Confirmed lineup vs. West Brom: Striker out; Surprise on the bench...

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has recalled Jonjo Shelvey for tonight's must-win Premier League encounter with West Brom.

Daniel Sturridge misses out through injury, but Shelvey surprisingly gets the nod ahead of Joe Allen, who continues to be out of favour at Anfield. This is tonight's line-up according to Liverpool legend John Aldridge.

FULL TEAM: Reina, Johnson, Carragher, Agger, Enrique, Lucas, Gerrard, Henderson, Shelvey, Downing, Suarez.

SUBS: Jones, Wisdom, Skrtel, Allen, Borini, Sterling, Coutinho.

Last week, Shelvey publicly stated that he felt he'd been made the 'scapegoat' for Liverpool's poor performance against Oldham in the FA Cup, but his selection this evening should go some way convincing the youngster that he still has a part to play in the team.

West Brom beat Liverpool 3-0 in the opening game of this season, and Aldo has urged the players to get 'revenge' for that defeat. He told the Liverpool Daily Post:

"Losing games hurts and I hope Liverpool’s players remember that feeling they had at the Hawthorns on the opening day of the season. West Brom thumped us 3-0 and we owe them at Anfield. With the squad they’ve got they were never going to be able to sustain a place in the top eight. It’s a game Liverpool simply have to win"

Mark Lawrenson predicts a 2-0 vctory for the Reds, and insists that keeping Joe Allen on the bench is the right decision. He observed:

"I think playing Lucas instead of Joe Allen is important for Liverpool - it means Gerrard plays further forward for starters and, while Allen sometimes passes for the sake of it, you feel Lucas tries to get the ball forward quicker"

  1. Do we know if Coutinho is on the bench?

    ReplyDelete
  2. so not a single rodgers signing starting

    ReplyDelete
  3. Great to see Shelvey in a starting 11. Hopefully we can see coutinho and borini comming as subs :)

    ReplyDelete
  4. Please no shelvey, not after that epic miss for england U21, this news just broke my confidence I had tonight, daaamn

    ReplyDelete
  5. yeah because sturridge is injured, and coutinho just trained about 2-3 times with the squad. Borini and Allen not good enogh, mentally not strong enough at the moment

    ReplyDelete
  6. If he's right, I'm happy to see Jonjo get a run.  Squad depth is going to be put to the test over the next 10 days or so.

    ReplyDelete
  7. and if this is the line up i suggest rodgers has an inquirery to how it got leaked gives wba more chance to prepare if this is the line up imo it will not be this, hope i,am wrong good lucck tonight we need the points

    ReplyDelete
  8. Feel a bit sorry for Borini, if Sturridge is injured why didn't Rodgers just play Borini instead. At least it would give him a run out in his favourite position and keep the same shape that we've been playing recently. Not really a vote of confidence for him is it??

    ReplyDelete
  9. id play Gerrard in the front 3 and jonjo in midfield ...good team IMO

    ReplyDelete
  10. Assaidi was supposed to play from the first minute..:)

    ReplyDelete
  11. for all jonjos faults he makes decisions whether they are wrong or right is debatable but at least he has a go

    ReplyDelete
  12. What is the rule in terms of releasing the starting line up?

When is the latest it can be released before the game?

    ReplyDelete
  13. Still avery good team

    ReplyDelete
  14. Allen "passes for the sake of it"? Joe Allen is the best passer of the ball in our team, and a temporary slump in form means nothing here.

    ReplyDelete
  15. So? they don't have to start all the time.... Something called "squad rotation"

    ReplyDelete
  16. Interesting to see no Sterling, I`m guessing he is on the bench. I`m not convinced by the attacking line, just losing Sturridge makes us look a look weaker. Be interesting to see who are the subs

    ReplyDelete
  17. it has to be made know to the ref and thats it

    ReplyDelete
  18. when was the last time two of them started in the league, and if they were anygood you would think they would get the odd start sturridge apart

    ReplyDelete
  19. is that the best you have got to offer lol

    ReplyDelete
  20. anyway on with the game come on you reds

    ReplyDelete
  21. Sterling borini coutinho all on bench and rodgers yet decided for shelvey, that seems to be amazing, just hope we dont see some epic misses again tonight

    ReplyDelete
  22. i would like to see coutinho at some stage hopefully we can put them to bed in the 1st half and give him a run

    ReplyDelete
  23. He did also score, and hit some nice passes. The miss was hilarious, lets hope he never does it again.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Why no Borini? Surely this was his chance?

Good to see Coutinho on the bench.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I agree, I thought BR would do that too, why change the system when you could have a like for like replacement. I guess he just wants Suarez as the main striker and doesn't want  Borini struggling on the wings again? Although id prefer him on the wing than shelvey, not sure what our shape will be tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Subs : Jones, Wisdom, Skrtel, Allen, Borini, Sterling, Coutinho.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Such a ridiculous comment when our whole team plays simple passes all game long. Yet more respect lost for Lawrenson.

    ReplyDelete
  28. You sound like the kind of person that is right about eveything. We all bow down.

    ReplyDelete
  29.  i agree ive seen him pass it 6 yards to a defender

    ReplyDelete
  30.  we need to put the ball in the onion bag to win thats why

    ReplyDelete
  31. This game will be a good measure against the start of the season. Really think we'll prove a point. I think our goal difference - in my eyes the best reflection of a team - is starting to relect that.

    ReplyDelete
  32.  they need rotating out of anfield Lol

    ReplyDelete
  33. no thats JK not JC lol

    ReplyDelete
  34. if we have to worry about WBA knowing our team we really are up the creek  Lol

    ReplyDelete
  35. stick around youll get use to it.....

    ReplyDelete
  36. A must win game if we are to hold onto any sort of hope of keeping up with the top four race

    ReplyDelete
  37. Jason, they just don't get your sense of humor!

    ReplyDelete
  38. I don't understand why assaidii is not playing. He's a natural skilful winger and I don't know why journalist never ask Rodgers why he doesn't play assaidi

    ReplyDelete
  39. I was thinking the exact same thing!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Enjoy the game JC

    ReplyDelete
  41. I agree with @Niall O'Reilly in that this is a MUST win game. Quite disappointed that Sturridge isn't fit but I definitely think we can nick all three points today. COME ON YOU REDS!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Come on we need a result todays lads!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Suarez didn't touch the 'This is Anfield' sign when the team walked out

    ReplyDelete
  44. Will be interesting to see how we do without danny, as good as some of our play was in the last 2 games we still only got 2 points, we need to win this badly & hopefully start a run

    ReplyDelete
  45. another piece of terrible reporting as shelvey didnt say he felt the scapegoat for oldham as he didnt even start the game! the game he felt the scapegoat for was the stoke game had u actually done ur homework!!! the only game he started in january was mansfield!!! dont even have to look that up cos am an actual liverpool fan!!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Good to see us putting them under some pressure here....

    Need a goal though...

    ReplyDelete
  47. WTF kind of a miss was THAT by Agger...?

    ReplyDelete
  48. I see Suarez is aiming into the stands tonight....

Poor from him so far...., hardly anything going forward from Enrique....keeps losing the ball.....Johnson keeps running straight into defenders and then kicking the ball at them and losing pocession...., Downing Henderson looking more looking more likely to score than anyone else...., not a lot from Shelvey so far, would like to see him get more involved.

Frustrating game really, the longer this remains goal less the tougher it will become, need a breakthrough...

    Need a goal....

C'mon Redmen wake the fcuk up!!!

    ReplyDelete
  49. not to bad a first half, but the case at 40mins, when we had zero players in the box, is why we are missing Sturridge. He normally gets in that space, without him, no one seems to keen to be stuck on the edge of the six yard box. Some good play, and Downings shot was a rock. Lacking a bit of a edge, and this game so far reminds me of so many this season, where we are all over the other team, but don`t score.

    ReplyDelete
  50. What a dogsh*te first half, wba havent won in 8, 1 point in 18, come on lads, give me something in the 2 half to smile about :)

    ReplyDelete
  51. We have been so frustrating tonight! I havnt seen us work so hard to close down their defence, its great to see. But then maybe its making us more tired so the players are more sloppy in possession?

    ReplyDelete
  52. Liverpool are missing a no 9 imo, they are back to crossing the ball to no one in the box.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Possibly has something to do with how the players perform on the training-pitch.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Its probably the worst performance Ive seen so far from lfc, just tell me someone what does shelvey bring to the team, what? And everyone else is just poor tonight, very tight from wba, i see a frustrating draw or a wba goal from nowhere and lose the game, we must change this horrible style of playing

    ReplyDelete
  55. Then you must have missed quite a few other passes.

    ReplyDelete
  56. missing sturridge up front ...we look slow...like to see courtino on and even borini if we dont score after 70mins to shake things up

    ReplyDelete
  57. There are just one too many players out there tonight who are letting us down....

    Again....

Hopefully, we will fare better in the second half....

    ReplyDelete
  58.  the shape just doesnt look right

    ReplyDelete
  59.  He's not tall enough.

    ReplyDelete
  60. the worst? really? worse than when we lost to Villa? or when Arsenal hammered us?

    ReplyDelete
  61. Glen Johnson WTF was THAT....?

Talk about poor ball control....not a good start to the second half...

    ReplyDelete
  62. Downing again looking hungry to score....

Shame that we're not seeing that type of HUNGER from other players tonight....

    ReplyDelete
  63. Unlucky Hendo..... Good play!

    C'mon!!!

    ReplyDelete
  64. We are forcing them into so many mistakes, it beggars believe. All our game lacks until now is a goal.

    ReplyDelete
  65. i think your being to harsh, i think pretty much everyone has looked good, and hungry. We have been all over them, just lacking that bit of class in the shooting department

    ReplyDelete
  66.  Maybe he started supporting us a few weeks ago.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Fcuk THAT was close! Great Drive from Gerrard.

     C'mon the Red's!!!

    ReplyDelete
  68. OMG Suarez actually got a pen, although not sure it was one lol

    ReplyDelete
  69. Not saying this was a dive, but it wasn't the most clear cut pen I've ever seen.

    ReplyDelete
  70. we couldn't score in a brothel tonight. poor pen. here comes the new man!!!
come on boy make a name for yourself!!!

    ReplyDelete
  71. Fcuk this game..... :-(

    Coutinho on...

    ReplyDelete
  72. SHOCKING!!!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  73. wow, at least the pressure is away now... no chance for a cl spot any more.. same as half an year ago, were just missing that special sharpness in front of the goal!

    ReplyDelete
  74. Swear to god i was just going to post that this smells of a smash & grab, iam sick of this sh*t

    ReplyDelete
  75. set piece goal for them. As usual we let them in from set pieces. 1st shot on goal they score lol

    ReplyDelete
  76. same old same old....thats one hell of a plan

    ReplyDelete
  77. point proven. agger is just a pussy, yet again he loses his man to the cost of a goal and points.
borini?? really, are we missing something here. im surprised he would even get in the reserves, another panzie

    ReplyDelete
  78. absolutely right dude

    ReplyDelete
  79. Oh well, at least all those so called supporters who wanted us to lose this one might be a little happier tonight....

Yes, you know who you are....

    ReplyDelete
  80. what supporters want us to lose?

    ReplyDelete
  81. I hope brenden gets them in the changing room and gives them a good slap about, regardless of his mistake to bring borini on, the players are to blame for this one, to casual and not clinical as usual.
    laughing stock

    ReplyDelete
  82. haha, only we can lose 2-0 like this lol.

    ReplyDelete
  83. pure frustration

    ReplyDelete
  84. If a team is on a sh*t run we are the team to face, 6 points to wba, 4 to stoke, etc, etc, iam signing off, what a load of shi*te, no danny, same old ca*k

    ReplyDelete
  85.  we have nowhere to hide no excuses whatsoever, to say that I'm pissed  off is a understatement

    ReplyDelete
  86. Liverpool are a joke, the laughing stock of the league at the moment. How can you have over 15 shots and not score, but then give away 1 shot on target and concede.. I give up supporting them this season. Maybe next season.

    ReplyDelete
  87. How desperate are we for a good centreback

    ReplyDelete
  88. Agger was poor today. Very poor. Jonjo will never again be included in the team for the rest of the season.

    ReplyDelete
  89. No Danny indeed......

    ReplyDelete
  90. Yes, its baffling isn't it..

    ReplyDelete
  91. What on earth has just happened. My word.

    Hit and run. Brom-style.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Exactly, but the knives WILL be out for Brendan.....

    ReplyDelete
  93. We were terrible tonight !. We are going backwards; there are players out there who are simply not good enough !. I have been unable to watch the last ten minutes. BR needs to rethink his game plan. They were slow, unable to pass, inefficient, loose, poor first touch and glueless in front of goal. Simply not good enough.

    ReplyDelete
  94.  No fan wants us to lose...but some fans cant see the wood for the trees ...the reality is we have not progressed under rogers... im not happy thats just a fact ....our defence is a shambles this year ....and rogers thinks we can get top 4 ...why ...

    ReplyDelete
  95. pepe one shot strikes again ....pathetic display all round

    ReplyDelete
  96. Can't defend that one. Going on that performance to when we played them at theirs, we've gone nowhere......

    ReplyDelete
  97. That was shocking :(

    ReplyDelete
  98. I really hope BR gives the players a blasting in the dressing room. The blame for this one is on them.

    ReplyDelete
  99. brendon needs to do the right thing and drop agger, sell in the summer. our defence as Ive said all season is the main problem.
should be 1-0 via a pen. just another shocking performance at home.
im obviously not at the game tonight, but think the crowd was subdued from the start .
how we miss those European nights in champs league, years away from that again (if were lucky)
just poor, team spirit lacking and not enough commitment from most.
    lucas played well

    ReplyDelete
  100. Another game we don't win against the top ten sides. We have an appalling record against the top ten this season.

    ReplyDelete
  101. After just seeing that I understand why he didn't start.

    ReplyDelete
  102. There is no point in picking out one player the entire team played badly.
The only positive I can take is seeing Coutinho come on for his debut.
Please Brendan get it sorted out ASAP please.

    ReplyDelete
  103. My sentiments exactly. Sturridge out changed the whole set up and tactically we were back to square one. No one in the box and no creative pace up front.
I fear even he can't drag us into CL now....

    ReplyDelete
  104. if lukaku had been on from the beginning they would have hammered us he just walked through the team every time he got the ball absolutely embarrassing and he was there sub.....

    ReplyDelete
  105. LFC 1892-2009 then we died10:00 pm, February 11, 2013

Those people who wanted Rafa out got their wish and now looooooooook,i hope you can live with yourselves because i certainly wouldnt be able to if i knew i contributed to the death of LFC.Under Rafa we were always in the top few teams in the prem always in CL finals and semi finals and won the FA cup.Whats more Rafa created the wealth with his success and had terrible owners.Rafa was on the verge of an alltime great team yet bad greedy owners ruined it and he wasnt supported properly.I hope the fans who wanted Rafa out just never go anywhere near this once great club ever again as i see it as a murderer going back to the murderers family and pretending nothing has happened.

    ReplyDelete
  106.  yeah and all the players were fantastic..Jonjo is 20 years old try looking at entire team !

    ReplyDelete
  107. WTF is it with you lot picking on Individuals ? THEY ALL PLAYED BADLY....

    ReplyDelete
  108. Downing and Lucas were good. Everyone else... well I feel a little sick - the fullbacks were terrible. Foster was incredible in fairness.

West Brom again - and we're back to ninth... David Moyes loved that. dayyyyymn

    ReplyDelete
  109. Ha Moyles and Neville wont be able to hide their smiles now :L

    ReplyDelete
  110. the buck lies with the player, mainly senior ones ie poor pen from the main man, and agger just makes me angry, him and sktrel need to go. to soft and clumsy. agger on both goals lost his man (again)
the only thing I like about agger nowa days is that he loves the club, but his commitment is cowardish, due to being a sick note I expect.
    bit greedy from some players.
id add that lucas and downoing done well, the rest were just wimps tonight

    ReplyDelete
  111. Hey brendon.....phone....long distance.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Go ahead & have your fun shooting down Rodgers for a loss that was clearly down to certain continual individual sloppy errors conceding pocession and squandering every well worked attacking/scoring opportunity...

When Downing is you most threatening forward player followed by Hendo....THEN you have to accept that certain other players in the side have not pulled their weight....at all..!

Fact is we built up some good attacking momentum in the first half albeit somewhat laboured at times but we did have Brom under a lot of pressure....SHOULD have scored in that half.....had the chance to score but squandered it time and time again....losing our momentum and allowing W Brom back into the game...

This has been pretty mush the same pattern of play that has seen has go through THREE managers & IMO it is certain players who are seriously letting us down but "we" keep them at the Club....& sack the manager....

    Why...?

    ReplyDelete
  113. over 50m spent by rodgers 100m by kenny and were going backwards.... and were gonna need to spend as much to get anywhere near winning this league... mentally we are so weak everyone knew that was going to happen.... we really need to get players in that have that never say die mentality... if that was those men down the road they'd have won it 2-0.... belief we have none

    ReplyDelete
  114. We should break the bank to bring him to Anfield. He's bigger, faster and, from what I've seen so far, more skillful than Drogba and we all know how he turned out.

    ReplyDelete
  115. Yeah sell the ONLY ball playing center half we have to replace with who?
Pique is not for sale or Puyol

    ReplyDelete
  116. Wish I could say I was surprised...

But then I remember watching the team last year and it was eerily reminiscent.

Was that BR on the sideline or King Kenny?

Overall a very good effort that lacked the final touch to put the ball in the back of the net.  What else is new.

    ReplyDelete
  117. I thought we were good. the amount of shots we had compared to them, the fact we completely run the game proves that. We lost tho, and should have finished more chances off, but by no means terrible

    ReplyDelete
  118.  Downing Henderson and Lucas were the best we had today.
I never thought I'd say that about Downing or Henderson

    ReplyDelete
  119. No I mean where has this been said, I`ve not seen any say that, but tbh I`ve not been reading anywhere other than here.

    ReplyDelete
  120. I disagree, I thought we played really well. We again lacked a goal threat when a true striker isnt on the pitch, but in terms of play I thought we played ok.

    ReplyDelete
  121. Er...wow, really didn't see that result coming. I really don't get how badly we played in the final third. Talk about 15 mins of madness - 23 shots by us 4 from them and they win 2-0, did I just watch that?

    ReplyDelete
  122.  im not shooting down rogers im just stating that IMO we are no better than last year...Ive never said sack rogers but then again i didn't want kenny sacking ...the excuses your peddling out for rogers could be used for kenny even though kenny had genuine bad luck with injuries and suspensions and hitting the post ...our defense has gone from 3rd best to an absolute shambles but hey if thats progress who am i to argue

    ReplyDelete
  123. Sorry Zanatos, I am just so fed up of one step forward and two steps back !. We cannot beat anyone in the top half of the league. We are unable to break teams down !. Stat's can be read anyway you wish; the important stat is goals scored. Other teams win ugly.

    ReplyDelete
  124. No. We just want Rodgers sacked.

    ReplyDelete
  125. ball playing centre half? unless you haven't noticed we don't play the long ball anymore. don't even put agger in the same sentence as them, just laughable.
how about a defender who can actually DEFEND !!!!
    agger offers nothing anymore.
he is finished in the red shirt of Liverpool, if were to move forward. move on.
if he and sktrel are playing together next season expect the same results.
basic passing is all that's needed from a defender but consistant. simple

    ReplyDelete
  126. Who the fuck is Onion Bag, and can he start on Sunday?

    ReplyDelete
  127. contracted to Chelsea, he will be putting them away for them next season probably

    ReplyDelete
  128. he picks them and has brought in 2 more who just arnt up to it.... assaidi and cutinho havent played enuff to decide but why assaidi doesnt play only rodgers knows

    ReplyDelete
  129. Its definitely Rodgers' fault. Team was playing so well and he had to take out Hendo and Shelvey for duds like Borini. Why change the recipe when Pool was doing so well initially?

    ReplyDelete
  130. I hope BR slaps himself for making poor substitutions!

    ReplyDelete
  131. no they did not!!!
lucas done what was asked of him, hendo played ok, and downing played well. reina made a great save, infront of a weak defence

    ReplyDelete
  132. We can't beat teams in top half of the league. Other teams win ugly. Stat's can be read anyway you wish. The one stat that matters is goals scored !.

    ReplyDelete
  133. Yeah, Gerrard missed the pen but his overall game was a lot better than certain other players tonight....

    Suarez
    Enrique
    Johnson
    Agger

Those players were largely responsible for us losing this game.

    Suarez was utter shite.
Enrique was okay defensively but utter shite going forward.
    Ditto Johnson.
And Agger was yep, you guessed it UTTER SHITE.

    ReplyDelete
  134. I hope the supporters all slap Rodgers. He really makes poor decisions on the field I have to say

    ReplyDelete
  135. It is because we also missed him before. In terms of how we play, we boss games. Have all season minus the odd blip. Problem has been we have a team of players who are great at pinging the ball about, esp near the box, but no real out and out strikers of any worth, therefore we take one to many passes near there box, so by the time we actually want to shoot they have most of there team back defending. It is a bit like Arsenal of old, who wanted to pass the ball into the back of the net. Thing we do different though is when no real out and out striker is playing, we leave the box empty, so its all around the edge of the box stuff, then when someone does shoot its from to far out, so means we have lots of shots but little goals.

With Sturridge on the pitch, it all changes. The brilliant build up play isnt then wasted. Todays game showed again that we can and do play some amazing football, but without that out and out striker (not Borini who looks not game ready) we dont put it to good use.

One of the reasons for this is that we only really play with one true Striker, the other are either wingers, playing closer in, or strikers being asked to play further out, but normally the former. These players don`t seem to have a eye for goal, as there normal role wouldn`t mean they were going for goal that often, therefore they look to make the final pass to the Striker to much, instead of heading right for goal.

I know we will get loads of stick on here from fellow fans, but if we can get in another Striker to mean Sturridge and him can swap, or even just once Sturridge is back things will go back to before this game, but since Sturridge has been here

    ReplyDelete
  136. shelvey is poor it doesnt matter how old he is... hes a championship player at best

    ReplyDelete
  137. Other than the full backs being sloppy and jonjo playing in lala land we did more than enough to win that game.. the whole game was liverpool vs ben foster he single handedly kept them in the game. OK this season is over now but theres always next season.

    ReplyDelete
  138. Team was playing well. Why did BR make those lousy subs?

    ReplyDelete
  139. Blame should be on Rodgers! Not so much the players.

    ReplyDelete
  140. spot on, instead of selling him, he just needs to get him to work on marking at set pieces. Aggers game play is good, just this season a fair amount of goals have come from players he was meant to be marking at set pieces but they got away from him. Would make more sense ironing that out than selling him

    ReplyDelete
  141. BR should do the right thing and quit

    ReplyDelete
  142. well they really have turned around havent they. funny we wanted to get rid of them - where would we have been today? Guess we really do need Sturridge.

feel bad for Carra and Coutinho though - supposed to be a special day for them... but that was always going to happen. i knew after about 10 minutes it would be the outcome. makes it a little easier lol

    ReplyDelete
  143. LOL, a ball paying center half doesn't HOOF it, hence why he's called a ball playing center half the clues in the sentence. Funny if he can't defend, were you complaining about him last season? As he can't defend? or the season before that?
You have a go at Agger but don't mention Gerrards penalty or the abject failure of the whole team.
Taking the easy option by picking on one player.

    ReplyDelete
  144. Awful. Just awful. That wasn't even unlucky. No way. We create so many chances and some of these should be put away at this level. At this level, we must finish chances. We are clueless around the area- Johnson had no idea what to do tonight. Cutting inside, running into 2 or 3 defenders. Neither did Enrique. Both also gave away possession easily. Poor touch on the ball also. The passing game of recent matches was not there tonight. Agger looked so average tonight. His performance tonight resembled the nature of his brother's business - sewage!
Not enough players gambling and getting in the box, which is necessary if Suarez is going to drift into the left wing position. On an individual level Lucas done his job well, breaking up play and giving the ball to our creative players and Downing played well. He should have stayed on.
Borini couldn't be bothered to close down anyone. What does he offer our team right now? £10M?!
I feel Shelvey is going to get stick but it must be hard to turn it on when you don't get game time since Boxing day. Gerrard should have played behind Suarez and Allen should have had another shot with Lucas.
We really missed Sturridge tonight. His work rate, link up with Suarez, movement, pace and creativity was all missed.
Foster was superb. Absolutely awesome tonight. Great reaction saves and a great penalty save also in my opinion.
If we don't score then we are asking for results like tonight as our defence is brittle.

  145. I thought they played well. As stated above a few times, looks like im in a group of one thinking that though lol

    ReplyDelete
  146. lol, only borini for me mainly. Rodgers now praising the players on sky!! I do feel for the bloke.
half are team are gutless with no character who cant put the effort in week in week out, no bottle.

    ReplyDelete
  147. Am surprised Lulaku was on the bench. The guy came on last 15mins and changed the game. His presence in the box created the first goal. He made 2 surging runs, 1 of them became a goal

    ReplyDelete
  148. If Shelvey is Championship level as you say  then what was Henderson & Downing last season ?

    ReplyDelete
  149. Lulaku's 15mins made great impact. Conversely, Coutinho's entry in final 13 mins made no impact! Another flop buy by Rodgers?

    ReplyDelete
  150. you should have watched the game then !! ;0)

    ReplyDelete
  151. Individual errors have been very costly over the last few seasons.....

Yet "we" keep defending those players who keep letting us down.... and sacking the manager's instead....

And you wonder why there is no progress?

    Are you having a laugh?

    ReplyDelete
  152. took two of our best players of in Henderson and downing .....next thing we are 2 nil down ..does this guy have a clue......without hendo we have no cover in midfield ...ah welll rogers knows best

    ReplyDelete
  153. Lulaku 2 surging runs, 2 shots, 1 goal. Coutinho 1 shot

    ReplyDelete
  154. we have no spine to the team in midfield and defence no power ..to..lightweight and cortino wont change a thing im afraid ....

    ReplyDelete
  155. my thoughts on the game too, im really thinking a lot of people saw a different game to me, with the whole "everyone was shocking" sort of comments.

    ReplyDelete
  156. Rodgers should sort out himself

    ReplyDelete
  157. i dont defend players who let us down if a player  performs bad i say it

    ReplyDelete
  158.  heres one why did rogers take hendo and downing off...because he hasnt the balls to take gerrard or agger off

    ReplyDelete
  159. I agree! The team was playing well. WBA was lost at sea. And the manager makes 2 ineffective subs, worse being Borini.

    ReplyDelete
  160. What in the name of holy fuck are we doing on the training ground with our defenders? I don't care how good you think our personnel is, they are capable of basic defending.

Rodgers seriously needs to get someone in to sort out the defending, because he has no clue. Keeping Steve Clarke might have been a good idea...

I'm already anticipating that BR doesn't have the bollocks to completely reconfigure this defence, as he should. That will be the biggest test of his reign so far. I'd only want to keep Johnson in a starting position. I've always been a big Agger fan, but he has been woeful this season. I'm fed up of him trying to glance in headers when he has an open goal. Enrique is a great athlete, but is fucking gormless. Carra is out of the picture and Skrtel is a blag Vidic.

We did some nice stuff off the ball, good pressure which we failed to capitalise on, and BR has got us playing some decent stuff of late, but this really is unacceptable. Their goal was inevitable. The team has no backbone.

Lucas had a good game. Gerrard was good for the most part. Downing was good first half and had some nice moments.

Defence: shite. Johnson was as bad going forward as I've ever seen him. Enrique must have had about 6 successful passes all evening.

Suarez had a serious off night. Diabolical in front of goal, and some very suspect decision making. Didn't think it was a dive for the pen, I think he just went down too easily. Shouldn't have been given, though I don't think he 'conned' the ref.

I'd have to see it again, but it looked like Reina should have saved the Lukaku goal. Nice save from Mulumbu though.

Agger at fault for both goals. I'm not arsed if he can pass it out, he is the worst marker from set pieces I can remember for some time.

We have a pretty special run of form against sides in the top 10, ladies and gentlemen. Our record is as follows:

    Played: 14
    Won:    0
    Drew:   7
    Lost:    7

  161. LFC 1892-2009 then we died10:33 pm, February 11, 2013

We had better get used to the fact that since Rafa left we wont be having any more big games,we are no longer a force. We have the memories of Rafas great reign always in the top 3 or 4 in the prem always competing in CLfinals and semifinals and being ranked no1 club in europe for 2.5 years and winning the fa cup and champs league. The people who wanted Rafa out should hang their heads in shame.

    ReplyDelete
  162. nobb, do you always reply to yourself??
your in danger of cheering me up lol

    ReplyDelete
  163.  lets see if rogers has the balls to drop agger or suarez.....hey if they play bad drop them ....he wont ...he will drop jonjo or downing ..thats why he wont succeed ....

    ReplyDelete
  164. How would taking Agger off have helped us win the game? Surely if he had it would have been a like for like sub. at 0-0 I`m guessing he wanted to go for the win, so brought on a Striker, and two attacking players. It didn`t work out, but he couldn`t have known Agger would lose his man from the corner, unless you are suggesting he should have changed to just three at the back? In which case we might have shipped in a goal, then everyone would say OMG why change us to three at the back.

    ReplyDelete
  165. this is true, but would you take Gerrard off? he is supposed to be the one world class player to score out of nothing. also the captain. you are right though, henderson was the brighter player and may well have created more.

    ReplyDelete
  166. Agger had a horrible night.  Both goals were because of him, but obviously another sign that we can't depend on just Suarez and Gerrard.  I am disgusted at this point for this game, and every other remaining game was a must win.  Not sure about BR and his "philosophy" anymore.

    ReplyDelete
  167. We completely controlled the game up until the end. If the attacking players had finished better, just like so many games this season we would have been miles ahead.

    ReplyDelete
  168. i was amazed lulaku never started we struggle with big forwards awesome when he came on....Rogers took off arguably our best player of late in henderson ..and what happens we lose two nil....terrible substitutions tactically from rogers

    ReplyDelete
  169. my fear of this guy is hes another lightweight ...

    ReplyDelete
  170. read previous posts about gerrard.
when i played the game to a reasonable standard I was taught, your only as good as your last game. and my friend consistency has never been aggers strongest point, last season the seson before the seson before the season before and so on.
injury prone and a bit fragile.
I wont lie he WAS a great talent of a centre back, but you are just wishing to much.
okay off the top of my head quickly.......... adams and keown......stam and berg or Johnson are nothing like what your praising or what a centre back should be.
they won games for there teams.
like hypia and carra. he does not compare

    ReplyDelete
  171. You cannot possibly compare them. Lukaku has had 2 seasons in the PL, and has played for west brom all year, used to making impact substitutions. He also got the whole of the anfield road end to run around in against agger and carragher!

Coutinho has trained with us for 3 days. and they had 9 men behind the ball.
I really hope your calling him a flop was a joke.

    ReplyDelete
  172.  plus we wont have the hassle of europe

    ReplyDelete
  173. But Rodgers system wants them to pass the ball out, so you have to have and sign balling playing defenders, otherwise they wont be allowed to hoof it.

    ReplyDelete
  174.  im speaking figurativly ....im just saying rogers cant make the bid decisions

    ReplyDelete
  175. I do hate Br`s interviews tho, when we lose even if we bossed the whole game, they should be along the lines of it werent good enough, the constant praise after losing does wind me up a lot.

    ReplyDelete
  176. Dont forget he started our mediocrity! But i agree, he should have been given a season to turn it around, as he knew the players and the place. That was a very turbulent summer and Hick's & Gillet's final joke of a parting shot. we were left with the wrong manager at a very difficult period for the club, with new owners.

Rafa may have turned it around, or if not, the owners wouldv'e been able to choose their own manager.

    ReplyDelete
  177. funny thing youre naming someone a flop, who played 10 minutes. and trained with us about 3 days. Lukaku is playing now over half an year with WBA. THeres a huge different and its just harsh to call someone flop after 10 minutes. no sorry ist just dumb nothing else ..

    ReplyDelete
  178.  once again im speaking figureatvly .....rogers will only sub certain players

    ReplyDelete
  179. youre coutinho comments are a joke, really..

    ReplyDelete
  180.  no ive seen him pass it 2 and 3 yards as well

    ReplyDelete
  181. Fair, but it raises a valid point, would you have subbed gerrard even tho hendo was playing better?

    ReplyDelete
  182. top pro footballers should be able to do basic passing should they not?? simple passing to full backs or the cdm and onwards.
even titus bramble could manage that. coates is what your saying we need, because hes talented like agger, but his ball winning like aggers is poor.
I give up. we carry on with agger and co, its over for lfc!!

    ReplyDelete
  183.  yes ...hendo is the legs of the midfiled without him teams walk through us...E.G lulaku

    ReplyDelete
  184. oh yeah that's right because hes only 20 isn't he pmsl. you boys are dreamers and living in the past.
I don't want to slag agger more than I have to but he is costing us games.
no training going to help him, he is experienced enough, you either have it or you don't and he doesn't, to fragile and light weight, and can not read the attacking movement.

    ReplyDelete
  185. Rodgers is just a scapegoat, that was all he was ever "destined" to be....

Doomed from the start..., much like Kenny really....and even Roy.

    ReplyDelete
  186. The frustrating thing is that it is not a new problem. It happened last season, the season before, etc, this lack of goal threat. I would even say we are worse than the old Arsenal's lack of cutting edge. Sturridge has helped, big time but we need other players to chip in too. Bar Stevie (yep Maxi/Raul M/Kuyt chipped in but their overall game was always in question), no one from midfield in recent years has really chipped in with enough as well as had the overall game to take this club forward. Yep, we need more from Borini in the long run and maybe a new forward would improve things too but for me, its the midfield's goalscoring threat that is a bigger concern. Especially since we don't always play with a system that deploys two players as out-n-out strikers (a la Man City or United with their Rooney-RVP or Tevez-Aguero combinations, hence they have a bigger need to have a big pool of strikers than us, imo, and rely very little on midfielders for goal threat). The midfield contribution is huge concern. Arsenal had Cesc who had season or 2/3 of serious contribution of assists & goals from midfield. I recall one season where he had more assists/goals than league starts/sub apps and it was in the 20s. Now they have Cazorla who already has 9 goals and 6 assists in the league. When we are not a side that plays some orthodox system of two players as out-n-out strikers, it means we need serious output from midfield. So for me, I'd prioritize getting a midfielder over a forward , whether it be for the wing or in central midfielder, in terms of what position to try and improve goal threat. Someone who has the cojones to know when to gamble and become a goal threat. Someone who can break from midfield to join into the box to provide a goal threat, as that is hard for the opposition to pick up as seen with the likes of Lampard, Stevie, Scholes of old, Cesc, etc, over the years. We have to give the opposition more to worry about then just our forwards.

With this system and almost any other system of one striker, we will continue to suffer if we do not have midfield goal threat.

  187. i get ya, thought you meant literally

    ReplyDelete
  188. I agree hes a good player and young. same problem with him as we had with sahin, you play them and maybe play round them because they come good, then they bugger off end of season then your stuck filling the gap possibly
