Transfer Fail: 'Exceptional' LFC target rejects Anfield swap-deal. Loss or relief...?

Reports in Spain and England this week claim that Liverpool want Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata as part of the deal to take Luis Suarez to the Bernebeau, but according to the player himself, a move to Anfield - or indeed anywhere else - is no-go.

According to The Mirror:

"Luis Suarez will join Real Madrid, but only if the Spanish giants sweeten the deal with one of their most promising youngsters.

"Liverpool will not budge a penny below £40m, and they [LFC] have identified Alvaro Morata as a makeweight to ensure they get the full value".

When asked last night about the possibility of leaving, Morata - the top scorer (4 goals/2 assists) at this summer’s European Under-21 Championship - told Cadena Ser:

"I called the president and he told me that I will stay at Real Madrid next season. He is very happy with me."

Is this good or bad news? I get the feeling that Reds fans are distinctly underwhelmed at the prospect of Morata being included in the Suarez deal. It's certainly a big turnaround from a few days ago, when the young striker threatened to leave Madrid. He warned:

“If another striker is brought in, I will have to think about what’s best for me and consider leaving. If I go, I would prefer a move abroad.”

Morata's U21 team-mate, Thiago Alcantara, seems to think that Morata is heading for greatness. He told reporters this week:

“Morata is an exceptional player and he’s really given us a lot in this tournament. He helped us win the games that won us our group and get to the final too – he’s a great No9"

If Morata is staying, are there any other Madrid players who could be viable 'makeweights' in the inevitable Luis Suarez deal...?
