Transfer Swap: Reds flop wanted as part of deal for €30m star. Let him go...?

Liverpool continue to pursue Sporting Lisbon defender Tiago Ilori, and after weeks of negotiation, it looks like the Reds may be on the verge of coming to an agreement with the Primeira Liga club.

After having a €5m bid for the 6'3 defender rejected recently, Liverpool put in a second offer of €7m for Ilori on Monday, and according to Portuguese newspaper O Jogo today, Sporting are willing to accept the deal, but only if:

* Assaidi goes to Sporting on loan.
* Liverpool continue to pay his salary.

Sounds like a no-brainer to me. From a financial point of view, LFC paying Assaidi's salary whilst he's on loan is not the most enticing prospect, but the alternative is to pay the Moroccan to sit on the bench at Anfield, so what's the difference? In my view, there are many positives to this deal:

* Solves one part of the central defensive puzzle.
* Assaidi probably gets to play more, which will improve him.
* Puts Assaidi in the shop window, and if he plays well, his value could increase.
* benchwarmer replaced with a potential first-teamer, which improves the squad overall.

Ilori has a €30m buyout clause in his contract, and Liverpool's increased €7m bid will also include €800k in performance-related bonuses.

Ilori is only two games into his senior Sporting career, but he has already tasted success at Sporting - he played in the Sporting B team that won the national title last year; the same team also competed in the NextGen tournament against Liverpool, and beat the Reds 3-0.

Despite his height, Ilori is one of the fasted players in the Portuguese League, and in tests conducted at the the club's Alcochete Academy, he recently broke the club's sprint records previously held Nani and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Liverpool have a good relationship with Sporting - The club already poached Joao Teixeira, and the scouting team is also tracking Ilori's team-mate, Bruma.

in other (web) news Robben swap for Suarez. How that sound?

sorry cant mention which web due to respect not advertise other ppl thing at here.

  2. Robben is a dirty cheat and I could never respect him after his dive when Reina touched him. Doubt there is any truth to it anyway

    ReplyDelete
  3. I don't see it happening :D

    Besides I hate Robben

  4. 7 million plus a fair million in wages for Assaidi for a player who has played two matches for his current club seems a lot of money to me. Then again, I was also the guy who said 12 million was too much for Sturridge and now I'm saying he was our transfer of the season :-)

    ReplyDelete
  5. Suarez sale will free 40mil. no brainer but to sell. Another 15mil for AC, we should be able to get a couple of good footballers. with that money.

    ReplyDelete
  6. I believe this is a very good deal. Rodgers is not a lover of Assaidi and , as has been shown, is quite loathe to play him - He has never started a PL game. It would do Assaidi good to play regular football as I am one of the fans who believes that he does have an appreciable talent. That talent will not be shown whilst he is at Anfield I fear. Perhaps he will be one of the first to show the FSG policy of buying low to sell later at a profit? After all they said that was an arm of their business strategy.
All in all I think it is a sound proposition to go for this deal and it enables us to take in much needed talent at a much needed reasonable price. Good business all round ?

    ReplyDelete
  7. Surely that should be Robben plus 40 million quid?

    ReplyDelete
  8. One diver for another. Where's the upside? Robben is worse that Suarez in that respect though. Would hate to see Robben at LFC.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Robben too selfish too old for the clubs policy will never happen.

    ReplyDelete
  10. I'm not sure I want to lose an outstanding footballer to buy a few good ones. Would Barca sell Messi to buy Vertonghen, Dembele and Benteke?

    ReplyDelete
  11. An absolute no brainer as far as I can see. Bayern are looking to off load an ageing player along with a small sum and if anyone in Anfield boardroom wants this deal then they have well and truly fallen out of their tree.

    ReplyDelete
  12. why loan assaidi and pay is wages just get rid if rodgers doe,s not want him ,why waste more money on him

    ReplyDelete
  13. maybe no one wants him ? and lets not forget he did have some quality sitting on the bench wasted it and his wage is not high win win deal if he finds good form id choose him over downing anyday :D

    ReplyDelete
  14. apart from diving we also are replacing a young pacy person with an old man on extremly high wages

    ReplyDelete
  15. rodgers bought him and feels loathed to play him lol what a waste of money i hope rodgers starts doing the same thing with allen and borinni as well

    ReplyDelete
  16. if no one wants him why the f"ck did we buy him;-)

    ReplyDelete
  17. I don't want Robben anywhere near our club. They call Suaréz a cheat, then what is Robben? He spends more time on the deck than actually playing. Furthermore, he isn't really rated by many Bayern supporters, too. It may sound a bit harsh to call him that as he is a good player anyway, but they can keep their dead wood.

    ReplyDelete
  18. my gut tells me he was bought just as a squad player but his weak frame did not give rodgers the confidence to play him

    ReplyDelete
  19. No Barca won't sell Messi. Suarez has disgraced the club. He must go. Bad comparison pal.

    ReplyDelete
  20. This is such a good deal for all parties imo. Assaidi gets time to play / improve. LFC get rid of a benchwarmer and Replace him with a player that might actually get a look in. and Sporting get a winger for nothing. Lets do it.

so true, even he did it in CL but his moment is gone

    ReplyDelete
  22. although i hate robben to call him dead wood is harsh he would walk into our team

    ReplyDelete
  23. we do not have money to waste on squad players lol

    ReplyDelete
  24. its a bit tought to call assaidi a flop he hasnt really been given much chances and he keeps adel taarabt on the bench for morroco national team so he must be good

    ReplyDelete
  25. i dunno that 22m mhiktaryan deal indepedent of suarez trandfer :P

    ReplyDelete
  26. Clearly Rodgers doesn't plan on playing Assaidi, so we may as well let him go on loan. He may come back a different player.

    ReplyDelete
  27. according to the echo it is dependent on the suarez transfer,so who knows ,you would think the echo would have some decent inside knowledge

    ReplyDelete
  28. Find someone to take assaidi, apparently there was abit of interest for him with we got him so surely someone in the dutch league would be will to take a punt for 2-3 mil.
then take half of it and add it to the bid. that way we get the player he wants and a little extra cash

    ReplyDelete
  29. I would rather eat my own face than see Robben anywhere near our great club! Saying that, I think he has improved, he doesn't dive as much. Unfortunately he is still to selfish and does make the wrong decisions

    ReplyDelete
  30. Insted of robben give us muller

    ReplyDelete
  31. no thats the logical way out ,lets loan himout for 3 years pay him a few million in wages then give him a golden handshake and a free transfer

    ReplyDelete
  32. dont know whim to trust these days lol

    ReplyDelete
  33. almost aquilani style........nice

    ReplyDelete
  34. you got to admit aquilani would be good in our 433

    ReplyDelete
  35. i dont like to think about players that have left us, sometimes it makes me cry

not easy for loan assaidi out due to visa permit things

    ReplyDelete
  37. i do not believe anything till they sign that contravt at anfield even then i,am sceptic;-)

    ReplyDelete
  38. get ready for a few tears this summer then;-)

    ReplyDelete
  39. Good player, lousy team mate. Robben only does it when it suits him .
No thanks. We'll take Muller if anyone.

Good deal, assaidi is on 30-40kK a week, brought for 3.2 million or less, he can increase his vale out there to 7-8 million, and we get a good defender.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Exactly! Although if we get Ince back, we will probably end up paying loads for him.

    ReplyDelete
  42. YAWN...and no I'm not dyslexic

    ReplyDelete
  43. Unlike Suaréz you'd at least eat your own face instead of someone else's arm :-)

He did cost Bayern dearly in the past, and could have cost them in this year's CL final, too. I really don't like him and would have Suaréz eat his face should he sign for us.

    ReplyDelete
  44. The "I" in "TEAM" is in the A-hole. Says it all.

Müller has a very unconventional style, but seems full of energy. A better version of Kuyt perhaps. If I was to pick one of their players, it would be Neuer, though.

    ReplyDelete
  45. That's what I've written in my comment. It is harsh to call him dead-wood. And walking is all I would expect of him, if he'd be in our team. He'd leave the running to the others.

    ReplyDelete
  46. As far as I know he holds a Dutch passport. No work permit or visa required within the EU.

    ReplyDelete
  47. with absolute ease. and every1 is talking rubbish, short term, every1 would love to see robben at liverpool. easily get 20 goals a season and assists.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I wish. One of my fave current players.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Regardless of whether Assaidi returned a different player, Rodgers would still not play him.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Mr. Point Of View1:24 pm, June 05, 2013

but that Moroccan were not holding same passport u were

    apologize for that !

    ReplyDelete
  53. Imagine Robben and Sturridge playing together. Who will pass? lol

    ReplyDelete
  54. How can they pass when they're both lying on the floor?

    ReplyDelete
  55. Suarez will teach some 'hand' play before leaving. :D

    ReplyDelete
  56. No need to apologize! You didn't do any harm.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Previous evidence suggests otherwise.

Henderson, Downing. yes they didn't leave but they bench warmed for a while.

    ReplyDelete
  58. of cause i know thats why i said get rid its no coincidence every decent game we had last year was whilst allen was on the bench we could be 4/0 up as soon as he came on we stopped scoring

    ReplyDelete
  59. ho very funny you crack me up ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  60. I fear that you still don't get it. I give in.

    ReplyDelete
  61. if a player is good and can make a difference to the team rodgers plays them my guess is assaidi took things for granted

    ReplyDelete
  62. This is definitely the funniest comment I ever see in this blog.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I don`t know enough about the fella to tell if we should get the guy or not. Anyway seen much of him and care to inform me of what he is like?

In terms of a deal tho, and if the guy is really good then its a great deal to me. Assaidi hasnt played enough for us to tell if he is any good or not, so a season on loan may help him show what he is all about again, and if he does well we can then decide on if we keep him or sell him for a profit. Sitting on the bench all season can only reduce his value more.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Yeah im a fan of Ince too. I would like it if we could get him.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Yeah to say the very least ;)

    ReplyDelete
  66. robben is a poor man's gareth bale, he's good, but i don't want him at LFC.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Thats when he is playing too old too many injuries and is getting slow he would be ordinary in Liverpools side.

    ReplyDelete
  68. dont talk about injuries sturridge is a sicknote

    ReplyDelete
  69. Suarez is young but Robben is way faster than him without. Suarez is a better player overall but still Robben is one of the fastest wingers right now.

    ReplyDelete
  70. for 10 min yeah then he gets tired ........ and also robben doesnt track back to help defence

    ReplyDelete
  71. Robben getting assists wtf 20 goals that wont happen he is finished pal may as well bring back Barnes.
Part of a deal for Suarez you are kidding dont want Bayerns or Reals rubbish SHOW ME THE MONEY.

    ReplyDelete
  72. such deals only happen on april fools day and we ain't in april....lol. A 29 yr old for a 26yr old....

    ReplyDelete
  73. Did you watch the Champions League final mate?
That run in the 90th minute!!
You're saying 10 mins like he is Joe Cole or something. He is an important member of a treble winning team, don't think what's your gripe!

    ReplyDelete
  74. ok i agree that 1 solitary run in 90th minute what happened to the remaining 89 minutes ?

    ReplyDelete
  75. I hope you understand that if he scores in the 90th minute then he was actually running for the whole 90 mins otherwise he would have been subbed off. And he also had one more assist in the final. 1 assist, 1 goal in the champs league final, but you still want more from him!!
P.S: He was Netherlands best player in the WC final in 2010 and was through on goal twice, once pulled back by Puyol and once denied by a great save. If you think he doesnt have pace , just ask Puyol ;)

    ReplyDelete
  76. get your facts straight he was average player of the wc including it was sneijder who did everything right and he was the biggest flop in euros go ask all of his teamates and go see the cl finals again he passes to his team mates 1 in 10 passes

    ReplyDelete
  77. All i said was that he is faster than Suarez , now you're saying he doesn't pass. That's a different story altogether. Three points for you:
    1) Robben is faster than Suarez.
    2) He can play 90 mins without any problem.
    3) He'll replace Stewart Downing at LFC(if he chooses to come), so he is going to be a massive upgrade and improve our team undoubtedly.

    ReplyDelete
  78. hw will never move stop dreaming fsg wont sanction it start becoming a realist

    ReplyDelete
  79. I know he won't, but that doesn't make him a lesser player.

    ReplyDelete
  80. i never said he was a lesser player i said he was an old man

    ReplyDelete
  81. You said he gets tired after 10 mins, not exactly characteristics of a great player is it?
And he is 29! If you think that's old then fine, but for me he has still got at least 3 full seasons at this level.

    ReplyDelete
  82. well he does actually and he never tracks back always stands in the forward lines ......but yeah when u need he is ready to bust a lung (but not pass :P )

    ReplyDelete
