Karma? Why I'm glad Steven Gerrard missed the penalty against West Brom

You knew it was coming, so here it is: After a few months of trying hard to stay on his feet, Luis Suarez let himself down again tonight by collapsing to the ground under minimal contact, which resulted in a grossly unfair Liverpool penalty. As a fan of fair play in football, my heart sank when the referee pointed to the penalty spot, but luckily, the Gods of karma were watching, and justice was duly served.

Regular readers will know how much I despise cheating and gamesmanship, and I highlight it even when it's Liverpool players doing it. Well, tonight, Suarez arguably conned the referee once again:

Suarez dive West Brom

IMO, it's as blatant a dive as you'll see. Suarez ran straight into Olssen, and then threw himself to the floor as soon as he felt contact on his back. Olssen's arm remains at his side at all times, so where exactly is the downward pressure that forces Suarez to hit the deck?

Even if there was slight contact, it's the penalty area - defenders and attackers are going to clash bodies, but in no way is there enough force to send Suarez sprawling to the ground (IMO). It's a cynical display of gamesmanship: wait for the slightest contact and then hit the deck.

Brendan Rodgers admitted that the penalty was harsh, which is rather surprising given his usual 'Suarez can do no wrong' stance. He told LFC.com:

"It looked from the side that it [the penalty] may have been a bit harsh, to be honest, but I haven't seen the replay of it. The referee has given it and it was an opportunity for us, but there is no blame on Steven"

Winning a game through cheating/gamesmanship is no win at all, which is why I was glad to see Ben Foster save Steven Gerrard's penalty. That may be heresy to most fans, but I don't care. Where is the glory in winning a game through cheating? I want Liverpool to win fairly, not cynically, and if Gerrard had scored, it would've been a major injustice.

It makes me sick to see fans condoning and encouraging cheating, and the sad truth is that if Gerrard had scored, most LFC fans wouldn't have given it a second thought. The fact that Suarez dived to win the penalty would barely even register; all that would matter is the goal, and how it came about would be forgotten.

In other words: Who cares about cheating as long as the team gets an advantage? This is the mindset of the modern football fan, and this is the reason football continues to wallow in the gutter.

  5. I didn't think he dove. Did he go down easily? Perhaps.

But he was pushed (albeit slightly) and if I remember correctly there was contact with his leg.  In fact, Olsson didn't even yell at him.  He yelled at the referee because it was a soft foul (at best).

In my view, it should have been a non-call as there was some contact, but not that much contact that it was blatant by any stretch.

Jaimie, it's sad though that you are so quick to try to "zing" Luis.  We get it; you don't like him.  If he went out and scored a hat trick tonight, you wouldn't have written an article about it because you don't like it.  But you have an article up about an alleged dive less than two hours after the game.

I'm not condoning cheating and honestly, I agree with you in that I was not upset when Stevie missed the penalty because it was a soft foul.  But I didn't think that Luis dove.

It certainly was not the same as the Stoke example from October where there was no contact whatsoever.

  7. It's nice to hear an honest Liverpool fan that despises Suarez cheating! We were lucky tonight but I think we defended well. Good luck to you and LFC for the rest of the season, and Suarez please, please cut it out - you are good enough to not cheat.

  8. Is there no room for people to interpret the contact differently? Look, once we establish that it's a dive then I'm with you, there is no justice from scoring the penalty and we don't deserve it. But is there really absolutely no question whatsoever? You are 100% dead sure, would literally bet your own life on it not being a foul?

  9. Good Article - simple fact we should not have to rely on dodgy penalties in order to beat a WBA team who are on a poor run of form , yet we still end up losing. Our defence (same players as last year ) now leaks goals at an alarming rate which can only be one of the following reasons - the players at the back , the system / style of play or the manager's tactics / Coaching methods ,BR'S Post match interviews don't really help much heaping praise after getting turned over

  10. he went down to easy YES.... cheating NO, if theres contact then it cant be a dive its common knowlage. there seems to be to sets of rules 1 for cheats and 1 for clever footballers. saurez went down due to contact then it was up to the ref to decide and the fact that liverpool claimed pen and olssen didnt even protest may of help him decided.

  11. If it had been Gerrard, I would've written the same. Suarez is a self-confessed cheat, so forgive me if I don't give him the benefit of the doubt.

Also, it is not about personal dislike. Why is it that you and others always resort to this? I don't know the guy, how can I dislike him? I dislike DIVING; Suarez is a diver, therefore I dislike that aspect of his game. It it nothing personal. Everything I ever write about Suarez is football-related. It just so happens that he dives/cheats a lot. If he didn't, I wouldn't have anything to write about in that regard, would I?

  12. did he dive? didn't he dive? we lost.

  13. I thought Olsen did come into the back of Suarez , in fairness he did go down a bit easy , however there is probably not a player in the league who wouldn't have gone down with similar contact . It doesn't make it right but unfortunately it's the way the game is going . When coaches actually spend time coaching how to simulate properly its an indication of how the game is going.

  16. I feel that sometimes the football gods kick back.It seems big clubs get big calls from refs at crucial times ,that was no way a foul for penalty.I had ten quid on baggies tonight at8 to 1 get in there...

  17. Spot on Jamie, well said, but i must admit that at that very moment when Gerrard took the pen and it was saved my heart just sank like a stone.....

Your right though if we had won 1-0 and that was the only goal it would have been a hollow victory for sure, just probably papering over the cracks.... as we have seen before of late...., clearly we have problems on the field which need to be addressed....

    ReplyDelete
  18. Thank you for your honesty. There was almost no contact. If that was a pen, then there would be 30 penalties every game. We (West Brom) rode our luck to say the least, but justice was done with the penalty miss.

    ReplyDelete
  19. The acid test is whether Liverpool fans would have felt aggrieved had a decision like that been given against them. I feel sure they would however while I agree Suarez does tend to dive in this case I think that a little strong. Enough to say he went down very easily. In terms of the WBA in poor form comment while I admit we had the run of the ball we have not exactly been blessed with that over the last few games and its no coincidence that we start winning once Mulumbu and Yacob are back at the core of the team.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Yeah, sorry for having a different opinion to yours. I'll ask permission next time.

  21. Karma what? All I know is that in the game of the first round WBA took two harsh penalties against us and a laughable red card (Agger). Final score: 3 - 0! Man U, had one red (Shelvey) and one penalty (Johnson), both nonsense stuff. Final score 1 - 2 (plus Mancs champions for 20th time)! Yes, our penalty with WBA was one situation of "soft penalty", after many of clear penalties that never given to us and cost us many points! So what! My opinion about Karma is that our Karma says "No Champions League for another year, bye bye!" and "Brendan Rodgers is not a bad coach, but he is talking too much, goodnight!"...

The problem is we ain't the club we used to be and the age of the squad is very young. Seriously some of you supporters need to get a life and get off FM 2013 for fuck sakes. What's the bet your a closet manc supporter! Cause your definitely a twat for even writing this article. You probulary thought at the beginning of the season we would challenge for the title. 27. The west brom center back said in an interview with bbc that there was contact, and there wasn't much fuss from their players. I think it was very soft, but the guy should have kept his hands to himself. Im surprised suarez got the benefit of the doubt.

I think there's a big difference between diving and feeling contact and going down. If someone makes contact with you and you have little chance of scoring, is it cheating to not battle to stay up? (this is an important point, the contact has to be sufficient to bring the player down, if not then by definition they are diving).
It becomes even more important when you consider that players that try to stay on their feet neither win the penalty nor score. Its a symptom of poor refereeing.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Agger was last man (professional foul had to go), Skrtel penalty - Long tackled him and before Skrtel knew it he tripped him over. Don't try and give us that load of bull. I condemn cheating and there was contact on Suarez, was it a penalty probably not. Was it a dive? No.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I disagree. Saying that a player can go down if there's any contact at all is a license to cheat. What if the contact is not strong enough to send someone down. If they then drop to the floor purely because there was some contact, how is that not cheating?

    ReplyDelete
  30. "Obviously a biased fan would argue that there was not enough force to take the player down, but you don't know that.
"It's equally possible there was enough force, is there not?
"You can't categorically state that's not a penalty."

That was your very own statement when arguing that Antonio Valencia totally deserved a penalty when there was minimal contact from Glen Johnson in September.

This time, OF COURSE, your opinion flips totally on its head and minimal contact = blatant dive.

Plus, you can categorically state an opinion "because I played at a decent level!!!!!!!!" and then deride everyone else who thinks otherwise.

    ReplyDelete
  31. The two situations are entirely different, hence the two different opinions. Just because they both involve penalty shouts doesn't mean they're the same. Valencia's was a penalty; the Suarez incident tonight was not, and the video evidence (IMO) supports that.

There's no flipping of opinion at all; just two different incidents.

    ReplyDelete
  32. It's refreshing to hear fans who are honest about their players. Too many fans justify their players actions when they cheat, Suarez is just one example of many. I'm sure many liverpool fans will be adamant that it was a penalty but every neutral fan will see it for what it is and gather their own opinion. It's a shame because Suarez is an amazing player who simply doesn't need to dive and I'm afraid that he is the creator of his reputation. Sorry but I'm of the opinion of he has "made his bed and now he must lie in it". He played with good sportsmanship today until he decided to do the nasty again, and let himself and liverpool down. Again it's good to see supporters that are not so deluded that they refuse to see it when their beloved team are tarnished by one of their players attempting to fool the referee. The day that a penalty is given every time players make contact with each other in the box is the day I will stop following football. A lot of respect for this article.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I specifically said that "the contact has to be sufficient to bring the player down, if not then by definition they are diving". However it is very hard to judge, and this is where the skill of the referee comes in, and why it would be incredibly helpful for the refs to have playing experience.

    ReplyDelete
  34. suarez let himself down I hate to admit.
but I think its cheating players constantly trying to kick lumps out of him, so if they do that all game then he resorts to a dive, its partly there fault.
broken leg or a dive, whats worse ?
id like to add suarez is a gent most of the time, hes the first to help players up after a 50/50 challenge.
    dreading the Swansea game

  35. You don't have to know someone to dislike them.  The OP didnt mention "personal dislike", he just said that you dont like him, which I totally agree with.

Definition of Like = Find agreeable, enjoyable, or satisfactory.  You can like or dislike any public figure based on their actions.

Anyway, we all know he is a cheat, but we dont KNOW that he cheated here.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Jaimie, the embedded clip of the incident isn't working for me.  Anyone else with the same issue?

    ReplyDelete
  37. Since I joined here a month ago, I cannot recall one positive article about Suarez.  Perhaps I am wrong, but I get the impression that whenever you post something about him and it's always negative, that you simply don't like the guy.  Or perhaps it's more apt to say that you don't like the way he plays. You're certainly entitled to your opinion and there's nothing wrong with having that opinion.

Wo;d you state, "I don't know the guy, how can I dislike him", you also have stated that fans here treat the players (notably SG and LS) as deities.  Those fans don't know them either (most likely).  Do they defend them? Sure. Sometimes with sane arguments and other times with not-so-sane arguments. That's what fans do.

Additionally, I understand that Suarez has cheated in the past and I don't condone it under any circumstance.  I want to win and I want to win in a fair way.  Like I said before, I was not upset when Stevie didn't convert the penalty. Disappointed? Sure. But the ref made a poor decision and the "football gods" saw to it that WBA didn't suffer as a result.

Here's the thing about Suarez: He doesn't dive/cheat a lot anymore. Like I have said before in other posts, the last time I remember him diving was against Stoke, the incident which was so obvious that he actually admitted to it. At best today's incident is argumentative, but certainly not definitive.  May he "exaggerate" a bit here or there? Sure. Every player does! It's part of the game.  That doesn't mean it's cheating.  Why did you focus on this one play as opposed to the half dozen or more plays of similar nature that happen across the pitch in every game? Why? Because it happened in the penalty box AND because it's Luis Suarez.

Now the one credit I will give you is that if it happened in the penalty box and it was any other player on LFC, you would have mentioned it in the same vein.  The difference is that I feel as though based upon your articles, that you have a "special place in your heart" for Suarez than say a Jose Enrique.

We have one the best players in the world playing for our team right now. And the majority of what he's done since he's been here has been through legitimate efforts.  And it's become more legitimate as he's been here longer.

Let's appreciate the talent while we still have him and take him to task when we KNOW for a fact that he did something wrong.  We don't know what he did here was cheating.

No one knows here if he did anything wrong and until we know otherwise for a fact, we should assume he did nothing wrong.  And that goes for any player not named Michael Owen!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Neither was a penalty in my opinion. Was there contact each time? Yes.  But not a foul.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Sorry, but I am not going to write positive articles about a player who is a self-confessed cheat. Yes, a player who has TWICE admitted in public that he is willing to cheat for LFC.

Suarez may be a top player but he sullies the name of LFC, and I support LFC, not Suarez FC.

I watched the game tonight with a West Brom fan, a Man U fan, two LFC fans, and a Sheffield Wednesday fan, and the resentment and sheer hatred towards Suarez from the non-LFC fans was intense. In my experience, non-LFC fans despise Suarez, and that is because he is a cheat. The only difference is that they don't have pro-LFC bias to cloud their judgement. The resentment rival fans feel for Suarez also colours their view of LFC; extrapolate that across the globe, and you have millions of people despising LFC because of the actions of one man.

For me, a player's talent is no defence to cheating, and when Suarez stops cheating, I will start writing positive articles about him.

I don't care what anger I invoke from LFC fans for this stance; players have to earn respect; they don't just get it because they play for LFC. Players like Suarez are paid ridiculous amounts of money, and for what? To admit in public that he'll cheat to win games for LFC?

It makes me sick, and the sooner he leaves, the better.

  41. Il be honest I was pretty surprised to see it given,The problem is no matter what some players will try and bend the rules in order to win,Suarez was wrong to dive if he did,but a small minority will always 'cheat' to win which is unfortunate.I would like to see Suarez disciplined though

  45. You are dead set an obsessive creep. I've seen your piece of shit website. It should be called "JaimieKanwarChat" instead of "LFCKopChat", because your website is more focused on defaming Jaimie than actually talking about Liverpool. Your whole first page of headlines are primarily filled with Kanwar related titles. That's a little sad, isn't it? Jaimie Kanwar's critical realist views of Liverpool and football are different to yours. Deal with it, and leave him alone, because he never tried to bring any harassment upon you, just because your opinions are different, didn't he? Also, get the f*** over it! This is only a game we are talking about! Has Jaimie ever expressed extreme political or religious views that you feel threatened by? Do you feel threatened by Jaimie's articles, which according to you, attempt at controversy? If you do, I suggest you see a councilor, or a Psychologist. We all follow Liverpool, and Jaimie's sometimes negative perceptions of relevant situations just reflect his concern for LFC because he cares about the club he supports, not a manc-like disdain for the club.

    ReplyDelete
  46. The thing is, this type of gamesmanship happens 10s of times during a game all over the pitch and fouls are given and nothing is said. If you give it in the centre circle then you should give it in the penalty area. I've had enough of every player diving all over the pitch, it's time people learn how to stay on their feet and not go down under every bit of contact.

The way the game is played today, it was a penalty, Suarez made the most of it, but so does every player all over the pitch!

    ReplyDelete
  47. Everyone dives during the game. It's funny, you see it maybe 10 times in a game and we just talk about one incident. Suarez is just as bad (just as good) as everyone else. Until we get rid of dives all over the pitch then you won't get rid of dives in the penalty. Under today's standards it was a penalty, if today's standards are right or wrong, I leave that up to you to decide

  49. Cynical fouls are far worse than diving. Unfortunately diving gets worse press because it was brought in by 'foreign players'. Brunts deliberate foul on suarez could have potentially injured him. Diving/handballs are wrong but hurt no-one [except feelings!].

On another note BR's post match comments perplexed me. The team were at fault today however he refused to blame them. The question is if BR can't fault the players than who does the blame lay with? I do feel his team selection was wrong again today.

    ReplyDelete
  50. very soft pen but there was contact i think your being harsh on suarez on this one ,nit picking, jaimie every time we play badley you run a post like this as if the shift the attention away from rodgers, why he took hendo off is a mystery to me and imo that should be the topic were talking about, anyway keep up the good work

    ReplyDelete
  51. BR's post match interview is another thing we should be talking about, hope you are well JC ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  52. As Lawro said, there wasnt much contact, but if it had happened outside the box it would have been a foul, therefore. Its a foul.

You always see fouls given for that kind of thing outside the box, so if you look at it like that, its a foul.

    ReplyDelete
  53. well? i keep having this recurring nightmare that were 9th in the league and out of both domestic cups, nevermind i,am sure were not;-)

    ReplyDelete
  54. Look Jaimie, you're right about the diving, it's wrong of course. Only problem is though, that we have had 10 stone wall penalties this season, and none of them given. There was a handball last night in the box from them too. There was all kinds of shoving and pulling during corners, there always is. People claimed throwins were theirs that they knew weren't. Many players fouled others, this is against the rules and so technically cheating too. Some players were offside and it wasn't given = cheating. What about time wasting in games that occurs. What about players pretending to be injured to delay another minute. What about players harassing the referee, or managers influencing the refs or authorities to punish other players. The list goes on and on.

So although this is wrong, it's part of the game, there's not a single player who doesn't in some form cheat. And you need to accept that. So Suarez is a self-confessed cheat? Well that makes him more honest than the rest of footballers, because they're all cheats, and the managers too.

The game is rife with cheating. And until defenders start admitting they handled the ball, or that they were holding onto others during corners and set pieces, then you can't expect forwards to do anything different.

    ReplyDelete
  55. These articles are just getting boring. We all know Suarez and other Liverpool players dive. We also know most of the rest of the Premiership players dive. I don't know why you bother looking for a reaction from people every time it happens cos we know there are idiots out there who don't care if their team dives. Its just boring now....must be your 20th article on it now this season....BORING!

  58. I agree with this. A lot players are said to 'draw the foul' which they do, but when Suarez does it, its classed as diving.
There was contact, so it wasnt a dive, its then up to the ref to decide, if that contact was sufficient to warrant a foul, and he deemed it was.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I keep having a recurring nightmare that, just when it looks like we are knocking on the door, our tactical genius of a manager takes off the impressive Henderson (who never stopped running), and brings on Sterling (!!) and fncking BORINI. AAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHHHH!

I also wake up in cold sweats thinking of all the midfielder's he might buy instead of looking at centre-backs.

Oh well. At least we played some nice triangles again.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Im sorry but that sounds like a very biased thing to say.
PeteBrown has clearly pointed out an inconsistancy in your logic. Because you dont know if the contact was enough, just like in the Valencia incident. Yes it is your opinion. But its sounding very biased because its Suarez on the recieving end.

  61. The most worrying thing is how the arse fell out of them once the first goal went in. West Brom could have had FOUR in the last ten minutes.

  68. West Brom have had quite a few games where they soak up pressure and then look to hit teams, especially in the latter parts of games. Trying to dominate possession isn't key for their tactics for a lot of games this season. So wouldn't surprise me if it was a deliberate, the way the game panned out, although may not be as smoothly executed as Clarke would have wanted but a win is a win. This explains it better:

  69. I can't believe you use the fact that ur manyoo buddies dont like Suarez as a relevant point. Almost always top players are despised by all others but their own fans. Just like Ronaldo was the most hated when he was here, just like Drogba, jsut like Cantona, just like Henry. If anything, other fans despising him is a compliment.

  70. When did I say you needed my permission.? It's your site!

What I find boring and predictable is the haste to which you restated an oft stated view against Suarez. You believe he cheated. Others don't. Fine.

it's just that it's hard to find a plethora of articles about other players, LFC or otherwise, with the same recurring theme , and you often state that you would treat any other player the same way. Well, I saw quite a few similar incidents in this game and others this weekend upon which you have stayed curiously silent bearing in mind your 100% intolerance of cheating.

As I said, your site, your rules. my point was to give my opinion that this Suarez focus is getting old. you have penned many a good article, many of which offer a different opinion to my own.

I just don't believe that this was one of them.

Oh, and exactly what was my opinion of the incident? Since you said that it was different to yours, perhaps you are able to read my mind - I didn't offer one or state my position. I think you assumed that point...

    ReplyDelete
  71. Sorry Jamie, that makes no sense at all to me.

You argued two opposing approaches and contradict yourself. I agree it's unusual- you are nothing if not consistent generally. But in this case your argument is based on the premise that YOU believe one was a penalty and the other not. that's no basis for an argument. The video evidence shows a remarkable similar set of circumstances. The disagreements are whether the amount of contact made was sufficient in either case to warrant the player to fall, and to warrant a penalty. Opinions differ, but both cases rest upon the same points of contention.

With that in mind, it can easily be argued that you changed your mind as to whether the relatively slight amount of contact was sufficient to warrant a penalty. Your position on this matter seems to have changed from one comment to the other.

Your statement about them being two different incidents is just misdirection IMO

  72. Yeah true but still if Foster wasn't on top form we could have had a few goals,Ah these things happen I guess....although it doesn't make it easier to stomach it :(

  73. That was exactly what I hoped for as soon as I saw another disgusting violation of fair play by Suarez. It was shocking to see us fail to score a single goal against West Brom, but it was definitely pleasing to see justice served after cheating. No team or player deserves to be a victim of cheating, and I was glad to see West Brom players were rewarded by that miss from Gerrard.

  74. I wasn't making excuses for him. But I won't assume that just because he's in a situation where he MIGHT have dove, that he did in fact dive.

Like I said before, we don't know for a fact that he dove.  Would I bet my life on it that he didn't? No.  Would you bet your life on it that he did? I sure hope not.
The referee awarded a soft penalty. The ref made a mistake.  Why can't it just be that simple?

  77. Hahahahaha! I knew it! Dude are you sure you are a Liverpool Fan???? Trying to be a fan and been subjective or objective is hard BUT my friend I don't think you are a LFC fan. Sorry mate, honestly I have never read anything positive from you and I could say 98% of the players that you claim are coming to Liverpool were never been looked at by LFC...Amazing indeed!!! I think this article has blown your "cover"!!! lol!!

  78. Well said. I too abhor cheating and would rather see my team lose than cheat to win.

  79. glad someone else can see the need for centre backs badly. some people like triangles, especially that agger is good at them, shame about his horrendous defending and incompetence at marking

  80. JK, sad to hear that you would not have written the same had it been Gerrard. You only have to check youtube footage to see that he has a long history of diving.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Can confirm that from travels in Africa and the Far East. You would need to witness first hand just what a negative effect the actions of Suarez have had on the opinions held of LFC to fully appreciate it.

  82. It just isn't right to tar all players with the same brush. It's only LS and SG who have a history of diving. Well at least according to youtube it's only those two.

  83. And we could expand that to " What the hell were Liverpool doing taking part in a competition called the Champions League "
    " Champions " League : you're having a laugh !

  84. My post says I *would've* written the same if it was Gerrard, not that I wouldn't have :-)

  85. What were they doing?
WINNING IT, YOU WHOPPER !!!!!!  :)

We won the Milk Cup. It didn't mean we had to drink the fncking stuff.

  86. Has anyone on here ever played professional football? I haven't.

The demands on players to win must be immense, the natural selection of the football scouting systems distil the immense player base down to the elite who will do anything to win.

It is their livelihood, it's not airy fairy, altruistic "sport", where merely taking part counts. It is dog eat dog, die for the cause stuff.

If Olsson touches you in the back in the box you go down. Simple. He plays like an animal most weeks, a real thug.

Wins equal cash. Clean sheets equal cash. Goals equal cash. Relegation equals wages slashed. Let's not kid ourselves. The powers that be deem Bendtner's Paddy Power boxers to be 7 times more "damaging" than racist chanting, based on the fine meted out. Players swear in official's faces routinely. They ALL cheat..........

This discussion is just as silly as talking about Geneva Conventions in war. Everyone breaks those "rules", the victors write the history.

Not sure how Valencia's was deemed a pen by the author and Suarez's isn't. Opinion can differ alright, but we cannot factually prove assertion of a a correct decision in one instance and not the other.

Sorry to see you have a person hell bent on soiling your name Jaimie. I hope you ultimately make millions out of this and break free from working for "the man" like the rest of us :) regardless of your opinions

  87.  This is one point I would vehemently disagree with you Jamie. Yes Suarez exaggerated the fall - but I can guarantee you every manager in the league would have accepted that penalty. Remember all the excuses we make for Bale "oh he only needs a nudge as he is supersonic" etc. There is a clear push and he falls, he wins us a penalty and we should win the game from there - thats all that matters.

Its not cheating because there have been many instances where he has been battered and nothing has been given - remember the elbow in the head against Norwich or the way Stoke battered him and he got sod all.

All this high and mighty talk is rubbish - because does pullis complain when his own player now twice in a row has gone down looking for a foul and when not given he is straight up despite the amateur dramatics? This is blatant racism - when a british player does it "oh its out of character" "oh its because he is too quick" - silly excuses and when Suarez does it "oh he is self confessed cheat" .

Yes we shouldnt deify fellow humans and no we shouldnt cover their blatant faults and we should accept blame where it is due but this constant singling out of one player is getting boring.

Without Suarez this season my friend we would be vying with QPR not for top 4 but for bottom 3.

  88. Agger didn't make a penalty in my opinion, but yes he was the last player, so he had to go because the decision was against him... Anyway, all I want to say is that you can have referees desisions against you or benefit from them some other times, this is football and that's the way it goes! I don't feel that it is "me against the world" when decisions don't come our way and I don't feel guilty when they are coming. This is football and things like that always happen... No karma, no fate, no god, no superman, just football...

  89. look there was contact it was a collision from behind something that can knock anybody down. maybe he could have fought it but no matter what he was going to come down. it wasn't a dive though. it also wasn't a foul, he is at fault for the contact made and not olssen. it should have been a no call. quit with the witch hunt against the man. the pk was saved, the football gods were paying attention and things were set right.

  90. the thing you failed to realise is the baggies were back to almost  full strength for once because of injuries and anc returning players hence the bad run of late which goes to show we need a bit more strength in depth impressed with the defending /iwont mention the penalty thought the ref was fair in the first half but favoured the home side inthe second gerrard and suarez should have been booked in the second half onwards and upwards boing boing

    ReplyDelete
  91. While it would be incredibly helpful all round to have video replays, which would stop most of the cheating and simulation happening in the first place.
