Agent confirms: Barca 'traitor' was 'one step away' from signing for LFC

The Agent of Juve starlet Pol Garcia Tena has confirmed that Liverpool are interested in signing the young central defender this summer.

In an interview last night, Alessandro Orlandi - Tena's agent - told TMW:

"Whilst at Barcelona, he [Tena] was one step away from signing for Liverpool.

"Juventus was a better project for the player."

In May, Tena's previous Agent - Matthew Mossini - confirmed Liverpool's interest in the youngster. He told reporters:

"Liverpool and Malaga are interested. Currently, we have not officially talked to anyone. What is important is the growth of the boy and a loan experience could be the right solution"

Tena plays for the Juventus youth team in the Campionato Primavera (Girone A), and he's another graduate of Barcelona's famous La Masia academy.

Barca's fans were unhappy that Tena rejected the club's contract offer to leave for Juve, and labelled him a 'traitor', but the youngster denies that he did anything wrong. He told reporters recently:

"I am not a traitor. No one can doubt that I gave everything for Barca. The fans have the right to think what they like, but I am thankful for the three years I spent at the club, which allowed me to learn and develop"

When asked to describe Tena's style of play, Mossini compared the youngster to 'Christian Chivu in his early years at Ajax', adding:

"He is a very technical defender who can play on the left, either attacking or defending. He has improved a lot tactically at Juve, and despite being a defender, he very skilled with the ball"

Liverpool arguably need another central defender, but someone experienced, not another untested youngster, so this particular loss not really a big deal.

  1. I'd be more happy if we signed Toby or Sakho or Papadopolous. Anyone of them would suit our play but Toby would be more preferred if it comes to that. I wish LFC could any two of the CBs I mentioned.

We should have kept Daniel Ayala. He could have been a monster for us.
