Reports this week claim that Liverpool are 'leading the race to sign Porto winger Christian Atsu', and the young Ghanaian attacker has now made it clear that he wants a move to the Premier League.
According to Sky Sports on Monday:
"Liverpool are leading the race to sign Porto winger Christian Atsu.
"Talks are thought to be continuing between the Reds and Porto".
When quizzed yesterday about transfer interest from the Premier League, Atsu told reporters in Ghana:"
"I only have a one year contract and my childhood dream was always to play in the Premier League"
A few months ago, Tony Yeboah argued that Atsu could 'shine in the Premier League' and achieve everything he wants to' in English football, and this week, the Leeds United hero urged Atsu to join Liverpool. He told Portuguese newspaper Jornal Record:
"“Liverpool is the biggest team in England with a lot of tradition. They are playing some good football and their new manager allows the youth to play. It [a move to Anfield] is a nice opportunity to take his [Atsu's] game to the next level. It will benefit his development. "
21-year old Atsu - who won the Primeira Liga with Porto last week - has €10m buyout clause in his contract, but in recent months, he's fallen out of favour at the Estadio do Dragao due to a refusal to sign an extended contract.
Atsu is reguarlaly labelled the 'Ghanaian Messi', but it's not a nickname he cares for, as he told BBC Sport recently:
"That tag ‘Messi’ doesn’t put any pressure on me. Messi is my idol. There's no Ghanaian Messi, there is no other Messi in this world. I can never play even one percent of what Messi is doing. It's impossible."
Marseille star Andre Ayew is convinced that Atsu is destined for great things. He told the BBC recently:
"Ghanaians put too much pressure on him [Atsu], but I believe that he's going to be a great player."
Former Sunderland striker Asamoah Gyan agrees with that assessment:
"I've seen all the games that he has played for Ghana and he's been incredible. If he continues this way he's going to be a star."
Worth a bid...?
Always worth seeing Yeboah's goal again. I actually went to this game; crap result, but amazing goal nonetheless:

Still on the fence with this one
ReplyDeletelets please get him! hes fast and he will be a class player.
ReplyDeleteAt all i would be happy with some proven players, and i dont mean players like Cavain, Higuain, Lewandowski etc. the whole world wants them, people should face the fact were not able to get those players...
With the 40m we get for suarez we should try to find the Michus out there. Raid in germany and spain, these are the contries to look at. there also some good shouts in ligue 1.
He a good player and young, if we can get him cheap then yes go for it :-)
ReplyDeleteplease rodgers do not waste the suarez money on players like this(if suarez goes )jaimie i did not think we would get another thread of you today hows your head after celebrating on the champers all day,i bet its banging,as kevin keagan said ,i would love it just love it (if suarez stays just to winde you up;-)
ReplyDeleteif we can get him cheap don,t make me laugh if we cannot get him dirt cheap hes not a lfc type of player
ReplyDeleteHe has one year left on his contract he isn't going to sign another contract. That's why he will be cheap :)
ReplyDeleteWho is?? You wanted a player from the championship to come to LFC but someone with CL experience is not??
ReplyDeletehe has potential and would be a bargain imo this player is not
ReplyDeletehes cheap because the big boys do not want him ,if messi had a year left and said he was going would he be cheap
ReplyDeleteor waste the money completly lie we have before when we have gone down this road eg diouf
ReplyDeletewe need wingers that have pace and get get past a player. Atsu will do nicely.
ReplyDeleteHe looks good on YouTube ..Like others, but whether he'll cut it amongst the big boys is another thing.
ReplyDeleteand then do what put a good cross into the box for a good target man we do not have one
ReplyDeleteJason, because big boys don't want him doesn't mean he bad, also spurs want him too :-)
ReplyDeletei rest my case ,i remember when spurs were a little club in london now they have overtooken us
ReplyDeletethey had time to build, we are doing that now, everything takes times.
ReplyDeleteiam forty by the time fsg build i will be dead and so will my grandchildren who have not been born yet
ReplyDeleteIf they keep putting money into the club then it shouldn't take that long :-)
ReplyDeletefor f"ck sake i look good on you tube
ReplyDeleteYes, don't exaggerate or anything.
ReplyDeletesuarez
ReplyDeleteshould he stay or should he go now
if he stays they will be trouble
but if he goes they could be double
so you got to let me know should he stay or should he go
and i say stay stay stay
fsg do not take the 40 million pay
but you have got to let me know should he stay or should he go
lol
ReplyDeletei,am not its my opinion i do not see any hope under fsg
ReplyDeleteWhy does Atsu not have potential? Please explain what you base this on? Have you even watched him play? Why are you so dead-set against this guy? Seems to me you're slating him for no apparent reason.
ReplyDeleteThis love affair between you and him has to end, I know you've been 'bitten' by the Suarez ......bug lol
ReplyDeleteYou're really getting on my nerves again. I'm not interested in your backhanded bitching about my view on Suarez. If I see *one more* post that alludes to and/or hints at it, you will receive a one-month ban.
ReplyDeleteSorry...I spat tea outta my nose reading this lol
ReplyDeleteall i am saying is if we sell suarez we need a world class player and hes not the one hes a squad player ,we need a marque signing but who in their right mind would come
ReplyDeleteThis is one of the emptiest and baseless arguments spouted by fans: the idea that a player must be crap because the 'big boys' apparently aren't interested. It's total nonsense. There are dozens of top players available in every transfer window - are all top clubs supposed to purse every single one of them?!
ReplyDeleteOf course not. That's impossible. Laziest excuse going.
jaimie we signed coutinho and hit lucky apart from that the cream normally rises to the top hence the world and is dog wants them we have tried to unearth a diamond for years and ended up mostly with a lump of coal
ReplyDeletei have no love affair with suarez but over the last few seasons hes been one of the very few reasons that as kept us worth watching i just do not get my head round selling our best players and before everyone blames suarez ,maybe just maybe if the club matched the players ambitions for once we mite not be in this predicament every time we get a class player
ReplyDeleteThe 'cream normally rises to the top'? Anymore cliches you'd like to throw around. Your vitriol towards FSG makes no sense. You endlessly lionise, praise and implicitly condone Suarez's behaviour, but you give FSG grief? Your priorities are all wrong (IMO), but that's your right. FSG = the club. Suarez = the individual, therefore your preference is clear.
ReplyDeleteEveryone blames Suarez because he deserves blame. He is a blight on LFC, and he has no respect for Rodgers, or the club. Who cares though - he's a good player! Let's just forget everything negative he does and give him a pass for being a quality player.
ReplyDeleteIf Suarez didn't cause so many problems then he wouldn't be leaving. It's nothing to do with LFC's ambition; that remains, as always, to be the best, and achieve the best, and if that's not good enough for Saint Luis, then let him leave.
Atsu is up there thinking...Thought this damn thread was about me!! lol
ReplyDelete.....Moving on from all the negativity thrown at FSG. I think it's great we are going for young players with hunger who can be molded into stars and also learn the importance of playing for our great club.
ReplyDeletewhat is the point of another wide man putting crosses into the area when theres no one in there ???
ReplyDeletewhat, not even Sturridge or Aspas (lol I wonder how he ACTUALLY passes the ball) or even the mighty Borini?
ReplyDeleteno m8 u have a great face for radio
ReplyDeleteif your asking who i would have over suare and fsg(fsg could take a long walk of a short cliff pardon the cliches)suarez over lfc thats different on the other end of the stick (woops another cliche) but if suarez had scored 50 goals this season and we had scrapped 4th place you would still want him out so you would be priortizing your dislike over the good of the club.therefore your preference is clear
ReplyDeleteoh m8 fair comment lol
ReplyDeleteNo. I always prioritise the club. It doesn't matter if Suarez scores 100 goals - that doesn't make it okay for him to bite/cheat etc. You and so many others are willing to ignore his negative aspects just because he's a good player. In my view, that is wrong.

jaimie when have i ever said suarez is a saint if you look at posts i have made today on other threads i,ve said he does not help himself but maybe i try and see good in every one apart from fsg
ReplyDeletelol yes i agree lets give the lad his 5mins of fame iam sure hes waiting with baited breath to see what I have to say about him ,not to sure he will be that botherd about your opinion thou lol;-)
ReplyDeleteI said he looks good on YouTube that's a good enough opinion for now.
ReplyDeleteQuestion, where is the catch? Generally we only sign players who have a defect, or been on injuries so we can get them cheap. Anyone know if this guy has much in his closet?
ReplyDeleteSturridge = injured a lot, hadnt played much, rumoured bad attitude
Coutinho = Injury history and hadnt forfilled potential at Inter
Borini = Injuried and hadnt forfilled potential hence switching clubs loads
Aspa = Nutter, head butts players
Toure = Not played much in two years and banned for doing coke
Allen = No bad history that I know of
Assaidi = no bad history.
Sahin (loan) hadnt forfilled potential at Real, and had injury problems.
This guy must have a catch too? Not that, that is a bad thing as the ones who have a catch have played better than those who didn`t, (minus Borini being injured all the time still).
Dont knock Marcus Babbel, he was class.
ReplyDeleteRyan Babel on the other hand!
You missed on...
ReplyDeleteSuarez = NUTTER lol
sorry i shoud have been more persific we have had loads of bab over the years ;-)
ReplyDeleteI`m only listing people signed by BR as that is when this new policy seems to have come in place. I have written about it before in other articles, that this is football moneyball. Football moneyball isnt signing cheap young players as thats almost impossible as in football you cost more when young, a young talent can cost 20mil plus easy and usually only goes down in value. Football moneyball is signing players who could be great but have either not hit potential or have issues so there value stays lower and are easier to sign. Also young can then be brought. What top clubs wants a risky young player when they can buy a non risky young player.
ReplyDeletebilly did you go to the funeral today (in rotherham )it cost be a fortune with the collection plate the vicar kept looking over to check everyone was contributing and i was sat between the chuckle brothers
ReplyDeleteso jason who should we get? jordan rhodes or randy rhoads... oh wait, randy cant be signed...
ReplyDeleteyou know we cant get the top talent at the moment? and you arent happy that we try our luck with players that could be top talent in few years of time.
so we need to sign players that arent great but are good? that wont get us top 4 in next year or the year after or the year after... but if our gamble with the youngsters work out we might be there in two years time
and if it does not as we are seeing time and time again over the years we will stay the same,we have to be realistic yes but also ambitious
ReplyDeletehave you picked your tea off the floor yet lol;-)
ReplyDeleteYou make some very good points and the honest answer is, I don't know. Although i'm not so sure the whole moneyball thing is being followed meticulously by FSG.
ReplyDeleteYeah, 3 second rule mate...golden
ReplyDeletecome off it we had the hugeryest player in the league and he mite be leaving
ReplyDeleteIn fairness to Spurs they were a massive club in England not just London, then like ourselves went downhill.
ReplyDeletei doubt we can be ambitious with our current financial situation. which is still hell of a lot better than few years ago.
ReplyDeletei rather we are smart.
when the financial fairplay rules kick in, then we can be ambitious cause if they arent a joke and actually work, we have a change to land top class talent
yes one more strike and iam out i feel like iam on deathrow waiting for them to say todays the day any last requests;-)
ReplyDeleteSeriously, you couldn't use another way to describe him? Especially after/......uh...teas gone again..lololol
ReplyDeleteour transfers arent based on moneyball mathematics... our transfer policy is based on re-sale value. which i do not like. cause it effectively makes us a feeder club for the bigger clubs.... a british ajax if you will. sucks
ReplyDeleteyeah I don`t actually think it is either, more just a trend I noticed and picked up on. I would imagine there main aim is just young players who are cheap as they can be. The follow on from that is that they will prob be injury prone (which we are seeing with Sturridge) or a bit off the rails. Prob isn`t on there list of key points when looking, more just what comes up when looking for young cheap talent.
ReplyDeletei will tell you now when that rule comes in fsg will start on the ground improvements then we still will lag behind
ReplyDeletehahaha ...Hungriest player...priceless. I'm having an Indian for me tea what are you having Louis, Sirloin Serbian, with a nice Chianti lol
ReplyDeleteyou mean 10min rule right? it is 10mins aint it...
ReplyDeletef"cking hell zantos how old are you ,you must be 90 lol your doing well with modern technology
ReplyDeletehahaha, mate im early thirties, but my dad is from that area, and thus supported them before moving away (still does support them). Therefore I was horribley informed of there greatness as a child, much to my disliking lol
ReplyDeleteno thats fergie time;-)
ReplyDeleteyou are right. which is sad cause the ground improvements shouldve been done five years ago.
ReplyDeleteiam just having nibbles
ReplyDeleteHmm I think it's just smart business really, Barca have been doing it (When we haven't got in there first). Selling a young 'promising' player for a profit makes perfect sense, especially if we don't feel the player can reach their potential with us.
ReplyDeleteall dads are like that my sons all think lfc are magic i brainwashed them and they knew they could never own a football top unless it had lfc on it
ReplyDeletei wouldnt compare it to Barcelona exactly. if it was to them none of their youngsters would leave. and none of their high profile players will leave, cause where can you go from Barca?
ReplyDeletewe have a similar youth setup, but like i said i see ourselves more as Ajax at the moment. there are higher profile clubs, which would be steps up.
and we are losing our high profile players to them, recent years, Masch, Alonso ( rafas fault, cause he was the rare loyal type you cant really find anymore in footballing world) , torres, this summer suarez, and propably reina.
yep, its a golden rule, no son shall ever wear rivials kit. Lucky for me though He moved before I was born and therefore didnt end up with Spurs as my team. Yes the 20 year wait for the title again has been hard, however better than my dads 55 year wait lol
ReplyDeleteIt's an interesting theory.
ReplyDeleteI think it's more to do with a budget than anything else. In order to find the talent that we seek within a budget, we need to pay for "damaged goods" and hope they get better.
It stinks, but after Carroll and the KD/Comolli summer, I think FSG really felt snakebitten. They expected to spend and make the Champions League.
Now there seems to be a more careful approach. One that many don't like, but at least some understand.
We couldn't resell Adam for a profit. Can't with Downing. Can't with Carroll.
Can we really blame them for trying to switch up the business model, but still trying to make the club self-sufficient (which they've confirmed it is)
ah yes danny blanchflower
ReplyDeletethey were the days lol
ReplyDeletejumpers for goal posts finny on the wing and charlie charles of the famous charles brothers;-)
ReplyDeleteevery foum needs antagonist. thats why you are tolerated mate. enjoy =)
ReplyDeletei would not call my self an antagonist i would say i am more a straight speaker who says what he thinks iam worse in real life
ReplyDeleteDemagog =P
ReplyDeletei know i am right cannot wait for fsg excuses when it becomes reallity
ReplyDeletehardly FSG fault. they are picking the pieces of our former administration. . we cant escape the fact that stadium needs to be upgraded and expanded
ReplyDeleteDon't encourage him, no he aint right, the improvements will happen soon
ReplyDeletelol you think so ;-)
ReplyDeleteso why not invest in the team now as we will not have as much to invest when they start on the stadium
ReplyDeletewe are investing=) and aiming to be competitive also when we need to invest in the stadium.
ReplyDeletewe will see
ReplyDeletemark my words it will happen
ReplyDeleteand so will every club who as ,as much revnue as us without champions league we will have the 5th best revenue at best so other clubs in our own league will be able to out spend us never mind the rest of europe
ReplyDeleteThat's not true the stadium fund and transfer kitty are two different entities. This is another reason why they are redeveloping Anfield as opposed to starting again from scratch. As we can still bring in revenue on match day whilst redevelopment is going on.
ReplyDeleteIf his agent is Mendes, we haven't got a chance as they all seem to be off to Monaco! Yikes. Falcao, Moutinho, J Rodriguez, Carvalho already lined up for next season and their puppeteer is Mendes. The man is running the game to a certain extent.
ReplyDeleteFSG foot the hefty bill for KD's silly purchases of AC, JH and Downing and BR's comparatively mild purchases of Joe Allen and Borini. You are
ReplyDeleteprobably one of the few who thinks that FSG is trying all means and ways to squeeze money from the club and eventually run away with loads of money in their cart, despite the fact that many of us here constantly raised facts that FSG has been pumping loads of money into the club every season since their took over. Remember, LFC outspend all EPL clubs except the 2 'oil & gas' over the past few seasons.
Also, not forgetting that we offer no Champion's League football so the pull for 'superstar' players is very much lower. So it is only right for us to pay less for these lesser-known players. But that does not mean one cannot find gem in this category of players. I will be more than happy if we can buy another Shinji Kagawa for 350k or Michu for 2 mil pounds. But maybe for you, if LFC never buy a squad full of players that cost 20 mil pounds upwards every season, then FSG is cheapskate and having an ulterior motive of bleeding FSG dry. Just an idea, shall we pay 40 mil pounds for Jordan Rhodes and make him take over AC as the most expensive English player in history? Is this the way to convince you about FSG's ambition?
To throw money, it's easy. To spend astutely and achieve objective is not. KD is absolutely clueless in this aspect of things and BR is somewhat closer to it. Though it could be further improved.
BORINI!!!!!
ReplyDeleteCritical realism maybe? :P
ReplyDeletei think assaidi was a bit of a hot head in netherlands.
ReplyDeleteDont remember if i read it or heard but it was something like he would turn up late every now and then and kick and scream if he didnt get his way.
Overtooken? Wow. What inventiveness. What ingenuity. I take my 'briefs' off for you.
ReplyDeletethere tighter than a ducks arse
ReplyDeleteyour right maybe i should start pretending every thing is fine and all the youngsters we sign are going to be world beaters and in a year or two we will win the league;-)
ReplyDeleteThe moneyball principle is not new to football , arsenal have been doing it for years. The key elements are do not buy over late twenties as the resell value decreases. If you buy older players at Thier top value . They decrease and every 5 years you have to invest another 150 mil. Buying quality prospects under 25 means you can sell at 29 make a profit and continue to step up the amount spent on young players. Therefor we buy at 10 mil a young player now. Sell for 20 reinvest and by next you g group average 15 etc slowely increasing qaulity of team and not having to do what chelski and man city do keep investing 100 of mil every 5 years for new team. Other benifits are lower wages. It's the arsenal model really
ReplyDeleteIt's sad mate, my kids have never seen us win a league & the eldest is 23, when I was growing up it was a bum season if we only won the league
ReplyDeleteProblem is, at least from the point of view you've described above, only one out of Suaréz and FSG want to be at Liverpool. And it is not Suaréz.
ReplyDeleteWe need pacy wingers with a few tricks up their sleeve. i like Atsu and think he would suit our passing style.
ReplyDeleteWhether the move would be good for the player or not is irrelevant.
ReplyDeleteI don't know anything about this kid, but it sounds like he's just another raw, unproven talent. I'd rather we just saved the money and left that role of back-up wide-man to Sterling & Assaidi.
Save the money to go on players that can step in and contribute immediately.
