'LFC were willing' - Agent confirms AC Milan wanted to sign £18m Reds star.

Last summer, Pier Silvio - president of Mediaset, the holding company that owns AC Milan - publicly stated that he would love to see Andy Carroll at the San Siro stadium. Nothing ever came of the alleged interest, but according to FIFA Agent Carmine Coviello, Milan's interest was absolutely authentic.

Speaking to reporters in July 2012, Pier Silvio - son of Silvio Berlusconi - told enthused:

"As a future target I’d like Andy Carroll.

"I must admit that for his body build, and after seeing his header in the Euros, I would like to have Carroll at Milan"

At the end of the summer transfer window, ITV Sport reported:

"Milan are prepared to offer €1.5million to Liverpool to secure a season-long loan deal for Carroll. The club retain an interest in signing Carroll, having last month offered to sign him on a permanent basis - a deal which collapsed after Liverpool valued him at £18m"

In interview with TMW last night, Coviello - who represents a number of footballers, including Bas Dost and Francesco Marseglia - said:

"Liverpool were willing [to do a deal with Milan] and I asked for a meeting with AC Milan, but the Rossoneri's leadership did not believe the fact that the Reds would send him out on loan."

Liverpool should've just sold Carroll outright last summer and drawn a line under the whole fiasco. Whatever happens, the club is going to make a massive loss on him somewhere along the line, so why draw things out?

With only 3 goals in 16 games for West Ham, Carroll has failed to do the business at Upton Park, and he could be on his way back to Anfield this summer. Indeed, Hammer's boss Sam Allardyce suggested as much in an interview over the weekend, during which he delivered a veiled threat. He told The Mirror:

“I’m disappointed that he [Carroll] has not scored. The goals will come, but I want them to come the next time we play. We’re running out of games for Andy to start scoring. Let’s hope he gets a few between now and the end of the season. I can’t enter into any other discussions until we’re safe.”

Will AC Milan still be interested this summer? Let's hope so, and whatever they - or any other club - offer, Liverpool should just take it and move on from this particular transfer fiasco.

  1. Yep put it down to a bad and costly experience, sell him for whatever we can get and swiftly move on.

  2. Yeah! Finally somebody wants him :)

  3. its a shame that any profit we make on suarez will be lost on caroll.

But we shouldn't think of it like that: should just think about the extra 10 mil added to the budget.

  4. If we get 10 million for him we should be extremely lucky. I wouldn't know what to justify such a pricetag with. Terrible scoring record, bad injury record, not an England international, no European experience. If we wanted a player with that record we'd be barking at 5 million let alone 10. Our best bet will be some Ingurland anti football manager who actually still buys into this talented player rubbish.

  5. yes lets cut our losses on caroll and ia sure there will be a few more we will have to cut our losses on as well

  6. Andy Carrol was never worth more than 7 million to begin with and liverpool paid stupid money for him, now i'd say hes worth no more than 5 Million, Milan got a lucky escape of paying too much as well.

  7. Ah well, if he stays, at least we got a replacement for Suarez lined up.....yay(!)

  8. Jason, the way you glossed over Carroll's transfer was ridiculous. If BR was involved he's be castigated. Just a reminder, the most expensive English player in history & one of the world's worst transfer flops!

  9. i did not gloss over it i said we would have to take a loss but rodgers should have kept him as we did not have back up maybe he mite have shown vast improvement like downing and henderson.and we will also have to cut our losses on brs flops

  10. I'm sad it did not work for AC, I'm not going to lie after we signed SUAREZ and CARROL....I thought we were going to move forward! But the problem is the hefty price Dalglish & Comolli paid for him. It's still puzzles as to why/how they did that!

All in all...I don't think he is good enough for Liverpool and should be sold in the summer. We have to accept we flopped with his transfer.

    So disappointing.

  11. It's ironic that Downing's upturn in form coincided with Sturridge brought in, a more mobile footballer able to make runs into the box & get onto the end of crosses. Remember that clip of Shelvey telling Carroll off for not making a run into the box, that sort of immobility doesn't deserve to be in the 1st 11. 2ndly KK hardly played him, when Saurez got 8 match ban Carroll remained benched. 3rdly he was given the platform to shine for the hammers & hasn't taken it!

  12. Welsh but someone like that yeah. You never know Pardew may lose his mind or whoever comes up from the Championship. Cardiff, Watford and Forest would be my guess and Carrol could be their "big" signing showing commitment to staying up.

  13. downing started playing well before sturridge signed i would be more worried about sturridge if i was you,is form as dipped drastically been a waste of a starting place the last few games

  14. or borinni lets not forget how he has set the premiership alight

  15. One would think spending £10m more on a player than we did on Suarez would result in at least a player that is half as good as Suarez but Carroll isn't even an eighth of Suarez. Borini has been poor to date but Carroll, for the fee paid, is a joke, an absolute joke.

  16. But to be honest who thought he was that bad after the 2 goals he scored against us that season? Surely im not the only one that thought a modern day toshack/keegan partnership was in the offing!!

    ReplyDelete
  17. No point in keeping him and thinking he'll improve - he is that bad - and wouldn't have played under BR (give me Ngoo) - the loan was his chance to do us both a favour -and well - he ****** it

    ReplyDelete
  18. Not that worried about sturridge yet - ok off form a bit atm but his qualities and pace should see him ok long term - i think he's carrying an injury..

  19. I cant deny Carrolls been a flop. And too much was paid but the people buying him could only judge him on his performances for Newcastle and England, and back in those days he was a great prospect. Wha I think is strange is when good money is paid for players who have never really shown much at the time of their signing.

  20. Oh I'm very wary about buying a British player for £35m when he only had half-a-season of regular top flight football to his name! I didn't think he was as bad as I think he is now but certainly wasn't all lovey dovey about him like the British media to say the least, at the time as he had proven very very very little at that point. I remember thinking at the time that he could easily be the next Heskey, not Tosh or Shearer. My expectations weren't high as he had proven very little but I didn't expect him to be this bad. Now, I'd even be shocked if he turned out to be as good as Heskey at his, erm, best ;)

  21. I def agree with trying Ngoo as plan B. u reckon Accrington will take him on?

    ReplyDelete
  22. As a player no but as a stand in for Winstanley their Moscow maybe..

    ReplyDelete
  23. if hes injured he should not be playing i also think it affects suarez when sturridge plays he seems less affective

  24. agree the fee was way to much for both of them probably cost kenny his job i hope fsg are as ruthless when they take a look at rodgers signings and season of utter tripe

  25. Jamie Kanwar, everytime I read anything you write about AC, I start to laugh. You are an absolute nobody and you have access to no inside information at all. No wonder you will delete the comments because you are too big a coward to face criticism. No wonder the web is filled with warnings against your writing. Does your lover promise you extra good sex if you can write rubbish? Certainly there must be a reason for your stupidity.

  26. FSG won't fire Rodgers as he is their pick for the long term it seems. They will stick by him for at least another season. KK II didn't seem like he was their long term choice. So Rodgers won't be judged in correlation to KK II's reign, in terms of how FSG view things, me thinks, as it does seem like they have made a commitment for the long term with Rodgers, come rain or shine.

  27. Did anybody attend he game when Newcastle played Liverpool in December 2010 Andy Carroll had a great game giving our back line a terrible time I along with many other fans that day thought who is this kid he was just unplayable just awesome.
I'm sure we all agree the price tag has affected him and the gamble for Andy to get us in the Champs league failed. I can see why Liverpool wanted to loan Andy out and save on his 100 k salary a week. But the whole Andy Carroll affair fas been a fiasco for Liverpool and especially the nutcase comment in the transfer window.

  28. i agree i think were stuck with him as well because he will not rock the boat

  29. Actually he has European experience
He played when lost to Braga couple years ago.

  30. tranfer fee aside id have carroll over borini any day of the week ....i still believe ac will come good ....id take him back and sack rogers but thats just me

  31. True colours shining through re AC. he should never of had to leave newcastle as he was developing nicely.
a swap for ben arfa, or any of newcastle's good players seems most likely.
