'They're willing to sell' - Porto invite offers for 'incredible' £10m star. LFC bid...?

In June, Porto winger Christian Atsu claimed that it is his 'childhood dream' to play in the Premier League, and with Liverpool reportedly tracking the 21-year old attacker, it appears that the Portuguese giant are seemingly willing to cash-in on the youngster.

Liverpool have been linked with Atsu several times over the last couple of months, and according to Sky Sports today:

"Liverpool, Tottenham and Everton are now actively monitoring [Atsu's] situation.

"With the player refusing to sign a new deal, Porto are ready to listen to offers"

Last night, a source close to the player told reporters:

"Porto have indicated they would be willing to sell Christian now as he will not sign a new deal. Christian has always said he would like to play in the Premier League and a number of clubs are interested in him."

When quizzed in early June about transfer interest from the Premier League, Atsu told Sky Sports:"

"I refused to sign a new deal and I hope we can reach a resolution soon. It has always been my dream to play in England and it is flattering to be linked with some big Premier League clubs. My future is in England and I hope I will have more news soon".

A few months ago, Tony Yeboah argued that Atsu could 'shine in the Premier League' and achieve everything he wants to' in English football, and this week, the Leeds United hero urged Atsu to join Liverpool. He told Portuguese newspaper Jornal Record:

"“Liverpool is the biggest team in England with a lot of tradition. They are playing some good football and their new manager allows the youth to play. It [a move to Anfield] is a nice opportunity to take his [Atsu's] game to the next level. It will benefit his development. "

21-year old Atsu - who has a £10m (€11m) buyout clause in his contract - is regualarly labelled the 'Ghanaian Messi', but it's not a nickname he cares for, as he told BBC Sport recently:

"That tag ‘Messi’ doesn’t put any pressure on me. Messi is my idol. There's no Ghanaian Messi, there is no other Messi in this world. I can never play even one percent of what Messi is doing. It's impossible."

Marseille star Andre Ayew - also currently linked with a move to Liverpool - is convinced that Atsu is destined for great things. He told the BBC recently:

"Ghanaians put too much pressure on him [Atsu], but I believe that he's going to be a great player."

Former Sunderland striker Asamoah Gyan agrees with that assessment:

"I've seen all the games that he has played for Ghana and he's been incredible. If he continues this way he's going to be a star."

  2. i thought that it was widely reported 2 weeks ago that we were going to focus on developing Ibe and Sterling because Ported didn't like our 'low' offer. Or did I dream it?

  3. 3 mil pounds sounds good and nothing more than that.

  4. I can tell you what happened. We inquired about the player and his agent started spreading the word that we wanted to sign him when that was not the case.

His agent and the player want a big pay day. That is all there is to the Atsu story.

  5. To be honest, Talksport linked us originally without any source cited from what I recall. And then they were also the ones who said we were no longer interested. Which makes me question how interested LFC were - if at all.

Even so, he doesnt overly excite me and I'd be very concerned if he was our "marque signing". Saying that though, he does appear to have a lot of pace but so do Sterling and Ibe; who I'd rather see on the team.

  8. ive read the same thing somewhere that we have had a bid of 3m knocked back...to be honest i dont know much about him ...what i do know is a lot of african players seem to be just after paydays and just bounce from one club to another ...thats not what we need

  9. don't know what to make of Liverpool's transfer policy, their has been some very good players available which no doubt would have improved our first team but end up being linked with unknown and less than average players, this is Liverpool not Accrington Stanley and all this about getting the wages down wont make things any easier pay peanuts and you know what you get

  10. hey hold on this is one of our marquee signings your on about

  13. dont think we will spend 30 mill on a 28 yr old fsg policy ._.

    ReplyDelete
  14. that would be very nice, great player but going off our recent failings I don't have much hope of this happening, fingers crossed though

    What an ignorant comment..

  17. I second that lol

  18. We've Sterling and Ibe who're already at LFC and would like to see them get develop rather than signing a same player of their ilk and hindering their development. I think we might sign him as a replacement for Assaidi though.

  19. yeah he's real class

  20. Joe Cole the English Messi would have been handy too. Two Messis!

  21. jusy saying how i see it dema ba, cisse and a few others dont seem to stay at clubs long whats ignorant about it ...by the samr token a lot of south american footballers all seem to have 3rd party ownership i would bother with them either...dont read racism where it isnt .....its a fact

  22. IMO fsg will want to sell suarez on the last day then they have an excuse for not spending the fee...you read it here first

    ReplyDelete
  23. at over 3m hes out of our price range anyway

    ReplyDelete
  24. Will he come right into the starting XI?

To be perfectly frank, 10m seems like a lot of money for a player coming off the bench, especially based on our previous business (see: Borini, Fabio).

  25. our transfer dealings are cetainly messi......on another note when rogers said he will gain a lot of caps he was on about his new set of teeth.....hes gone from burnt picket fence to looking like hes got a maynards milk teeth in his mush

    ReplyDelete
  26. Seriously give it a rest, just think for a second what you said there....how utterly idiotic does that sound?

    ReplyDelete
  27. its an opinion on what i think may happen and this is a forum...get off the fence and tell me how you think the suarez situatiuon will play out ive put my cards on the table

    ReplyDelete
  28. I've already said what I think about Suarez,we will indeed sell him, there's no question about that but for you to say FSG will try to sabotage their OWN asset is beyond contemplation, their motivator is to make a profit by selling us? yes? that makes sense, the way they'll make their money is to make us successful again, sabotaging us would be seriously counter-productive so by doing what you said would be as I said idiotic.Plus you have no grounds to base it off either, they let Kenny waste every penny from the Torres deal. FSG are not angles by any stretch of the imagination but seriously you and Jase just bash them for the hell of it usually with nothing behind the claims either.

    ReplyDelete
  29. it good business for then sell on the last day for 50m than we cant spend it ....im just throwing ideas out there....forget about what happened with Carroll they had just bought the club and pocketed 50m off Torres it was a unique set of circumstances

    ReplyDelete
  30. okay then if we sell suares how much of the fee will rogers get IYO

    ReplyDelete
  31. I would too

  32. liverpool4life5656:05 pm, July 21, 2013

  33. We missed out on Wanyama when will we go for Diame?

  34. Whatever the fact's are with his transfer negotiations, which I highly doubt your privy to, Him being African has absolutely nothing to do with it.

And to make a sweeping generalisation about African players as you did when every kid and his agent from Peckham to Peking seems to be holding clubs to ransom IS highly ignorant.

I don't believe your comments are racist.. I believe a certain level of intelligence is required to demonstrate true racism. Everything else is first and foremost ignorance..

    ReplyDelete
  35. Whatever it is £40m or £50m he'll get the full amount. history proves that, whereas history contradicts what you said.

    ReplyDelete
  36. if you read my first statement i said a lot which i stand by...and not all agents and players hold clubs to ransom and try to move club at the first opportunity....but lets cut to the chase chris you don't like me and i don't much care for you so lets just not bother replying to each other ..i mean if my comments are so ignorant and dumb well that's makes you just as dumb as me for replying and taking me on ... have a nice life

    ReplyDelete
  37. Nice one. Glad you're enjoying it :-)

    ReplyDelete
  38. listen im a Liverpool fan first and foremost so i hope im wrong ,,i just cant see fsg spending 40m

    ReplyDelete
  39. If anybody else had made such comment I would have said the same thing...

So please don't allow your misguided notion of this being personal cloud the issue..Fact is that comment is bang out of order and I'm not the only one who thinks so..

Think before you type next time .. cause there's no place for lazy ignorant stereotyping in football anymore..

And grow up while your at it...

  40. there are two continents where the players and agents play the game more than anyone thats africa and south america.....now there may be more geo economical reasons behind this like poverty ( but that's another debate ) but on the whole im sticking by what i say.....ill also come out and say Scandinavian players seem to have more club loyalty than other EUROPEAN players ....im not insulting african or south American players as they have to put there own needs first ...but on the whole these guys are one or two season players and ive seen nothing in your argument to suggest otherwise ...i dont mind being called dumb or lazy ..big f*cking deal you know more than me about football ....but i dont like the way you insinuate there are racial overtones to my argument ...and others dont like it well as ...to be honest i dont give a monkeys chuff if others dont like it .

  41. I am hoping against our recent form that we FINALLY sign a big name offensive player; if its sold ado, great. Everyone else we were "interested" or " in line for, have been signed elsewhere by folks really serious about it. latest Was Man City. Thacker of vision or conviction is killing me and I doubt I am the only fan feeling this way...

    ReplyDelete
  42. Your making generalisations about Africans and now Scandinavians .. both races of people .. and you think that your comments don't have racial overtones..

Seriously someone take the shovel off this guy ...

    ReplyDelete
  43. just no, i really dont see the hype about him. Sterling looks better than him and we already have Sterling.

    ReplyDelete
  44. When we sold Torres there was a £5m surplus (net gain) in transfer fees.
The next season was a £35m net spend, then £26m net spend.
So you're basing your prediction on what? Gut feeling?

    ReplyDelete
  45. totally agreed

    ReplyDelete
  46. I would agree that this is the case with a few of players we get linked with

    ReplyDelete
  47. May as well get Atsu another ordinary signing where we can cling to the hope he will come good some day even though he is just a mercenary.
A bit of real talent is needed i look at the other EPL clubs and not too many have done worse than Liverpool recruiting wise this window.

    ReplyDelete
  48. whats racial about saying scandanavians tend to stay at a club longer than afrians or south americans...in football terms ....your to clever for a football forum you should be writing for a nobel peace prize .....you should have your own site and call it I AM THE SMARTEST MAN ALIVE ....ps im going nowhere

    ReplyDelete
  49. not even that....generally the first thing that comes into my head lol

  53. Ha ha honesty for a change on these boards! :-)
FSG have got some things quite wrong, but backing the manager with transfer funds isn't one of them

    ReplyDelete
