'Speak to me' - £17m LFC target open to transfer. Better option than Xabi...?

PSV Eindhoven midfielder Kevin Strootman - a long-time Liverpool target - has admitted that he is ready to leave the Eredivisie this summer.

When quizzed about his future recently, £17m-rated Strootman told reporters:

"There are clubs interested [in signing me], but a club must speak to me first."

Strootman has been on Liverpool's radar for a long time, and in November 2011, Kenny Dalglish sent Steve Clarke along to scout the player during Holland's 3-0 defeat to Germany.

Back in November, Strootman hinted that a summer move may be on the cards. He told NUsport :

"I have ambitions and I sometimes talk to my agent Chiel Dekker about clubs, but first I want to be a champion with PSV. If a club really wants you then they come back in the summer."

Strootman's Agent also confirmed recently that the midfielder has his eye on a move to the Premier League this summer:

"All the top clubs in Europe know about Kevin, but a move to England next summer is his first priority and, yes, Manchester United and other big clubs in Europe have been in touch with me.”

PSV are currently second in the Eredivise table, and if things go the right way, Strootman could get his wish to be a 'champion' with PSV, which could hasten his exit.

Defensive-midfield/deep-lying playmaker is a position Liverpool need to cover this summer, but £17m seems optimistic for a 23-year old who's never played outside Holland.

Looking at transfer fees for similar players over the last two years, I sincerely doubt that any club would pay more than £10m-£13m for him at this stage. Is Strootman a realistic option this summer, or should the Reds focus on trying to snag Xabi Alonso...?

  5. if you look at the defenders in this video - yes there is lol
But these 3 are good names, some good prospects.
Would still like us to sign De Vrij, not so sure about the ajax defender...

  6. I hope I don't get slated on here for saying this, as although I'm very up for ANYBODY that can improve us, I can't help but feel, if we truly want to hit the ground running next season then if at all possible, Xabi must be captured. The fit would be perfect......

  9. I would prefer to go for Alex Song at Barca, who isn't getting a look in there at all and hasn't settled and showed his class last season for Arsenal. Some of his assists for Van Persie were absolute quality, he is being completely wasted at the Nou Camp and has loads of PL experience.

  10. Colemaic to some extent i do agree with your point i would definately welcome Song 4rm Barca with open arms at Anfield because his class and his assists for RVP last season were superb, because it seems at Barca he is behind the pecking order and gets few minutes on the pitch but do you think Barca would sell him just after one season may be an exchange deal were Suarez goes to Barca then song and Villa come to Anfield.i just hope Suarez wins the PFA awards because he truly deserves that on a footballing point not that witch hunt by the corrupted FA,media

  12. 10 million is a lot for a player from the Dutch league but you don't mind us spending twice that on Suarez do you? And you would like Honda who is also from the Dutch league. And for whom CSKA paid a similar amount when they bought him from VVV....

  13. I dont think he's the type player we should be going after (good prospect, though). We need an AMF like Eriksen and a true defensive midfielder, not a deep lying playmaker... Gerrard is filling the "Xabi" role now and we are better off filling actual needs if we want to compete for top 4 next season!
