In February 2012, the Agent of Mauricio Isla confirmed that the Juventus midfielder was 'being tracked by Liverpool', and with the summer transfer window rapidly approaching, it seems like the Reds have reignited their interest in the Chilean international.
According to reports in Italy, Liverpool and Arsenal are monitoring Isla, who earlier this week suggested that he could be open to a transfer. He told reporters:
"I do not know if I will stay in Turin - it is an issue which is my agent is dealing with."
Last week, Isla's agent - Claudio Vagheggi - issued the following veiled threat to Juventus:
“We are not satisfied with how Juventus have dealt with him [Isla] this season. We've already let the Turin club know our opinions.
"His priority for next season is to be a protagonist, because it's a World Cup year, a very important objective for him.
"There are offers from some of the biggest Italian clubs, but we're not lacking bids from abroad either.”
Liverpool's interest in Isla is long-standing, and last year his Agent - Leo Rodriguez - told BK Sport:
"He [Isla] is being tracked by Liverpool and other Italian clubs like Juventus and Roma. I'm not sure that these clubs have already initiated contact"
£15m-rated Isla suffered a cruciate ligament injury in 2012, and made only sixteen appearances during Juve's title-winning 2012-13 season.
The Chilean is highly versatile, and can play left or right back, central midfield, and on the wing, and that versatility is sure to be attractive to Reds boss Brendan Rodgers.

instead of getting one person who provides a partial solution to many areas for 15m why not spend 5m separately on three different areas and get squad depth
ReplyDeleteEverything is always according to reports in ??????. The manager will make his signings in good time, regardless of what the press say : )
ReplyDeleteooops, forgot all posts should tow the party line, even when it means disregarding the truth/common sense....... STEVIE HAD THE OPERATION BUT OF COURSE YOU WONT BACKTRACK AND SAY I GOT IT WRONG!!
ReplyDeleteGROW UP!!
ReplyDeleteCan't see Liverpool signing this footballer as i don't think he fits the profile of the type of young player we're looking for at the right price.
ReplyDeleteanother none starter,we need experienced talent not other clubs rejects
ReplyDeletelol like who? The 'experienced talent' you refer to usually want CL football so who do you have in mind? Enlighten me ;)
ReplyDeletevargas etc
ReplyDeleteI really rated him before he went to Juve, but it hasn't worked out for him. I don't really see where he'd fit in for us- his best position is right wing-back.
ReplyDeleteIf we were going to go for a Juve player (forgetting the fact most of them wouldn't move to us) I'd like Vidal. Excellent player. Would fit in wonderfully in our side.
ive said countless times before
ReplyDeleteit's just a discussion piece, more paper nonsense.... hits!!
ReplyDeletehere here
ReplyDeletewhere where
ReplyDeleteClub rejects like Sturridge and Couthino for example??
ReplyDeleteso messi
ReplyDeleteDespite his MAN U links, If we could buy any JUVE player PAUL POGBA would be my choice!
ReplyDeleteWouldnt spend 15m on Isla, good player but i dont know if we'd need his particular skill set.
ReplyDeleteBut does anyone see us actually making a play for Eriksen?
I've read reports that Ajax want 20m then it was 15m, for a player with one year on his contract i'd hope it was closer to 15 but you never know these days *cough cough Nasri cough*.
Maybe Liverpool could try some cash plus Assaidi for him? Ajax were trying to sign him when we got him for 4m so i'd assume we could try haggle and get 3 for him in a trade.
Only midfield player that I 'll take from Seria A is Paul Pogba. Absolutely tailor made for EPL. He is a mixture of Viera & Yaya, with brilliant ball skills, shooting (both feet) & heading ability, physical presence & most importantly, wide range of passing vision despite being a power dynamo. He is an ultimate Box to Box MF in making & the potential he has shown so far at 20, I believe he can end up better than either of Patric or Yaya or even qualities of both combined.
ReplyDeleteEven 20mn for Pogba alone is a far better investment than Ericksson or Isla.
two f"cking players big deal, what about the countless other shite we have signed for the same kind of money allen borrini the list is endless most of the time in life you get hat you pay for
ReplyDeleteagree, Pogba would be a very good signing but its very unlikely Juve would sell him to anyone, but we can dream
ReplyDeleteInstead of buying one expensive "versatile" player to fill multiple positions, or spending the same money on several low caliber players to provide squad depth, why not spend the big money on quality players to play in a particular position of need and allowing the reserves to provide squad depth??
ReplyDeleteThis talk of CL is such a massive myth. The transfers to CL clubs are a means to an end, not an end in and of itself.
ReplyDeleteWhat CL football are Monaco offering right now to the brightest talents around Europe, and what were City offering when they started building their team up??
(those are obviously extreme examples just to make a point, but there are countless examples of CL talent moving to non CL teams)
DI NATALE PLZ
ReplyDeleteversatlity and quality are two different things gerrard can play all over the park but we all know he is best at the middle why we can simply put him on the wings due to his "versatility" but we dont hence the need to get depth and if that guy gets injured then what ? all the more reason to spend separately ........
ReplyDeleteIf you got what you paid for, Downing would be as good as Mata, Carroll as good as Aguero and Allen as good as Cazorla.
ReplyDeleteAllen who did exactly what was asked and expected of him up until injury? Or Borini who hasn't had a chance to get going due to Injury. I have to ask ,,, do you actually watch football Jason? Some players don't just get going right away deal with it.
ReplyDeleteMario Gomez wouldn't, he is too lazy for Rodgers.
ReplyDeleteTry again, chief.
Only reason hes not on our books right now is that waste of money Carroll not accepting the west ham bid, the sooner he fucks off we will have Erikson,
ReplyDeleteNot sure Allen 'did exactly what was asked'. He started great, but he was a liability by the time his season ended.
ReplyDeleteI think Allen is a good player, but he just doesn't fit in. I actually think he is Rodgers' poorest signing, since he clearly has talent, but just doesn't fit into the side. You didn't need to see him play to know he doesn't really fit into the team.
So you do agree that CL isn't the only factor, as everybody is making it out to be then?
ReplyDeleteWe've got more money than most European clubs. We've just been wasting a whole load of it for years.
We didn't pay ridiculous money to take Suarez from Ajax, nor did Tottenham have to pay silly money to take Vertonghen from a CL club, without CL football on offer. Cabaye left a CL club for a newly promoted Newcastle, while the Ramirez that our fans were raving about all last year instead chose to go to newly promoted Southampton etc
ReplyDeleteMost European clubs aside from the elite (plus many of them too!) are in desperate need of additional funds. And there are plenty of clubs outside of the elite European clubs that have talented players that would love to play for LFC, and would be available for a decent fee
Ajax is sorta an exception to the rule because of the league they're in,Ramirez went to Southampton for the money lol that well known, and Cabaye is a very good player but hes not top teams of Europe Quality.
ReplyDeleteSpot on Mr HAZE, when such a talent walks out on MAN U it's never a bad thing.
ReplyDeleteLUCAS hasn't been the same player since his injury, we need a midfield destroyer who dominates.Who will turn up,DIAME or the lad at CELTIC seem to be the names most mentioned. My money would be on a player we've never heard of!
So newly promoted Southampton had money and we didn't?
ReplyDeleteAjax are not really an exception - most Spanish clubs are broke and vulnerable to having their players picked off, as are the Italians, and most French clubs obviously don't have the financial clout to keep their best players away from even mid-tier Premier League clubs.
Regardless of your opinion of his quality, Cabaye was a CL player. He was at the French champions, along with Hazard and Gervinho, before leaving to join the newly promoted Newcastle...
The fact that we paid £15m for another non-goalscoring, non-creative, non-dominant central midfielder, while the position was one of the few that we already had a surplus of players, makes Allen a really bad signing for me too.
ReplyDeletePaying £5m to loan another player of the same ilk for 6 months was even more ridiculous though,,
would like to point out he really isnt quality in all positions and let me rephrase ....i want to spend separately on those postions with quality cheap replacemeancets like digne who wouldnt cost us half our kitty..........
ReplyDeleteI never said anything about this particular guys quality in any position as I've never paid any attention to him before...
ReplyDeleteMy point is that rather than spending the kitty on a number of 'decent', cheap & versatile players, I'd much rather see us focus on bringing in a couple of quality players, and letting the reserves fill in to provide squad depth.
Buying lots of 'cheap' players over the years has left us with significant transfer and wage bills, while we continue to remain dependent on a couple of actual, legitimate game-changing players. Those are what we need to focus on bringing in, as those are who win titles, not the squad players.
The point is that if Southampton & Newcastle had the money to lure (supposed) CL caliber target as soon as they got promoted, then we clearly have the funds available too. And not having CL football to offer is just an excuse to dampen expectations.
ReplyDeleteIts all gone quiet on the Erikson and Carroll situations and that's good because it usually means that LFC have said STFU and taken it behind closed doors!! FSG need to give us the war chest now if Carroll is dragging his heals before we lose the player ive seen linked with us year after year, AC just needs to just go now, He came, cost us too much money, proved he was overrated, and is now being a hassle to shift on too. I feel pissed that I defended the tool for so long
ReplyDeleteBut if we get Erikson now that will be him and Gerrard then Lucas or Allen, both offer up different solutions to different teams one being the mauling tackling and one just passing the ball around simply to piss of an opposition and wear them out. He has the right mentality, very good professional just a bit of a shock to have the changes he has had in the last year or so, plus injury's and his first kid. He's no Gerrard but that's not what he was brought for although i do recall a game where we were making him play higher and the whole team was trying to get him a goal and he looked a bit more promising
ReplyDeletequality players wont want to be the second up hence cheap players and i just want to beef up the depth imo we have a good squad .......just need adequate back ups and a new cb to replace carra
ReplyDeleteI think Isla would be a useful signing. He is better than the dross that is Allen and Shelvey.
ReplyDeleteGetting Erikssen would bring in a talented player, but someone who duplicates the attributes brought to the team by Coutinho in that AM role behind the striker, thereby not really improving the team as much as someone that fills an actual need. Coutinho, with Suso (& Pacheco?) waiting for the opportunity to step up is enough for the AM role for me.
ReplyDeleteWe have Gerrard, Henderson, Allen & Shelvey all ideally wanting the second central midfield role next to a ball-winner that Erikksen could also fill.
Meanwhile, we'd still have Lucas alone as someone naturally suited to the DM role, and just Suarez, Sturridge, Downing & Borini for the front 3 roles, meaning that we'd be reliant on out of position players and/or 18 y/o's taking on the responsibility of match-winners should any (likely) failures occur upfront.
Erikksen is a quality player, but another AM just shouldn't be a priority for us this summer.
I guess that's where our opinions differ then - I think there are a number of positions in our starting lineup that can be improved considerably immediately.
ReplyDeleteA number of our current starting players should just be squad players if we really are aiming to make a significant move up the table next season
with the finacial restraints placed on rodgers we cant really buy players to replace them so gotta bear with them for now :(
ReplyDeletenot really - selling the likes of Reina, Coates, Skrtel, Spearing, Downing, Carroll etc would comfortably raise +£50m in transfer fees.
ReplyDeleteI'm not a scout but can easily pick out players like Julio Cesar, Ogbonna, Capoue & Sow that would replace them, would be interested in joining LFC and would significantly improve the quality of our team without requiring much additional outgoing ££.
i dont really rate julio much he looks very slow at times id rather spend big and have ter stegen for a long time and as for the rest yeah they are good :)
