the player takes being loaned out as a slight, then they aren't mentally tough enough to succeed at a top Premier league club. If this boy is quality, he will thrive out on loan. If not then the chaff has been separated.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Robinson is only young and cannot be relied upon at this stage to carry the position for long if Enrique was to get injured early.
This is not to say if he performs very well on loan he wont get a chance to shine at some stage before any decisions are made to sell or not.

    ReplyDelete
  37. i dont sit on the fence coates isnt good enough and robinson isnt.....sterling may well make it but is overrated and i think wisdom is the real deal

    ReplyDelete
  38. pre season is a million miles from the prem

    ReplyDelete
  39. hes not good enough for liverpool...why do people have such a hard time saying it..there's no shame....for once i agree with rogers there is no point keeping players who will not make the first team..imo if there not good enough at 19 or 20 or show the correct potential adios

    ReplyDelete
  40. We will see, lets hope FSG give Brendan some money because he clearly promised us 2 1st team marquee players, and if that doesn't happen i will double my doubts about Rodgers

    ReplyDelete
  41. why shouldn't young player get slated if he plays bad....these are pros at a big club on big money shape up or ship out....its a game of football if you cant kick a ball kick them out

    ReplyDelete
  42. Didn't get this

    ReplyDelete
  43. i feel slighted that i never played pro football or was an astronaut...but hey that the way the cookie crumbles

    ReplyDelete

  44. Hi Jaimie, can you go as far as saying Robinson will never make it back to the first team?

    ReplyDelete
  45. If he was good enough, he'd be staying. Don't think he's helped himself with his fiestyness though, I remember him telling Suarez to f-off after he took the ball and blasted wide, think Suarez was in a goal scoring position at the time lol

    ReplyDelete
  46. I can only give my personal opinion, and that is that Robinson will be gone within two years. He'll probably return from his loan and sit on the bench a few times, but first team regular? The odds are against it:

    * LFC have Enrique, who is a first team LB.
    * Glen Johnson also covers there sometimes.
    * If LFC sign a new LB this summer, he will stay at the club for at least a few years (unless he flops.
    * Enrique will probably leave at some stage in the next 2-3 years, at which point LFC will need another first team LB.
    * Will they turn to Robinson? No chance (IMO). The club will just sign someone else.

Of course, I could be wrong - Robinson may take Blackpool by storm, return to Anfield and become a superstar LB. If that happens, great, but I can't see it.

    ReplyDelete
  47. After early promise, especially against Arsenal, when he first arrived on the scene, he looked like he would become a top full back, but since then he's faded. Imo,When it comes to loan deals out, the majority of the time it spells the end of your liverpool career, under Rodgers.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Great conclusion at the end seeing that Rodgers has only been with the club for one season! Clearly you have a gripe with the man.

    ReplyDelete
  49. you stated allen has done well preseason...im just saying that really doesn't mean anything compared to playing against prem opposition

    ReplyDelete
  50. the only marquee youll see at liverpool is the one with firesale all stock must go written on it

    ReplyDelete
  51. thats why i love fantasy island da plane da plane

    ReplyDelete
  52. I gather you understand what I meant with fantasy league ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  53. Rodgers did not use the word 'marquee'.

He said he was going to sign players to improve the team.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Ah yeah understood :)
Yep it was only preseason and we only played teams that are levels above. And I said we still lack a lot in midfield, we will see who comes in, who's going and yeah its not a long time to the stoke game, and I fear the result.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Whatever he said the big ones are still comming

    ReplyDelete
  56. What are big ones?

Improving the team could mean improving on a player like Downing. It does not mean we are going to blow 40 million on one player.

    ReplyDelete
  57. i dont think nei is having a pop at rogers ..i think its a pretty good assesment of robinson

    ReplyDelete
  58. Of course you would say you do not think he is having a pop at BR. You never do, do you?

    ReplyDelete
  59. Did I ever say that? I don't want our team to buy overrated players for inflated prices. He said the signings until yet are to improve the squad, the next will improve the first 11. IMO this first eleven isnt good enough for a top 4 place, top 4. should be the target that means we should stenghen the team to be strong enough to challenge for 4th spot. Until yet our net spend is close to 0, so I'm waiting for further additions that improve the team.

I'm just hoping he sticks to his words.

    ReplyDelete
  60. the big ones are players that improve our starting 11 directly. I'm afraid we will only sign new players if suarez gets sold ...

    ReplyDelete
  61. He is just not good enough... I didn't see any real progress from him ever since his promising debut against Arsenal... Some players have potential, but they may just never be good enough... Like Shelvey... Same thing for Flanagan...

    ReplyDelete
  62. i agree he did state it was time for marque signings

    ReplyDelete
  63. Net spend is such a yesterday story! One would have thought it left with Benitez!

When Spurs sell Bale to Madrid their net spend will probably show that they have spent nothing for the last three seasons! I really struggle to understand this mentality.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Dont see anything wrong with this move. Is he a good enough player to provide cover when we are challenging for top 4?(hopefully) Has he got enough potential to be one day LFCs first choice LB?
For me the answer is no to both. Nothing against the lad, he's a grafter, but i dont think he has the talent for that level.

This loan move may by a slap in the face (i prefer reality check myself) for the youngster, but which is worse? Should we let him play reserve football for another year?
This way he will get more chances to showcase his talent, liverpool get a chance to see where his level is for competitive football, and increase theselling value of a player, who had he rotted in the reserves, would have very little interest from other clubs.

I do think this is the end of robinso n not everbody can play for LFC.
Good honest player though and i hope he has a top season at bpool and gets plenty of interest next season.

    ReplyDelete
  65. im actually defending rogers for shipping out robinson

    ReplyDelete
  66. I don't think he's good enough but hopefully the loan will do him some good.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Uhh,
You probably have a point there, but IMO we haven't really strengthen our team until yet. Mignolet and Kolo are good replscements and apart from aspas maybe our team isn't much stronger. Yeah it isn't all about net spend or how much we spend, but I personally think (as I already said) we will struggle to get in the top 4 like last year, probably managing 6th place getting in carlingcup final maybe. We will have the same problems again, suarez is out for a long time sturridge will get injured again borini without any presence on the field, leaves us with 1striker that is completely new here nearly no goals from midfield. If we don't bring in new players we will probably have to rely on a constantly not-exciting downing and a burn out overhyped teenager on the wings.

About the tottenham example: they have already bought quality players, and if they sell bale they won't mind spend some more on a quality winger...
I don't think the same applies to us, I'm afraid we won't sign anyone new without selling suarez, and if new signings don't come in then trust me we wont be anywhere near to the 4th spot, but its fine as long as we improved from 7th to 6th place

    ReplyDelete
  68. rogers definition of big one is any player over 5 foot 7

    ReplyDelete
  69. that's a fair assessment......but max wont think so....sometimes you have to speculate to accumulate suarez cost 20 odd million for a reason hes good ....if we can pick up players to improve the team for 5 m, great but sometimes you need to spend more

    ReplyDelete
  70. A loan for a young player - isn't that always a good thing? It allows Robinson to get a lot of first team experience, he will come back stronger in all aspects. BR had to rely on to many teenagers last season, and they did pretty well, but were inconsistent. Consistency is the key word this season, that's why BR wants to get more experience in. Nothing is wrong with that move IMO

    ReplyDelete
  71. It is great that you have such a negative outlook on things.

    Keep it up!

    ReplyDelete
  72. Sturridge and Coutinho cost 12 and 8 million respectively.

Sturridge was like a cat being swung by the tail. Most said he was going to be a waste of money.

Coutinho is a cheap player. If he was playing for another team like he did last season we would have paid much more than 8 million.

It is not about how much you pay for a player. It is about finding the right player to fit into the team.

Aspas is another example of this but obviously you will disagree with that too.

So your point was what exactly?

    ReplyDelete
  73. Well they havent sold him so rather than adios, it is i hope to see you later at this stage.
U are right it is no shame to say players just are not good enough but potential at his age needs to be explored further and he has earned that right.

    ReplyDelete
  74. sometimes you have to splash out on quality....i have always ratted sturridge but hes always injured...tino will be marked tighter this year..ans aspa in unproven in the prem

    ReplyDelete
  75. But Aspas is the type of player Rodgers is looking for and he will definitely score and create goals this season.

    Mark my words :-)

    ReplyDelete
  76. Your further post is removed or whatever so I will answer you here: Pff max, we won't ever meet each other on the same point of view... You may be right I may be right, as you said its only speculation and It is really.
Its my opinion, if we don't strenghen our squad any more we won't challenge for top4, eventho I think this year would be the perfect year to invest some money and push forward for a CL place... Tottenham for example is spending money without having bale sold (until yet) and they will buy a replacement for bale if they really sell him. I fear we won't do so, waiting for suarez to get sold, and then try to buy a replacement at the last day of the window.... Were running out of options IMO. If you can't live with my opinion (doesn't matter if its negative or realistic or whatever) why did you even start to reply my posts?

    ReplyDelete
  77. Aspas is a good player agreed

    ReplyDelete
  78. I never said I can't live with your opinion. This is a chat site after all.

You are looking at failure already before the window has closed and even before the season has ended.

Have some faith, even if it is just a teaspoon full.

    ReplyDelete
  79. I always have faith mate, but I'm getting impatient

    ReplyDelete
  80. Enrique is not good enough for a first choice left back. His decision making and distribution are questionable at best and I hope LB is one of the areas Rodgers sees as requiring improvement.

    ReplyDelete
  81. I think they want a left back who can challenge Enrique for his position now and they may think Robinson is at a stage where he needs more game time.

Sterling, Ibe and Wisdom don't or didn't have much competition for their preferred places when they broke into the team

    ReplyDelete
  82. Robinson will take Enrique's place as no. 2 LB in a season or two and We'll get a decent fee for Jose

    ReplyDelete
  83. I would say there are a couple of mitigating factors which would lead one to think that this is not a write off for Robbos LFC career.

    1) as a defender it's much more important to be starting and playing full games to develop. You need to gain understanding with rest of the back four and your positonal play it critical. Making sub appearances doesn't aid you that much, and there's no such thing as an impact sub in defence! Contrast that with Ibe, or Sterling, who can spend the whole season improving by coming off the bench as an impact player, tactical naivity is less likely to harm the team for the attacking positions. Therefore the comparisons to BR not loaning out Ibe etc are not as valid an argument as they first appear.

    2) I think his fate will be sealed by the nature of the eventual LB signing we do make. To date the strongest rumours there are the Benfica lad and Sissokho. Both rumours are stated clearly as loan deals. If BR doesn't fancy Robbo for the future, I would expect a permanent signing...as it is a loan for these two rumoured I think this points to them being a stopgap for this season, with hope that Jack comes back and picks up the rols in 14/15 after a season of playing most weeks.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Cheers! Taken me bloody hours to write it as massively hungover...might have to have a lie down now.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Your views are always negative and any chance you get to have a dig at BR your straight in with your unsupportive opinions, let the manager do his job and get behind him and you do your job and stop being one sided and so downbeat all the time, save your criticism for manure or those who deserve it .

EVERY CLUB sends young players out on loan, he isn't up to first team for us yet. And he doesn't push erinque for first team so it's was best for him to go on loan.

    ReplyDelete
  87. The only young fullback we have i see breaking into the first team is RYAN McLAUGHLIN.I think within a couple of seasons JOHNSON will slowly be fazed out of first team action and this kid will take his place.

    ReplyDelete
  88. I don't see it that way, honestly on my personal opinion jack isn't good enought for the first 11 or bench,BR did the right move mate.

    ReplyDelete
  89. i hatejamiekanwar4:11 pm, August 04, 2013

the players you claimed liverpool are linked with are made up stories from priicks like you

    ReplyDelete
  90. Very good point about us being linked with LB loan signings. If that's what happens then maybe yes their is a future for him at anfield. But still my gut says no.

    ReplyDelete
  91. I believe loaning kids to the championship great for their development. The championship is a great deal more physical and the facilities are not as pristine as Melwood. Robinson would not have played much this season, so shipping him off to loan is way better than letting him play liverpool reserves.

    ReplyDelete
  92. He's been loaned out as he's in need of games. The lad has played only 22 first team games. 11 of them were for Wolves and his last game for the 1st team was the shambles at Oldham, where he was poor. The lad needs games to develop as he isn't yet ready for the 1st team. As for there being no sign of Andre Wisdom going on loan I don't know how you missed this www.dailypost.co.uk/sport/football-news/andre-wisdom-hope-can-games-5150921
The article mentions Wigan as a possible destination whereas on June 18th the Mirror's Alan Nixon claimed Fulham wanted Wisdom on loan. Www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/liverpool-transfers-andre-wisdom-wanted-1960887.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Suarez was a GONNER the minute Henry saw him bite

    ReplyDelete
  94. Robinson is currently not good enough for the 1st team full stop. Going out on loan for the season can ONLY be a good thing no matter how negatively you want to report it

    ReplyDelete
  95. I don't know what you are smoking but there is no way that he will dislodge Enrique this season so that means he will either play in the reserves or sit on the bench and that isn't good enough at 21 he has to play to develop Ibe is 16 -17 I think so he can develop in the reserves play the odd senior game if needed if he was 21 he would be out on Loan a good young prospect isn't what Liverpool need in the first team they need to have an international in ever position and one challenging the player with the shirt youngster need to be top top draw to play for a top 4 team look at Barca and R Madrid they have youngsters all over the place bought loaned back or loaned out or even sold with a buy back clause it wont do the lad any harm at all to go on loan if he shines he is back and in the first team squad if he doesn't he is moved on as has always been the case

    ReplyDelete
  96. Who cares! He simply hasn't shown enough quality for first team football!
If reports are true, Cissokho will be at Liverpool anyway!

    ReplyDelete
  97. Shock - Horror!! A young player going out on loan to get first team football? Must mean he's on the way out!! - don't be stupid! Robinson is going to get the experience of first team football, which is better than sitting in the reserves for another year. Enrique is the first choice right now but needs to be pushed and challenged for his spot, IMO Robinson is not yet at the level to push Enrique for the position so this makes sense. Getting another LB is sensible, Enrique gets the competition he needs ( and cover if he gets injured / suspended), the squad gets stronger and Robinson gets minutes on the pitch. This can only be good news for LFC.

    ReplyDelete
  98. But if he really is not good enough, we shouldn't care if he feels slighted or not.

    ReplyDelete
  99. You could be right but may just be jumping the gun if Robinson were to play his socks off at Blackpool and Coady were to fail dismally the shoe could be on the other foot.
Suso on the other hand has shown enough at the top level already to suggest he has a future.

    ReplyDelete
  100. He's rubbish and will never be good enough for LFC. Last season he had a shot from a ridiculously acute angle rather than squaring the ball to Suarez who was in a far better position. Suarez shouted at him and Robinson started giving it back. At these points you hold your hand up and admit the mistake, you don't start shouting down a world class first team player.
    Good riddance!

  101. I disagree. Suarez should treat fellow players with respect. He didn't in this case, and deserved to get a mouthful back. So what if Robinson didn't pass. Big deal. Lots of players don't pass sometimes, and Suarez is the biggest offender. Doesn't give him the right to embarrass a young, inexperienced player like that. Good on Robinson for giving Suarez a taste of his own medicine.
