'It is painful' - Suarez reveals ban agony...and some great news for LFC fans

Luis Suarez will sit out the second match of his 10-game ban when Liverpool take on Everton later today, and the Uruguayan admits that he's sick at the prospect of missing the Merseyside Derby.

Speaking to Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf, Suarez - who, according to Brendan Rodgers, is in the process of undergoing 'rehabilitation' - said:

“It is painful to miss it [the Merseyside derby].

"From the day I arrived, I saw how special this derby is, but we have a big squad which can function without me.”

Suarez is right - the team can function without him, and it's counter-productive - and insulting to the other players - to portray him as some kind of messiah who carries the team on his back.

The team proved last week that it can survive without Suarez. Granted, Newcastle are a poor team at the moment, but all the signs are there that the Uruguayan's absence won't have a major effect on the club.

Suarez also reiterated that he wants to stay at Anfield next season:

"I have a deal with Liverpool and this is my present - and future"

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard is also convinced Suarez will stay this summer. He told ESPN on Friday:

"I don't think that what's happened to Luis will affect him much in terms of his future. Luis has been really happy here at Liverpool and he seems settled here. I don't see him wanting to leave right now"

Suarez is on record several times over the last few months committing his future to Liverpool, so if he does a U-turn in the summer, it's not going to reflect well on him.

  1. hopefully we can win today and end the season on a high hope suarez stays next season and with the right signings we could get a lot closer to top four next season i would like to see rhodes, shawcross and eriksen as our summer signings all acheivable

  4. The team movement without Suarez looks very functional. With Suarez in the team, the players are constantly looking for him to pass to. last week we saw ball movement to different players and this caused problems for Newcastle defenders as they could not mark any one player moving forward. Suarez being banned could be a blessing in disguise.

  5. Not sure about shawcross - he looks a bit wooden at times with ball at his feet although good no-nonsense defender...not sure if he is that much better than the potential we have in house though to make him no1 carra replacement ...like Jordan Rhodes pleased he's stepped up and still scoring with regularity - and of course eriksen - yes please

Lets smash the toffees today - dreaming for a hat trick for ya borini lad!

  6. Lol! are you dizzy blood?! Topped your cornflakes with bath salts this morning??! The boys not leaving this summer ??!! If Suarez announces hes leaveing LFC in 2013 I will book myself in for a gender realignment consultation the same day - that's what you call putting your balls on the line

    ReplyDelete
  7. i cannot believe no prem side took a chance on rhodes hes got to be worth a shot eriksen no brainer, shawcross imo would sort our defence out ,borini hat trick that must have been some dream lol;-) on the game todat i would settle for a 1nil win hope its a good game but there few and far between in the derbys but hopefully today will be the day as long as we win

  8. I've got to say I thought of the same counter-productive impact Suarez might have had due to his tendency to not stick to tactics and just run into holes. As we saw against Newcastle, the tactics actually worked.

  9. MARTIN SKRTEL has a couple of nightmare games this season and everyone wants to throw him on the scrap heap.Last season he was by far our best player.
ENRIQUE and DOWNING have come through difficult periods this season, why can't SKRTEL do something similar. If CARRA can operate in BR system where defenders are expected play from the back, surely SKRTEL can adapt!

    ReplyDelete
  10. Not sure I would put my jewels on the line in this twisted crazy world of professional football! :-)
But I also believe Suarez will be here next season. Only our continued absence from CL will persuade him to go, which is why I think we'll get at least next season from him.
Failure to make that target next season will see us struggle to retain more than just one of our better players me thinks.......!

  11. agree m8 imo hes been made a bit of a scapegoat

    ReplyDelete
  12. Agree in theory yes hopefully he will come through his difficult spell andreforge the partnership with agger - but would say that when it comes to tactical awareness and reading danger skrtel just does not compare to Carra - just wished he had chosen to come straight into the back room rather than the 'front room' (JK thats a reference to sky not sexual)

    ReplyDelete
  13. By saying "expected to play from the back" I was obviously talking from a technical point of view.Your missing my point if you think i'm going to argue about CARRA's tactical knowledge but was it missed last season?
The combination of AGGER and SKRTEL was solid. What one lacked the other would make up for.
A couple of mistakes from MARTIN SKRTEL this season and BR turns to a player that will retire at the end of the season and he doesn't even try to build SKRTEL's confidence back by giving him a few games like he's done with others.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Totally agree that there has been absolutely no attempts at rebuilding Skrtel's confidence; which imo points to the fact he has unfortunately come to an end at our club.
I can only hope that whoever comes in as his replacement is an equal or preferably an improvement.
    De Vrij or Lovren perhaps?

    ReplyDelete
  15. imo skertal should definatly start the next game if we do not win today against qpr is another matter all together no one will begrudge carra is moment of glory in his last game

    ReplyDelete
  16. would like Diame too

    ReplyDelete
  17. you cant use the Newcastle game as a yard stick for tactics....other players always step up .you can use the same argument about results and style with gerrard and most other regular first teamers...another way to look at is also is the front three players know they have to perform as there is a bone fide world class player waiting in the wings so they have to shape up and impress......thats why id sooner sign the right one or two world class players than a lot of dross

    ReplyDelete
  18. Your missing MY point lol! It's easy to sit at home and say "he's in bad form lets stick with him and see if he can rebuild confidence/form" if your not the manager under pressure for results! Or a squad player training well and out of the team! If a player s out of form (which skrtel has been - he was player of the season so in my eyes not a bad player in a few games just lacking confidence) and you have a proven quality experienced cb in JC of course BR will replace him - so it's hardly Bucks fault. competition for places means if you have a couple of mares you have to fight to get back in the team - it worked with downing and as i say I hope it works with skrtel. Will save us a gamble in the summer - better the devil you know and all that!

    ReplyDelete
  19. the system we play though may means we are often start with a light weight yet skilful team........i sometimes think of the phrase to many chiefs not enough indians when watching liverpools defensive formation ....i think we need a guy at the back who can put his head in and do the donkey work...as good a player agger is he cant defend high balls for toffee

    ReplyDelete
  20. Nooooo don't do what TH & GG did to Rafa and write the boy off prematurely!! But I suppose at 28 the board could be looking to maximise the return on investment...

    ReplyDelete
  21. i would also ....hed give us a lot of midfield options and strengthen the spine of the team

    ReplyDelete
  22. me two and benteker but iam trying to be realistic

  23. I'm pretty sure man united have first refusal on shawcross

  24. Good news? That is catastrophic news Jaimie.

  25. Lol yep some dream vaguely recall post match celebrations with Lucy Pinder and a whole lotta baby oil! Itching for the game - want to play them off the park and praying for a big win and clean sheet - coutinho to maintain current form and carra to score bicycle kick ala Trevor Sinclair for west ham from the edge of the box

    ReplyDelete
  26. Yes please!!! The boys a Beast yet shows composure kinda like Bruce Banner

    ReplyDelete
  27. the problem though lies with a lot of rogers tactics ....the back two are often left woefully exposed....we can safely say skirtel and rogers have issues with each other i also think reina has issues with rogers ...

    ReplyDelete
  28. Trust me mate, I would definitely prefer to keep him here as I too believe he is still a good player. We need to be keeping our best players and adding TO them. He has absolutely no confidence at the minute and I'm not sure how he can regain it if he's not getting a look in.
Still, as we know, with Carra gone at the end of this campaign, BR might just keep hold of him, then it's surely down to the player himself to regain his place.....

    ReplyDelete
  29. ..and Suarez just has issues full stop lol! I think it's normal that not all players will click with the manager, and go through ups and downs - but stay commited to the cause and professional and believe the beast will be back - yeah agree Rodgers is still learning too but I love the initial blueprint - when it works its brilliant - hoping individual mistakes at both ends should be less frequent next year whether through coaching or better players

    ReplyDelete
  30. Didn't we also win six out of the eight games he was banned for last season? So, yes, our team can very much function, and win, without Suaréz. His footballing skills are a joy to watch, though.

    ReplyDelete
  31. It was not a yard stick reference. I was merely stating how the dynamics of the whole team changed without our key striker Suarez.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I hope all the help he gets, (including from his wife apparently) works as well as again, apparently, he has now said his present, and future, is with the club.......
Not being a religious man, I now find myself being a little hypocritical and praying for him!!!!! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  33. Suarez, Gerrard, Lucas all commit to the cause. Rodgers must really be a bad manager as you'd understand whenever you visit and read this anti-LFC blog.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Agreed.....If Magaluf doesn't work then there surely is no hope left!!!!!! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  35. God I hope but the bite so soon after the punch makes me now truly believe the only chance to get through to him is his wife - which is why I started a petition to her entitled "if hes banned on the pitch - ban him in the bedroom" forget the pocket that's how you hit a man where it hurts. Crack on a chastity belt girl and ban el biteo from the Internet for 3 months.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I think with carrol in the team we would be good defencively against physical teams and also good in attack if we are forced to use our wings. He does not need to be played as center forward but as an attacking mid. I still believe in the big guy. Hope he gets a chance.

    ReplyDelete
  37. i read it it was good some dream;-)

    ReplyDelete
  38. Yes it's easy for me to make observations and difficult for BR to implement certain things due to pressure.Well done for stating the obvious!
When exactly did I say he's in bad form stick with him.He had a few below par games, he was rightfully taken out for CARRA.But you can't put him in a freezer and let him out next season.
Lacking match time combined with being out of form in his last stint in the side leads to tension. The player believes he's better than the limited or in this case no time he's getting without a chance to turn it around.Even if BR wants him sold how much are we going to get for a player that hasn't played for months.Whatever way you look at it, it's been handled poorly.

  39. LFC can become the bullies of the premier league with a mixture of technically gifted players but also fast, tall and powerful.

Josip Ilicic AM- 25yrs 6 ft'3 - £7M - reminds me alot of van persie and michu with a way hes mastered the 'finesse' shot, also his magnificent left foot. this player is also very skillful and has pin point long shooting accuracy whether it be from set piece or play. great addition to our squad replacement for stevie gerrard in few years.

Christian Benteke ST- 22 yrs 6 ft'3 - £15M - dont need to say much about him. 3 years time only god knows how good this will be because hes literally unplayable now. very good with the ball at his feet, expert finisher. he seem's a player who plays better with better players around him, expect 30 goals a season in a liverpool shirt

Mohamed Diame DM- 25 yrs 6 ft'1 - £3.5M - yaya toure in the making. at £3.5M its a no brainer

Stefan De Vrij CB- 21 yrs 6 ft'3 - £7M - captain of his club, dutch international, great ball control and good passing range. also his no nonsense defending has bought him to barca's attention. leader.

Toby Alderwerield CB- 23 yrs 6 ft'1 - £9M - known for his long passes, physical strength and excellent reading of the game, hes a beast at the back for ajax, also there captain. better than vertoghen

those are 5 beasts who would make us completely bully teams out of games. add abit of flair to that, thomas ince £6M, eriksen £14M, honda on a free.

    we could look like this
    johnson----alderwerield---agger---enrique
    ---------------------------diame---------------
    ---------------gerrard---------eriksen---------
    sturridge----------------------------------coutinho
    ---------------------benteke-----------------------
subs:de vrij, wisdom, ilicic, lucas, ince, honda, suarez

    johnson----alderwerield---agger---enrique
    ----------------gerrard---------ilicic--------------
    sturridge-------------suarez-------------coutinho
    ---------------------benteke-----------------------

subs: de vrij, wisdom, diame, honda, ince, lucas, eriksen
how do you lot like Josip Ilicic?

  40. The only one who seems to think it's likely Suarez is leaving this summer is you. Most fans are happy for him to stay, the manager wants him to stay, the MD wants him to stay and I'd say most of his team mates want him to stay. Suarez himself says he wants to stay .. so why this constant speculation that he'll leave? Once again a beat-up that is sourced in the media, get's momentum in the media and then gets re-reported in the media, all with no substance.

    ReplyDelete
  41. It's always best to do the talking after the game. Everton are no Newcastle United and Suarez was MISSED big time today.

On a positive Hendo is playing fantastic at the moment and Coutinho is one classy player.

Carragher is going to be missed by every Liverpool supporter for these derby games.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Still think we can cope without our best player, do you?

    ReplyDelete
  43. I watched ERIKSEN today, before the the EVERTON match. He ran the game without being outstanding.Watched only the second half but he set up 2 goals and dictated everything AJAX did.He came deep a lot to pick up the ball but made intelligent runs to join the likes of FISCHER, BABEL and DE JONG.He's a player that doesn't give it away cheaply.
ALDERWEIRELD was very quite but that was down to AJAX dominating.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Absolutely. Liverpool drew TWELVE league games this season with Suarez in the first XI, so what's the difference here? Teams draw games. Big deal. It has nothing to do with the absence of Suarez.

    ReplyDelete
  45. And, your point is what, exactly? I must be blind, but please show me where in this article I stated, hinted or intimated that Suarez might leave this summer. I referred to his 'absence', i.e. his 10-game ban. This is not a 'beat-up' in any way - you're projecting tht onto this article.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Today had everything to do with the absence of Luis Suarez. Without his movement, energy, and creativity Liverpool were a little flat against a solid defence. It is in matches of today's ilk that our leading scorer is most needed. Your point regarding the number of games Liverpool having drawn previous matches with Luis in the team is irrelevant, and does not alter the fact that had Luis Suarez played today, Liverpool would have been far more dangerous.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Thinking further on all of this, and returning to your point about Liverpool having drawn matches with Luis Suarez in the team, I seem to remember that Liverpool drew matches with Kenny Dalglish and Ian Rush in the team, but it would be very difficult to argue that the team were not far better off when they were in the side.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Considering Suarez history, even though he is my fecking hero, I don't think that guy really cares too much about his reputation besides his performance

    ReplyDelete
  49. jason now the game is over This again like the chelsea game rodgers is to late to react or makes bad team moves ? What again diffrent or game changing did borini do what again was the point. rodgers is always linked with Ex players who he has managed before ( williams) budget again will be sell before buying . So FSG will give 20 mil and we will have to sell to buy what papers are saying reina skrtel coates assadi carroll downing theres our buget again, The system is sell before buy no diffrent then Rafa year in year out we say same thing you just said hopefully we sign great players . Bar suarez and now maybe coutinho whats diffrent? we need 3 world class at least two above average top players we are looking for from relagated clubs

    ReplyDelete
  50. totally agree m8 different yanks same old story

    ReplyDelete
  51. I don't see what your point is? My point is that drawing with Sturridge in the team is no different to drawing with Suarez in the team. It happens.

    ReplyDelete
  52. He's not the Messiah, he's a very naughty boy

    ReplyDelete
  53. "... so if he does a U-turn in the summer" ... do you even read your own words? You keep talking about it. You write entire articles about it. If you don't think Suarez is leaving then why on earth do you keep writing about it?

My point is that it's all speculation so why is the topic coming up so often? If a player is not looking to leave and the club are not looking to sell him then every time the possibility is mentioned it's just a waste of space. I wouldn't have noticed if it was just a single mention, but you've spoken repeatedly about how Liverpool don't need Suarez, how we'd be be just fine without him, that Steve Nicol thinks the club wants to sell him, that Juve or Bayern want to buy him, that him leaving now would be an insult to the club ... this isn't just a casual mention, you talk it about it over and over again. Of course it's an intriguing possibility and generates lots of discussion, but it's all fantasy. Hence the question: why the constant speculation that he'll leave?

    ReplyDelete
  54. Look, when a player is out of form and making howlers (those 'couple' of bad games cost us the matches so stick those list points on our total and we are closer to the top five!) the only place to prove himself is in training and in his attitude. By all accounts Skrtel has failed to do that on both counts. Whereas Hendo and Downing rose to the challenge BR laid down to them, Skrtel has just whinged about the club, his lack of opportunities etc. He has failed to dislodge a 35 year old Carra and that in itself shows he is not the one to fill his shows when he retires. Skrtel can only play one way: hard tackles. He can't play out from the back without losing possession in vulnerable positions and I don't see any amount of training changing that so it's time to let him go.

    ReplyDelete
  55. JASON If we are buying player Benteke( aston villa) Diame (west ham) stefan De vrij (Holland) Douglas (holland) lukaku (chelsea) witsel (zenit) Courtios french (keeper) ter-stegan keeper (holland) isco (spain) Dede ( brazil ) This list now on the market would be 80 mil . Apparently reina (15m) is going sell carroll (10mil) downing(10) coates (8) assidi (1) borini (5) skrtel (15) 63Mil FSG gives 20 mil Thats 83mil and we can buy that list above , sure everyone has there own players but you get the point , why buy player who rodgers trained or clubs getting relegated we can very easy buy world class player but do the owners really have that vision ????

    ReplyDelete
  56. i don,t think the owners do imo they are happy for things to tick over unless the fans start wanting them out

    ReplyDelete
  57. LOOK,when a defender (player of the season last year) and we wasn't playing like long ball football is in a slump, you don't leave him to rot.
Your asumption that he isn't showing enough in training is baseless because he's been left out before under previous managers and fought back.DOWNING and ENRIQUE's comeback to the team was easier because those two didn't have to dislodge a club legend!
CARRA cost us a chance to advance in EUROPE are you aware of that, no one said anything and his place was kept.SKRTEL can only play one way?
Where as CARRA is the reincarnation of FRANZ BECKENBAUR.It might be time to cash in like you say but with the amount of games he's played this season I expect peanuts in return!

    ReplyDelete
  58. reports have come out on ESPN that liverpool will make only one or two signings ( WHAT) the F--k . Apparently we are intrested in erikson but 17 mil to high yer maybe it is i agree but if we cant go out and buy a 17 mil players what the crap are we as supporters again talking about these great signing we are going to do but again we do nothing. Its clear to every LFC fan we need world class defender midfield striker . thats three world class and we need two above average thats 5 at least . More talk more bullshit from FSG .
    one or two signing really

    ReplyDelete
  59. if they are only willing to pay 17million for erikson they should not bother wasting there time as they know it will not be excepted

    ReplyDelete
  60. No its been reported 17 mil is to much for liverpool ?If 17 mil is to much its ben on espn that thay will only have one or two signings then we are getting two players only under 17 mil . So how the hell is that any diffrent from every years lies. How are we going foward

    ReplyDelete
  61. agree m8 our new owners are as bad as the last and sooner or later the fans will want them out to
