Top Target: Rafa Benitez to raid Anfield for £34m LFC star. Fair price...?

Former Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez is widely expected to become Napoli's new manager in the coming weeks, yet before he's even signed a contract, several Reds players are already (allegedly) on the Spaniard's wish-list, including Lucas Leiva, Daniel Agger, and now, Luis Suarez.

Today, multiple sources in Italy - including TMW and Tuttosport - claim:

* Benitez's top target to replace Edinson Cavani - should he leave - is Luis Suarez.

* Napoli owner Aurelio De Laurentis wants to keep Cavani, but he's aware that the existence of a buy-out clause in the Uruguayan's contract means it's out of his hands.

* Napoli are willing to pay €40m (£34m) for Suarez.

In terms of demeanour, character, discipline etc, Suarez isn't really the type of player Benitez usually goes for, so I doubt there's much truth to this particular claim.

One thing's for sure, the Spaniard would not stand for Suarez's negative behaviour, and unlike Brendan Rodgers, he wouldn't kowtow to the Uruguayan; negligently enable his behaviour, and/or and endlessly lavish sycophantic praise.

In that respect, working under a manager like Benitez would probably be a good thing for Suarez.

Bayern Munich and Juventus are also set to table bids for the Uruguayan this summer, so if this rumour is true, then Napoli will have some stiff competition.

At first glance, the likes of Bayern and Juve may seem like more attractive propositions, but Napoli are on the rise, and are currently an attractive proposition:

* 2nd in Serie A this season.
* Champions League football next season.
* Top European manager at the helm.
* Suarez would be the main-main at Napoli. At Juve/Bayern, he'd just be another star player.
* Arguably less spotlight/pressure on Suarez at Napoli.

This is all moot though because, according to some denial-afflicted Liverpool fans, Suarez is not going anywhere.

I just hope wont repeat again alonso mistake (IMO) cant find a suitable replacement.

  2. So according to the press this week, Suarez is off to madrid, Napoli, Man City and bayern. Those press people know their stuff!!

  3. 34m? They are having a laugh, right. That may be where their negotiation starts. We've paid 35m for a inferior player. We should not sell Suaréz for anything less than 50m.

As for Bayern, I have serious doubt that they will make an offer for Suaréz. They have already spent 38m Euros on Götze, may well go for Lewandowski, too, but, according to someone who knows more about them then me doesn't see them make another very expensive signing for next season. And they don't need to.

  4. (Denial-afflicted Liverpool fans) What a disgusting comment coming from a supposed Liverpool supporter many of us have doubts about that. We all know you have a problem with Luis Suarez for whatever reason, and I have my suspicions as to what they are. But to sell him just to appease the sensibilities of Jaimie Kanwar is beyond a joke.

  5. one things for certain suarez is not going nowhere for 34 milion unless the powers that be at anfield have completely lost their marbles ,imo 50 million minimum and i would still only sell if suarez wants to go ,we have to keep our best players or we will end up a mid table side for years to come, carragher as gone pepe is rumoured to be going suarez skrtal, every experienced pro we have could go but we still have the lads with potential were turning into a joke club all be it not very funny

  6. bill i think you will find its not only jaimies sensibilities we have to appease ,they are other fans with the same agenda but if you try and question there motives on here your posts are usually deleted,

  7. bill i agree with a lot of what you say unfortunatly if i try to reply in to much detail my comment gets deleted ,it must be the word filter, bit strange that word filter it seems to work fine when you agree with the topic but have awful problems with it when you don,t;-)

  8. Denial afflicted Liverpool Fans...Ad Hominem JK. Ad Hominem. You always carry on about your comments policy...Respect fellow posters. Banter is fine, but insults, belittlement and harassment are not tolerated... indirect belittlement

I would say you are guilty of the above. Just because fans see things, rightly or wrongly, differently to you doesn't make them denial afflicted.

  9. we sold out of form torrress for 50m no way we sell a striker who banged in 30 goals for a penny less than that !

  10. JK; with your constant sarcasm towards the "deluded" and "denial afflicted" lfc supporters, and in every article you write, Suarez, you are actually the one disrespecting the club. In the past month, Suarez hasn't done anything, but in my oppinion, you have. I know this crap sells, but as supporter, you should maybe tone it down a bit. Reading your article, its often hard to see you even like the club...

  11. To pick up on a couple of comments ...

Price paid for Carroll has(and will never have) any bearing on any deal involving Suarez to anybody outside of the Liverpool FC.

If there's anybody out there who struggles to see issues/problems with LS then I'd suggest they also need help to cross the road - Fantastic player and people have every right to forgive and support him but equally well people can also say enough is enough and support a sale.

My opinion (for what it's worth) is that 34 million won't get close to making a deal happen. If something in the 50 range is offered it should be seriously considered. Season run-in proved that the side can do more than adequately without him. Would the squad be weaker without him and with the addition of another 2 Daniel Sturridge's & another 3 Phillipe Coutinho's ?

finally some1 see big picture. Football biz is cruel (that the fact). Today we can lose LS who know tomolo will bring in few more of new LS in cheap in better discipline.
Speaking of FACT: i only know LS does did bang in lot of goal for us but meanwhile he oso did lot of prob to our REPO. For me LIVERPOOL repo come 1st.

  13. why would anyone believe this crap .Lucas played like crap under Rafa thats the first one . Second one Dan Agger has said half dozen times not going anywhere. Third is more possible then people think is we dont make Great signing or dont finish in top 4 next year 100% we will lose Suarez like torres . I think in the last 5 years this is the most important time in our Future for signings . We need signing in few diffrent positions the Quality of Sturridge and Couthino

    ReplyDelete
  14. sorry jamie, but your wish is not going to realise. suarez stays and liverpool finish in top 4.

    ReplyDelete
  15. If you're Suarez you would choose to go to a club winning of titles before a club with potential like Napoli (which is a beautiful club by the way) so I would think Juve and Bayern would be front runners in that transfer tussle. 40 million is a total joke. Considering Neymar, who is nothing more than the next best thing for now has just been bought for 28 million (a sum even we could have mustered) a proven world class football player, one of the top five players in the world today, should see the bidding start at 50 million pounds. 59 million euros. Goetze just cost 38 millions for crying out loud and he's no Luis Suarez.

    ReplyDelete
  16. As for Lucas and Agger. I can't see BR selling Agger and then being forced to stick with Skrtel and Coates. If anything, I'd try to sell them Coates if I were BR. And since he loves Lucas so much they can have both for 30 million quid. Considering the pricetag they have slapped on Cavani they know all about ridiculous asking prices.

  17. Finish top four and he'll rightfully claim HIS top scorers award that he was shafted out of this year.

But as Jamie said the other day they are usually right so I'm thinking they just share him throughout the season, Napoli for 1st quarter, city upto Xmas, Napoli just after Xmas whilst finishing the season at bayern, oh and real mad rods end of season tour! If bale is worth 65 then Suarez is worth 70, so to answer the question no 35 mill is not a fair price, we sold a striker with half his ability for 50!!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Ah yes, because it's impossible for multiple clubs to be interested in a player at any one time.

    ReplyDelete
  20. So all of the press fella's, who have so many close sources to the club/player's, must just be sharing the news around then? Or maybe just clutching at those magical straws! I'm sure everyone of us could predict 10 transfers this summer and get probably 7/10 correct.

    ReplyDelete
  21. 50 mill and hes yours. He has dragged the clubs name into the gutter and due to his remarkable talent he has been pandered to...yet..he may have scored 30 goals in all competitions this season, torres scored more in his first season with us and he was a model professional, a role model for the kids that inevitably looked up to him and an incredibly skillful player. As Rodgers said quite rightly, as soon as you get rid of one hero, another arrives. I will miss his talent if he goes but his qualities as a human being on the pitch make him so hard to love. If he stays, that psychologist has his work cut out for him.

    ReplyDelete
  22. kanwar, why dont you go and live in scumland.i am sick of you bad mouthing luis suarez.i wonder where we would have been without him last season!! ive supported lfc since i was 12, iam now 70,and suarez is the most complete player i have seen, including dalglish ,liddell etc. i hope we have got him for many more seasons to come!

    ReplyDelete
  23. suarez must stay for another season, if not liverpool fc will have problem with new player coz they are not ready in liverpool style of play RODGER need to be serious about this. it will be beautiful if suarez is in liverpool team for next SEASON.

    Another light news day

    ReplyDelete
  25. Suarez causes even more head-ache to opposition teams than he does to LFC.

Just as Ajax did, we'd have to take less than he's worth in the transfer market because of his head-case antics, but even with that taken into consideration I'd still expect him to command a transfer fee of £40m at a minimum.

    ReplyDelete
  26. liverpool4life56511:27 am, May 27, 2013

34 million? They can jog onto another club.£ 60M <inflate that now okay £100 million;-)or nothing.

  28. I can see Suarez leaving as much as I don't want him to but only for silly money eg. 40 million and over.

Monaco just paid 60 for the porto pair and 51 for Falcao (if it goes though but how on earth they get past FFP is beyond me) I would take any offer over 40-45 and use it much better than we did the Torres money. I can't see Napoli being his choice though, with him being chased by Bayern, Man City, Juve and reportedly Real Madrid.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I can't see SUAREZ leaving LFC for Naples. The CAMORRA run that city. They would expect LS to pay a special tax out of his massive footballers wage!

  30. why don't fsg sign rafa ! why are fans bangin on about kennys last 5 months and brendans last 5 mths the season lasts 8/9 mths not 5ths and futher more what about brendans 1st 5mths and kennys 1st 5ths kenny won 75% ! but over the season brendan got 9 pts more and oldham and swansea knocked us out of the cups but kenny had beat man city, stoke and chelsea away man utd at home and everton in the semi has well has lifting a cup is that worth 9 pts and 1 place

Strange how this, according to some, liability, is being allegedly courted by the European champions, Real, the next Man City manager, the Italian champions etc etc. Yet according to those same people, the association of a club with this striker seriously affects their standing in the game and overall reputation

An yes because it's impossible to believe that it could all be paper talk and that non of the clubs mentioned above are interested at all! I don't believe half the stories that are written to be honest! When the club comes out and says we are not selling luis Suarez this summer then I take it, after all I can't think of a time when they have said that and gone against their word?? IMO journalist speculate to accumulate

  34. jackiethemagic1:52 pm, May 27, 2013

Next season; could be over already if we dont have a player of Suarez' calibre. Because even though Coutinho has been a revelation; and I expect him to continue to be so, I cant see him filling his boots. I mean, we dont have the cash to compete with the top 4 of the premier league; but we do have a couple of players that can, most important of which is Suarez.

Not a single player we've been linked with in the last 2 weeks has excited me. Whilst, our best players are continuously linked with moves away. I read a list of something like 20 LFC players that could have a move away and I could actually see most of them going; which is so depressing. I honestly believe that this window is absolutely crucial and probably the most important window for some time - given the unstability and uncertainity of the surrounding clubs. Isnt Rodgers the 5th longest serving manager in the league now? that is insane.

Selling Suarez might actually prove to be a master stroke if the right players are bought with his transfer fee. Especially if the above clubs Are interested in him and we get a super bidding war going on. But I have no idea who we should go for with the money if that was the case.

    ReplyDelete
  35. All this on speculation of speculation yet still willing to talk as if it is fact, denial inflicted? Only person in denial is the journalist upon his facts.

    ReplyDelete
  36. He is staying for another season, Suarez, me thinks. If we don't qualify for CL, he is gone next summer, imo, unless he is given a significant pay rise. It won't be as easy as some think to get £50m+. I don't see any of the 'traditional' big clubs putting that much down for him even if they can afford it, only one of the new boys would do it me thinks. Around the £40-45m is what I'd think he'd go for. Not too fond of Agger and Lucas these days but out of the two, I still retain some hope that Agger can find his rhythm in this system.

  37. Suarez to Napoli no way and no chance.
May be at €80 million possible.

  38. Bernard Haworth3:59 pm, May 27, 2013

Well we couldn't get Bale as he is quoted as being £65M according to Spain. Selling Suarez isn't inconceivable as FSG are a selling club. They said as much when they bought.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Deluded as always Kanwar, you would let Suarez go to Everton so you can point finger and go: "cheat cheat" while he bangs them in.
Napoli? Get a grip! He is one of top 7 players in the world ATM!

  42. I understand everyone has the right to there own oppinion but u always seem negative about LFC. Never nice positive stories always about bad things. Last year you were all over Kenny and Suarez and Carroll and Everyone really. I just have a question are you a Liverpool Fan at Heart. Or just choose the most succesfull English club of all time to wright about. Again this is not an attack. I just am so confused. And when i watch Suarez play i understand why he loses his temper he plays on such an edge cauae he wants to win for the fans and the Club. For me Suarez needs to change his attitude but i never wanna see him leave the club. This is just my oppinion so hope i dont get banned thanks.

Also, I think if he went to Juve or Bayern, he'd still be the main star (moreso with Juve, admittedly).
The Neopolitan fans would love Suarez. They're fucking mental.

  50. Hi Jamie at last a place where you can say what you think without fear of being booted off the site...
Hope we keep Ls but everyone has a right price and in my honest opinion we are more than 1 or 2 players short of challenging for the top. 45 milll+ spent wisely could make a big difference.

  51. Your jokin right Jamie is a joke check out twitter search his name he is a liar who says bad things about the club to get views. He is a disgrace. Im plannin on getin support through twivtter to make sure his site gets taken off news now. He banneds everyone. Jamie one again you Loser Youll Always Walk Alone. Get a Life 34 m for Suarez lol the only reason anyone clicked here is to see what bullshit you came up with. I know youll cread this and thats all that matters. Im gonna make sure you have to deal with thousands of people every day. Its gonna be a personal quest for true Liverpool fans everywhere. How on earth people like your stories make me sick.

  57. Bernard Haworth8:13 am, May 28, 2013

Pricing is all rather quicksilver-ish. A price today is not the same as a price of last week ( or tomorrow ). Take the case of Reina. It is not very long since £20M was on the table for him. A few weeks ago it was £12 - 15 M. This morning we read £8M. I expect we will be giving him away with greenshield stamps as a bonus before the week-end. Who knows what any one player is worth to any one club?

    ReplyDelete
  58. I'm a fan of Napoli, not really sure why. But I hope Benitez does a good job there.
Every player has a price, but I think Suarez's is more than £34 million. If Torres cost £50 million a few years back, and people are talking about Bale being about £50-£60 million, then I think Suarez could cost the same amount, and if an offer like that came in, I think he would be sold.

Well fair point but get over yourself about being butt hurt about Suarez....Ive had enough of him acting the bollocks and destroying this clubs reputation,It was HIS fault and no ones elses....or perhaps the FA took control of his body and made him bite someone, hmm come to think of it it seems likely the truth because theres no way it was Suarez who done it.....

    ReplyDelete
  63. Niall O'Reilly3:02 pm, May 28, 2013

I dont hate Suarez....What I do hate are people who try to defend him at every turn...HE was at fault,HE shafted himself out of it.End of

    ReplyDelete
  64. That wasn't aimed at you personally :-) I agree that Suarez was wrong to respond the way he did. I do not agree with the length of the ban but that's the risk you take when you do something stupid. That said, I don't accept when one of our players is branded a cheat and worse than that by what are supposed to be supporters of this club. It is one thing to condemn a players actions right after they take place and then there is going on and on about it like a petulant child just because people don't agree with the fact that you show disrespect to one of our loyal servants. I've said it before on here, Liverpool is like a family and within a family you correct its members when they do something wrong but you love them just the same because you are loyal to them. From some of the comments on here, as well as some of the articles, there is not much loyalty to be seen. No loyalty = not part of the family. You're not a Liverpool supporter just because you say you are. You are one because you prove you are.

    ReplyDelete
  65. I'd sell Suarez today for £40 million, and tomorrow I'd put in a tasty £20 million bid for Lukaku with a willingness to go as high as £25 million

    ReplyDelete
  66. Niall O'Reilly7:25 pm, May 28, 2013

Good reply...Im not gonna call him a cheat because it'd be stupid, because by that logic you could literally call 95% percent of footballers cheaters which is idiotic....As you said its a family and Suarez disrespected our 'family' so its his job to make it up to the family not the other way round and continue holding his hand,He needs to sort himself out,and only he can do that

    ReplyDelete
  67. glad you like them i would have replied earlier but have been serving a two day suspention handed out by jk and the fa ,i did not even have the right of appeal ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  68. The way I see it, he's apologised to the club, to the player he bit and that's good enough for me. Will he never do it again? Well maybe not this but probably something else. It's part of who he is. He's fought his way from the streets of Montevideo, absolute poverty, to the biggest stadiums in the world. He doesn't stop until he wins. That's who he is and that's what makes him one of the best five players in the world. Hopefully it'll be things like that push on Ramires and not stuff that gets him suspended.
