"Liverpool want him" - Boss confirms LFC want exciting £2m 100-goal striker

HNK Cibalia Sporting Director Dražen Pernar has confirmed that Liverpool are actively tracking one of the club's brightest young talents.

Speaking to Croation daily newspaper Jutarni List, Pernar claimed that the Reds - along with a whole host of top European clubs - are interesting in signing 16-year old striker Marko Darbo. He said:

"We have an official offer Fiorentina, and direct contacts with Roma, Parma and Juventus.

"Chelsea and Liverpool also want him and are actively involved, and Bayern Munich and Monaco are waiting to talk"

In a recent interview, Vlado Borozan, a transfer specialist on the Croatian market, hailed Darbo, and compared him to one of one Serie A's top strikers. He told TMW:

"Here [in Croatia] there’s no lack of talent. You can just to see how many people have left for the big clubs in Europe over the past fifteen years.

"Marko Dabro, who plays for Cibalia, is one of the biggest talents. He is a left-footed [Diego] Milito”.

Dabro has a formidable youth record in Croatia:

* Over 100 goals scored at various levels (Cadet, junior, senior, U16 and U17)
* 15 goals this season for the Cibalia youth team, despite playing only 50% of the games.

Earlier this year, Cibalia coach Miroslav Bojko heaped praise on the youngster. He told Vecernji:

"He [Dabro] is one of the most talented strikers of his generation"

At 16 years and 2 days, Dabro recently became the youngest player ever to take part in a First Division match, beating Velika Gorica's 20-year old record (16 years and 27 days)

After his debut, Dabro told reporters:

"I am extremely happy. I could hardly wait for my 16th birthday and the chance to play for the regular team"

Recent reports in the UK linked Darbo with a £2m move to Chelsea and Manchester United, so the Reds will clearly have their work cut out trying to sign the player.

  1. Always love to hear these stories. The only advantage we have, I guess, it's that BR seems to focus a lot of young players so if we make a bid this might sway him. Jamie do you think we'll beat West Ham this weekend?

  2. Hi mate. Yes, I think it'll be a win. It's at home, and West Ham aren't really fighting against relegation, so they won't have a fire under them like Southampton et al. I have a feeling Carroll will score against us though. He seems to be hitting form right now, and he'll probably be bursting to score and prove a point.

  3. Carroll will not be able to play against Liverpool as he is still a LFC player.

  4. i don't think Carroll is going to play against us. There must be something in his loan contract that prevents that.

  5. I hope so. We normally tend to beat West Ham at home so I think that will be the case. We need to be more consistent. If we can beat Everton and Chelsea then we have a chance of at least 5th which would be good. Is Carroll eligible to play against us?

  6. Its good that Liverpool are still looking for the next wonder kid and getting these players in.To be honest I wait and see and judge them if they ever make the first team as this is the only real acid test. In the last few years we have seen the likes of jack hobbs(Injuries, ok), paul anderson, nemeth, della valla, Lindfield, hammil, pongolle, mellor etc all be touted as the next big thing only to fail.At present Liverpool have got an array of young talent which we do need to thank Rafa for as he restructured the academy and brought in the two super coaches from Barca. Although benitez got this talent, he failed big time for me as he signed woeful people like deggen, Ngog, dossena etc instead of having failth in the youth already at liverpool. It was only really when KD came in that he used the old methodology of Liverpool where he played the likes of kelly, spearing, robinson and to be fair the results where good. This year we have seen the likes of suso, stirling & Coutinho (No chances at Inter) establish themselves within the first team and always making the bench consistently. Although BR may have not got 4th place this year and we cant defend for to save our lives, what he is doing is playing youth and establishing a natural development path for the youth players to come into the first team which hopefully may turn the eye of young exceptional talent of other top teams who are being frozen out and not getting a chance e.g. coutinho; Inter must be thinking why they never gave him a solid chance to play!!

  9. Hard to know what to make of a story like this. So many variables, some known, many not.

  10. I respect your opinion but would like to point out Kelly, Spearing and Robinson all got their debuts under Rafa not KD.
Rafa even had a hand in the recruitment of Shelvey, Suso and Sterling even though they all got their debuts under KD after being signed under Hodgson's 6 month stint after Rafa had left.
Just my 2 cents but yeah, you have some good points.
