In November 2012, the Agent of Vitesse Arnhem star Wilfried Bony confirmed that Liverpool had held talks with the striker over a possible January transfer. Brendan Rodgers ended up signing Daniel Sturridge instead, but it appears that the club has reignited its interest in the Ivory Coast international
In October 2012, Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf reported:
"Wilfried Bony wants to leave the Eredivisie to play in the English Premier League. Liverpool scouts came to watch Bony. They want him".
Soon after, Bony's Agent, Dalimor Traore, confirmed the story when he told Reporters:
"Liverpool are one of the clubs who have been considering him. We have been in talks with them. It is clear that Bony has attracted interest due to his good performances and consistency.
Today, The Mirror claims:
"Swansea have stepped up their bid to land striker Wilfried Bony with an improved package worth £13.7million [€15m]. Vitesse are holding out as Liverpool, Everton and West Ham have all expressed interest in the striker"
Bony is definitely leaving, and his Agent confirmed this last night:
"One thing is for sure, he [Bony] will not be playing for Vitesse this season."
Bony is already well-known at Anfield - he came for trial in 2007, but Rafa Benitez decided not to move ahead with a deal. The Ivorian's stats for last season are formidable:
* 31 goals/8 assists in 30 league games.
* Goal every 85 minutes.
* Goal/Assist every 67 minutes.
Goal or assist every 67 minutes? That's absolutely superb, though to be fair, scoring a shedload of goals in the Eredivisie doesn't always mean the same will automatically happen in the Premier League.
Arsenal striker Gervinho is convinced, however, that his fellow countryman can make it in England. He told ESPN in April:
“Wilfried is hot at the moment. He has shown his talent and he is consistent, and he is currently one of the best centre forwards in Europe. I can see why he’s pulling interest from a number of top sides. Wilfried knows how to hit goals and he nets them even with the smallest chances. I wish he lands a deal with a great club in the summer.”
Should Liverpool try and hijack Swansea's move...?

A seriously good option IF Suarez was sold, not the greatest touch for me but he know's where the goal is, a totally different player. I still don't see Suarez going at all, certainly not for less than £40m anyway!!!.
ReplyDeleteThink we need either Mkhitarayan or Eriksen first, Mkhitarayan is not dead yet as BVB can't agree a fee with Shakhtar, anything could still happen there!!!
Prolific striker - however cant see how he would fit into the style of play BR wants from the team - and anyway do we need another forward?! Until Suarez goes I don't see this area as priority - looks as though a flexible AM and a DEF is next according to the man himself.... And anyway Ngoos back!!!
ReplyDeleteIF Suarez goes this window then I would like to see a px for higuain - come on we all l know that's why he's stalling on the arse/juve lol! Let me dream!
bvb have offered more than we have if we have bid at all,and as for boney cannot really say but we may have a chance looking at the competition to sign him,i cannot believe we have come to the level of swansea west ham and everton
ReplyDeleteyes lets sign another am we need one lol
ReplyDeleteSo close yet so far with Mickey - one minute he's ours then he's Dortmunds lol! I've gone back to watching eriksen clips on YouTube again, and telling myself hes young and should be our 1st choice to soften the inevitable blow!
ReplyDeleteI really would go for wanyama or a holding mid over an AM ATM - feel that we have enough forward thinking players (albeit not all experienced) but we lack a physical presence in the heart of midfield to challenge Lucas
ReplyDeleteIt will be interesting to see where Allen slots in next season...
ReplyDeleteWhy the F isn't Ayre over there sealing the deal right now??!
ReplyDeleteShould put in a bid.... looks like Mkhitaryan off the menu! So sign Ericsson-13 million. And bony for 13 million plus add ons.
ReplyDeleteJas I think we finished very well from xmas onwards, scoring 71 goals in the PL. That was amazing when you consider we couldn't hit a barn door early on?, we were 4th in the form table from xmas. If the lads BR has brought in settle well, It could be happy days???, Borini looks very sharp since is injuries killed his season and Allen has to do much better.
ReplyDeleteMkhitarayan is not dead but Eriksen would be awesome too, At least FSG are in the hunt for good player's that is positive, It's a starting point. We have plenty of time to get the squad right, Im not concerned at all. I trust BR to get it right but patience is key, I thought the fans were great to him last season putting no pressure on him. That will not be the case this season however, now he needs to start well and get into the top 6 early on and hang around until xmas, then look at the transfer market again.
The football got better as the season rolled out, teams started to fear playing us. We really battered some teams, sometimes without getting the desired result, when we clicked we looked the business................we are Liverpool and we expect the world, RIGHTLY SO TOO!!!
What a talent he is, It would be very nice of FSG to deliver either player!!
ReplyDeleteGet him! He knows where the goal is & at that price value for money!
ReplyDeleteThis guy just seems like an Ivorian Andy Carroll. Why would we want him with BR's style of play?
ReplyDeleteAndy Carroll can't run Bony is far more athletic & prolific in front of goal!
ReplyDeletethe more this transfer window drags on the more i will be pleased with anyone
ReplyDeletei just cannot fathom out why we did not go for more expeience and try and push on ,i hope we are not expected to settle for another adjusting season
ReplyDeleteNo, you have it wrong mate.
ReplyDeleteWe need to pay 25 million for Eriksen and then those who want a marquee signing will be appeased :-o
maybe you shoud ask fsg
ReplyDeleteon the bench if rodgers starts him over henderson in the opener and the result goes pearshaped again ,rodgers will only have himself to blame if he loses his job
ReplyDeleteImportant to add, only if Saurez leaves!
ReplyDeleteAnother peanut gallery comment :-)
ReplyDeleteno m8 we have to pay the going rate ,they is no point offering 5million if you know dam well another club is going to offer 10
ReplyDeleteThank goodness you are not in charge of our transfers!
ReplyDeleteso you think allen earned a starting place
ReplyDeleteNo it is just your whole comment that is laughable.
ReplyDeleteif the club want 20million you pay it if the player is class or someone else dose, its pritty simple really ,i said as soon as we where linked to hk if the deal did not happen quickly we would lose out ,because another club would come calling
ReplyDeleteDrags on.....? Its open *6* days,I mean seriously
ReplyDeletewhat is lauthable if rodgers continually picks a lesser player over the better player ,and the results go against him,he should be sacked,or do you think it dose not matter hes just starting out on his masterplan
ReplyDeleteThe deal is not that simple.
ReplyDeleteDo not get involved in discussion you have no knowledge about. ;-)
The guy is OK in the Eresdivisie. I think it is a gamble though taking him to a wanna be top 4 side in the EPL. He could fit the NO 9 role in Liverpool's 4-2-3-1 style though. Given Sturridge being injured more often than not, and prone to losing focus a really good striker is needed. For the 10-15M bracket of available players he looks an option worth considering. It must be said there aren't many proven young players in that bracket though!
ReplyDeletedo you seriously think we will have anything to look forward to,more likely to lose our better players than we are of signing some imo
ReplyDeleteIf you watched that video you wouldn't be able to compare him to Andy
ReplyDeleteAllen will slot in right back in the 2 part of the 4-2-3-1 formation we're likely to play quite a bit. He is a sea of skills ahead of Hendo. It's laughable so many ppl doesnt rate the man. Have they got no clue about football? If a wider system will be used he has to prove more as the season goes on, especially creatively.
ReplyDeletego play with the traffic your starting to piss me right off, talking down to people thinking you know everthing, and everyone else is wrong
ReplyDeletei hope you get the message
ReplyDeletei see a few prem clubs are starting to bid on rhodes better option imo
ReplyDeleteI am quite surprised that you managed to spell masterplan! Only thing is that it consists of two words.
ReplyDeleteMaster plan.
Well we have a net spend of about £2M and history proves FSG have always supplied BR with money to spend to by that reasoning we still have a good £20m to spend, but lets be honest for a second no matter what you'll be pessimistic at every opportunity you get.
ReplyDeleteHe will be our marquee signing. Lets bid 40 million on him to make you happy!
ReplyDeleteI am blind, I cannot see it.
ReplyDeletehe dose not slot in on what basis the results do not lie when he was not on the pitch we played better, also henderson out scored and out assited all in the league, saying that so did agger skertal ,johnson and enrique
ReplyDeleteget a life
ReplyDeleteHes a cheaper alternative to Benteke so I see a fair reason to get him
ReplyDeleteI'd love for us to get Bony, but as other clubs are bidding I can't see us competing. If Swansea do get him, they'll have a pretty good chance of finishing above us next season.
ReplyDeleteIf we don't start actually start buying our main transfer targets, instead of leaving it to the last minute like last season, I can see us finishing mid-table.
7th last season with the best striker in the league = a train wreck of a season ahead without some serious purchases.
do not bore me with any fsg ar$e licking again post it to someone whos interested
ReplyDelete*Evil laugh*
ReplyDeleteSeriously, if you rate Henderson ahead of Allen you really got a problem. Sorry.
ReplyDeleteyou may well be blind because you comedy certainly needs brushing up
ReplyDeleteI was just trying to get you attention.
ReplyDeleteswansea and hull for starters
ReplyDeleteBecause Ayre is a cretin. No bids on any of our main targets yet...
ReplyDeleteSame old story.
Eriksen? The lad is trying to sell himself to every single club on the planet. Not sure if thats what we need right now. For the attacking midfield options I would definitely say Marek Hamsik would be a steal. He has been very good over time, scoring, assisting and playing clever attacking football. Dimitri Payet of Lille is another in the same bracket. Pizzi, Yohan Mollo, Max Kruse and Carlos Vela would be much better options too. i'd even want to buy young Koke of Atletico Madrid ahead of that danish wanna be dynamite.
ReplyDeletenot at all i would hardly call him a marque signing 10 or 12 million should do it
ReplyDeleteBore you with facts? Please....give me a break....And just so you know Im dont exactly like FSG but unlike you I'll criticise when its due,you criticise for the hell of it
ReplyDeleteYou cant tell me you are interested in 'cheap' players...
ReplyDeleteget ready to be shot down we have made four serious purchases allready ;-)
ReplyDeletedon,t waste your time
ReplyDeleteOh really? Really? Its okay for them to go for Rhodes but when its another player they're after we're lowering ourselves to 'their level'....... Im done here
ReplyDeleteAnd Rhodes is going to get us into the top 4?
ReplyDeleteI have heard it all now!
iam interest in any player if i think he could help the club rhodes as done it at all levels why can he not step up again
ReplyDeletei did not lower the standards i am just following the kind of target we seem to be interested in
ReplyDeleteYou are talking about Jordan Rhodes right?
ReplyDeletei never said that did i but imo he would be a dam site better than some of the dross we are linked to
ReplyDelete*Evil laugh*
ReplyDeletewell not johnty
ReplyDeletehand sign
ReplyDeleteNeed to remember that next season we will be without the best player in the league.
ReplyDeleteThe Mkhitarayan deal is dead. We didn't even bid. Eriksen is good, but wont get us the goals from midfield that BR is after.
We still need a left-back, holding midfielder, goal-scoring midfielder, centre-back and a striker or 2. And we are yet to bid on anyone in those positions.
Swansea, Everton, West Ham and maybe even Saints will be much improved next season and we'll be competing with them for 5th-10th.
you do it your way i will do it mine ,and some day you may think i was right all along,i hope i am wrong by the way
ReplyDeleteWhatever Jase,I didn't know 'our level' are newly promoted sides....
ReplyDeletei voted that we would be 6th
ReplyDeleteoff topic after the success of channel 4's the man with the 10 stone testicles there will now be a showabout coleen rooney. the women with a 15 stone cunt !!
ReplyDeletejackson martinez and wanyama from the saurez sale would do me nicely, just a taught.
ReplyDeletewell i must have a problem .i hear people say hes great mainly rodgers but i have not seen it,and if you asked the fans who was the better player last season i think you may be shocked
ReplyDeleterude hand sign
ReplyDeleteWhy have we lost out to BVB with MK.?. if reports are to be believed we never made a bid in the first place! What type of half arsed people are doing the negotiations?Ayre should be brought to account or the explanation should be put in the public domain!!!!!! I agree with Carra71 that Hendo before Allen every time, if Allen gets an opportunity he should prove his quality before he is given an auto place!!,
ReplyDeleteI am really with you on the Marek Hamsik signing if that happens. I haven't see much of others but Hamsik is over shadowed by Cavani but then he's the creator of those goals and with 17 assists and 11 goals I think its a superb return for an attacking midfielder.
ReplyDeleteNah Jase I'll never think you were right...because FSG have done some good things but you fail to acknowledge them
ReplyDeleteRafa is going to modify Hamsik into a defensive midfielder :-o
ReplyDeleteLets rescue Hamsik while we can!
YES THEY HAVE ALL OUT OF THE GOODNESS OF THEIR HEART
ReplyDeleteI wish that we really get him but then we might go for some Tom, Dick & Harry that we don't know.
ReplyDeleteIf we never made a bid in the first place, maybe your anger should be directed at the press. If Ayre and Liverpool weren`t in for him, how can you be angry at him for not doing the deal quicker?
ReplyDeletemasterchef
ReplyDeleteI think we should not go for anymore strikers until we sell one TBH. I think Strootman or Wanyama or Rakitic can do the holding mid-field work we're looking for. I hope we do get HK and he forces Shakhtar to sell himself to us.
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to write the same thing. If the Daily Mail wrote the world was filled with chocolate, quite a few people would start eating it.
ReplyDeletethe world is full of chocolate try it from your local shop, loads of people eat it;-)
ReplyDeletethat would be fine but you could not snipe at suarez if he did the same ,not saying you have sniped at suarez
ReplyDeleteI meant, and wrote, that the world, the planet itself, was filled with chocolate, not shops on the surface on it selling chocolate.
ReplyDeletey nt kaka shuld try him as an second striker or AM we did get him for cut price deal too.
ReplyDeletesorry m8 i would have put made of chocolate lol each to there own no offence
ReplyDeleteaccording to SKY TV tonight "the agent would not let LFC speak to HM" not easy to negotiate if you can't get to your man in the same room or on the telephone.
ReplyDeletewe are doomed
ReplyDeleteDecant player would prefer doumbia if we going african ... on a different note any1 Watching spain u20? once again not impressed with dele and jese olivier best player on the park suso putting in another great shift want him to come more central hate it when the push him on the wing . Should be dictating the play!!!
ReplyDeleteI don't think he is BR kind of player. I would like to pay 10mn more and get Benteke
ReplyDeleteLol I know where you're coming from :D
ReplyDeletedo you know his wages?
ReplyDeleteAdem Ljajic is a young prospect. He is currently in Fiorentina. Yet another modern, dynamic attacking midfielder. Pretty sure theyre comfy selling Jovetic who has a big name when this guy is about to pop up. Excellent stats, and looks solid from what I can see. There are great young players out there, and we do seem to be in contention for a few. Just got to develop them.. Unfortunately, that means no Champions League next season either most likely :(
ReplyDeletehaha, i spilled my coffee reading that one!
ReplyDeleteHamsik has a pass completion rate of over 83% which is pretty decent given he is roaming around in the final third. It must also be said he can mix his passing up a lot. He can do the short pass, the long pass and the defence splitting one. He dribbles well, and is integral when it comes to the turnover from defence to attack (Just like BR likes them). Letting this guy play with Sturridge, Couthino, Gerrard and if we're lucky; Suarez I'm pretty sure it would be quite close to amazing.
ReplyDeleteSky news germany have reported, we've matched BVB offer for Mkhitaryan.
ReplyDeleteHe old and past it.
ReplyDeleteYou are arent you? Lol.
ReplyDeleteA marquee signing could be a free transfer! You should know that. Its who you get. Not how much you spend.
ReplyDeleteWhere exactly did I say that? Please provide a quote of it....yes they're a business and of course they and to make a profit, they are a business at the end of the day
ReplyDeleteWhatever.....
ReplyDeleteheard that too, let's hope its true and he wants to come.
ReplyDeleteBuying another keeper for £10 million and saying its competition is strange considering your list of needed players and lack of money then?
ReplyDeleteI remember when we signed torres as a marquee. What a buzz that gave everyone back then. Thats what we need; a top player, to make people take notice and see were not a spent force. And less of the promosing(lol) gambles. Like assaiadi and allen.
ReplyDeletestevie g said in an interview the other day we need champs league football so that tells us the target BR has set 4 next season. he's also not ruled out goin 4 the title! wi all the changes in the PL i think only chelsea look stronger than us. best chance in years 2 add no 19!
ReplyDeleteYou have inside info that BVB have offered more, or is that guess, state your source, let me guess, its The Sun, right,?
ReplyDeleteWhat is the point of a free signing?
ReplyDeleteYou will just be complaining about net spend again.
It is a no win situation for FSG!
No we won't.
ReplyDeleteSKY GERMANY: LFC match BVB offer for Mkhitarayan!!!!................It's upto the player now???
ReplyDeleteI rather think that we won't go for Bony and Swansea will. That way he will turn out to be another purchase for them like Michu and become " a find " that the rest of us wonder why we didn't see it !
ReplyDeleteno way Liverpool can afford Hamsik. He is a player on the champions league wage bracket. Playing for a team that is one of the best teams in Italy. If Liverpool can't afford Mlkitaran they obviously can't afford Hamsik.
ReplyDeleteNobody said we can't afford Mkhitaryan. We are just not willing to pay over the odds.
ReplyDeleteDortmund have even had their bids rejected.
Napoli better hope they are one of the best teams in Italy next season. Remeber what happened to Inter when Rafa was the manager there?
Michael Laudrup actually wanted to sign Aspas and Rodgers beat him to that one.
ReplyDeleteMichu has it all to prove in his second season in the League. Then we will only know if he was "a find".
I have to agree on this one. Allen has shown exceptional ability at passing 3 metres sideways and backwards. Hendo has the stamina to defend and attack, scored a few, set up a few and always puts a shift in. Allen hopefully will have recovered from injury and knuckle down and show us what game he has. Looking at performances , hendo was better overall. That's all there is to it based on that.
ReplyDeleteThink thats the truth too Garyy. Pizzi of Deportivo La Coruna, aged 23 could be something more along the lines of what we can afford (and the right age too). Max Kruse of Freiburg is just 25 though and would be more of a package. Probably wont sell him on the cheap either though.
ReplyDeleteAlso wondering why no bigger clubs are picking up Payet of Lille. He's 26 now and for me he's been massive in Ligue 1. Sure, he is dispossessed a little bit to often, but besides that the guy is all action in the final third.
agree and he should start allen as to earn his place
ReplyDeleteyou right m8 it gives everyone a lift and sends out the right signals would it not be great to sign hk and keep suarez ,i would go into next season thinking top 4 is possible
ReplyDeletebut a lot of posters have double standards
ReplyDeleteagree m8 if we sign hk keep suarez and add another couple of players ,i think we could get top four easy ,and after that who knows
ReplyDeleteexcept his club have not excepted bvb,s offer
ReplyDeleteStrootman would be a dream signing, abit unrealistic tho as he would want champ football and they seem keen to hold onto him and his also strongly linked to utd! Think celtic are seriously over valuing wanyama good player but far from complete his tech ability is shocking .. 6mil tops ! Rakitic is not a holding mid he will add no physically presence which we require , would rather go for banega who can put strong tackles in reads the game well aswell as supreme technical ability.. ( saw on sky he is linked with Southampton)
ReplyDeleteI think it would be really good for the Premier League if Swansea can push through and get Bony, and Southampton pick up those players they're supposedly targetting this summer, to play alongside their existing signings.
ReplyDeleteLFC needs to pull their finger out if they really want to make big steps forward this season though.
The chance to sign Martinez has come and gone. He'd probably cost as much to buy, if not more, from Porto now, as we'd get for Suarez
ReplyDeleteI don't like to talk about 'statments of intent' but I really do agree that a 'big' signing is required this summer, especially with the changes going on elsewhere.
ReplyDeleteWe're all getting so excited about quickly signing a couple of rejects and reserves, convinced that these moves will get us shifting up the table, whereas the other top clubs are picking up players that are at a minimum equally as talented, but more proven...
Please try to capture Mkhitarayan first and then Eriksen and W Bony.
ReplyDeleteiam not getting excited;-)
ReplyDeletehe will be good for 6 games then on bench him and Borini will have same impact nothing but Rodgers will play them cause it will reflect bad on him cause he wanted them badly that's how they were last year bad
ReplyDeleteJust can't get over the fact we screwed the Mkhitaryan transfer. He actually wanted to sign for us! But we wanted him to wait till we sold Suarez! Disgusting. Can't blame Rodgers though. He must be really peeved at Ayres and co.
ReplyDeleteHow do you know any of what you've written above? I presume you've got an open line to FSG, Ayres, Brendan Rodgers, Mkhitarayan, Real Madrid and Luis Suarez right?
ReplyDeleteNo, I disagree with you on Rakitic as he can play defensive mid who can break the play but yes not the physical presence that we're looking for. Banega is one hell of a player and Liverpool should go for him IMHO rather than the Jorginho guy.
ReplyDeleteI think we have the financial power to sign players that are of CL wage bracket but then FSG are trying to do something different here. So, I can't blame them to go against their plans because they have tried it and we got Carroll, Downing, etc.
ReplyDeleteWe certainly do given the way we play football :=)
ReplyDeletePayet and Banega are in the same situation. Both are terrific players but haven't been poached by bigger clubs yet.
ReplyDeletenever seen him play holding mid always been attacking and at wing early in his career but he could play as a box to box mid i suppose .. nemaja Matic would be the best D-mid we could get at 194cm he brings a great physically presence (helps defend against those set plays and scores once in a while) .. so quick at intercepting the play , strong in the tackle but the best part about him is his composure on the ball very similiar to xabi . benfica player of the year for a reason . at 24 years he could become the worlds best..
ReplyDeleteYeah. That's right. Same as everyone else here, knob.
ReplyDeleteAnyone who believes that Suarez is not going should take a look at the front of the Kop by the shop at the massive advertising picture for Liverpool Modelling the New Kit and Note one Massive absence in the players chosen as apposed to the one that was there Last season enough said he will be going to the highest bidder that is the fact of the matter
ReplyDeleteThe Player Liverpool should sign to replace Suarez is Bruma the Portuguese Kid he is only very young but it doesn't need a brain surgeon to see that kid will be a serious player he is now but in 2 or 3 years time he will cost the earth to buy
ReplyDeleteFrom across the pond this feels like last summer all over again! Other teams are chasing the high aims of the world and we are overdosing on kids. I am all for the youth movement but we need some proven size, speed, skill and toughness in midfield (mikhitarian) at striker (bony, lukaku, Gomez) and a tough mobile defender. Borini, Allen r u kidding me! I admire Suarez's skills but he emotionally nuts. lets get the cash and spending on a couple of real adults out there.........
ReplyDeletecannot believe the posts here stating that Allen is better than Hendu. The latter is twice the player and can actually pass and run forward, something Allen never showed at all the whole year. A waste of 24M.
ReplyDelete
