La Liga star to LFC? Reds eye £14m striker Del Bosque hailed as 'brilliant'

Liverpool are reportedly monitoring Atletico Madrid striker Adrian Lopez, and could make a move during the upcoming summer transfer window.

According to a report over the weekend in Spanish newspaper El Confidencial:

"After indifferent form this year, Adrian Lopez will be put up for sale at the end of the season.

"His future lies in the Premier League, with Tottenham, Arsenal, Liverpool and Everton interested in signing the striker"

During the January transfer window, Arsenal tabled a £10m offer for the the Spain international, who has a £14.7m buyout clause in his contract.

Responding to rumours about his future recently, Lopez claimed that he is happy in Madrid. He told Spanish newspaper Marca:

"I try to isolate myself from the rumours. We are used to them and do not take them seriously. I am very happy at Atletico, and it is my intention to continue here. The good thing at the moment is that the team is doing very well. I would like to stay for a while yet."

In his first season at Atletico, Lopez grabbed 23 goals/4 assists in 55 games for the club, which is roughly one goal/assist every two appearances.

The Spaniard has, however, struggled in his second season at the Vicente Calderón Stadium, contributing only 5 goals and 1 assist in 43 appearances so far (with only 3 league goals in 24 games).

The fact Lopez is a regular bench-warmer this season may have something to do with drastic fall in creative output, and with only 11 league starts all season, it's conceivable that he may think about moving-on this summer.

Last summer, Vincente del Bosque left Lopez out of the Spain's Euro 2012 squad, but he was full of praise for the striker, and hinted he would get his chance in the future:

"We preferred other options, but we have to say that Adrian is brilliant. It was unthinkable that a player who just had their debut would make the squad. But we are keeping an eye on him."

For £14m, Liverpool can do a hell of a lot better, that's for sure. Comparatively speaking, it's not a huge amount of money, but if the Reds are going to spend on a striker this summer, I'd rather the club went for a consistent, bona-fide goal-machine, i.e. someone like Burak Yilmaz, who would probably cost a similar amount.

  1. He is a very good player IMO... He'd do well in the Prem.

  2. Good player, one of those players Brendan will look at, but I doubt he's what we need, he looks like a borini type of player, just a little bit more proven as he has more experience, and is a few years older...
IMO we should either keep Carroll (if he would be happy with a plan B role) or bring in a new striker that can be used as a PlanB, Benteke Bony just 2 names of such types. Those players know how to put the ball in the goal and can have an instant impact for the team when they come as subs to replace a non scoring Striker front. precise crosses from Gerrard and downing would guarantee us the late time equalisers we need...

  3. Super player, who with ease were one of the best, when spain won the u21-euro last season. Would be a massive player with coutinho, suarez et alii.

  4. He isn't pacy enough for my liking. It isn't that players who aren't lightning fast can't succeed (Suarez, Alonso) but I think we need to get some pace in the side. Sturridge offers that. We could really do with it in the middle of the park.

  10. De Baum man as i said before which club will be willingly to splash 20m for Carroll,to say that Carrol cant play the Liverpool way is ridiculous its the same saying that being educated is the only way to become rich in life even thieves are rich lets jst take him back and use him as an impact sub and start him in some games because BR does not have a plan B he just hates Carroll i feel sory 4 him because he was not given enough time,he almost single handedly won us the FA cup final last season, concerning Adrian Lopez he seems to be a decent signing because his strike rate speaks for himself but due to the ever shining Falcao his been overshadowed by his quality and normally sits on the bench thats how come this season his only scored few goals but 14.7 m for him seems too much.how old is he first of all?
