Anfield-bound? - €9m star admits he'd be 'foolish to say no to LFC transfer

Liverpool have been strongly linked with Sevilla attacker Luis Alberto several times over the last month, and over the weekend, he confirmed that a move to Anfield is very enticing.

Last week, reports in Spain claimed that Liverpool were on the verge of sealing a deal for Alberto, and according to Mundo Deportivo on Sunday:

* Sevilla need money, and are willing to listen to offers.

* Brendan Rodgers has been tracking Alberto 'for years'.

* Sevilla have already rejected the Reds' opening €6m bid.

* The Spanish club is holding out for €9m, but may compromise for €8m.

When asked about Liverpool's interest on Sunday evening, Alberto told reporters:

"It would be foolish and deluded for me to say no to a club like Liverpool, but as far as I know, there's nothing"

20-year old Alberto - who grabbed 11 goals and 17 assists for Barcelona B last season - confirmed his Nou Camp departure on Twitter. He said:

"Today I say goodbye to this club [Barcelona]. It was an unforgettable year. I want to thank everyone for your support from day one. Thank you all"

Discussing Alberto's future in April, Sevilla chief Ramon Rodriguez told reporters:

"It seems unlikely that Barcelona will pay. Not only the €4 million asn it is a rather high amount. The ball is in the court of Barcelona, but in my mind, Alberto will return and this year will serve to develop him for the first team."

Rodgers claimed he'd also tracked Coutinho for a number of years, and look how that transfer turned out. Alberto's comments certainly bod well for the Reds, but it remains to be seen if a fee can be agreed.

  2. Would like to get some honest opinion from someone who watched this guy constantly this season, except YouTube videos I've absolutely no idea about this guy...

  3. I am impressed with Liverpool's transfer dealing, Liverpool need young hungry players who want to play for the club, not money grabbing mercenaries signing for little clubs with rich owners like what city and chelsea are doing.

Was not good enough to be included in the Spain U20s, Barca passed on taking him for €4mill, but I live in hope.

Nope only on YouTube videos :-) but if BR scouted him for a long time hopefully he has same impact as coutinho did :-)

  10. His record this season is impressive even if it is the second tier of Spanish football,He could be one to watch if we dont end up getting him

  11. I guess that's what we're all hoping. That every future signing has the same impact coutinho did!

  12. Would this signing possibly mean Erikson or Mkhitaryan or both are not coming.

  13. LUIS ALBERTO looks super talented but i've been wrong so many times from YOUTUBE clips so i'll reserve judgement. How do others view our new recruiting structure?
We heard briefly from IAN AYRE a few weeks back that there is major input from the scouts not the standard reccomendations that other clubs use scouts for. They chip in with IAN AYRE and BRENDAN RODGERS and come up with the name to go for.Signings by committee!
We've heard BR say he gets the final say.If this scouting team was adamant about us securing someone would that go over BRENDAN's head?

  14. Erm, can we not sign a centre back or two please? Papadopulos, Toby Alderweireld or Stefan De Vrijj. De Vrijj is only 21yrs old and is the Captain of his club!
Papadopulos or De Vrijj and I'll be well happy.
Failing one of those two, then Alderweireld.

Who do you guys think would be better for us out of these three...??
    (Papa', Alderweireld or De Vrijj..)

  15. I think the defensive signings will take a little longer because they are more important. We only need a couple of attacking players and we've already got one with a couple of good targets progressing for a new attacking midfielder. It seems like those targets have been easier to find but I suspect Rodgers wants the perfect centre back and hence it will be slower to get the right guy. We need a leader, someone who is composed and can rally a defence, someone who will throw themselves around like JC did with every ounce of effort they can manage. They have to be skilled on the ball, not just a big guy who can muscle his way to winning headers. We also want someone young with enough potential to play for us for a long time, and of course we want to not get ripped off. This guy has to have an immediate impact, essentially be our number one starting centre back to organise the defence from day one. It's a pretty long list of criteria and we can't afford mistakes, I think it will be a bit longer to find that perfect player.

  16. I think BR always has to have the final say. If he thinks a player isn't good enough then I don't think we'd sign him. I think if the rest of the scouting team was convinced and he wasn't then they'd just sit down and talk it out until they had consensus, until everyone agreed. It'd be like a jury: you keep talking until you can all agree with the decision being made, even if some people might have different views. But it has to be the head coach who is happy, even if he has to be convinced, after all it's his tactics and he's the guy ultimately responsible. If you just can't convince him that a player is right then I don't think we'd sign that player, but I think he will listen to his advisors and often accept their recommendations if he has no reasons to disagree. If the scouting team was really adamant about someone I don't think they'd have to go over his head, I think he'd ultimately defer to their judgement and accept whoever they recommend. He'd listen to their argument and, since he trusts them, he'd accept what they have to say and believe in it.

  17. Nice answer Adam. I certainly hope that's what Brendan is thinking.
How do you rate the Three I mentioned?
Papadop', Toby Alderweireld and De Vrijj?
One of those three fit the bill??

  18. Hard to say if any of those guys have the right mentality for what we need, would take some investigating to really find out. They seem to have the skill set and they've got established careers with their clubs but ... does their youth actually count against them? Could we rely on a 21 year old to come in and be vocal enough and not get overwhelmed in his first season in the league? I think perhaps that's why Ashley Williams gets talked about, even though he's not young and not really that fancied. His experience is a big deal and he's a proper grown up footballer, not a skillful young guy doing well in a respectable but still lower standard of league. Toby Alderweireld might be the best choice because he can also play right back, but I'd reckon we'd sign him AND another first choice centre back, possibly someone like Williams. Papadopoulos sounds like the most fancied option but that's only easy to say because he plays for a very good team and was courted by Milan. I don't always feel like the player with the highest potential fee is the best option, but if he's truly as good as people suggest then we should not be aiming lower. I think if we identify two quality CBs and the team would clearly benefit from having them then FSG will stump up the cash, but one of them has to be a proper leader.

  19. ADAM GRIFFIN, I agree the final say always has to be with BRENDAN but i like this committee we have in place.Giving managers total control of transfers has been a unwritten law in this country for so long and we're the first major club to adopt this fresh approach. If we have success I'm sure other clubs will follow suit.
There has been signings in the past at other clubs and even ours where players have been forced on a manager (ROBBIE KEANE) but that doesn't happen that often.
You can see the appeal this restriction free league has to top managers. They come from leagues where they mainly coach and have little input towards transfers.Into the EPL where they manage more aspects of a football club. The players on their wanted list get bought too.
Do you remember the RAFA BENITEZ quote when he talked about transfers at VALENCIA "I asked for a table and brought me a lamp"We've taken a bit of power away but it still comes down to what BRENDAN ROGERS wants.

  20. I personally think theres no Single defender that could come in our team, and guide the defence... That's why I think we should look at players that are here already for a long time. Of course we need new fresh legs at CB, but especially because were looking at young players, we should try to give agger the leadership role. He's long enough here at the club, comitted to lfc and happy here! People often say he's a world class defender, and he doesn't lack many attributes to be on that level. He's tall strong physically pretty good, has a lot of qualities on the ball and going forward. The only thing he lacks is that leadership we need in our team. And I personally think he should step up and command our defensive line, this would take the pressure away from new arrivals. Just my opinion :)

  25. I don't know why you are going for De Vrij because in the U-21 he and Indi his national U-21 and club CB partner were shite. They were being fooled way to easily and I don't think that is what we want, I thought De Vrij to be very good but he was pish poor that day when the Germans were attacking and they failed to stop them, even though Netherlands went on to win 3 - 2 but that was not because of their defense and only because of their attacking. I think we should go for Strootman if we want someone as a deep lying play-maker.

  26. Armenia defeated Denmark with a four goal margin and kept a clean sheet. i think we should really go for Mkhitaryan he is better than Ericksen IMO. This Alberto guy can be used as a cover and competition for AM position.

  31. If we do end up picking up yet another 'prospect' forward, I'd rather we go for somebody that may not be quite ready just now, but has a strong possibility of eventually becoming top class - like Muriel? - rather than just playing it safe with another middle of the road prospect who just looks like another Borini

Even that Belfodil kid from the other day looked better than Alberto to me :-/

  32. You may be right. With Jamie gone, hopefully he will (Agger) take that mantle of leadership on. He needs to be more vocal likeJamie was. I just don't know if he is that personality type or not. I hope he is!

  33. There you go. Thanks for that account of your first hand experience of De Vrijj. Maybe that's a part of the reason he hasn't been linked to us for a while.
