Liverpool are reportedly one of a host of Premier League clubs interested in signing young Chelsea attacker Islam Feruz.
According to Sky Sports today:
"Arsenal, Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool, West Ham and Fulham are all monitoring his [Feruz's] contract situation.
"The 17-year-old is regarded as one of the most exciting prospects in the UK after bursting onto the scene with Celtic".
Feruz - unflatteringly nicknamed the 'Scottish Wayne Rooney' - signed for Chelsea two years ago, and is a regular for Scotland's U21 team.
The Somalian attacker also played a major part in the Blues' march to the final of the NextGen tournament last season. Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho clearly rates Feruz as he's included him in the club's upcoming pre-season tour of Asia.
Last October, £5m-rated Feruz scored a brilliant match-winning hat-trick in Scotland's 4-3 victory over Switzerland, and after the game, his team-mate Lewis Macleod raved:
"Islam is a brilliant player. The three goals he scored were different class. You can see he is an outstanding performer in training. He is key to the team when we play in the Euros. If he keeps playing the way he did in the qualifiers then he has a very big future ahead of him".
Scottish FA performance director Mark Wotte added:
"With the right mind-set and guidance, Islam has the potential to become the next Scotland goal scorer."
Like Raheem Sterling, Feruz looks a little lightweight to me, but he's clearly got talent and skill...

If Mourinho rates him so highly then why'd you think he might be sold to any other club when they themselves have a star in the making.I don't think they'd let him go so easily when they themselves are poaching youngsters from other clubs.
ReplyDeletemight turn out to be great, who knows. The step up from u21 and youth footy to prem is so vast its unreal. Pacheco was prob the best Spanish u21 player in his position and got the golden boot at the u21 euros, but he hasn`t turned out as hoped. 5mil is to much. 1mil yes.
ReplyDeletemore like SWP lol
ReplyDeleteif swansea can already bring in 7 new players we should be doing the same or better ,
ReplyDeletecan we stop with the headlines ,fantastic, terrific and brilliant ,and start using the proper words to disscibe our transfer targets young ,average or cheap seem to fit the headline better imo :(
ReplyDelete'Brilliant' is a direct quote, hence quotation marks. I never use superlatives in headlines unless it's a direct quote from a player/manager etc.
ReplyDeleteApparently there has been some sort of falling out or dispute with the club and he doesn't want to stay and sign a pro contract with them.
ReplyDeletesorry fair enough but it just seems it the same every headline but then again you cannot help what there managers or agents says ,and i suppose thats there job to hype them up
ReplyDeletebecause he is coming up to 18 and he can choose who he wants to play for they will all place contract offers in front of him and he will choose where he wants to play by showing him th first team Chelsea are trying to keep him but he knows he wont break in thee this season and he might do better elsewhere who play youngsters
ReplyDeleteWhy would he leave a top club and move to Liverpool.
ReplyDeleteon another subject i see rodgers as said he they have done a great job of strengthening the squad and now they are going to start sorting out the starting 11 ,and we will have a terrific squad to challenge next season, when his he going to learn to keep his mouth shut until the deals are done,it will only further infuriate fans unless the signing are made and we challenge this season ,its all well talking the talk, rodgers this season its time to walk the walk
ReplyDeletemaybe because like most of us he detests chelsea
ReplyDeleteWhen he played against us in the youth cup he impressed me, but I agree with zanatos about the step up from youth to first team.
ReplyDeleteThe fact of the matter is he is an out and out centre forward similar in style to Gerd Muller not an attacking midfielder.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the insight. I didn't know anything about him other than what I read on this article.
ReplyDeleteYes, then we can sign him because of the trust BR shows in the youngsters.
ReplyDeleteHow is that bad? He keeping the fans up to date, il be more worried if he was quiet!
ReplyDeleteBecause you wreck young players?:)
ReplyDeleteWhile I somewhat agree with Jase about being quite till the deals are done I think now that BR has said the first four signings were signed to strengthen the squad and the fact he now wants player who will improve the starting 11 hes perhaps a little grumpy :P But Im sure he'll find a way to put a pessimistic spin on it :)
ReplyDeleteCOS HE MIGHT HAVE REALIZED THAT CHEALSEA ARE PLASTIC JUST LIKE THIER FLAGS . A CLUB WITH NO SOUL
ReplyDeleteforgot about that to many reasons to name them all
ReplyDeletelol i will believe it when i see it
ReplyDeleteMost players being linked, are young players that may be great one day. Rodgers has said he's looking for affordable first team players, over the remainder of the summer window. With your best player, inevitably leaving. I'm sure he can cast his net over bigger fish?
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing how Pacheco hasn't worked out here.
ReplyDeleteHe seemingly has all the tools to be a very good player now and to improve.
It just hasn't clicked yet.
The Scottish Rooney. Yes, that indeed is unflattering. Does it mean that he looks a bit overweight and in the wrong sport, is a bit overrated at playing football, likes elder women, is intellectually challenged and basically a b€ll€nd?
ReplyDeleteIs signing new players really about quantity?
ReplyDeleteWe have the new Gerd Müller on our books already. No need for another one.
ReplyDeleteThe "affordable" part may give a hint at why we didn't push for Mkhitaryan, if we ever really were after him.
ReplyDeleteThe latter. Dude.
ReplyDeleteHe's never been offered the chance to prove himself. I himself think he should be/should have been loaned to a middle/lower premier league team.. Just to see what he could produce, with teams like Wigan who often took on youth from top teams, I honestly think we missed an opportunity.
ReplyDeletethat was conner hunte
ReplyDeleteAt least he's not bald.
ReplyDeleteApologies, my mistake you're quite right.
ReplyDeleteAs we know from Rooney's case, that's fixable ;-)
ReplyDeletelol that we will ;) But I think its good to know Rodgers is looking to improve the starting 11 now,Hopefully Eriksen!!!
ReplyDeleteBad news fellow reds fans...Southampton scoops Wanamaker and Swansea get Bony..two guys this site have been pounding the for....I hope we finish the job of getting stronger at striker, midfield and defense...
ReplyDeleteRead my post...we just lost out on two good players; Wanyama to Southampton and Bony to Swansea....Many of us are begging BR and FSG to get 2-3 bigger name guys with a more established record....2 good guys gone.......
ReplyDeleteAmen....telling it like it is....
ReplyDeletesomeone as to ;-)
ReplyDeletesorry m8 but eriksen or anyone like him will not happen unless we sell our prize assits
ReplyDeleteI doubt it. Mkhitaryan simply opted to go to the Champions League finalists and Bundesliga runner ups. It's like saying Chelsea didn't have the money for Guardiola. FSG have never been shy to splash the case before where necessary so I don't see why they would have been here.
ReplyDeleteLiverpool didn't bid. Why would shaktar lie about that? The owners haven't been shy on reinvesting player sales money generated, you are right. That will be the case, when Suarez goes. The only time they spent big apart from that was their first summer window, when they set asside the big outlay, when completing their takeover.
ReplyDeleteIt's not worth bidding if the player's agent says he doesn't want to talk to you. Even his coach advised him not to go to us or Tottenham. As soon as Dortmund got involved it was a wrap.
ReplyDeleteThey spent over £30M on Allen, Borini and Sahin. Then they went on to spend £23M in JJanuary on Sturbridge and Coutinho. Tell me how many teams have spent more? Not Arsenal. Not even Man U. If you outlay the amount they did in 2011 you shouldn't have to be spending like crazy a year later. The point of spending a lot is that the product lasts for a long time. Hence United's big purchases like Ferdinand and Rooney have lasted over 5 years without having to replace them. Unless of course you want them to borrow against the club and send us to the brink again.
ReplyDeleteExactly my argument. Why not invest in world class players like Rooney etc. These players will, in the long term save you wasting £15m on joe allen etc. Because its a longterm investment. And increase your chances of top 4 and attracts better players in future windows. You've answered your own argument;)
ReplyDeleteHow do you know that? Like is there an insider informing you of this or something? Like what exactly makes you think that?
ReplyDeleteWell, maybe we want to sign several players instead of splashing our kitty on one or two players.
ReplyDeleteThe funny thing about FSG is they came into soccer;) with the premise of uefas fair play rules, stating Arsenal as the prime example, of the moneyball tactic, that same team is willing to spend tens of millions on top players, some with no resale value. (I know their stadiums paid for)And even funnier are the Monaco' +PSG's, who are spending silly money. Its not a level playing field and im still hopefull an oil sheikh will take over Liverpool. Just like im hopefull il win the lottery. Lol.
ReplyDeleteExactly. Big names attract other players. It shows ambition. We keep buying kids, or players that are a gamble. At the moment our top player is being linked to Arsenal. We are like the other non top 4 sides, where we develop them and the top four and other champions league sides come and take them away. Coutinho-watch this space.
ReplyDeletePS: I never understand this pseudo-complaint that FSG have recovered some of the money spent from incomings. Considering that 3 years ago we were borrowing against the club to make signings and paying extortionate interest rates, surely it makes perfect sense to try and balance the books? Isn’t that exactly what they said they’ll do? In fact I think they have done better than that. When you see their transfer patterns they tend to conclude deals very early often before the outgoing deals are confirmed. Hence it’s hard to argue that the manager is put under pressure to sell before he spends. This was the scenario that Rafa was under that eventually led to the sale of Xabi Alonso. He was under pressure to sell in order to afford Barry. That pressure led to him offering Alonso to half of Europe for £16M, a move that clearly embarrassed and angered Alonso. He went on to have his greatest season in a Liverpool shirt then leaving and Rafa went on to getting sacked. The sell first policy places managers under undue pressure and forces them into mistakes and diminished squads. However the balancing books policy and emphasis on recovering as much of the expenditure as possible is simply a smart and measured approach that we should all be cheering. We are not Man City , Chelsea , Monaco or PSG. I for one don’t want to be them. We can’t just spend willy nilly with no concern as to how much comes in. We can’t have a squad full of Maloudas and Ferreiras who get paid handsomely to do nothing. We SHOULD be selling players that are surplus to requirements and we should be trying to get as much as possible for them. The only question should be is the manager bringing in better players who can push us forward? The jury’s out on Allen and Borini but I think in Sturridge and Coutinho they definitely are encouraging signings that we can support.
ReplyDeleteQuality over quantity, please :)
ReplyDeleteMaybe they are not good enough for us, it's not like they went to another side competing for the Champions League. I think it shows more about the players ambition than BR's.
ReplyDeleteWell that’s two totally different things then.
ReplyDelete1st thing: the manager picks the targets. Rodgers spent £27M on Borini and Allen and a further £5M on a loan fee for Sahin. That was enough for one world class player. Rodgers chose to purchase two possible talents that he had worked with previously and a potential star who had not risen to expectation as yet. Rodgers’ decision not FSG. You can’t blame them for the manager’s choices. They gave him the money.
2nd thing: if the Mkhitarayan and Suarez sagas have taught us anything it’s that world class players don’t want to be at Liverpool right now. FSG could bid £200M for Messi. Barcelona could be tempted. But if Messi simply doesn’t want to go to Anfield it just won’t happen. Anzhi have more money than most clubs in Europe but they simply aren’t attractive to the top players for various reasons. The fact is that we don’t have Champions League football and we haven’t won the league in 23 years. Dortmund and Arsenal are more attractive to a burgeoning star in their mid-twenties. And even if those world class players come here for a massive pay check they’ll most likely be mercenaries at the tail end of their career. We’ll just be a glorified QPR. We can either be that or try to progress in a smarter, cost-effective way. The old model of outspending everyone is outdated and will lead us to ruin.
Let’s get this straight: We were on sale for a full year at bargain basement prices (essentially just our £250M or odd debt). For a club of Liverpool ’s stature that was cheap. NO RICH OIL SHEIKS CAME KNOCKING. DIC flirted and then looked at the effort needed to get the club back on its feet and did a runner. It should tell you something: There are no rich oil sheiks that want us. Straight out the frying pan into the pits of inferno Hellfire comes to mind. I appreciate optimism but not absolute naivety especially when we were bit less than 10 years ago with Hicks and Gillette. If we cannot find buyers prepared to develop a stadium AND spend enough to keep us competitive I say stick with the devil you know.
ReplyDeleteThats a good point, looking at some of the players we have been linked with, G.Ramirez, Van Wolfswinkel and Lovren as examples, They arent exactly at champions league clubs now.
ReplyDeleteAlso its has been reported Alderwiereld had a fee agreed with Norwich, Why arent these players going to the likes of City, ManU and Chelsea?
Yeah we need proven players that are motivated by getting our club back were we belong, but I don't think there are many player that aren't motivated by money yet spew out the 'I want to play champions league' crap. Fair play to Norwich though chairman putting money where his mouth is, how many palyers is that they have signed now?
ReplyDeleteWhat temerity! Perhaps, you should make some effort to spell properly before you even attempt to ask JK to use proper words to "disscibe"...?
ReplyDeletei thought you had gone back in the tool box
ReplyDeletebecause our owners are tight as a ducks a$$,i bit of goodwill under kenny and thats it
ReplyDeleteYep, and when the rumours concerning Mkhitaryan first surfaced, they stated that we would go after him in case Suaréz was sold. Don't know why so many of us got so excited right away.
ReplyDeleteHow about somewhere in the middle. Having a quality first eleven, but a rubbish squad doesn't really help much.
ReplyDelete
