Anfield-Bound? - 'Gifted' €27m star due in UK tomorrow to sign LFC contract

Armenian attacker Henrikh Mkhitaryan is reportedly due to fly into the UK tomorrow to seal his £23m (€27m) transfer to Liverpool FC.

According to the Armenian news agency, Panarmenian.Net:

"Henrikh Mkhitaryan is due to sign a transfer contract with Liverpool FC this week.

"A PanARMENIAN.Net correspondent was told at Zvartnots airport that the player will be taking a Yerevan-Moscow-London flight to the British capital on Thursday, June 20 at 6.10 pm local time.

Multiple sources are reporting that Mkhitaryan is scheduled for a medical at some point this week, so it seems likely that - barring any last-minute mishaps - he could be a Liverpool player by the weekend.

Shakhtar Donetsk boss Mircea Lucescu will be sorry to see Mkhitaryan leave, and in an interview last night, he hailed the 24-year old's 'high level of football intelligence', and further outlined what makes him such a special player. He told The Guardian:

"His [Mkhitaryan's] game awareness is perhaps his most valuable quality – that and the speed and power and technique Henrikh was gifted by nature and that he's developed. Because of those virtues, he's one of the players who most consistently fulfils the tasks set by the coaching staff. Working with him is fun."

For me, this is undoubtedly one of the most exciting Liverpool signings for years, but if Mkhitaryan signs, then the Reds' interest in Ajax midfielder Christian Eriksen will probably come to an end. Of course, there's always the delicious possibility of signing both players, but I can't see that happening (!)

Let's not count our chickens yet, though. Mkhitaryan has a burning desire to play in the Champions League, as he reiterated in a recent interview:

"Not so many Armenian players are given the chance to play in the Champions League, and this is really important for me, because I want to do everything to impress the children who are watching me playing. For those children, I want their goal to be to play in the Champions League, and for the most important European teams".

There's still a possibility that a top Champions League team might come in for Mkhitaryan at the eleventh hour, and given his views on the issue, he might find it hard to say no.

The ghost of the failed Dempsey/Sigurdsson deals may yet return to haunt Liverpool...but let's hope not!

It's also massively refreshing to see a high-profile footballer who embraces his status as a role-model for impressionable kids. Whether they like it or not, Luis Suarez et al ARE role-models for children, yet he and so many others seem to reject the responsibility that entails.

  1. Let's hope.
There's a slight contradiction with a report which says the Shaktar Club Manager who says Liverpool activated his release clause but it was turned down. Any chance of making that issue clearer?

Hopefully it goes to plan :-) if this comes off there will be alot of happy liverpool fans, accept 1 haha ;), BR is getting his work done quickly, looks like we will have depth to our squad.

  3. I'll be one of them. Two footed. quick, knows how to time runs into the box, accurate shooter, can beat a man.
    What's not to like?

  4. Chill. Think positively. I know that's a bit of a stretch for you, but anything's possible.

    ReplyDelete
  5. when he signs on the dotted line i will believe it and be relieved ,and i have read the report it went as far as to say what time is plane was leaving lol so do i believe it completely, not on your nelly

    ReplyDelete
  6. I'm not actually that haunted by the failed Dempsey deal, to be fair... :)

  7. He is an amazing player and easily one of the most important signing we could make if all goes to plan I'll be over the moon. Brendan is looking at some very smart signings in my opinion and if we capture them things are looking up. Add Alberto, Aspas, Toure, Mignolet, Atsu, Mkhitaryan and Papadopoulos to the mix and things start looking rosey. I'll hold my breath and keep my fingers crossed until all is done and dusted.

  8. Nah, he believes it's better to fear the worst every time, and be pleasantly surprised if the predicted doom does not materialise.
    It's his way.

  9. Dodged a bullet ,if you ask me.

  10. Things are looking rather good for LFC!!!!.

  11. BREAKING: Andy Carroll is now a West Ham United player after completing a £15m move from Liverpool - story to follow.... LFCecho

    ReplyDelete
  12. and why would that be you ,absolute clown ,i never said i did not want him to sign ,i just said he had not and it was dependent on the suarez sale .according to the echo,

  13. Come on Jaimie, please positive for us. We all crave this type of signing as it will show intent on Rodgers' part. Whichever way it goes, I have seen within a short possible time that the Fenway group means business when they said they would support the coach.

Fantastic actions so far with efforts made towards closure. I am indeed please that the club seems to be heading in the right direction. Also with the new financial director we can also focus on bring total head cost within control.

  14. You do realise, he never said who?
    You're incriminating yourself....

  15. I don't what everyone is going on about re me not being positive. In the article, I am positive about the signing, but I've also looked at the other possible eventuality. That's just being realistic.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Please let this happened.

  17. I agree especially as they are flying him to London when he can hop on easyjet to Manchester unless he is signing for Arsenal !!

    ReplyDelete
  18. My colleague at the media holding company I work at told me he knows Mkhitaryan personally, but that the player has not been in frequent contact lately. For me that is a sign that it is going to happen in the nearest days.

  19. i know who he was accusing m8 lol i get 20 posts a day off him;-) and like i stated above why would i not be happy find one post when i have ever said anything other than good things about henrikh

Good on BR selling Carroll for 15.5 million, plus 2 million in bonuses, plus 2 million loan fee, 19.5 million is a good deal, plus the wages we saved last season, thanks west ham! And the fans slamming BR for loaning him out, he was right to do it!:-)

    ReplyDelete
  22. I know that, but you do like to put a dampener on any good news. You may just be one of those overly cautious types, but quite a few of your negative predictions have not come to pass..

    ReplyDelete
  23. agree it had to much information ,iam surprised they did not say what time is train arrived at lime street ,and which hotel he was staying in

    ReplyDelete
  24. Put a 'dampener on good news'? Nonsense. Please outline which of my alleged 'negative predictions' have not come to pass.

    ReplyDelete
  25. totally agree it could be a right crock of sh1te

    ReplyDelete
  26. £4m a year wages too. And he was injured most of last season anyway

    ReplyDelete
  27. Really excited about this lad,I am disappointed about Eriksen, its still possible but in reality we're not going to buy the two,I hope Im wrong :)

  30. Ha ha try to control those feelings of persecution Jamie lol. I was replying to, and talking about, Jason...

    ReplyDelete
  31. I'm really excited about this signing! He looks like a great footballer. I remember him scoring a good goal against Ireland when they were 1 man down and losing 2-0

    ReplyDelete
  32. Looking for that post would be like finding a needle in a haystack. It would be a whole lot easier to find hundreds of your posts where you criminally murdered English words with your atrocious spelling... lol

Great deal for us then haha :-)

  34. One of the few times where I am glad that there is a premium price for buying British players

    ReplyDelete
  35. Good riddance, the donkey is now someone else's problem.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Extremely excited, i just can't wait for him to sign for lfc!!
Great player that is fast, can score, play on different positions, much flexibility and much much more.
Brendan Rodgers said last year he wants all his players to score, the whole team should be able to score. Well we lacked scoring from the midfield payers, with a player that had 29 goals last season this should be solved now I think :)
his trickery and scoring ability is known, and it will also open up space for our strikers wingers to score !

    ReplyDelete
  37. Good luck Big Andy!!
You're at a team now, that suits you much better.

i can see a totally different liverpool coming soon...All those BR signing can bring something unpredictable..Cant tell is good or bad ahead of us but least we are start doing thing out of box (something different from traditional)

    ReplyDelete
  41. I don't know much about him, so can't say I'm as excited as you but a few on here have been pushing for him in the last couple of months, so hope he is as good they think he is and if he is, we'll be getting a very good player. Nice to see the club getting transfer-related stuff done early, hope they do the same with Suarez one way or the other.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Don`t forget Allen for 15 mil and Borini for 10 mil

    ReplyDelete
  43. hes probably been searching the web for train times and decent hotels lol

    ReplyDelete
  44. Well I said before Jamie Suarez would go. I also say Liverpool only spend 25 mil net a season under Rogers. Borini and Allen have been a waste of 25 mil. But must admit Sturridge and coultino have been a revelation. Really disappointed Coates has not been given a real chance and I predict we will finish 5 or 6th still next season in the uefa cup and everyone will call it bloody progress. Fact is we should be doing better.

    ReplyDelete
  45. on another subject a posted on another thread that if we are not in the top four after ten games this season we will not be (after seeing fixtures )as good as an opening ten games as we could wish for ,and imo if we are not top for rodgers revolution will after end good luck brendon not that you should need it ,god we should be at the top considering the other top teams play each other ,and if we are top who,s to say we cannot stay there with this kind of signing and a few others like it especially if we can keep suarez

    ReplyDelete
  46. the fixtures seem to be pretty good for us this year. at least better than last season...

    ReplyDelete
  47. Whats this? Is this a shred of positivity I see?

    ReplyDelete
  48. Also said there was no logical reason for rogers to waste 2.5 mil for 6 months on Sahin. All together 27 mil wate excluding wages (allen and borini)

As for Suarez, He must give in a written tranfer request and liverpool should not take a penny less then 50 mil. Personaly I would put an 80 mil price tag on his head for starters then see how things develope. I cried over Torress....no more tears for me.!!

So shall it be written and so shall it be done

Now im going to hibernate again lol

    ReplyDelete
  49. I think that's pretty short-sighted. Liverpool always gathers more points after January. Not being in the top 4 after games is not an indication that we are not progressing.

    ReplyDelete
  50. like i say if we are not in the mix after ten games we can write the season off

    ReplyDelete
  51. Lads let's keep our cool. Positivity is excellent but we have to be cautios and take one game at a time.

    ReplyDelete
  52. we surely have to be somewhere at the top after the next ten games. i Have the feeling - and dont ask me why- we will finish 5th next season

    ReplyDelete
  53. liverpool4life5653:15 pm, June 19, 2013

Point? Two young players with two good futures :-)

    ReplyDelete
  54. liverpool4life5653:17 pm, June 19, 2013

In the PL, anything can happen, there no easy game in the PL, because a bottom team can beat a top team, no one knows :-) and we all know BR won't get sacked, it's a long term project not a short term :-)

    ReplyDelete
  55. Top young players like Mkhitaryan and Eriksen etc would have seen Suarez come to Liverpool and become world class so it's no surprise Liverpool can still attract them. If Suarez leaves hopefully we'll get Eriksen too.

Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc's concession that no deal has been agreed for Eriksen.

"I have read [the Eriksen rumours] with amazement.

    ReplyDelete
  56. liverpool4life5653:18 pm, June 19, 2013

Same just happy he gone and we got decent money for him :)

    ReplyDelete
  57. They've not failed yet and both looked good players at Swansea and Roma before they moved to liverpool. I still think they'll both come good I can't argue we overpaid for them because we did no two ways about it. But every manager does and has signed flops but it's still early days yet regarding Allen and Borini! King Kenny did more than his fare share of wasting money Carroll being a prime example as did Hodgson and Benitez, Houllier wasted rucks on some crap, Evans did and Souness did huge damage. Time will tell if Allen and Borini are wasted money but Coutinho and Sturridge have been a master stroke and if we get Aspas, Alberto, Mignolet, Atsu. Mkhitaryan and Papadopoulos these will be the type of players who are only going to improve our chances of success next season

    ReplyDelete
  58. posted about a month ago that reina and suarez had cancelled the nursery places for the kids that the players use also coates has given notice on his stable!!!

    ReplyDelete
  59. I hope this is true. People were saying it depends on the Carroll deal, so now that's gone through, maybe this will?
I hope he turns out to be another Coutinho.
I also think its really positive that FSG seem to still be backing 'big money moves'

    ReplyDelete
  60. In truth they both need to go for the good of the club as they both have eyes elsewhere and I only want players who want to be at LFC regardless of how good they may be. I see it more of an inevitabiilty Suarez and Reina leaving players come and go it a harsh fact of football but no one is bigger than the club

    ReplyDelete
  61. That might not always be true. In 2011-12. We were poor after the new year, part of the reason why King Kenny got the sack. 18 points from last 19 games (That statistic is appalling when compared to wigan who got 21 in 2012-13 during same period)

    ReplyDelete
  62. It's really exciting to see that we are getting all our deals done early so everyone can get a full preseason under their belt. I've never felt that Eriksen would come cos he wants CL football. Now that Carroll has moved on Rodgers will need to loan out all the players he thinks would need developing and move out the dead weights. The fixture list for us looks good apart from the 3rd game against manure although moyes is also trying to get his system working, so I guess it's a good time for us to play them. Lets hope we can get off to a flying start man!

    ReplyDelete
  63. Until the official LFC site confirms the signing of the player, anything before that is speculation.

    ReplyDelete
  64. if the cap fit he should wear it

    ReplyDelete
  65. Hmmm interesting!! So JC and JK are the same people....???

    ReplyDelete
  66. Fact Allen is a midfield player. stats never lie. No one will call him a defensive midfielder because even Lucas with his loss of form is light years ahead of him in that position. Attacking midfielder? Well he scores on average 4 or less goals a season so even gerrard at his old age will do more than that. On par with downing and below par with henderson who is a better all round player. Assists? well his assist is well below par for an attacking midfielder or even a central midfielder. Limited killer balls and plays most of his football in his own half. Age 24 going to 25 if I am not mistaken. Now if he was 18 i`d agree with a bright future at 24 yrs old he`s learn`t most of what he has had to and i`m afraid that is all your getting.
The question is if liverpool were to sell him this summer they would get 6-7 mil tops and only a fool would pay even that. Realistically without being personal he is a flop. Henderson is an all round better player and still has more years on his side to develop.
Borini just not clinical enough in front of goal. Makes the right runs and works for the team but I would rather dream of the 25 mil we would of had instead.

    ReplyDelete
  67. thats the problem m8 we were so unpredictable last season one week we were good ,one week we were poor and one week we were dogsh1te

    ReplyDelete
  68. What a travesty, you being English.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Plus , go to the likes of Chelsea or Man City and see how much game time you will get.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Jason mate, are you trying to say that just because you are English, you can incorrectly use your own language just because, it is your own, and it be ok? Get a grip mate, just because your English doesnt mean that you can majestically morph words into your own little language.

    ReplyDelete
  71. i can do what i like m8 and no upstart will tell me different

    ReplyDelete
  72. i know m8 i feel the same when you look around the scum on the streets

    ReplyDelete
  73. The figure is historically £30m actually, and will be way higher if Suarez goes. Problem with your comment is that we are 3rd behind Chelsea and Man City in net spend since FSG took over, they are far from perfect, but they ARE backing us financially.

    ReplyDelete
  74. You're more than welcome to do what you like Jason, but it doens't mean that it is correct you doing it, does it?

    ReplyDelete
  75. ??? What does that mean?

    ReplyDelete
  76. Hmmmm indeed.....

    ReplyDelete
  77. look m8 i do not want to discuss grammar i do not give a f"ck ,the only time a mention it is ,when somebody brings it up,and normally its there one comment on the thread

    ReplyDelete
  78. Im only discussing it with you mate because you gave a ridiculous defence of your poor grammar to someone who pointed out your lack of it.

    ReplyDelete
  79. liverpool4life5654:33 pm, June 19, 2013

Lol this doesn't even make sense

    ReplyDelete
  80. bad grammar or not, i think its unfair to snipe at others just because they aren´t writing correctly all the time.

I´m personally not from any english speeking country and im absolutely sure i´m making many gramar and spelling mistakes, but i´m glad no one here ever blamed me for that...

    ReplyDelete
  81. I'm not being critical of his grammar, i am simply being critical over his terrible excuse

    ReplyDelete
  82. I know he has a good goal scoring record. But that doesn't really mean anything when you play in Ukraine. From the few games I have seen him in (Dortmund and other Champions League ones) he's just an offball attacking mid

    ReplyDelete
  83. just wanted to point that out...
    Urnar did so

    ReplyDelete
  84. Fair enough if it wasnt directed at me

    ReplyDelete
  85. Even with a £4m loyalty payment for not asking for a transfer, we will lose just £6-7m compared to keeping him.
The press will still say £20m though, sounds better!

    ReplyDelete
  86. I think he meant unpredictable style of play, not unpredictable form

    ReplyDelete
  87. Elsewhere their general manager is quoted saying that they have had not contact with Liverpool. I honestly don't know what's true and what isn't.

    ReplyDelete

  90. Still not interested joining me in my time travel?

    ReplyDelete
  91. I think we should better wait and see. You could well be wrong with both.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Was he at the same stable as Carroll?

    ReplyDelete
  93. And what they served him to eat on the plane.

    ReplyDelete
  94. That actually wouldn't surprise me at all.

    ReplyDelete
  95. if anyone hijacks our bid for him i will go their training ground and smear my cats poop on their face ! totenham beware !!!!

    ReplyDelete
  96. we all have so much to look forward to if all these deals happen :D

    ReplyDelete
  97. you should really get that on camera!!

    ReplyDelete
  98. the truths out thats why i keep threatening to ban myself i will have to create a new darker side lol;-)

    ReplyDelete
  99. i mean the country gone to the dogs

    ReplyDelete
  100. and how many posts as he made m8 its the same prat changing is name

    ReplyDelete
  101. i agree m8 i find many posts i get difficult to read but i try my best to understand them ,and never pull them about the grammer,i may well pull them about something else but never there grammer;-)

    ReplyDelete
  102. buck me a place lol;-)

    ReplyDelete
  103. well why read it ,is someone holding a gun to your head ,i certainly am not bothered if you read it or not ,

    ReplyDelete
  104. Another very stupid point regarding Eriksen. He was literally begging Liverpool for transfer. Fed up of this ECL excuse.

    ReplyDelete
  105. my sarcasm is lost;-)

    ReplyDelete
  106. if we are say 6th after ten games i cannot see us finishing any higher than last season

    ReplyDelete
  107. not positive m8 if we are not top four after ten games rodgers as to go the fixtures are all win able even manure at home we could either put a marker down of our intentions or have another season over by january

    ReplyDelete
  108. look m8 we play one side who finished above us they are no excuses ,and in kennys final season we did not get more points

    ReplyDelete
  109. Your reservation has been received, Sir. Please keep this receipt until further notice. You will also be provided with a cane for the visit of a young Jaimie Kanwar: That'll teach him.

    ReplyDelete
  110. if we are not top four he can take his project and stuff it and they will be plenty more think the same ,because we would have to have some real poor results

    ReplyDelete
  111. he was two big a name for rodgers imo

    ReplyDelete
  112. agree m8 but he can only play with whats with him and against what is put before him

    ReplyDelete
  113. i can believe that lol

    ReplyDelete
  114. liverpool4life5656:54 pm, June 19, 2013

Yeah because the PL is so easy right? Don't be so ridiculous. PL is the strongest out of all the leagues, top 3 will be out of Chelsea, city, united, and for fourth it be us,spurs, arsenal.and you can say that, that's your opinion, but our owners will stick with him, he a manager who we can progress with.

    ReplyDelete
  115. maybe we can teach him to lighten up ,and have a bit of fun sometimes instead of taking it all to seriously i agree comments should be moderated ,and about the insults but they are insults and they are insults lol

    ReplyDelete
  116. why is it the strongest you talk tripe how did our clubs do in europe again opps poorly ,and like i said ten games and he could be out ,do you think we are going to put up with the same sh1te results as last year ,i am not infact if stoke tank us on the opening day say 3/0 he will be lucky to be here for the tenth game

    ReplyDelete
  117. liverpool4life5657:05 pm, June 19, 2013

Because top 3 off PL can win the league, stronger than, Spanish,German,Italy. Even Jose has said. So I'm not talking "tripe" and did I say anything about Europe? I said PL. READ! And your so negative it's funny :-), we will see what happens. Like I said Pl is open. Anything can happen. I'm realistic.

    ReplyDelete
  118. I hope you don't mean not Anglo Saxon enough

    ReplyDelete
  119. liverpool4life5657:23 pm, June 19, 2013

I thought it usual 1 million loyalty bonus?lol

    ReplyDelete
  120. This was my point to Jamie re the press. We now have the Manager saying LFC have offered the Get out clause and the General Manager saying there's not approach. Can't both be right.

    ReplyDelete
  121. steady m8 you will get a longer ban than luis if JK has his way haha

    ReplyDelete
  122. JK, cutting in off topic, but when are you gonna post the End of Season Awards results?

    ReplyDelete
  123. i will appeal to the fa on the account that john terry got less for a bigger insult;-)

    ReplyDelete
  124. will do them next season ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  125. i have no problem with what colour any body is ,it has nothing to do with there family values ,i blame the parents ,

    ReplyDelete
  126. jeeez I hope we not payed u front hes flyin with AEROFLOT !!!

    ReplyDelete
  127. Just read his club have reported Liverpool haven't even contacted them, never mind put a bid in had it accepted and have him on a plane for medical... My money is still on Erikson and will now go through due to Carroll going, has to be, it went from loads of talk to zip, that's usually Liverpools way, if they involved lips are shut until deal done

    ReplyDelete
  128. and now they is nothing no contact, no bid,and all the talk was worthless ,no doubt he will be signing again tomorrow and we can repeat the chit chat lol;-)

    ReplyDelete
  129. Will see what happens with this one. Until the deal is actually signed, I wont believe anything. To much can happen between a rumour and a deal for it not to happen. Problem with the internet is one paper reports something and within minutes the story has been copied to dozens of sites making it look like it holds a lot more weight, as lots of people saying it is on etc. I hope we get him for a decent price, but until he has passed his medical I`m not counting on anything.

    ReplyDelete
  130. I hope not, Eriksen is so over hyped its crazy. A player most fans have never watched yet seem to think is the next Messi., he ain`t.

    ReplyDelete
  131. BUT WHAT ABOUT ALL THE PUBS IN FORMBY JEEZ THE TAKING HAVE TAKEN A BIG HIT

    ReplyDelete
  132. Well it always generalize it, as it will depend on the situation, whatever we should really have a good start of the season :)

    ReplyDelete
  133. Liverpool need to get their business done early. Then deal with Suarez and get his replacement. Hopefully they won't spend big and gamble, like they did with Carroll. They should stick to the bargains like coutinho. Fingers crossed, they make the right choices.

    ReplyDelete
  134. liverpool4life5658:57 pm, June 19, 2013

I'm confused about this transfer, everyone saying different things. Time will tell as they say :-)

    ReplyDelete
  135. Maybe Everton could sign Heskey.

    ReplyDelete
  136. No, they can't. People seem to take things that papers report way, way too serious these days. Everybody should know by now that they try to make a story out of everything.

    ReplyDelete

  140. I think maybe because it was looking so certain, that may be some mind games are going on now.
If he still appears to be available, maybe certain clubs that believed a done deal was more or less sealed, might be enticed to make an offer? Even if the player himself prefers us, it could force the price up a couple more mil....
Just a thought..... After all, this is the world of elite football where at this time of year, Youtube videos can double a player's value.......

  142. I wouldn't be too sure about the "will come true soon" part. One can never really know. Doesn't seem as if Real are in any hurry to put in an offer for Suaréz, and Reina has allegedly TODAY reiterated his desire to stay at Liverpool.

  151. Not happening as quickly as we thought, there is a few other clubs in for him as well, but more worryingly expect a late bid from Spurs they are likely to be sneaking around and will try their gazumping tactic against us again, looks like we will have these parasites clinging to us for the foreseeable future. Letting us do all the tough negotiations working out what the player and his club want. As soon as the transfer fee, contractual stipulations, and players terms look like they have been established, they will simply offer a slightly better deal than us and have it sewn up in no time, they really are a sneaky bunch with no shame.

  157. What do people make about the Astu link? I don`t really get the hype about him. Granted I haven`t seen him play that much, but when I have he just looks ok, and if you look at his stats he never scores or creates many assists. Surely on the left wing Sterling is just as good? I am missing something here?

  161. Was thinking exactly the same thing. +We've got more than enough in that department especially youngsters with more Spanish players on the way and the likes of Sterling and Ibe at home.
We need defenders. LB 2 x CB, and Wanyama or Diame. Not more wingers

  162. From what I have heard we put in a bid only last night so any talk of flying in to Liverpool is premature, Furthermore while no one is doubting his ability as a player he has shown somewhat of a mercenary attitude, in an interview earlier in the year that he wanted to move to preferable Barcelona or London for the high wages he is due.

But he is the type of player that we need, and I wouldn't let that attitude stop us from trying to get him. His agent has been offering out to anyone who will listen.

Also for anyone who will listen, there is some confusion in spain/portugal of our interest in Alberto and Atsu by some Journalists and ex players in the respective countries that while being good players they are most suited to higher/mid table teams not those trying to crack the top 4. Let's hope Rodgers is right and they turn out to be real quality.

  163. That's the trouble, we don't know when the quote was made. Could have been days ago. Typical media artistic license.

Let's see how it pans out, this means nothing.

    carra gave Sky an interview.

Independent headline: Jamie Carragher can see why Luis Suarez wants to Leave

Telegraph headline: Carragher: Liverpool should keep Luis Suarez
    Same interview.

  164. something seems off about this. maybe a smoke screen for another deal. hopefulky Eriksson or Thaigo(I know we haven't been linked with him forever but I think he is worth more than Eriksson, plus get tello with him instead of atsu would be phenomenal)

  165. This is what I don't really understand about a lot of LFC fans: we "should" be doing better. It's not really based in reality, is it? What is this "should"? What rule book is it written in? What divine right do we have as a football to be in the top 4 or top 2? Why "should" we be doing better?

This is a tough league, the toughest in the world, and the amount of money that gets floated around the big teams is massive. That doesn't mean we can't compete but you have to have a sense of realism in all of this. There is no magic solution. There is no super manager who will turn it all around. There is no sugar daddy owner who is going to splash 100s of millions, and woud you really want that anyway?

By all means, let's be ambitious and always aim for the top, but there has to be a point at which it's not the end of the world if we're not quite good enough. Otherwise are you happy to be a miserable LFC supporter for all of your life? Does that really make sense? Aren't you just making yourself miserable with unrealistic expectations? What good does it do to insist that we "should" do better?

We have improved from last season, 9 clear points better. That's an improvement, I don't quite understand how it could be any other way. You can't just magically take a team that finished 8th and have them challenge for the title. That's nonsense. You have to improve season by season and we've already done that once. Add another 9-12 points to our total next season and we'll challenge for that top 4 spot. Do it again the season after that and we're in the frame to push for the title. How is that not good enough? How can you not have enough patience and common sense to see that this is the only way a team can get better i.e. one season at a time?

    ReplyDelete
  166. Are you implying that the media twists stories to create headlines?

    Say it ain't so!

  168. Thiago has a release clause valued at around £17 million it was much higher but has dropped since he didn't make enough appearances in the Liga.

I can say though with almost certainty that he won't be moving to Liverpool, likeliest destination is Man Utd unfortunately, though I still think Barcalona will try very hard keep him and give him a better contract since Xavi is approaching 34. Other squad and utility players (perhaps Tello) are available as I understand since they splashed the majority of their budget on Neymar and to make any further big signings they will need to sell.

  172. ManU would be a poor choice for him. he plays in a team with 4-3-3 setup, quite frankly Moyes has weird targets considering his system in the past, he is trying not only to calm a storm with a marquee signing but trying to change his style to accommodate his new found wealth and talent pool. ManU looks shaky in my opinion. moyes should stick to his guns. same as thaigo, who should stick in a familiar system. it did wonders for cesc. I'm not saying he can't change nor moyes but that it's lot of change all at once.

  174. Mkhitaryan is partly owned by Shakhtar and partly by some businessmen in Armenia. According to what I've read on Twitter, LFC have agreed a deal with the non Shaktar part and now Shakhtar will have to start negotiations with Liverpool. Hence Shakhtar saying that they haven't got any bid yet.
Ps: It's just a conjecture, don't shoot the messenger! ;)

  179. Thiago will be fine wherever he goes, as he is that good and adaptable, especially considering his age and his ability to play in various types of central midfield roles (deep orchestrator or as attacking midfielder, for example). One of the biggest clubs with a hole in central midfield that needs filling, quite a good choice for Thiago. Not much point in putting considerable emphasis on Moyes system in the past, as the circumstances are very different. Less need to rely on aerial/physical prowess like Moyes needed to at a much smaller club in Everton, for example. Stereotypically, it makes sense to look at the past but when circumstances are so different, it isn't that straightforward. Hope they flop and flop hard but Thiago will be a great signing in the long run. The lad is class and he'll do the business in the long term, wherever he goes.

    ReplyDelete
  180. The player doesn't need to create interest from spurs.....Spurs create their own interest as soon as they know of ours!
They then bide their time, come in with a higher offer and the promise of a lucrative contract.... That's as sneaky as a certain little Smeagol...... :-)

    ReplyDelete
  181. I agree with you to a small degree on that. Thiago defiantly has the potential to be a world beater no matter where he goes. however implying that Moyes was forced to aerial/ physical prowess because his lack of funds at Everton is complete shit. you can still buy payers to fit into a passing style system, for example swansea. Just as Chelsea used to spend their money on the aerial/ physical type players, same as Everton but obviously they could get world-class names vs Everton who had to find no names. That was Moyes CHOICE to p lay that style, it is his style, no matter your budget style is your choice no ifs ands or buts about it. he is trying to change HIS style that is harder for a coach than a player but both at the same time can spell disaster

    ReplyDelete
  182. You are amusingly making a mountain out of a molehill, as I did not imply blatantly or obviously solely what you said. It could have been interpreted in a different way and I would have been happy to clarify for you if you had the decency and temperament to ask old chap, instead of you jumping the gun foolishly. Anyhoo, I'll clarify for you now and leave it at that. Some managers do not have a stubborn playing philosophy, believe it or not. Some managers are flexible, believe it or not. Some managers take into account heavily who they are playing, believe it or not. It wasn't about necessarily financial reasons as to why I said Moyes needed to use physical and aerial prowess, but down to him to try and get Everton winning points at almost whatever cost is necessary and tailoring his style quite heavily in relation to what opposition, rather than him being a stubborn manager that wants to impose his style on whatever team he comes up against a la Roberto Martinez. In other words, playing style wasn't the be all and end all for him at Everton, whether it be sticking to a physical style through Fellaini, Cahill or Anichebe or passive flair style through the likes of Arteta, Pienaar, McFadden or Russian Billy. It was a matter of just getting the job done in terms of results, whether it be bullying Arsenal or turning on the style against a lesser side. Everton have more and less been a mixed bag under Moyes, in terms of style. When they had Arteta for example, they were a different kettle of fish, when he was the key man, compared to the season just gone. So for you to pigeon hole Moyes' so-called style is rather naive, considering he has somewhat fluctuated between styles over the years. Anyhoo, now he finds himself in much different circumstances, so to rely on his situation at Everton, especially in the manner you have done is questionable to say the least, regardless of you putting 'no ifs ands or buts about it'. Your argument is not as infallible as you think, nowhere near. My argument is to be not so quick to judge or jump to conclusions, whether it be about what I initially meant or about what will happen with Moyes over there, as Moyes is no stubborn one-way philosopher like Martinez or Rodgers. Simple as that. So on that note, as I've said my piece and I won't laughably put at the end of it 'fact', 'no ifs ands or buts about it', 'your talking complete sh1t'. etc, as its subjective and an opinion, just like yours. Adios.
