'It's possible' - Unhappy £29m Barca star wants to 'leave on loan'. Chance for LFC...?

Last summer, Spanish newspaper AS claimed that Liverpool put in a £7.5m bid for Barcelona starlet Gerard Deulofeu, and after struggling to break into Barca's first team, the young attacker appears to have finally admitted defeat in his quest to make it at the Nou Camp. Could this be an opportunity for the Reds to snap him up?

The signing of Brazilian star Neymar means Deulofeu will be pushed even further down the pecking order, and when asked about his future last night, the Spaniard admitted he may have to move on. He told reporters:

“It [a summer transfer] is possible

"I look at the first team, but it is complicated. I’ll talk to the club and see what the best decision is.

"If I leave on loan I can earn minutes playing for another club and follow my professional dream.”

Deulofeu recently signed a new contract with Barcelona, and the club upped his €8m buyout clause to €35m (£29m). With that in mind, it seems strange that less than a month later, he's actively considering leaving the club.

If Rodgers wanted Deulofeu last summer, it's conceivable that he may still be interested, and a loan deal to bolster Liverpool's squad could be a good move.

Deulofeu grabbed 18 goals in 27appearances for Barcelona B last season. A viable option? Would he come to Liverpool?

  1. Looks like Liverpool have become the safe haven for Barcelona rejects. Looks good; but how much can we tell from youtube.

Do we need anymore players who play up top? If we sign aspas and henrikh, then we would have them, borini,Sturridge,Suarez, downing, coutinho, sterling, also we have few youth players who can come in aswell....

  3. On loan, no! We are not Barcelona's farm team. Should he be good enough and the price be right, a permanent transfer would do.

  4. Could be great if Alberto signs with us, make a loan option a bit more appealing for him. (if they are friends)??

  5. I somehow have that feeling that Downing won't be playing to prominent a role for us next season. As you put it rightly, IF we sign Aspas and Mkhitaryan, which is, at least in the latter's case, a very big if. Not sure whether or not Suaréz will still be with us come September and I wouldn't trust Sterling as a regular just yet. He still is a kid. That leaves us with Borini, who still has plenty to prove, Coutinho and Sturridge, who seems to be somewhat injury-prone. Yes, we may well add to that without necessarily blocking the way for our own youngsters. Whether that has to be Deulofeu is another question I can hardly answer.

  6. I still harp on defense...because we need it more than offense right now. However, this kid has the size and at 19 he's already good. I wouldn't call a 19 year-old a 'Barca reject.' He wants bigger things for himself and with Neymar being bought for a bazilion dollars, it doesn't look like he's going to get that at Barca any time soon. Probably cheaper thanlots of other strikers...still like Benteke though.

  7. I saw DEULOFEU play in a youth tournament and thought he looked rubbish.I was disappointed because the commentator kept banging on about how good he is and went over board when he played a simple pass.
He gave the ball away with unsuccessful dribbles a truck load of times.SPAIN won the tournament.I'd give it a miss but he could've just had a bad tournament

  8. it is horrid. I really like the home kit, but that Away kit is shocking. It would look better if they took out all the diamond shaped bits and the black bit at the bottom. However then its basically just the England kit.

  9. I'd prefer to avoid taking on players on loan unless there is an option to buy.

After we saw what happened with Sahin, Rodgers was disinclined to play him, in part because he didn't have a long term future here.

We need to bring in someone who has at least an opportunity at a long term stay.

And that goes for anyone we are looking at.

  11. TOTALLY OFFTOPIC. CAPSLOCK IMPORTANT! ALL RISE AGAINST WARRIOR DESIGN OF OUR NEW AWAY SHIRTS! ITS WORSE THAN NEW EVERTON LOGO!

god christ allmighty.... how ugly are those things....

  12. On a side-note, I think the club have shot themselves in the foot by changing to Warrior. Whenever I go to any city in Germany I enter the big department stores and sports shops, basically to blow my nose on manure shirts. Since we have Warrior no Liverpool shirts can be bought. No kids will go through the shirts and buy it because they like the bird or something.

  13. I just saw them and...just....wow!

Looks like the plan is to get the other team to think the circus came to town and be more complacent. In that case, its genius!

  14. Have just noticed that this strange design goes together very well with Agger's tattooed arm.

  15. why so many attacking players.. we need defensive mids and center backss..

  16. Not sure he'd get that many more chances with us really. If he was really that good, they wouldn't be buying Neymar.

  17. Rumours are, we are after Rakitic. I liked him at Schalke; but haven't seen him since he moved to Sevilla. At 12 mil he could be a solid buy; but so are most players we are linked to.

  18. We have Borini already :-)

  19. Sorry, but he's no Barcelona reject. He's the next big talent in Spain, an a future star.

No offence, but he's simply too good for Liverpool. If he's forced out, it will be to somewhere like Borussia Dortmund, Manchester United, or at the least AC Milan maybe. And very unlikely he will be forced out anyway. Dortmund want him on loan, and that's probably what will happen.

  20. There is a difference between Tello and Borini

    ReplyDelete
  21. you know the second i read the first 6 words of your comment i immediately agreed.
Just because he hasnt broken into the team yet doesnt make him a reject, he's 19 and trying to break into the best attacking team in the world.
Quality player who should turn out to be a world class player for someone

  22. I think it's actually an optical illusion.

Pretty sure I can see a ship somewhere in the design.

  23. This is off topic but can someone explain to me who exactly owns Bojan Krkic? I was under the impression that Barca sold him to Roma with a buy back option, next thing i know he was loaned from Roma to Milan but the Buy-back option was still in effect so Barca could buy him back if they wanted.
Now im seeing that Milan are trying to negotiate with Barca to take the player permanently, Have i missed something? Doesnt he belong to Roma?

    ReplyDelete
  24. We have also agreed a fee for the Sevilla attacking midfielder on loan, we just have to wait to see whether Barca take up their option on him. I feel Downing will be loaned out but it does put into question whether Rodgers plans to use Suso (who IMO would do good with a full season on loan), Yesil, Morgan, Ibe etc. They need cup games but with so many forward players will they get them? That includes Sterling who may end up with less minutes this season due to a deeper squad and no European games.

  25. this is what i was saying last week when we were supposed to buy that other young player from barca if he was any good they would have done the same as they have with bojan but was shot down as usual

    ReplyDelete
  26. So who actually owns Bojan? I didnt see much of him this season at Milan but the season before when he was at Roma i got to see alot of him and lets just say im happy we got Borini instead of him lol.
But yeah im confused because ive done a quick google n it says Roma bought him but now barca are negoiating with milan over him. Weird deals

when downing was peak at boro which position he playing??? is AM ??

  28. I believe in allegedly agreed deals as soon as they appear on the club's website. And why on loan?

Would make next to no sense to loan out Downing. The only way I say that it would make sense is that absolutely no-one is willing to buy him AND that we have so many players in his position available, that he wouldn't even make the bench.

Agree with you about sending Suso out on loan, and some of the other youngsters, too. But they must be sent to clubs where they actually get game-time on a very regular basis.

  29. They have a different name? I was kidding, though :-)

  30. I think it's a Premiership trophy you see :-)

  31. Henrikh is a midfielder. That guy from Udinese we were linked with looks pretty good too. But I agree our first focus should be on our backline and DM

  32. who cares only the very sad grammer boffins like you

    ReplyDelete
  33. do not know who owns him but barca have left there options open

    ReplyDelete
  34. I'm confused too but it seems like, in a way, that Roma didn't buy him outright like a normal transfer. It is a unorthodox deal, see the link at the bottom.

Came across this bit from Galliani in November:

"We now have the first option to buy out Bojan from Barcelona.
Roma doesn’t have it anymore. We paid Roma to loan Bojan, and then I went to Barcelona to create a buy-out clause because there wasn’t any to begin with. When Roma sold Bojan their buy-out clause also vanished, so we signed Bojan in a pure loan deal. I called Sandro Rosell and paid a certain amount to get a first option. Bojan is on loan here with a buy-out clause, which is much lower than the clause Roma had.”

    Barca VP said this:

"We sold Bojan to Roma for 12 million euros, and are obliged to resign him for 13m euros in the summer of 2013. However, Roma then decided to send him on loan to Milan,"

"Milan really wanted an option to make Bojan's stay at the club permanent. So Milan have the option to buy him at the end of the season, when he is due to return to Barca.

"However, we can block Milan's option to sign him. I can not not disclose any more information on this, though, as Milan have asked for it to remain confidential."

  35. Bojan has been disappointing in Italy i really hope Liverpool leave him be, Deulofeu too its about time to bring in some muscle into the team.

  36. Sorry, I completely didn't mean that mind was in another place. I meant to say Sterling could potentially be loaned out (I expect Downing to go) but with so many forward players like the ones mentioned above I don't know where the youth products will fit in.

My previous message was a case of thinking about Downing whilst writing about Sterling haha.

    ReplyDelete
  37. No problem at all.

As things stand, we don't have that many senior forward players. I won't include players that allegedly will join us. We have Suaréz, Borini, Carroll, Sturridge plus the youngsters Morgan and Yesil. I don't think them two kids are close to anything resembling regular first-team action. They may become good one day, but now they seem to be way, way too lightweight. Of the other four two are rumoured to be moving elsewhere. Pretty sure that Carroll doesn't have a future with us so that would leave us with three forwards in case Suaréz stays with us.

As for wide forward players, well, we have Downing, who is an average player, Assaidi, who doesn't play that much and a whole lot of kids. Coutinho is rather one of the midfield three, methinks.

Well, I don't think we have that many forward players and could surely do with a few more without blocking the way for our own youth products.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I understand where you are coming from but since Rodgers seems intent on playing variations of a 4-3-3 and with Gerrard and Lucas nailing down two midfield positions with Allen and Henderson vying for the other spot and (if Suarez stays) he's almost a guaranteed starter with summer acquisitions the route to first team football seems pretty blocked off. I'm not saying don't buy more players but I don't know how Rodgers is going to balance this.

Essentially there is competition for 2 of the 3 forward positions, and since we play variations of 4-3-3 that means Sturridge, Downing, Coutinho, Aspas, Alberto and if they don't leave on loan Sterling and Suso are competing for 2 spots. Even if Downing and Suarez leave we will likely replace them with more than two attacking players leaving even less of a route to the first team. I haven't even included Assaidi who I also expect to leave. I guess we have to wait and see, but I would be disappointed if our young players didn't see similar progress as this season, perhaps last year they were forced into the first team because of injury and lack of depth but I would still like to see them play.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Well, I actually wouldn't be surprised if Allen was sold. There have been zero rumours about it, but, well, I think it's possible. Anyway, I see our first midfield three as Lucas-Gerrard-Coutinho with Henderson, Allen the back-up and maybe Coady being the youngster brought on a few times, too. Shelvey doesn't seem to quite hack it, that's why I left him out.

The front three, without the likes of Aspas and Alberto, whose deals are nothing more than rumours may look like this. First front three: Suaréz (or his replacement)-Sturridge-any of Borini, Suso, Sterling with Yesil and Morgan getting maybe 5 sub appearances each in the league. Suso and Sterling are, as I've said, youngsters and probably not players we yet rely on to change games for us and have a huge impact. Well, I've assumed that Downing won't be with us come September, too.

A lot of assumptions, I know, but that's how I see it, and that looks a rather thin squad to me with, at least up front, room for one starter to be brought in and another back-up.

It doesn't look that much better at the back. We are loaded at right-back, but, given that Skrtel and Coates don't seem to have too much of a future with us, we have two senior centre-halfs in Toure and Agger. Plus one senior left-back in Enrique with Robinson being the only back-up.

I can tell you what we don't need. It's a right-back. And we probably don't need any central midfielders, though I'd like to see a decent back-up or upgrade on Lucas being brought in, too.
