Done Deal: €8m star who's like 'Xavi/Iniesta' to sign 4-year LFC contract. Excited?

Last week, Sevilla attacker Luis Alberto admitted he would be 'deluded to say no to a club like Liverpool', and reports today suggest that the deal to bring him to Anfield is complete.

When asked about Liverpool's interest last Sunday Alberto told reporters:

"It would be foolish and deluded for me to say no to a club like Liverpool, but as far as I know, there's nothing"

Last night, Alberto's Agent, Enrique Rosada, confirmed transfer talks between LFC and Sevilla were taking place. He tweeted:

"Liverpool's interest [in Luis Alberto] is a reality today but no firm offer [yet] in the offices of Sevilla FC".

It appears, however, that the two clubs have hammered out a deal, and according to The Mirror today:

"Liverpool reached an agreement with Sevilla to buy 20-year-old Alberto at the weekend, with the fee again thought to be around the £6m mark, and he will sign a four-year contract later this week".

Reports in Spain today corroborate these claims, with Spanish newspaper Estadio Deportivo reporting that Liverpool will pay £6.8m (€8m) up front, plus £1.7m (€2m) in performance-related add-ons.

Guillem Balague recently described 20-year old Alberto - who grabbed 11 goals and 17 assists for Barcelona B last season - as "a midfielder in the Xavi/Iniesta mould".

Sounds good to me. Welcome to Anfield!

  1. A good long term signing I reckon. Every side will need these types of players as football evolves away from the Big Man syndrome.

  2. Will he or would he play big part in starting line up as first team player .
I think he is one for future same like Borini is that the signing we really need or more established player????

I like the signing, now we have players who can all pick a pass, coutinho and Alberto in midfield, only 20 years old and coutinhos 21. Would be good to watch

    ReplyDelete
  7. Tiago llori also looks a superb CB, very classy on the ball, check him out!!!

    ReplyDelete
  8. Should he be able to have an impact equally to that of Coutinho and Sturridge, there will be a lot of joy for us (compared to the past few years) even as soon as next season.

    ReplyDelete
  9. If he's such a good player (Apparently he's Xavi/Iniesta kind), then why is he not in Spain's U-21 team or the U-20 team (Suso, Deulofeu, Tello are all in there). Don't get me wrong; he is good, but I don't want everyone to expect too much from him too early and start slating him when he doesn't settle down quickly.

  10. This is the 399th time that a deal has been agreed between LFC and Sevilla(once with barca as well ). Doesn't feel like news anymore. Why can't we wait till we get a picture of him holding the red jersey!

    ReplyDelete
  11. I agree. For once, the highlight reels show him defending! I get really annoyed when all they show is the guy scoring from corners and free kicks. Most of what we need him for is at the back. He seems VERY quick for a 6ft 3in CB.
Be good if he was like Sami up top too, but defending opposition balls esp corners free kicks and crosses is what we are after.

  12. yes please,This kid so talented.i prefer this kid to coutinho,he is so fast at dribbling and those are the dimensions of players we need in our team right now.i believe the signing of the arnenian is not worth it cause he is so expensive and that would kill young talents like suso etc.we need mignolent and illori.then if we keep Suarez, then we have our selves a champions league team.this season is supposed to be ours cause one of the top 3 teams will slip due to change in management. With Suarez at Anfield this season i see a very versatile team which nolonger depends on two or three players. All Rodgers signings have been superb and applicable. YNWA

  13. I agree. Although ,Spain is so strong that lots of players don't get picked. Michu for instance. Still did well in the PL.
He is still young though, that's why I said look out for him an a year or two once he settles down

  14. I think you're getting ahead of yourself, with respect.
The likes of this guy, Suso, Sterling, even Coutinho will have variable form whilst they develop. Mhkitaryan promises to be much more consistent and is already able to provide the goods at the higher levels, and crucially has experience on his side, something that none of the other signings so far can boast, apart of course from Toure.
Expecting these young players to carry the whole fight is not realistic imo - let them develop as part of and established backbone and they will fly!

    ReplyDelete
  15. one thing mike if hes playing in spain you would have thought they would have seen more of him than suso and would you pay 7million for suso tomorrow

    ReplyDelete
  16. The music on that video is absolutely fked.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Hope LFC is really keen in signing this boy. Oh man! If he turns out to be the next Sami Hyypia...

    ReplyDelete
  18. He is faster than Ronaldo and Nani, they put them through sprint tests at Sporting, he comes out as quicker than both of them. He is very composed for such a big lad, a real star for me.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Talking about Suso, I hope to see more of Suso in the coming season.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Suso took his chance quite well when he played last season ,then faded, which is my point. I would probably pay that much for him if he fitted in with the way I wanted the team to play longer term.
The point is, we will probably only get 1 in 2 players through to the 1st team overall, and we don't have another Suso in the youngsters so we will have to buy one. This will allow us to take care of the next season with more experienced players and build squad depth every season

    ReplyDelete
  21. what about all the new players we are signing ,it will limit his chances

    ReplyDelete
  22. Rodgers' plan is seemingly starting to shape....I must say it looks quite exciting

    ReplyDelete
  23. and this signing will further limit suso,s development ,we can only have so many subs ,and why did we not buy an experienced player 1st or are we having another transition season

    ReplyDelete
  24. I remember reports saying he is a replacement to shelvey, not sure if theres any truth to it or not.
Nothing against Jonjo but it would be nice to see BR making legitimate changes to the squad to players better suited to our system.
On another topic someone recently said to me how lacking LFC were with scoring from the attacking midfield position, With Hendo and Coutinho both taking the role mostly.
The question that was then posed to me was an odd one, "Would Charlie Adam have played the role better?" which i found amusing but i'd like to hear others opinion on it

    ReplyDelete
  25. ...wait how many years have been transitional years? was the last one our 2nd or 3rd?
surely another 2-3 and we'll sort it out :P

    ReplyDelete
  26. Sorry Jason, but you're not making any sense.
This guy is probably BEHIND Suso in his development for the PL, how can he be limiting him?
And if you sign an experience player for Suso's position instead, then does that not limit him more?

    ReplyDelete
  27. and what shape would that be,to hear some fans you would think he was rinus michels

    ReplyDelete
  28. On another unrelated note, Am i the only person who read Pique's recent comments about Mourinho and thought Stuck up prat?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Give it a rest Jason. The plan is now obvious. If he fails with it, he'll be out.

    ReplyDelete
  30. so we have just paid 7million for someone who is behind suso ,lol7million for someone to cover someone who hardly gets a game, and the experienced player would have put pressure on downing among others

    ReplyDelete
  31. whats obvious? we buy potential players ,we play football we attack well and do not defend for toffee what is this rodgers masterplan ,have we moved on from chicken takka ,to the main course ,football is aneasy game complacated by people who think they invented the ball

    ReplyDelete
  32. Mr. Point Of View2:47 pm, June 17, 2013

it seem BR focus lot of "similarity" among those new signing.

    ReplyDelete
  33. an astute bit of buisness then;-)

    ReplyDelete
  34. agree why have ten back up players for the attackers and struggle to cover other positions

    ReplyDelete
  35. Its not obvious, i shouldnt be telling everyone this but i think its time everyone knows!
Joe Allen did not have shoulder surgery, FSG have recently spent approx 25,000,000 (which came out of our transfer budget) to make Mr Allen BIONIC!!
    watch out next season everyone!!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Mr. Point Of View2:50 pm, June 17, 2013

dude, just hope BR know what he doin.

    ReplyDelete
  37. god how prices have risen i remember when you could do it for $6 million dollars

    ReplyDelete
  38. Good God.

I said in terms of PL development, it takes some time to adjust, that's not an assessment of their relative abilities. I think he's looking a better player fundamentally than Suso

IF we wait another year for players like him to become established, we will pay a LOT more for them IF we can get them at all. He'll be like Isco, who we enquired about, but who will go to a Real, Barca, City type club, and he'll be out of reach.

Imagine getting Mata a year before he broke into the La Liga scene for £7m. THAT'S what we are looking to do.
Downing is already under pressure. Especially from Mhkitarayan

    ReplyDelete
  39. apparently they charged extra to make him SUPER SLOW-MO.
so i dunno how hes gonna go defending the counter attack but he'll look amazing doing it

    ReplyDelete
  40. sorry, but this isn't england's U21 team where jonjo shelveys can easily get into

    ReplyDelete
  41. Replacement to Jonjo? lol. Surplus are not replaced.

    ReplyDelete
  42. it seems obvious to the authors of countless articles I've read about our activities in the transfer market.
It seems obvious to me, and no doubt a sizeable number of people here on this site who have an open mind and who are not trying to justify their pet hate eg( Rodgers or FSG)
We are getting ball playing options throughout the side. That includes the back 4 . We are buying players a' la Dortmund, and developing a side to take on the big spenders in the PL.
We are getting rid (hopefully) of high wage earners who have failed to justify their expenditure. (Carroll, poss Downing, Skrytl) That will happen to Allen too, if he fails to improve.
We are chasing the likes of Mhkitarayan and Popadoupoulous to repair the spine of the team .
And we want two realistic players for every position on the field.
    Clear enough for you?
You try to deride tiki- taka which Spain used yesterday to destroy a decent Uruguay side, which Rodgers only mentioned once over a year ago, and which he only partially adopted at Liverpool, not having the players top make it work here at LFC.
But I predict that style will be a higher percentage of our tactics from next season on.
AND IF HE FAILS- HE'S OUT.

    ReplyDelete
  43. £6 million sounds like a good price to me!

    ReplyDelete
  44. liverpool4life5653:22 pm, June 17, 2013

Lol. Always the same with you,"do not defend" erm who got the second most clean sheets in the prem? Oh yeah us. Also you saw Spain yesterday same style Uruguay couldn't get near them, so "football is an easy game complicated by people who think they invented the ball" yeah so playing normal no style would stop Spain? no. You create a style which is hard to beat.:-)

    ReplyDelete
  45. I see red people3:41 pm, June 17, 2013

Suso is a great talent but think he will end up the same as Pacheco. Can't see Suso making the grade at first team level.

Luis Alberto is of very little risk at £7 million and the fact that Barcelona had first option to sign him does give you an idea that he has bags of potential and it is not like our scouts have been watching him for a month, we must have had our eye on Luis Alberto for a while now.

That is what I like about our new transfer policy. It is not down to one person on who joins and endless research gets done before we make our discision on players under the new regime. If Rafa was still here we would have had 11 Aquilani's walking out onto the pitch on matchday :-o

    ReplyDelete
  46. i totally agree with what your saying about getting them a year before the other clubs ,just with our record the majority turnout to be duds ,and we have not got a spare £7million to risk

    ReplyDelete
  47. but we are not spain we do not have the same class of players ,so it tends to backfire the only player we have who fits i nto there style is allen ,and thats only because of his nickname

    ReplyDelete
  48. I see red people4:01 pm, June 17, 2013

Every transfer is a risk Jason but £7 million on a player at the age of 20 with bags of potential is a calculated risk. Stop whining.

    ReplyDelete
  49. well m8 with our recent history i suggest some one gets a new calculator

    ReplyDelete
  50. I see red people4:05 pm, June 17, 2013

    Grow up.

You will be eating humble pie when Allen proves you wrong. FACT :-)

    ReplyDelete
  51. the fact is that by rights allen should not even get the chance to prove me wrong, unless there is a injury crisis at anfield ,but no doubt his fairy godfather will work his magic

    ReplyDelete
  52. A very fast Sami Hyypia too!

    ReplyDelete
  53. liverpool4life5654:09 pm, June 17, 2013

Your correct we are not spain, but we are buying players who like that style. Coutinho,Allen, suso,Alberto,Mkhitaryan, aspas, then our front three would fit in well too. We are starting off, BR is doing a good job recruiting.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I see red people4:09 pm, June 17, 2013

Our recent history. Are you talking about Houllier, Rafa and Kenny's transfer dealings?

Compare it to how we have done things in the previos two transfer windows and it will show that we are actually spending money prudently.

    ReplyDelete
  55. liverpool4life5654:12 pm, June 17, 2013

Allen is 22, he done well when he came in injury cut short his season, next season he will have a pre season behind him. Give the guy a break.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Supposedly Rodgers didn't want Assaidi (hence one of the reasons why he rarely played).

    ReplyDelete
  57. come on m8 rodgers signing last summer were not successful

    ReplyDelete
  58. oh no so if he did not want him who signed him ,he was supposed to be in charge of the transfers

    ReplyDelete
  59. last season he had a pre season and if injury had not cut short is season, and rodgers had carried on starting him rodgers would probably be out of a job now

    ReplyDelete
  60. if allen gets straight back in the team rodgers wants sacking end of

    ReplyDelete
  61. liverpool4life5655:07 pm, June 17, 2013

No he never? He was at the Olympics, and done very well there, he played alot of games, Allen has has potential to be a good player, because he faded in the season doesn't mean he bad, liverpool have always had players like that, Lucas, hendo, downing, then got better, it was a big move for him from Swansea to Liverpool. Takes time for players to adjust.

    ReplyDelete
  62. liverpool4life5655:09 pm, June 17, 2013

He won't get straight back into the team but he will play games too. Rodgers doesn't favour no one he has dropped Allen to the bench and started hendo. Allen has fight in him he isn't lazy he wants to succeed at liverpool and he will :-)

    ReplyDelete
  63. I think he's a good signing and I think there will be many players that are going to be offloaded because they do not follow the tiki-taka style of play and do not suit it. A few have already left on free transfers and there are many that are going to leave this summer or in the January window. I hope this season works out for BR or he's gonna be kicked for sure.

    ReplyDelete
  64. I see red people5:15 pm, June 17, 2013

Did you expect Allen and Borini to be successful in their first season?

Both are still young and have more than enough time to prove their worth. Both do not even have a full season under their belt at Anfield yet.

I am not putting a tiimeline on it but Allen will prove you wrong, MARK MY WORDS.

    ReplyDelete
  65. why is carroll having a medical at west ham they have had him for a season ,bit late now

    ReplyDelete
  66. i expect to see a glimpse of hope at 15million

    ReplyDelete
  67. rodgers kept dropping hendo to accomadate allen and every time it back fired ,so no doubt he will do the same again

    ReplyDelete
  68. liverpool4life5655:44 pm, June 17, 2013

And then he dropped Allen, next season I don't think neither Allen or hendo will get into the team anyway :)

    ReplyDelete
  69. henderson was in the top 5 performers imo last season and he deserves his chance

    ReplyDelete
  70. liverpool4life5655:55 pm, June 17, 2013

But if we sign Mkhitaryan he would take hendo place... Who more clinical scoring wise :)

    ReplyDelete
  71. why would he ,why would he not take downing,s place he can play on the wing,or he may be used just behind the striker and take borinis place he can play in a few different positions

    ReplyDelete
  72. looking for excuses to reduce the amount to pay him i guess :P

    ReplyDelete
  73. liverpool4life5657:08 pm, June 17, 2013

Our midfield would be Gerrard,Lucas, coutinho, up top, Sturridge, aspas,Mkhitaryan, and the deal seems straight forward not a done deal atm :) just need to pay 20 million(his realease clause) then sort out wages :)

    ReplyDelete
  74. Transfer Committee.

He played Joe Allen into the ground and we all know he wanted him.

He barely played Assaidi at all. And I've read between the lines as well as elsewhere (although I can't find a link now in all honesty) that Assaidi was a transfer committee signing.

Heaven forbid someone actually say that Brendan Rodgers wasn't at fault for something that went wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  75. He was our best player earlier on. Plus Borini and Allen put together will not lose when sold as much as Carroll. £20m Downing anyone?

    ReplyDelete
  76. Good luck spelling it lol

    ReplyDelete
  77. Juan Mata came from the Secunda at 20 and didn't score half as many. It's all about how they train on, to use a horseracing metaphor...

    ReplyDelete
  78. mate, stop acting like a man ure fan, wait until the transfer window opens, see who comes in, then make a judgement you sock puppet.

    ReplyDelete
  79. um i was joking?

    ReplyDelete
  80. I'd rather take the gamble on a talented youngster then wait for someone else to do it and pay them 10 times as much for the same kid a year or two later thats for sure

    ReplyDelete
  81. agree!!! lovely to watch him playing! very much compose on the ball..would be really good signing!

    ReplyDelete
  82. maybe if rodgers had given carrol a chance we would not be taking such a big hit on him

    ReplyDelete
  83. the transfer committee was not around at the time, rodgers insisted he had full control of transfers

    ReplyDelete
  84. its the way you tell them;-)

    ReplyDelete
  85. i was joking m8 i could not afford the lettering lol

    ReplyDelete
  86. its fine doing it sometimes but you cannot do it all the time

    ReplyDelete
  87. The fact that Barcelona had first option to sign him, and didn't is a slight concern.

    ReplyDelete
  88. should be a decent signing. in the countinho mould.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Kenny said the same... yet Comolli was fired first...

    ReplyDelete
  90. rodgers said before he cane he would only cime if he had total control of the transfers

    ReplyDelete
  91. If we won the league you'd still have something to mean and bitch about....This is a honest question why do you support LFC?

    ReplyDelete
  92. i have supported this great club all my life ,it just seems nowadays we expect any old crap, and fans are quite happy to go along with it ,well i am not up the revolution

    ReplyDelete
  93. I dont either and I hate to see where the club is right now but,we are showing signs that we may get back to where we belong but all I ever see is you giving out about something or other,I get you're unhappy with where the club is but complaining isn't going to make it any better, its just counter-productive

    ReplyDelete
