€12m star to LFC? - Reds 'approach' most expensive Hungarian player in history

In February, Hungarian midfielder Balázs Dzsudzsák claimed that Dynamo Moscow blocked a move to Anfield during the January transfer window. Liverpool snapped up Philippe Coutinho instead, but it looks like the Reds still want to sign the 26-year old winger.

Speaking to fcinter1908 last night Dzsudzsak's agent, Jozsef Vorosbaranyi, said:

"Numerous clubs have made an approach, including Internazionale and Liverpool.

"Balazs feels good at the team and has a good partnership with coach Dan Petrescu, but anything can happen".

In February, Dzsudzsák told Nemzeti Sport

"Dinamo didn't let me go, not even to Liverpool. I can't say any more because it is not my position to do so, but it seems that some respectable teams still believe in me. What I couldn't do during the winter transfer window can be done in the summer"

Then, in an interview with Nemzeti Sport soon afterwards, Dynamo Sporting Director Dmitry Galjamin explained why the Russian club blocked the deal:

"Liverpool put in an offer to take Dzsudzsák on loan, but didn't want to buy. Since a loan deal is not an option for us, we immediately closed negotiations"

If Liverpool had decided to buy Dzsudzsák outright then it looks a deal could've been concluded. However, given the fact he cost €19m only a year ago - a deal that made Dzsudzsák the most expensive Hungarian footballer in the history of the game - it's hardly surprising that Dynamo told the Reds to stuff it.

Based on all the comments, it seems clear that Dzsudzsák is open to a summer return to Europe. After spending three years at PSV Eindhoven, the winger has experience of European football, and at the age of 26, his best years should be still to come.

Having said that, after banging in 24 goals in 49 appearances in his last season for PSV, the goals have dried up for Dzsudzsák, and last season he managed only 5 in 32 appearances, which is not very impressive, and is certainly not (IMO) worth a €12m outlay.

I don't get the feeling that Dzsudzsák is a priority target for Liverpool. All clubs have first choice targets, and failsafe options, and to me, this (potential) deal feels like a back-up plan, which will only be called into play if Rodgers fails to sign one of his main targets.

Rodgers has good targets if I'm honest looking good.

  2. We always have links to good targets amongst the hundreds of players we are linked with every transfer window.
We just regularly fail to pick up the right ones...

  3. JK - agree with your assessment. Comments such as these are often, IMO, posted by agents hoping to promote their player. He says there have been numerous enquiries inc LFC and Inter but it just doesn't sound as if there's anything concrete.
At best it's possible he might be considered as an alternative No 5,6,7 target if we end up paying more for priority targets and budgets get squeezed.

  4. With Hendrik hopefully signing soon, I personally think our offensive department is sortet now. We have enough quality players on every or the 4 offensive positions.

Can't see shelvey staying, he didn't impress me in u21 and I peronally see his potential but maybe that lies at another club, either a loan or a permanent move would benefit us :) , lets just hope we will get a new CB and maybe a defensive mid, that is powerful and can bully others in middle of the pitch

  5. completely agree

  6. Judging by the number of midfielders you claim are targets, Rodgers is obviously planning to line them up in the seldom seen 0-10-0 formation

  7. i think i remember it be reported that we wanted 7m for him, if someone actually offers 7 for him i'd be happy with that sale :D

  8. Absolutely!!

  9. We will dominate in midfield no end.

  10. It's getting a bit ridiculous this transfer rumour stuff. We are allegedly close to signing Mkhitaryan, Atsu, Alberto and now him. Another difficult name to spell. Expect some shirts with typing errors on the back. Maybe we sign Tom Ince, too?

    ReplyDelete
  11. Whom should we have got instead of Coutinho and Sturridge in your opinion then?

    ReplyDelete
  12. I've no issue with either of those signings. I didn't say that we "always" sign the wrong players, just that we regularly do..

  13. We've wasted a lot of money on dross in the past, erm, 20 years or so, but our last two signings give me hope that there is change, for the better.

    ReplyDelete
  14. well fingers crossed eh - we can only hope!

  15. Yep, but any transfer is a risk.

  16. Tom Ince? I'm going to contradict myself here now but I think the England U-21's failure has shown that there is little point in spending big money on English talent. The contradiction lies therein that I do believe we need to give local players more chances in the first team. Take guys like Nicky Butt and Phil Neville. Obviously they also made a number of England squads but they only ever did well for Manyoo. I honestly believe we will get better performances from regularly playing kids like Flanagan, Coady and Sinclair (yes I am aware he's not scouse) than from paying too much money for players of arguably similar talent from smaller clubs.

  17. Makes perfect sense. If they can't get past our midfield, they can't score either. On top of that we can attack rugby style and barge our way through their defence. Without picking the ball up or tackling anyone of course. BR = GENIUS!

  18. Mkyhtarian is not a replacement for Suarez or addition to our forward line but to our midfield. If anything, he's a future replacement for Gerrard. I have high hopes for Shelvey and Suso but it's good that we get in more players like them. So if Suarez does leave we need to replace him too.

  19. Oh, I didn't mean that serious. Blackpool are reported to be asking for big money, for a player who has one year left on his contract. I'd put my money on them losing him for free next year. Great business, Blackpool.

I fully agree with you that we should try to develop as many players ourselves as possible. I don't think that Flanagan will make it, though. Both Kelly and Wisdom are ahead of him in the pecking order, and Johnson, of course, as well. Then we have McLaughlin coming through, too.
In the past there has been a lot of talk about Coady. Now is the time to step up and bring himself into regular contention for the first team squad.

Ibe looked good in his cameo appearance, too.

  20. Off topic, but Stoke at home is first game of the season. Lets start well with 3 points!

  21. if we are not in the top four minimum after the 1st ten games rodgers as got to go no if no butts all winnable ,only one dodgey fixture no excuses

    ReplyDelete
  22. Ok, waaaaaaaaay off topic here, but are the end of season awards ever going to be announced?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Blimey you're a task master. No pressure then

    ReplyDelete
  24. have you seen the fixtures if we are not in the top four then we never will be

    ReplyDelete
  25. I have seen it but we both know football doesn't work like that. Man City & Chelsea have arguably the best squads in the league, yet none won the league last season and Chelsea haven't come close for a few years.

  26. Id rather Atsu if we can steal him from Porto under 5 million.

It looks very likely atm that we sign Aspas, Mkhitaryan, Mignolet and Alberto... maybe Atsu. and im very very psyched about the deals.

    -----------------------Mignolet--------------------------
    Johnson----Toure-------------Agger------Enrique
    ------------------Lucas-----------------------------------
    ------------------------------Gerrard---------------------
    Aspas/Mkhitryan----------------------Coutinho-----
    ----------(LS)Aspas/Mkhitryan-----------------------
    ---------------------------Sturridge----------------------

    bench:

    Skrtel (hopefully someone else)
    Allen
    Alberto
    Wisdom
    Hendo
    Borini
    Atsu/Sterling

IMO that looks awesome, and has room for suarez if he decides to stay or we decide that we still want him. the pace / talent / hardwork all three attacking mids can offer, Sturridge will run riot being supplied by those guys.

i hope these signings go trough.

if we get rid of Luis, Pepe, Downing, Skrtel, and Coates. we will be able to spend even more.

im thinking this will be our best transfer window in ages.

  27. Nonsense. The season isn't decided after 10 games. Even last season, top four was still a possibility in Feb/March, despite the crap start.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I think your bang on about Ince, My prediction is that next seaon Paul Ince will be out of a job watching his son play for someone else after a free transfer

    ReplyDelete
  29. lol your joking right ,have you seen our 1st ten fixtures (top four i was being kind we should be top)man ure at home and apart from that if we have any hope of getting top four the rest should be gimmies ,and if we are not in the top four then i can garuntee the bookies will certainly be lengthening our odds against a top four finish,we are currently 13/8

PL is like a marathon not a sprint. Also even IF we don't get top 4 Rodgers won't be sacked :-)

    ReplyDelete
  31. why do you smile after saying he still will not get sacked is it because you do not care about the club just rodgers and fsg

    ReplyDelete
  32. liverpool4life5654:03 pm, June 19, 2013

Because I want to. Also FSG and Rodgers are looking after the club :) Rodgers by bringing in good players, and FSG for giving the funds :-)

  33. Blackpool probably still have to learn the lesson that McManaman's free transfer to Madrid has taught us.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Erm, what does that mean? Any of these explanations? http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=hodor

    ReplyDelete
  35. I agree with you on Flanagan but I meant it as an example. I believe we'd get a lot more out of him than we would out of Adam Smith if we paid a bundle for him.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Don't get too excited Tuomas. Better believe that a deal happens as soon as it is reported on the official site.

    ReplyDelete
  37. sorry m8 ten games

    ReplyDelete
  38. Why not? If you give him 10 games, fire him. Get a new manager, the new manager likes 4-4-2. What then? Re sign Carroll? Stability is needed. You have to get real. He has to be given, time. Because he has the club playing good football and he will get it right, in my opinion.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Lets do it your way. Give each manager 10 games. If we haven't won all the games sack him, move on to the next manager. Lol.

    ReplyDelete
  40. he his not getting ten games he has had a full season if the ressults are as bad after ten games this season hes got to go we should be top of the league after nine games ,looking at the fixtures ,and if we are langushing in tenth hes got to go
