Disregard: LFC star brazenly ignores BR's 'very simple rule'. Total lack of respect...?

Speculation about Luis Suarez's future has intensified this week, and - once again - it is the Uruguayan himself who is fanning the flames with his ill-advised comments about Real Madrid. Clearly, Suarez has no respect for his manager, Brendan Rodgers, who recently warned him in March that he must not discuss LFC matters whilst on international duty.

Whilst away with Uruguay national team in March, Suarez told reporters:

"If another team comes around with more prospects, which is willing to have me, they are welcome. We would talk to the club, we would see if I want to go, if I don't want to go."

His comments caused a lot of unwanted publicity for Liverpool, and in a press conference on the 29th March, Rodgers inevitably faced questions about Suarez's comments, and he made it clear that he'd warned the players not to discuss club business whilst on international duty:

"I always say to players that I've got a very, very simple rule: When you're with Liverpool, just talk about Liverpool. When you're away with your international teams, just concentrate on your international team - and there's no drama".

Unsurprisingly, Suarez brazenly and shamelessly ignored Rodgers' 'rule' this week, and how can that be classified as anything other than a massive lack of respect for the manager? Examples of his comments this week include:

- "It would be very difficult to say no to Real Madrid."

- "I'm not prepared to continue suffering at the hands of the English journalists"

- "It's a good moment for a change of environment because of all I've been through."

- "I do not know when I'm going and I do not know if I'm staying."

Rodgers' request is unambiguous and very specific: do not discuss LFC whilst away with your national team. Or am I missing something?

If Suarez truly respected Rodgers - and, by extension, Liverpool - he would not ignore his manager's wishes and publicly tout himself to other clubs whilst away with Uruguay; and make no mistake, that is *exactly* what he is doing.

Regardless of my overall view of Suarez, surely it's a concern when the club's top players seemingly have no respect for the manager? If Ferguson warned his players to keep their traps shut whilst away with their national teams, do you think any of them would defy him? They wouldn't dare, and that's because they respect the manager.

It barely matters though - despite the fact Suarez has explicitly ignored a direct request from his manager, slavering Reds fans will find some way to justify/rationalise it, and as usual, the Uruguayan will somehow be painted as the victim in this scenario.

To be clear, I would not begrudge Suarez a move away. If he leaves, I won't be calling him a 'traitor', or questioning his loyalty. He's caused LFC major problems, but on a purely footballing basis, a player of Suarez's talent should be playing on the biggest stage, and it doesn't look like the Reds will reach that level for a few years yet.

REMINDER: Posts complaining about me writing about Suarez will be deleted. This is a valid issue, whether you like it or not. If you disagree, make your case. Snipers will receive one-week bans. Attack the argument, not the person.

  1. Wow. He definitely thinks he's bigger than the club. He's really succeeded at giving people the impression that he's a first class c***. Anyone who pledges loyalty in English while on the job, and then says otherwise back home in his native tongue every time he has an opportunity, is downright pathetic and it basically demonstrates unashamed back stabbing. The amount of support he has received from us just makes his actions so incomprehensible. Media making your life too hard Luis? Have a tea spoon of cement and fucking deal with it mate. No bloody other person to blame than yourself. It's such a cheap excuse. Being of above average skill does not make you above the law.

  2. I think he is trying to engineer a move away, its getting pretty obvious now.
I've heard we are looking at David Villa? Are we signing only old players now?

I'm happy either way if he goes fine go we will replace you, if he stays then okay keep your head down and don't do anything stupid. First choice for me if Suarez went would be Muriel. Similar player :-) or villa.

  5. Let him leave for as much money as possible. If Real want him then they should give us £40m or swap him for Callejon, Alonso and Higuain

  7. Get rid of him, sick of him in the papers, the way he goes on, I think he actually likes it or he is a complete an utter tool who has no self respect. Brendan could leave down a marker here with him and say, look, he can't go around doing what he likes, he is just Luis Suarez, when he is gone, Liverpool will still be there.

  8. Surely the line in the 3rd last paragraph should state 'one of the clubs top players'. The way it is written suggets that other top players at the club don't respect BR and I am not sure that is the case.

  9. Jeez - well lets just hope that if he goes (which I obviously dont want) that FSG play the same hardball tactics with sales as they do with purchases - but alas if his suggested buyout clause is true and £40m then lets just hope it gets confirmed asap - him and reina (who again I would loathe to lose) should help BR secure the "players that can come straight in and make a difference" he's been after..

I'm gonna wait until the end of the window - so far so good and perhaps BR and FSG will get it right...

Didn't Pepe Reina say something very similar this week? "Barcelona is a great club and it's difficult to say no to a club like Barcelona". I'm not saying I disagree but it proves Luis Suarez isn't the only player that does/says these things, yet he is the one who they always write about

Although a wonderful talent, the negative that comes as part of the package over-shadows the good.

His interviews seem to suggest he is not happy and that has no good ending for Liverpool if he stays.

I would be surprised if BR or the board will force him to stay, as it may have a negative impact on the team and his future value. Some clubs will think they can get him cheap, that will not be the case, so any bid over £40m should be seriously considered and quickly!

I think you're largely right on the issue, although, I would certainly question his loyalty if he went to another club i.e. he has none. I think with Suarez, and a few decent signings, Liverpool will reach the champions league places within the next season, without him I'm not so sure. BR needs to hold on to him for just one more season and then sell him for 50-60 million, depending on behaviour and performances.

I'm not the biggest Suarez fan truth be told I respect his skill and am grateful of his contribution to the club, however, I believe the heart and soul of Liverpool is a fair play team if he cannot get his discipline sorted in all aspects of his career, including his handling of the media, then BR has to send him packing.

    ReplyDelete
  17. He's gone. Time to start getting over it. Life without Luis Suarez must begin right now. We must identify the player / players that we buy with the lucrative money available from his sale.

    Moves must be made.

I'm worried about the potentially massive upheaval of the squad from this season to next. It's hard to build a team when there are so many changes occurring, for better or worse. I don't think we rely on Luis the same way some people make out, but we need an injection of World Class Talent to be taken seriously.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Is there any chance we could sell Suarez and use the money to fund a bid for Romelu Lukaku? I'm usually a fan of Suarez but I'm tired of all this crap and I think Lukaku has so much potential. If we could get Chelsea to sell him, I think he'd be a good replacement.

I sort of agree, but I think this particular thread is JK spending some time looking for a way to present Suarez in as poor a light as possible.

Let me make this clear: I have advocated the selling of Suarez providing we get more than the £40m they are talking about. If Bale is worth £60-70m, then so is Suarez.

But his article is heavily influenced by JK's known desire to be less than charitable to Luis Suarez. For instance, here's another Suarez quote:

"It is normal that it is impossible to say no to big teams for which one always dreams. Yet I have nothing, I have not spoken with Real Madrid nor with Liverpool.

"My agent has not told me anything either and that leaves me alone, but they [the media] are speculating.

"Every time you do something it becomes big. I just said I'm very happy at Liverpool and I'll be forever grateful to this great city and this club made me grow so much, where I still have a contract."
Now, that in itself doesn't mean he won't leave. But it hardly paints a picture of an ungrateful, disrespectful player.
As for not discussing Liverpool in international duty, Reina did the same recently as have several others including Stevie G in the past. I think this is s stirring, and there's plenty enough of an issue just based on what's been said .
Oh, and so much for Marca saying it's been agreed already. They are the only ones who agree. Denials have come from Suarez, his agent, and Liverpool yet JK has NO DOUBT that Marca is telling the truth, and by extension that the others are all lying....

  21. It's a good time for a change after all Suarez has put LFC through

    ReplyDelete
  22. It is clear that Suarez is using the treatment he's received from the press and, in recent reports, his daughter's well being to engineer a move away. I don't understand how he can blame the press when he's constantly feeding them with material to publish. Sure they're on his case faster than Bale and other players, but you don't see many players who consistently cloud themselves with controversy in the way Suarez does. It's such an obvious attempt to goad us gullible fans (myself included) into thinking he's being forced to leave when it's clear his eyes are set on Real. I guess he didn't get the memo that LFC fans are pretty good at seeing through BS

If he wants to go then he should grow a pair, come out and tell us publically so that BR can have time to find a replacement and not have to rush into another 35mil mistake. No more of this "I've been a victime in england" nonsense. If the contract clause speculation isnt true then we should make Real pony up at least 50mil and, more importantly, line up a striker before everything becomes public so that we're not overcharged by teams who'll know appx how much we have to spend.

It's a situation that's a little annoying considering the fact that LFC has been willing to damage its image to protect him and, with Marca report Jamie put up looking more legitimate, it might be a case where the deal is done with Real and his agent and he's trying to push LFC into selling him (blatant tapping up? blatant disrepect for LFC?).

I think he's a fantastic player and imo the best in the prem but its starting to look like LS has no respect for the club and is in it for his own personal glory. No man is bigger than LFC...

    ReplyDelete
  23. I'm not overly concerned either over whether Suarez stays or goes (assuming we get a decent fee in for him of course).

The issue for me is who we get in in his place. I'd be targeting two players (CF & WF) in the mould of Moussa Sow/Jackson Martinez + Alexis Sanchez (who must know he's going to be even more of a fringe player next year now that Neymar has arrived...)

    ReplyDelete
  24. Fair enough Jamie...You were right!!

Replacements.....Jackson Martinez? Benzema? Higuain? Benteke? Lukaku?

Would Benzema or Higuain come to us? I doubt it unfortunately. They would both be ideal.

Jackson Martinez again prob wouldn't come to us.

    ReplyDelete
  25. neither will lukaku and benteke too expensive

    ReplyDelete
  26. Totally agree. I think the biting incident was his way of trying to force Liverpool to consider selling him without actually asking for the move. He's been playing up this martyr role way too much lately. I like him as a player and wouldn't be upset if he stays but I am also getting a little tired of all these antics.

    ReplyDelete
  27. JK attacks Suarez and has done in the past because it generates hits. He likes being controversial as it makes him more money with his ads. Wake up folks. The headlines alone should give it away!

    ReplyDelete
  28. If suarez wants to leave then we cant force him to stay. We need top quality replacement. id rather see Hulk at anfield than the signings so far. We want CL qualification, then get quality signings.

    ReplyDelete
  29. To be honest, it's been coming for a little while and my guess is the club i.e the owners and manager (AND JAMIE! lol) will be quite glad that he will be gone. I think as good a footballer as he is, he is self destructive and has been his own worst enemy from the start. I'm very encouraged by the way the club has gone about sourcing players so early. I'm pretty sure we'll survive just fine without him 'he says nervously'.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Mike Aitcheson2:08 pm, May 31, 2013

He should have kept his mouth shut, and his head down, taken the overly harsh imo punishments, and got on with it.

The press have been overly nasty with him, but that would only have been apparent if he had stayed out of the limelight. Now, it's too easy for them to just say he brought it on himself, and not have to answer for their use of him in order to sell papers or get hits.

it's not actually decided yet- hence this quote:

"I do not know when I'm going and I do not know if I'm staying.

"If I stay it is because it is a great club but also in turn I know that it is difficult because of the harassment I get from the press."

But I think it will be very difficult for there to be any other outcome, and we could do an awful lot with £50-60m right now and be shut of the whole circus...

    ReplyDelete
  31. Jaimie, you are going to miss him when he is gone aren't you?!

  35. TBH it's pretty cowardly and disrespectful to the club to announce this when he's away from the club. If he had any respect he should have told Rogers to his face (or at least in a 1:1 call).
Blaming the press is just a convenient excuse.
Just hope this doesn't drag on so we have time to recruit other players. So long as we get a decent fee I'm not pessimistic - the club is bigger than any individual, however talented.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I honestly thought he was a bigger person, I understand
media is after him but at the same time he is the only one to blame for his
actions. I really thought he would stick around for one more season but it
appears this is not the case. This will put LFC in a pickle since we did not qualify
for European competitions, not sure what quality striker we will attract is he
    goes.

Lets just get rid of him as quick as we can Im sick of all this drama with him,What does piss me off is some fans thinking the sky will fall down if he goes,if he does we'll be fine, perhaps even better off (provided the money is well spent) we were fie without him for the few games he was out and with the extra players coming this summer we'll be fine....I think :)

  38. I get the impression that Brendan Rodgers has wanted him to stay before, now, after the latest continued comments he should tell Suarez he is leaving. Time to make a stand.
Yesterday on this site I said I could see it as potentially positive for Liverpool whether Suarez stays or goes, now, in the long run I believe it better if he goes for as much as we can get. As Jaimie correctly states, after BRs warning about speaking to the press, this is a smack in the face and cannot be tolerated.
As I said previously, selling Suarez will probably put us at least 1 transfer window ahead in building terms compared to where we would be if he stayed, as long as the money is spent wisely this time.
It may cost us our chance of qualifying for Champions League next season by selling Suarez (and it may not) but Liverpool will be better in the long run for selling him. We are trying to build a team, not a group of players who rely on 1 individual to turn a game for them.
If the choice is selling Suarez or selling our soul, there can only be 1 answer, sell Suarez. That will be 50M Mr Perez thanks very much. Oh, and we want the deal done quickly, we need to be able to buy the correct replacements, no last minute deals, no players swaps, we want to buy our own targets and want the Suarez money in full, in cash right now.
It should be made clear to Madrid that any bullying tactics/delays will only hinder our dealings with them. You talk of wanting Suarez, put your money where your mouth is and pay up now, in full, or we will sell to someone who is willing to deal with us in the right manner. Make a stand Liverpool.

  40. I dont think it will be the FSG way, we havent really sold off any top talent and replaced with cheap players yet so i hope it doesnt start.
we sold Torres for 50m and replaced him with 57m worth of Suarez and Carroll.
Atleast i hope im right :P

    ReplyDelete
  41. Ive said this whole time that i hope he stays but if he leaves then aslong as we get the 40m in the release clause.
Its a better team with Suarez on the field but if he leavs and we cant work out a good attack with what we have in our young players and 40m then Suarez leaving isnt the real problem.
I dont think we would need to go out and chuck all our money at one player but if we can bring in maybe 2-3 players that can gel with what we have then hopefully we can be even better without him

  43. And finally the penny drops. The guy is a shameless liar and a coward. Beckham had effegies of him hanged. His own fans wished cancer on his child. Ronaldo was mercilessly taken apart for winking. Those guy had more self respect and honesty in their little finger than Suarez. The sad thing is even in this final lap of self indulgence we suffer. They say Real feel that they can get him for £20M and Callejon. All he had to do is shut up and let his agent do the work. Now he's taken away our bargaining chips and set us up for a summer of lowball offers. Hope you didn't put his name on your brand new shirts lads.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Also just noticed on another site that RM want to other 23m euros + Callejon.
which i think is a bit laughable.
maybe 30m pounds + Callejon and maybe Morata (like the cut of this kids jib) but i dunno maybe the 40m!!! in his damn release clause you cheap buggers!

  46. Jamie whilst I love your energy I do doubt your fareness. Your right of course Rogers made a specific simple rule. Talk about liverpool at Liverpool and national team when away. However I can't remember the same article from you on The other two players who gave out signals this week. Riena and Skrtel have both made comments about leaving and other clubs. I think the rule goes for them as well.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Do you really think that he's put us in a position to gamble? He's made it a buyers market. Remember he has gone on strike before.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Actually, statistically we're not better with him in the team. I posted an article which said as much but my guess is mean ol Jaimie won't have it on this site. Anyway, I digress. Your point of buying a few players to replace him is great, hopefully we can now swoop in and but Erikson and put that transfer to bed, I think we'll be just fine without Suarez.

  50. wishful thinking mostly lol :P

    ReplyDelete
  51. I still believe that biting Ivanovic was his get out clause. All along Suarez had been saying that the vitriol from the press only made him stronger, so why is it a problem now? He probably doesn't believe in the 'Liverpool project'. With Toure coming in, Alex Pearce rumoured and his countryman Coates likely to be sold, who can blame him?

Still, from a footballing perspective, I'd be sad to see him go.

  53. On a completely unrelated topic does anyone think Mikel San Jose would be a cheaper option if we cant sign Papa (which is looking very likely).
Now i know he probably wouldnt wanna come back to liverpool, but at 24 he is quite the tidy player, Hes got very good ball control and his passing is very suited to what we are trying to do at LFC.
    any thoughts?

    ReplyDelete
  54. Well, he probably wasn't discussing about Liverpool, but about himself only. Suaréz seems to be a bit lacking when it comes to intellectual ability, he seems to be a bit thick, indeed.

I am really torn on this one. It's difficult to see us losing our best player, but by now the media attention he grabs is just getting too much, even for me. There was no need to discuss his future in the media, even though I don't see it as him being disrespectful to our manager, just pretty thick.

Now, lets hope that 40m release clause is not there and we can get closer to 60m for him.

With regard this article, its been an ongoing narrative [this season] that BR does not have enough authority especially with senior players. This may alter if he brings a few trophies. Unfortunately these days respect is earned and not just handed on a plate.

What you're left with is Evra, which I personally believe he only said once, but should still have been banned, and his biting, which was pathetic and worth a ban also.
Plenty enough, so enough already of sounding like a tabloid journalist

Name a player other than Suarez who has brought the wrong kind of attention to Liverpool ever since Craig Bellamy went after John Arna Risse with a golf club some years ago. Bellamy was sold to Man City shortly after that by Benitez. No one has misbehaved on the Liverpool squad since then until Suarez.

  80. that would be funny if Borini has a breakout season next season after Suarez leaves. Suarez is a special player that is for sure. A special nut case . If he leaves his goals would be missed. I wish we can get in a 20 goal a season striker as a replacement. Borini is certainly not that at all. We'll just wait and see.

  81. He stated he wants to go in new quotes today. So much so that Liverpool have come out saying he has to honour his contract. Rightly so too. He wants to leave. That's 100% correct.

    ReplyDelete
  82. He said he wants to go. LFC will make him honour the remain years. Maybe we can get one more year from him but he has disrespected LFC with his quotes

  86. I don't understand why liverpool have to come out and say that Suarez is not for sale. If a player don't want to stay, let him leave. Nobody is bigger than the club.

If the money is reinvest properly, it will make liverpool a more balanced squad.

If Suarez's reason for leaving lfc is the English media, I will be extremely disappointed with him. That's not a good excuse IMO. Liverpool supported him throughout his time here and this is how he show his loyalty?

Appreciate his contribution to lfc, but it's time for him to go. No use forcing him to stay or drag the situation.

  89. I normally hate Jamie's anti Suarez rubbish, however in this case I can do nothing but agree with him. Luis is disrespecting the club and therefore me! I have always supported him and found excuses for his behaviour. However, I do not want to see a player in red who doesn't have is heart in the club. End Of.

If we get an offer of £40 mill I would sell him and be done with him, I am liking LFC's transfer policy atm (Aspas looks exciting, and Toure on a free is good experience in the dressing room, which we lack) If we buy well this could be the best thing to happen to LFC this summer.

I like Meireles until he wanted to go, I see no difference here, if he wants to go he can leave and we can go out and buy some new exciting players.

My only worry is that this will unsettle the team as they don't want to see the best players leave, however, if we brought in Eriksen and another potentially world class player I think that would settle the nerves, but Rodgers must act quickly, things need to be in place for pre-season otherwise we are going to be having a "transitional" season.

  93. cannot believe the amount of anti suarez drivel conjured up by chief whip jaimie fair enough if he wants to leave to better his carear ,who can blame him torres did it before him ,and the next player we have who turns out to be world class(could be coutinho )will do it after him ,the amount of stick hes got of the english press and fa have not helped neither, neither have his antics on the pitch, but at the end of the day if we were successful or looked like we were trying to sign players with the intention of getting back amongest the elite, our top players mite stick around for longer than a couple of seasons, the board promised us any player in the world when they took over the club ,well i say its now time to deliver ,tell suarez to give us one more season on the condition we sign a couple of world class players who can help us get top four next season ,and if we do not achieve our goal he would be allowed to leave on good terms, who knows we mite exceed our own expectations with a couple more world class players and suarez may not feel the need to go anywhere,

  94. Jamie I support you from now on for being against Suarez. Its like the club and the fans have gone through everything just for their hero and now what he gives in return is a knife on the back. Believe it or not people but Jamie was right all this time about how Suarez was disrespecting the whole LFC and its fans. I hope we get 40million plus and kick him as soon as we receive the amount. I just can't believe still some fans backing him up. This is pathetic LS supporters. BTW I was also a huge Suarez fan before all this cropped up, and believe me this is all being done by LS just so that he can engineer a move to RM or any other club. I hope we do kick him ASAP and bring a replacement.

Either of those amounts less than we'll get for Suarez?
Those days are gone, the previous fees are irrelevant. Do you think ANYBODY will pay Newcastle £35m for a striker again? RVP was £25m
Lukaku will be 3rd or 4th choice striker if Cavani or any other top striker joins Chelsea. He will be faced with another season on loan or on the bench. He himself may well decide he would rather play 1st team football.
Benteke has only 1 season at the top level. No way will he fetch £30m. Be surprised if it beats £20m
You said we couldn't afford them. We can. They're just not going to cost those sort of figures after 1 good season

  100. I have no problem with him leaving for REAL MADRID the biggest club in the world. But to come out and say he's concerned about his image, what a joke!
He plays up to the pantomime villain character by giving the media ammunition to shoot him with and then acts surprised when he gets shot. It's very easy to stop bad press, don't do things that get you banned.

You couldn't make it up. He blames the media for him leaving but doesn't announce it to his club but via the media when he is thousands of miles away. What a hero. Liverpool legend alongside Diouf, Itanje, Jovanovic and Voronin. Men of real character.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Nothings wrong with LS saying that it would be difficult to say no to teams like Real because Xabi, Maca, and loads more LFC greats have done the same thing. I honestly think Pepe was ready to go but we stood firm, didn't budge, and Barca decided to convince Valdes to stay. The difference is that Reina only said what most players would have, LS has gone a lot further and basically lined up all these excuses over multiple interviews as a reason to leave england and in turn LFC

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  117. you can call it clutching at what you want.fsg lied to him from day one he was signed to play with torres and i would not put it past fsg that they new torres was off before he signed torres as always said the truth about is transfer would come out some day.why would he (torres still say it now if every thing was black and white

    ReplyDelete

  125. why is it every time we have spent big money they have sold our star player we have just signed 3 players already and i said no doubt we will lose big players the other day ,they sell to buy and sucker the fans well not me i see them for what they are ,money grabbers and i have no doubt i will be proven right in the long run

    ReplyDelete
  126. i agree but so what ,would you rather have a player like suarez who gives 110% every game even in a practise match(so may well overstep the mark from time to time )or someone like the player we have just signed troure happy to sit on a bench and pick up his wages

    ReplyDelete
  127. JC Seriously? You're really gonna blame the owners for this one, really? Come on man you're on a wind up surely? The team and club have done nothing but back him even to the detriment of the clubs image. What money are they grabbing exactly? The money they haven't even made back from buying the club and paying off the debt that was dragging the club under? Thing is, I'm not a massive fan of the owners, to be honest I'm not even a big fan of Suarez any more after the idiotic bite, but what you're saying ain't fair.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  130. That makes no sense they're in two different positions? Besides, Suarez isn't even as good as he could be if he had the right mentality, he doesn't just over step the mark mate, the mark is on the horizon, the mark is a dot...to Suarez

    ReplyDelete
  131. not if we go for balotelli ;)

    ReplyDelete
  132. Jason, we all know that in reality the Suarez deal was done weeks before Torres handed in his transfer request. And what did FSG do with the Torres? Invested £35M of it into another striker same day. What did they do subsequently? Spend the best part of £50M on attacking players (Downing, Adam, Henderson). After that? Hey another £50M on attacking players (Sturridge, Coutinho, Allen, Sahin, Borini, Assaidi). Listen, I don't know if you've ever been a pimp (although I don't put it past you you sly son of a gun) or even listened to Snoop Dogg but the No 1 rule is this: 'you can't turn a ho into a housewife'. You may think you can. Some might trick you into thinking that they are, but when you've got a guy who's already gone on strike to force a transfer why wouldn't you think he'll do it again? He bit someone again. Jason, it's harsh to be told that you married a ho but if you don't handle it as soon as you know you're just setting yourself up for misery. Let the ho be a ho and let's move on

Jason you are making things up to suit your argument. FSG put all the money they make into the team again. Isn't there fault Torres went he saw £££ and ran, Suarez hasn't been sold yet, if he does all his money will go into a replacement.

    ReplyDelete
  137. they own the club they got it cheap they have spent nothing out of there own pocket they can sell tomorrow for a fat profit but they want a fatter profit hence they will start the ground development when financial fair play comes in so that they do not spend any of there money then as well

  151. correction.

They didn`t pay G&H anything as such. G&H were ousted by the other directors on a 3-2 vote. In many ways it was a hostile takeover, due to the other two directors (G&H) not having the best interest of the company (liverpool) at stake. All Directors have to act in the best interest of the company and not by personal best interest. The directors included Martin Broughton who was brought in on behalf of Barclays to make sure the debt was re-paid.

When FSG brought the club they paid around 300mil to the club. Out of this 300mil 240ish was used to pay off the debt, there was also 38mil debt left in the club, which I think still exists and has gone up a little.

At no point did FSG pay 300mil for the club, then another 300mil to pay off the debt. Due to the nature of the deal The money H&G owed via the club had to be repaid by the money FSG used to buy it.

To suggest they paid 300mil for the club, then another to pay off the debt would suggest G&H walked away with 300mil on there pocket. They didn`t and this is why they took FSG to court over it.

  154. I am disappointed that Suarez is blaming the media in his latest international comments. He's brought this on himself through his behaviour on the pitch. No one is to blame but himself. He's 26 years old and a father. Should grow up, grow a pair and do the bizzo on the pitch. If he wants the media to write glowing articles about him, then he's got to cut out the nonsense. The press in Spain are brutal as well, so moving there would yield the same problems IMO.
£40M is not enough for Suarez, but if for example we could sign:
    Thiago CM - Barcelona £15M
    Lucas Digne LB- Lille £10M
    Luis Muriel CF- Udinese £15M
That would improve the squad depth with 3 quality young players, leaving Brendan the £20M from FSG + monies from selling Skrtel, Downing, Coates and possibly Reina (approx £35M) to buy 2/3 CB: Alderweild- Ajax, Kurt Zouma, Papadopolous, Sakho. A GK : Courtois, ter Stegen, Zieler,

I get the feeling that Suarez like Torres were asked to play the pantomine villain so as to ease what would have been a pretty large backlash from the Liverpool fans against the board. This smacks to me of mutual consent between both club and player. But if Suarez wants to leave he'll have to leave the love of the fans at the door and place the board in a position where the fans are sympathetic towards them.

thats my take........PR is everything when cashing in..........

All in all If Suarez goes "cherio, cherio, cheriooooooo"

One of the best footballers I have ever seen, but unfortunately he is head and shoulders above the rest our squad. We need to balance out the squad in terms of quality by selling him . Onwards and upwards, the king is dead long live Coutinho!

    ReplyDelete
  156. People forget what Beckham and Ronaldo went through in the media for tripping a guy and winking. They got death threats and England fans screamed that they hoped his baby got cancer. Pound for pound Suarez got off ok.

    ReplyDelete
  163. I'm going to go with both a positive and a negative approach here.

On the negative: He should not say anything, period. I agree with Jaimie in that Suarez is not doing himself or the club any favors.

On the positive: He's not saying anything bad about LFC. He's complaining about everything but LFC.

Is he still disrespecting the club and the manager? Yes. And he needs to stop talking.

    ReplyDelete
  164. Pffft, they were letting up somewhat for a while before the bite. Before the Ivanovic bite, the 'bad' attention was dying down as he was behaving, no diving and was actually getting plaudits for his form, in relation to being a contender for the award. But then he turned into a lunatic once again. I just can not see how you can seriously defend or excuse him to the extent you have done but each to their own.

  170. So I want to make a contribution in all honesty (even though this might not get posted or whatever) its media like this that put suarez in this predicament I mean I fully understand where he's coming from when every other day its mirro or daily mail with some hunking scoop about the times and life of LS its horrible why can't people get behind LS from as early as when he went 'off' with the whole evra incident I am a blavk person from the caribbean and from day one I've backed suarez and of all people I have the right to be most upset with the whole begrito comment when I went england to visit my mom who died of cancer a white man called me a nigger but I know the difference I know suarez was different I backed him and media like ya'll blast him if suarez goes and liverpool does a dive then its good ya'll looked for that whatever decision suarez makes I back him and if he ever comes up on this I've always supported u

    ReplyDelete
  171. Yes, he's a great player but tbh I'd rather have a player that wasn't sat on the side lines for 20+ games because he keeps getting banned for stupid behaviour. And just to put that in perspective that's over half a season.

Agree he gets a hard time from the press but he's only got himself to blame.

    ReplyDelete
  172. i will back any player, plying their trade in our great shirt, i did with suarez (even when he was out of order). now i am sick of him and WANT him to go asap. go to madrid and bore them with your whiney moaning.

  173. I'm a black man too and I completely disagree. If a man refers to my race during an argument which is not about race 99 times out of 100 I would consider it to be a racist remark. I truly feel sorry for what happened to you and I'm not saying that the degree of Suarez's racism is the same as that idiot's but it is still uncalled for and completely unnecessary. To compound it by refusing to shake the man's hand despite promising the manager that he would belies the guy's true nature: an arrogant, selfish, unrepentant liar. To criticise the media for criticising his catalogue of petulant and disrespectful actions in the short 2 and a half years that he has been here misses the point entirely. The point is that he gave them fodder. Beckham and Ronaldo learnt that if you behaved the media leave you be. If he truly believes that he'll get an easier ride from the media at Madrid perhaps he should have a word with Jose Mourinho who is leaving Madrid citing unfair media scrutiny.

  178. i can understand where u are coming from my point was there has been a lot of media criticism against suarez and u can understand that it is outrageous i read a story in the daily mail where a kid bit another kid and they said it was suarez's fault for showing that that behaviour was acceptable really and well with the evra point it is man u so who knows what to believe when it comes to that club but if suarez was indeed a racist why does he not seem to show some discomfort round raheem, wisdom, sturridge or any of our black players at the end of the day a racist no matter how hard they try would have melted or broken down to some extent by now

Dear Suarez. Please bite Jamie K in the ass before you leave, he deserves it. Good luck in sunny spain. YNWA.

  181. Hey knock yourself out, if you're being pendantic ramble away. If you put up reasons to support your argument you should be prepared to have those reasons questioned, I believe that's the raison d'etre of the comments section.
I simply asked why you added the handball which was made out to be cheating but turned out to be considered by the majority to be unintentional as part of a list of his misdemeanours.(he didn't put it in with his hand actually, try to keep up) He was found not guilty of that "punch. So you included things which he actually found NOT to have done.
So. A simple question then. You could have answered it or ignored it but instead resorted to a playground retort. Point out where I said I determined how much or little you should include and you might have a case.
Otherwise try reading the parts where I said he should be punished for the legitimate misdemeanours before accusing me of acting like his nearest relatives
In fact, don't bother. You put what you like, nobody will ever dare question you again all seeing Beast.

Funny how many people on this site have suddenly turned on Suarez, just because he says that the time MAY be right for a move. He's the 3rd best player in the world right now (in my opinion), Liverpool don't seem to be matching his ambition [see: Toure, Kolo], and you can see that he just doesn't seem to enjoy playing any more. And if you don't enjoy your job, frankly what's the fncking point??

Jason Carr had a valid point that FSG intimated that Suarez would play with Torres, then Fernando jumped ship. At least all the season ticket money for next season was in by Tuesday night, so I honestly don't think FSG give a flying one either way, tbh.

Did NOBODY even wonder why the season ticket renewals were sent out so early this season? It certainly wasn't to fund a "War Chest" (copyright every shit rag in this country) for Rodgers to build a CL team. I think this has been on the cards for a while, so FSG made sure that they got all our money in before the shit hit he fan. (Cue : the shit "bit" the fan gags....)

It's a good job I'm not into conspiracy theories otherwise I would even go as far as to suggest that FSG want him out (sponsors etc) but know he is/was a hero and there would probably be a backlash. So he has to ASK for a move (remember, Torres said that nobody knows the real truth about him leaving, but that it would come out one day).

Oh well, if you do go Luis, thanks for some GREAT moments and some GENIUS goals. Pity you played so well in the 3-1 against United really, because your card was forever marked in this country after showing THEM up in front of a world-wide audience.

Ps. Isn't it about time something was done about Real Madrid? We get the same shit EVERY time their president is up for re-election. He merely has to covet a player , and the media arm of Real (Marca) - [Pravda]- make up whatever they want and basically poach their targets for them. The really scary thing is that Gareth Bale is their top target, yet the press is still intent on a Suarez frenzy.

Just goes to show who the REAL player of the year was...... ;)

no, because of his flimsy excuse for doing so. But hey, ignore that, plenty of people are just getting annoyed with Suarez for no good reason(!)

  184. I put up a comment you replied and I answered in a way that leaves you with your knickers in a twist, grow up.You don't have to throw in French phrases to prove your intelligence thats established by your super rant.
"Try to keep up" It's very hard to hang with someone thats so knowledgable as yourself MIKE.If being condescending was a sport, you'd be olympic champion.
*Yawn* FFS ok SUAREZ is a fantastic player who's never done anything wrong end of boring conversation!
"Resorted to a playground retort" What like you've just done your not one to take the high ground then. That relatives line really got under your skin, it was dry humour get over it.
People can question me all they like I just hope they can handle what I say back because you clearly can't.Hopefully this is the end and i won't more whining from you but I have feeling you'll go on like bad music on repeat.Au revoir!

No need to be condescending, I know he never handled it in but without his hand he wouldn't of scored. But it came at him very quick so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. The punch, he swings and misses is let off so let's just sweep that under the carpet.

  186. I think that this is the most misunderstood thing about racist behaviour. There are degrees of racism. Just because someone has been racist on one or two occasions doesn't make them a racial fundamentalist. It just means that on occasion they are prepared to use race in a negative and disrespectful manner. Some people are racist to a more absolute or even violent degree. Some less so. Some even unconsciously so. Truth time here but I can confess that on occasion I have said some homophobic remarks in my time. Do I have a problem working or having a laugh with a gay person? No. Should I refer to people's sexuality in a negative and antagonistic manner in the future? No. Does the fact that I have used homophobic language in the past make me a homophobe? I don't think so but it's pretty much semantics at this point. The bottom line is I should never have said what I said, be truly contrite and then we can all move on and improve as human beings. Excuse the pun but it's really not as black and white as "I said something racist therefore I believe in the absolute separation of the races". The question isn't whether Suarez is a white supremacist but if he used Evra's race to wind him up. Given the history of racism and how quickly it tends to escalate, I fully believe that he needed to be held accountable for that and having read the judgement and Suarez's very unlikely and inconsistent version of events, I think he was. The only problem is that he didn't apologise to Evra as soon as the incident came to light as I believe it would have been dropped there and then. But as we have seen since Suarez doesn't do honesty and personal responsibility and that is the crux of his problem.

  187. In my mind Luis Suarez is a player that doesn't come around too often. Liverpool need this player, if they get rid of him, how can they replace him? Where are the hopes of returning to the top 4 and vying for a title again. Liverpool should fight to make this guy stay. People are saying club comes first, treat the club with respect. Luis Suarez hasn't done that, but I still want whats best for the club. And that isn't selling Luis Suarez!!! Sturridge is good, same with Coutinho, but outside those 2 players Liverpool don't have another player that will perform at a top level as consistent as Suarez. One thing you will find out with Sturridge is that he will be a world beater one day, and has no impact the next day. Countinho's mould also puts him in that consistency problem as well. With Suarez, we have a player that on a day when he doesn't score goals, he can still impact the game with his intelligence and link up play. Swallow the pride and look at the future of Liverpool without Suarez. It isn't pretty. Why should Real Madrid buy this guy for their aspirations.

  188. I'd much rather have him upfront than this Aspas guy - an experienced, powerful & fast striker with a decent goalscoring record vs a small striker with a very average goalscoring record...

  189. the talent doesn't disappear without a good reason - Sanchez has had a bad year with Barcelona, but it's difficult to just jump into a team that has been together as long as they have. Even Fabregas struggled and he was brought up there!

The issue, luis shouldn't be discussing LFC matters whilst away on international duty, agreed, its upto the club how they respond. There is another 'issue' raised in this article, the tone of the reference to LFC fans as 'slavering Reds fans' is insulting in the extreme and completely unnecessary, unless it was placed in the article to get a response such as mine. LFC fans are in the main, like a lot of other football fans fiercely loyal, would the writer also say that the United fans who turned on then forgave Rooney when he 'last' put in a transfer request or the city fans who did the same re Tevez, were 'slavering' ? This isn't an attack on the writer but it is on the unnecessarily insulting tone that is used. Loyalty to ones club is laudable, not something to be sneered at.

  192. I still don't think you understand the nature of Luis Suarez. If he doesn't get his move he will go on strike. He did the same thing at Groningen when they tried to play hardball. I doubt he will ever return to England outside of a Champions League match so we don't hold the chips. It is clear that all he's trying to do is drive his price down otherwise all of this could have been done in private. There was no need for press conferences and such. It's not as if the club have treated him poorly. The only benefit of this is for Luis Suarez and Real Madrid. He knows that we can't spend £120K a week on a player who refuses to play. We have to play brinkmanship now but we can't keep him, he's made that abundantly clear. The only positive is that he's done it early enough to scout for replacements (swap for Higuain?) but he's made sure that the bidding starts at £20M and probably won't go above £30M. Barca did the same thing with Mascherano and we lost a £25M valued player for £18M (purchase price). Suarez is dead to us. The only question is what do we do about the body.

Why is the constant media abuse "flimsy"? They've been on his case ever since they realised that LFC finally had a world-class player on their hands. And we can't be having that, now, can we?
