Last week, Liverpool striker Luis Suarez publicly confirmed that he wants to leave Anfield this summer, and soon after that admission, Spanish newspaper Marca reported that a £40m move to Real Madrid is already a 'done deal'. Whether Suarez actually leaves or not remains to be seen, but Reds goalkeeper Pepe Reina has strongly hinted that the Uruguayan is indeed on his way out of Liverpool this summer.
When asked about Suarez's future over the weekend, Reina told the Interview Factory:
"Liverpool is a great club but I’m sure he [Suarez] wants to fight for titles.
"He wants to play with the best. Luis is 26 and he has to think about his career.
"He maybe wants to have other things that Liverpool doesnt have right now".
As his team-mate, Reina will almost certainly have the inside track on Suarez's future, and reading between the lines, the Spaniard certainly makes it sound like Suarez wants to move on this summer. In fact, it sounds like Reina is basically rationalising Suarez's (inevitable) departure, and he gives four reasons why the Uruguayan may leave:
* He wants to fight for titles.
* He wants to play with the best.
* He has to think about his career.
* He wants what LFC can't offer.
It's not beyond the realm of possibility that:
* Suarez discussed his future with Reina, and these are the reasons he gave for wanting to leave. OR:
* The squad has already been informed that Suarez is leaving, and Reina is revealing as much as he can without actually saying outright that Suarez is leaving.
According to MARCA, Suarez has already agreed a four-year contract with Real Madrid. The report states:
* "The deal is nothing new. It was reached some weeks ago. On one hand, there were the player's agents led by Pere Guardiola, Pep's brother and on the other, Florentino PĂ©rez's envoys in these matters, the Money men. It's a done deal".
Suarez will apparently receive a 'significant pay-rise' as part of the deal, and the transfer fee will most likely be £40m, which is the Uruguayan's alleged contractual buyout clause.
Soon after Marca's story, the Liverpool Echo claimed that there is no buyout clause in Suarez's contract, but quite how they would know that is anyone's guess.
I sincerely doubt anyone from LFC divulged that info, and if the Reds wanted to discredit the buyout clause, they could've set the record straight in their 'Suarez is not for sale' statement last week.
Suarez got back on the field last night for the first time since his 10-game bite ban, and he ended up scoring the winning goal against France:

Why are my comments being removed .. ?
ReplyDeleteHe can leave no problem but he's worth more than £40m. If Real want him so badly they can pay the £50m because that's the going rate for a world class striker which he is.
ReplyDeleteOdd that the "press" wasn`t a reason he said to Reina. As if anyone actually believed that rubbish when he said it.
ReplyDeleteI can understand why Suarez wants to leave... No European football, no heavy spending for better players to play with, no realistic chance for titles or CHL exit, plus an unfriendly country for him (only LFC fans love him), where he will be always the bad guy (he has to blame himself as well for that, but not himself only). If he'll get a transfer for Real, he will be at the greatest european club in terms of titles and spending, in a country much closer to his latin culture. Of course Bernabeu is a talent graveyard, but this is his risk... For me the best solution is to take the money from this transfer and bring three good players at Anfield, but... I'm not sure about the re-investment of Suarez's money back to the team from the FSG heads...
ReplyDeleteStop writing crap..reina said nothing
ReplyDeleteIf you had targeted(or "sniped") the 'DUDE' (JK) or the source (PR) your comments would've been removed. Or perhaps it was plain technical error;
ReplyDeleteHe said similar stuff about Torres when he left
ReplyDeleteSounds more to me like he's simply giving his view on Suarez's comments that we're all already heard. There is nothing new in here. That he says "he MAYBE wants to have other things" is language of a guy who is speculating about someone he knows, not relaying direct information or giving away something Suarez told him privately. I see no reason to think that this is anything other that Reina answering a question to give his view on the situation, based on precisely the same information that everyone else has as per the interviews that Suarez has given. We could all interpret this in different ways depending on what story we want to be true. JK wants the story to be true that Suarez is leaving and therefore he interprets the comments as supporting that. Other people do the opposite. There is nothing strong enough either way, it's completely speculative.
ReplyDeleteAs for the claim by the Echo that there is no buyout clause ... this is simply two newspapers putting forward differing stories. Why would Marca know more about the player's contract than the Echo? Why does a Spanish sports tabloid get more credibility than Liverpool's number one news outlet? They are both in the same situation so the claim by the Echo is just as reliable as the initial claim by Marca that such a clause exists.
I still think it's credible. Just ask yourself what it would be like to try to walk down the street with your wife and daughter and be unable to get away from press scrutiny. I certainly wouldn't like it and I'd guess it's reasonable to assume that not all footballers are constantly tailed by the media. Yes, it's his own doing, but that doesn't make the end result any different.
ReplyDeletei'm sorry jaimie you can't have it both ways......you question the Liverpool echo's "no buy out clause" saying how would they know that, but are quite happy to say suarez's transfer is likely to be £40m which is his alleged contractual buyout clause. but alleged by whom ?? and as you so rightly say how would they know ??
ReplyDeleteAnd in the end. does it really matter who stays and who goes because Liverpool will still be our club and we will still be here
Rather have Suarez in the Liverpool team, he needs time to think over some things. Also that 4 year deal thing is rubbish even Suarez said that. Suarez is class and hopefully he stays :)
ReplyDeleteLove the last part "I'm not sure about the re investment of Suarez money back to the team from FSG heads" let me ask you this, what happened when babel and Torres were sold? Oh yes KK wasted 35 mil on Carroll and brought in Suarez for 22/23 million, then summer came KK brought in hendo-16 million(rising to 20) downing for 20 m, Adam-7m, Coates-7m erinque-6 mil, so FSG obviously invested the money back into the team just it was spent wrong.
ReplyDeleteCan't even seem to engage in discussion now ..
ReplyDeleteAnd trust me JK is not the DUDE ..
The DUDE abides.. JK does not..
There is no evidence to suggest that there is a "done" deal in place for Suarez. JK can choose to believe Marca and not the Liverpool Echo. Then we see Reina's words twisted to suit the argument. Creative...yes. factual...no. Suarez might well go in the end but it would appear that some people have jumped to some conclusiuons that are not, as yet, supported by any facts.
ReplyDeleteWhat he said about protecting his family made sense except for seeking out Real Madrid as a destination, where it really is white hot. It seemed to me that Luis did not want to offend the club or fans by seeming to say LFC is not good enough for him, which is somewhat patronising and I think misjudged. I feel Pepe is being a messenger for a friend, saying what Luis feels he cannot, and so emphasises more than ever that he is on his way and there is no way back.
ReplyDeletedoes anyone really care anymore we are becoming a circus its embarressing
ReplyDeleteI think it would be very interesting indeed to know the exact questions Reina was asked. Best would be the entire interview, because pulling a few sentences out of an interview may be quite a bit misleading. Words have a different meaning in a different context.
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts exactly.
ReplyDeleteMate this is silly season every club is going through the same thing! I doubt Reina has the inside track, players often know as much as what we do. I guess he has commenting on suarezs remarks
ReplyDeleteWhat you write makes a lot of sense, until you question whether the money we might earn from a possible sale of Suaréz will be re-invested into the squad.
ReplyDeleteMy guess would be that the media would follow him around a lot more then they do in Liverpool, did Suaréz play in Madrid or Munich.
ReplyDeletewow im surprise he didnt dive for a penalty in d video....
ReplyDeleteI suppose these are all ideas that make sense only to Luis Suarez. He seems to think that he'll cop a break if he gets out of England, or at least be faced with a different perception, be that realistic or not. He could be well wide of the mark in terms of what lies in store for him somewhere else but I find the idea of him feeling overly scrutinised right now to be plausible. It could be all in his head but I know what it's like to irrationally feel as if a certain place just has it in for you. Without a certain degree of emotional maturity (which I think we all know Luis doesn't have much of) it's hard to convince yourself that things are not as they seem, you just want to leave and go somewhere new, not really thinking through the logic of it. I do wonder what his wife has to say on the subject.
ReplyDeleteThe problem is, Liverpool don't want to sell. His goal against France is yet more proof that we are talking about one of the best five players in the world here, whether people appreciate that or not. 50 million would be the minimum if you ask me. Not sure if he could handle being at Madrid with Ronaldo though. Suarez enjoys being the star player. Which is something he wouldn't be at Bernabeu.
ReplyDeleteOff topic, the reports from the friendly are Coates performed very well compared to his counter part Lugano. Don't know if i'm disappointed he hasn't shown more as I don't want to judge him on the Oldham game alone since it was his first game in a long time just as people don't judge him from his QPR beaut.
ReplyDeleteI feel like if we let him go we will regret it eventually but it seems inevitable.
you will be shell shocked to know he got only 1 yellow for diving last season then
ReplyDeleteMore inclined to believe the Liverpool Echo on anything LFC-related than any other publication or media outlet - very rarely wrong about club matters.
ReplyDeleteAs long as Liverpool get the sort of money they got for Fernando Torres and invest the full amount in the squad he can leave with my blessings. I am sure that many Liverpool supporters are of the same opinion here. He's a special talent but I do not include him in the world class bracket yet and that's because of his insane unprofessional behaviour on the pitch and off it. As things stand, next year he may end up playing only half of the games if he gets another suspension and Liverpool cannot afford to have their best player suspended if they want to aim to reach a CL spot. Yes Real can have him on our (Liverpool) terms, like they did with Xabi Alonso and that would be either over 50 mil or a player like Benzema/Di Maria + 25 mil over and above. They can go for Raul Albiol + 40 Mil + as well. They can st*** Callejon where they should.
ReplyDeletethen how many times he sit there blaming defender and ref ?
ReplyDeletem8 it used to be kept behind closed doors at anfield since fsg and there documentary we have become a laughing stock players and worse manager running to the media every chance they get
ReplyDeletelol how many times did he get hacked to death and the defender got nothing no card no free pick nothing
ReplyDeleteagree m8 and they have said big money signings are based on the sale of suarez so lets not get carried away imo this will drag on and on and we will not get anytop players and suarez will be sold ,
ReplyDeletei would not be surprised if he has a release clause imo fsg will sell anyone if the price is right glad gerrard is comming to the end of his carear or they would have sold him
ReplyDeleteor perhaps the big red delete button was on overtime;-)
ReplyDeleteWherever Suarez is he will be a star because of his insane passion and hunger to win at all cost. He's not going to hide in one corner just because Ronaldo is upset. He's going to think that he's better than Ronaldo and that's going to motivate Ronaldo and the whole dressing room. What I love about Suarez is his drive to win and hatred for failure which you can see on his face. His teammates also say how serious he is during training and he never misses any of them. If he could curb his antics, this is the perfect kind of guy to have in your team especially Madrid when some of them have too big egos like Ronaldo which mourinho stated recently doesn't accept any more criticisms. You can see Suarez just wants to keep getting better and that infects the morale of the team.
ReplyDeletehahaha even FA cant answer that bro !
ReplyDeletethats exactly why we should show ambition and keep him at anfield
ReplyDeleteIt hasn't been done behind "closed doors" for a very long time. I suggest it has more to do with the times we live in, with the invention of social media, fans greedy for any bit of information and our access to thousands of news sources than FSG, but maybe i am crazy
ReplyDeleteIf Suarez wants to go just let him go for the right price, he's a wonderful player but all this will he go or not business will only distrupt the team and leave the fans in limbo. I've supported Liverpool since the day I was born in a Sefton General Hospital in the 70's I was put in a Liverpool baby grow so I'm no fair weather fickle fan and I'm fiercely loyal about LFC sometimes with a blind almost tribal loyalty, it pains me to say it that Suarez has proven to be problematic to put it lightly and although he is a world class player to much focus has been put on his actions rather than his football. Who we spend the money on or if Brendans the right man or not is a separate issue altogether but (I say this with a tear in my eye) Suarez needs to go regardless we are 'Liverpool Football Club' not Suarez FC
ReplyDeleteIt could vey well be that he'll do well somewhere else if he leaves. Sometimes it's just a matter of fitting into the system. Coates has Always done well for Uruguay so maybe he needs to be at a club that play a similar game.
ReplyDeleteExactly
ReplyDeleteno one forced them to make the programme
ReplyDeletewelcome to my world;-)
ReplyDeleteI hate these kind of deals, they just seem to drag on for ages. Just let us know if its on or not. Stop with the rumours.
ReplyDeleteGet it sorted and move on!
jaimie kanwar
ReplyDeletehere is my honest opinion(and it is not a snipe or saying i do not like the site)
we all get the fact you do not want suarez at the club thats fine its your opinion but others are entitled to theres ,you have got quite a few posters on site since suarez as said he may like to leave ,and imo you do not want to let it ease up he scored a great goal yesterday and showed just what we would be missing so you post a new thread straight after taking the shine off it and getting every one back onto the fact he may want to go ,its not as if hes doing a tevez saying hes homesick and he needs to be playing in a country which understands is culture only to move about 5 miles away(if suarez signs for another english club then i would change my view)he waqnts to play for one of the top clubs in the world and if we do not at least try to become one of the top clubs again then he has every rite, but please let this hate ,hate relationship you have with suarez do not cloud your judgement ,because to say we would be a better team without him is comical(on the pitch)and anyone who thinks that should be recieving a call from the men in white coats very soon imo
The bottom line here is you - and many others - simply cannot hack views about Suarez that don't match your own. As such, you constantly engage in attempts at backhanded censorship, repeatedly exhorting me to change my views, and/or stop posting about Suarez. This is the same approach taken by centuries of intolerant censors: keep attacking those with opposing views (employing belittling tactics) until they eventually give up.
ReplyDeleteNothing I've posted about Suarez is unfair. You have your view, I have mine; the only difference is you don't see me repeatedly trying to cajole people into changing their views on stuff with which I don't agree.
I'm going to say this for the final time: stop moaning about my views on Suarez. I do not want to see another post from you bitching about my view on him. All further posts along those lines will be deleted.
If I make a point about Suarez that you disagree with then, by all means, argue your point, but do so with reference to the specific point I make. Do not moan about how often I post about Suarez etc.
Whether I want to let it 'ease up' is totally irrelevant. If I want to post 10 times a day about Suarez, I will, and if you don't like that, hard cheese.
We are DOOMED!!!
ReplyDeleteYou making ish up!!! Keep eating that humble pie!!
ReplyDeletehe will be a great loss for the team footballing wise, Totally agree....but he shouldn't have said all the stuff. I don't want to see unhappy players in LFC.
ReplyDeletei am stating what the liverpool echo says about it a slightly bit more reliable than the average web site
ReplyDeletehe has always said one day he would like to play for a top club he may have thought after two seasons that things are not going to change for the better at anfield, and the constant belittleing of him in the media will not help
ReplyDeletei admit i do like to see LS go (my view, i see it benefit us,my opinion only no offend to other at here) but i oso agree im getting bored with LS news, nth new just keep on deja vu. Put effort to dig out other NEW thing will much appreciated right? Any1 with me?
ReplyDeleteit is not up to me or you what jaimie posts if he wants to put 10 posts a day up about suarez he can its is progative on another subject we are down to 5th in the revenue league in england,
ReplyDeletechris i have the same problem this is the third post i have put up to you the other two were deleted lol;-0 it must be the word filter or strange powers from an alien force,i would like to know the truth but i probably could not handle the truth
ReplyDeletetwo bits of news for you mignolets agent says he will not sign a new contract at sunderland(2 years left)also lfc down to 5th in the prem on revenue(190 odd million)
ReplyDeleteAs far as I understand it and according to many reports the clause is that if a team offers £40m or more then Liverpool have to allow Suarez to talk to the club in question but it does not mean Liverpool have to sell him.
ReplyDeleteour kits sponsor will change new design on home and away every year...that make money !!!
ReplyDeletelooks like a straight fight between Bayern and Madrid we will start the bidding at 50million
ReplyDeleteBut did it bring important things into the open that otherwise would not have been divulged? I doubt it
ReplyDeleteactually he gets up and abuses them :P
ReplyDeleteYes, so there is hardly any point to keep a player who don't want to stay anymore. We can't replace his quality but we can buy players who wants to play for Liverpool. Shit happens in football all the time. You have to agree though, Suarez chose a worse path (media) to clear his way from LFC. I now respect Torres more.
ReplyDeleteIn the post the other day, Jaimie claimed something to the effect that we should believe Marca's story because of their relationship with Real Madrid.
ReplyDeleteIn today's post, when the Echo states that Suarez doesn't have a buy out clause, Jaimie shrugs it off because how would they know that.
In other words, we should believe Marca but we should take the Echo's story with a grain of salt. Am I reading that correctly?
But still not reliable then? ;)
ReplyDeleteIf Suarez wants to leave then he can pi55 0ff. We didn't do too badly without him did we?! He'll regret it when the club he moves to wont play around him, like we did, because they will have other bigger name players in their team. Mark my words, once he moves he will certainly do well but not to the level he had last season, or could have had if he stayed.
ReplyDeleteBut we don't really want two faced, ungrateful people of that ilk at the club. No matter how good a player they may be.
You make some very good points there.
ReplyDeleteNot sure that he would regret moving to Real Madrid, with a fair chance to win the league and CL football every season. He may find it difficult to play second fiddle to CR7, though. As far as I know he's been the top player wherever he's been so far.
ReplyDeleteFighting for titles, playing with better players, better club, more money and south americans having a deeply rooted cultural attraction to Spain. Not much wrong with that. Those reasons I've always agreed with and backed Suarez, in that regard, from almost the moment he arrived here, in terms of leaving. For some other over-the-top/BS reasons like has been peddled recently, no, just no.
ReplyDeleteYou question how the Echo would know that he doesn't have a buy out clause but why don't you question that MARCA know he has one?
ReplyDeleteWell according to Henry and his comment last week..."Liverpool will finance itself"... I fully expect that that would be the outcome and any monies would be naturally player-purchase-bent.
ReplyDeleteQuite right Graeme. Whatever the outcome we will still have a team for the start of the new season and they will be followed just as keenly whomsoever is in the squad.
ReplyDeletenothing in life is garunteed
ReplyDeletei have more respect for suarez he never gave less than 100% and for that i salute him if half the players had put as much effort in as him last season we mite be in champions league next season
ReplyDeleteFighting for titles, playing with better players, better club, more money and south americans having a deeply rooted cultural attraction to Spain are reasons I can agree with. Not much wrong with those reasons. Those reasons I've always agreed with and backed Suarez, in that regard, from almost the moment he arrived here, in terms of leaving. For some other over-the-top/BS/sensationalized reasons like has been peddled recently, no, just no.
ReplyDeleteAs for the clause, take anything from the media with a pinch of salt, regardless of alleged close relationships some sources have with the respective clubs or players or agents. Echo v Marca. Both are media sources, therefore both are capable of talking absolute BS.
Grr, accidently pressed 'x' on my own post.
ReplyDeletefair points, but arguably all to players due to becoming famous get followed everywhere. I cant imagine its only Suarez. I also imagine it happens in a lot of other countries
ReplyDeleteWait till tuesday for more developments. Suarez will be having a tell all interview on Uruguayan TV on monday, so there will probably be some decent info there. Premeditated statemtents rather than off the cuff remarks. Should be interesting.
ReplyDeleteSuarez has a €40 million clause in his contract that allows him to speak to clubs but this does not mean that the club has to offer that amount. Apparently having this clause gives Suarez flexibility.
ReplyDeleteDont sell him. he will get over it soon. Anfield is getting brighter.
ReplyDeleteWhy can't we just do a spurs ala modric and just say you are not leaving for at least a year use him to get back in CL then we'll be able to attract WC players again if he does decide to go. The guy is under contract and I can't see him doing a tevez and refusing to play.
ReplyDeleteBecause if you dare dissagree with JK then you do not have a voice. all but one of my posts have been deleted. wilcome to the club.
ReplyDeleteAs far as I'm concerned, they all talk a pile of nonsense, throwing as many rumours at the wall and waiting for one story to stick so they can congratulate themselves on their massive scoop.
ReplyDeleteI very much doubt the price will get anywhere close to £50m when we eventually sell Suarez - and we'd be foolish to stretch negotiations out all summer waiting for such a fee to come in...
ReplyDeleteFrom Suarez' point of view, I'd be like, why should I stay at LFC for another year? If all goes well, I score the goals to get them back into the CL, and then move on elsewhere after the year is up - so another year of my prime where I am failing to challenge for major trophies, in a country to which I have no particular affiliation, just so that I can then hopefully make the same move in a year that I could make right now.
ReplyDeleteFrom LFC's point of view, we have one of the best players in the world right now and any transfer fee should reflect Suarez's quality on the pitch. However, the fee is likely at it's peak right now and there is no guarantee that the same fee will be on offer next year. Meanwhile Suarez's antics are severely harming the reputation of the club, and the money on offer to prospective signings would be more of a draw than the chance to play with Suarez.
As far as I'm concerned, it would be best for all parties to just agree the £40m sale asap and let everybody just move on.
Just giving effort isn't enough - Suarez was head and shoulders above his teammates in quality for most of the season also...
ReplyDeleteto some extent i agree but suarez gives his all every game so i would keep him
ReplyDeletelol
ReplyDeletei want more than 40 million
ReplyDeletehe is better than bale . so it has to be more than £85m then clearly. cough up or judas stays
ReplyDeletebale is the diver not luis
ReplyDeletemore right and more informed that lpoolkop site that is for sure !
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure, because this first time of big spending, actually (and unfortunately) was the last (until now). But I hope that money from Suarez's transfer will return to the team. If not then we will not be able to compete and we will be a midtable team in an official way...
ReplyDelete
