'It's his dream' - Völler insists Bundesliga boss 'will go to LFC'. Replace Rodgers...?

As the Bundesliga table attests, Liverpool legend Sami Hyypia is doing a great job at Bayer Leverkusen, and unless his team suffers a total collapse in the last month of the season, Hyypia will lead Bayer into next season's Champions League. Leverkusen's Sporting Director, Rudi Völler believes the Finn is on the road to becoming a top class manager, but he fears the club may lose him sooner rather than later.

Speaking to reporters last night, Völler - who won the World Cup with Germany in 1990 - said:

"Sami has all the ingredients to become a great coach.

"The only problem is that at some point will go to Liverpool. This is his dream."

Clearly, Völler would only know this if he'd heard it directly from Sami himself, and since they work together at Bayer, it's obviously likely that they've discussed future plans/ambitions.

So, Sami wants to become Liverpool manager? Bring it on! I would absolutely love that.

It would be amazing to have Sami back at Anfield - he embodies everything that is - or should be - great about LFC, and since he left, the gaping void at the heart of Liverpool's defence - and at the heart of LFC itself - has never been filled.

Unlike Brendan Rodgers, Sami would instantly command respect at Anfield, and he wouldn't have to compromise his position by constantly being on the defensive/defending the indefensible (Dalglish) and/or constantly trying to curry favour by endlessly showering players with servile, overwrought praise.

Admittedly, it would be awful to see Sami hung, drawn and quartered by the fans if things went pear-shaped, but if he really wants the job, I'm sure he'll be ready for the bubbling cauldron that awaits.

  1. Him along with Carra as assistant manager would be great...but I wanna at least give BR next season to prove himself

  2. Yes, mate, very different. I'm watching Real Madrid being destroyed by a team which doesn't spend tons of money, promotes heavily from their youth ranks and plays an attractive pass or press style of football.

  3. The german bundesliga is probably the best and most entertaining to watch right now. Im from Austria, so I'm just living a few miles away from Germany, have some close friends there. Eventho Bayern is some kind of a monopoly there there's always a second team that's competing with them. Dortmund is undoubtedly the best model we should run our club - how they bet Franco's 11 today was awesome.

  4. Jaimie I'm a little bit surprised - you as a big Rodgers supporter, would you sack Rodgers for him ? we all know how emotional a return of Sami to our club would be (maybe together with carrager - oh my lord this would be the biggest managing dream team I could think of)
Seriously even you would end Rodgers future plans immediately, by sacking him to give Sami the job. Wouldn't you ?

It is clear you got week in your knees while writing that article!

  6. Hmmm?
All German CL Final after giving Barca & RM a proper arse kicking, with 2/4 of the EPL clubs not getting out of the groups????
You sure the EPL is that strong?

  7. If Rodgers gets some success next year, he could do a lot worse than bringing in the likes of Hyypia and Carragher as youth team managers first to develop towards the manager position. It's also the Barca and Ajax way.If he wants to build a dynasty, he has to involve former players sooner or later. Gerrard is an obvious later addition. Just as long as he doesn't bring in Heskey to coach the strikers ;-)

  8. You honestly think Hyypia, on the verge on managing Leverkusen to the CL, is going to walk away from one of the top clubs in the top league in Europe (Germany 8 Spain 1!) to manage the Liverpool YOUTH team ??

I'd love Sami to be the manager of LFC .. The guy's an absolute Legend. I fight Rodger's corner most of the time to be given time but if you offered me Sami for Rodger's in the morning .. I'd bite your hand off ..Doh ! :-)

  9. No, I wouldn't sack Rodgers for Hyypia, and I don't think I suggested that :-) As one for the future, Hyypia is definitely one to consider.

  12. It's not quite as open as the EPL? What are you watching? Did you not see the complete and utter dismantling of Real Madrid, that was pretty open play. Right now, the best football in the world is being played in Germany, not England, not Spain. As Rafa would say "It's a fact."

If you are going to say a team like Leverkusen isn't as good as say Bayern Munich, you might want to remember the date October 28, 2012. That's when Leverkusen beat them. Or March 2, 2013, when, although it was a loss, it was only a 3-2 loss to Dortmund, not a 4-1 drubbing.

When you start to make the EPL and Bundisliga comparisons...Well, Bayern is their Man U. Dortmund is their City. That's where the comparison ends. I'd take Shalke and Leverkusen in a match against Arsenal or Chelski any day.

  13. And you base this on what exactly?

  14. spot on thats why tactics bad very much the same in other games to late to react. But in the other hand now Im 99% sure he wants us to stay on the ladder where we are. So you could also say no Vision buy owners or rodgers cause there happy just being there. like the start off season lots sad rodgers was more cheaper vision. rather then champions leage. lets stay middle of ladder away from relagationand live off sponsors dollars not FSG. So might not berodgers fault about where we want to go foward. but team structure is game day plan is his reaction to other teams set up is. OOWW well lets say what we been saying last 6 year. next year

  15. It will be great if next season must be given 1 more chances to improved and settle his final project at LFC.After that if still we cannot achieve good target with B.Rodgers maybe it is good times to recall back Sami Hyppia to incharge LFC senior team.Next season Sami HyPPIA need to show up he is the best man at Bundesliga. In the same times,Jamie Carragher should be given extend atleast 1 years to let him keep learning about coaching and training the team.Jamie and sami have a good chemistry and colabration with LFC team.

  16. Agree completely Sami would be a great manager for us, only problem is he seems the type who would want to finish a job, getting into the Champions league would fuel his ambition to continue where he is, not getting there would probably do the same, which means we're not talking the next couple of seasons.

  17. Bring him in as assistant to Rafa next season.

Do it FSG - enough of this 'we might challenge for top four in 5 years' rubbish
