During the January transfer window, Liverpool were repeatedly linked with a move for Lazio star Modibo Diakité, and at the time, the defender's Agent claimed that the Reds are 'our first choice for June'. With the next transfer window just around the corner, speculation is now building once again over the possibility of a summer move to Anfield.
According to reports in Italy over the weekend, Liverpool are still monitoring the 6'2 Diakite, and Ulisse Savini, Diakite's Agent, has reiterated again that the Premier League is the defender's preferred destination.
"The player is out of contract in June 2013. The Premier League attracts him a lot, and we are currently looking at several offers"
Liverpool FC boss Brendan Rodgers reportedly spent a lot of time during the January transfer window trying to thrash out a deal for the 25-year old, but an agreement could not be reached due to differences over salary and contract length. In early january, Italian newspaper Corriere Dello Sport reported:
"Ulisse Savini, Diakite's Agent, will fly to England for a scheduled meeting with Liverpool to try and close the deal. [Claudio] Lotito [Lazio owner] hopes to recover at least €1.5m for the player.
In the days leading up to the January transfer deadline, Savini repeatedly confirmed Liverpool's interest in the 26-year old. He told TMW:
"Yes, Liverpool and Juventus are both following Diakité, and today I was in London for [transfer] talks, but I can't make any predictions right now. "
On deadline day, Savini insisted that Liverpool were in pole position to sign Diakite. He told reporters:
"Liverpool is our first choice for June. Talks are ongoing, but there is no hurry. We'll see in the next few days, however, it would be hard to say no to a club like Liverpool"
The 6"2 defender has barely played for Lazio this season, and after rejecting a new contract, his only option would seem to be a move away, and with Liverpool in need of defensive cover, a move to Anfield could be just the ticket.
Is Diakite good enough, though? He may be available on a free transfer - which will probably interest Rodgers - but would he be a first-teamer, or cover?

that young reading defender seems to be a better option. this guy is a bit rusty and not good technically as BR would like
ReplyDeleteare lfc going to improve there contract offer or his he going to lower his demands ,otherwise its a none starter and we all know fsg will not budge on there valuation of a player
ReplyDeletenope don't think the guy will cut it for me have seen him play a lot he is decent but makes a lot of mistakes like skrtel so there isn't really, I'm more interested to see whether the club will stick with rodgers or dump him like they did with dalglish I would like to see him stay on for a season more just to be given that chance I thought dalglish deserved but seeing his treatment it doesn't look to good for rodgers.
ReplyDeleteHad a look at other clips of this guy and to be honest, i am unsure. he is not the intelligent ball playing centre half in the mold of agger, Hansen but more like the do or die attitude and same sort of ability as carra before Benitez added tactics, refinement and anticipation to his game.
ReplyDeleteThis guy could compliment the likes of agger as you do need the do or die and composed ball player in the defence as it brings balance and has been succesfull in a multitude of teams and is probably the reason why carra has come back into this team and we have won considerably more with him in than out.
I think BR tried to change Liverpool's defence in making them all composed ball players but then you lack the bite that is required.
Whatever happends, BR needs to replace carragher wisely as without him this year our win % is a lowly 14% and with him it has been 61% .
Wouldn't that be a horrible disappointment? We prepare ourselves for the arrival of that Brazilian giant, Alderweireld or Williams and we'd end up signing Emile Heskey the Defender Edition!
ReplyDeleteHaha. Great description.
ReplyDeleteI used to love reading transfer rumours. Now it's beyond tiring...
ReplyDeleteNot really convinced, looks athletic but not assured. I think there are better options out there!
ReplyDeletebetter options cost more money and want bigger wages something fsg are trying to keep to a minimum
ReplyDeletegreat to see rush ,rafa and the king take time out to show there respects on this sad day
ReplyDeleteOh gawd please no. He looks terrible and average. Prefer Josemi.
ReplyDeleteLFC....Please stop chasing this player.Boring !!!!
ReplyDeletemore rejects .. sad so very sad
