The January transfer window may be over but the summer transfer window opens in only a few short months, and Liverpool fans will be hoping that the Reds buy better this year than they did last summer. Liverpool coach Brendan Rodgers has bemoaned the lack of depth in his squad many times this season, but one player who may finally ease that burden this summer is Atletico Madrid winger Arda Turan, who is once again being linked with a move to Anfield.
In October 2012, Liverpool sent an 'observer' to watch Turan in Turkey's World Cup qualifier with Romania, and according to reports in Spain over the weekend, the Reds are lining up a €20m summer bid for the Turkish star.
Liverpool have been linked with Turan many times over the last three years, and in December 2012, Ahmed Bulut, the 26-year old's Agent, told Turkish television channel TRT:
"Arda wants to play for another club, to live a different experience. We are working now to make it happen. Atletico know what our intention is. If all goes well, Arda will leave the Madrid club at the end of this season."
In a recent press conference , Reporters quizzed Madrid Coach Diego Simeone on Turan's future, and the Argentinean boss gave the following emphatic reply:
"Arda isn’t going, definitely. He has a contract with the club, he’s ours, he’s an extremely important player for the squad and he demonstrates it when he has to. Arda is one of the best players we have and that he gives his all in every game".
In 2009, Rafa Benitez was linked with a €10m move for Turan, a self-confessed Liverpool fan, but the tricky winger ended up moving to Atletico Madrid.
Turan - who cost Madrid €12m - has made it clear several times in the past that he wants to join Liverpool. At the time of Benitez's pursuit in 2009, he said:
"I most want to play at Liverpool because of the culture of the club and the fans"
A year later, he reiterated his Anfield preference:
"As I always mention, Liverpool attracts me because of their tradition. In Europe, I am a Liverpool supporter, so if I go to play in Europe, I would like to play for them".
A couple of months ago, Nuri Sahin posted a picture on his Twitter account of Turan in a Liverpool shirt, but given Sahin's experience at at the club, I doubt he'll go out of his way to persuade Turan to sign for Liverpool.
Turan's recent injury history is a concern; in the last 15 months, he's suffered three separate incidents, and the last thing Liverpool need right now is to buy more injury-prone players.
Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo is a massive fan of Turan, and he praised the midfielder at a recent Christmas press event. He told Reporters:
"We have two fantastic Turkish players, we made an excellent decision in signing Arda Turan and Emre Belözoğlu. They are great people and have amazing talent on the field."
If Liverpool managed to pull of this signing, it would provide Rodgers with some tantalising attacking options. Possible formation with Coutinho and Turan in the team:
---------------- Sturridge
Suarez ---------------------------- Turan
---------- Coutinho --- Gerrard
------------------ Lucas
I like the look of that :-)

decent player.... but were in desperate need of sorting out the back first for me.... a commanding centreback should be number 1 priority in summer
ReplyDeleteCan't really see us going for Turan, like the report said he's a little bit injury prone. There is no doubt the guy has a lot of quality but that will reflect in the amount Athletico ask for him. I think Rodgers will go back for Ince in the summer.
ReplyDeletethis is the kind of signings we should be looking at players who firstly and foremost really want to pull on the red shirt with pride, not players who just see football as a big fat pay check
ReplyDeleteDecent player but not for that price....
ReplyDeleteCoutinho can't play that deep in midfield.
ReplyDelete-Turan----------Sturridge----------Coutinho
------------------Suarez
----------Henderson------Gerrard
Would be possible. With Downing, Sterling, Allen, Suso and Lucas pushing for places too.
Who said anything about playing deep. Coutinho would be in the number 10 role, just behind the front three, and he's played there before.
ReplyDeleteCan't really see us going for anymore attackers at the moment. Perhaps defenders and another holding midfielder, unless Coady comes through.
ReplyDeleteI think someone's hacked Jason Carra account , I've just seen a comment from him and it was positive !!
ReplyDeleteTuran is a quality player. I've watched a few Atletico games this season and he has been absolutely immense for them. Hes also the type of player that rodgers seems to favour. Technically gifted, very comfortable on the ball quite pacey and tricky and he can play in a number of different midfield positions including through the middle as a number 10. If we can keep him injury free he would be an ideal player for us as long as we can also strengthen up the back line although I have a sneaky feeling that Kelly will be moving to centre back next seasons as his long term contract was signed right around the same time as Carra's retirement was announced and it is his preferred positon afterall so we may be good for a while.
ReplyDeletehas to be said that your articles are getting worse and worse, u clutch at straws with supposed potential signings that there is no link or even any real proof of any contact, same about your terrible article about liverpools inability to go for moussa sissoko and calling it transfer negligence event though we have enough central midfield players, especially the part about jelavic to everton who has hardly scored any goals this season, i also add that signing any player from the spl is a massive risk giving the sizeable difference in how good the competition is, just look at kris boyd for example who struggled in the championship, articles need to improve for me!!!!
ReplyDeleteoh lol your quite a comedian your wasted on here you should be writing for films or tv ,so your talents can amuse the people on mass not just us lucly few who read these posts ;-)
ReplyDeleteSimply not happenng
ReplyDeleteWould be a great player to have, and you can never have too many great attacking players (within reason), as after all goals win games. But I think we need to look at the keeper and CB roles in the summer. All depends on how much cash we have. For me I would rank in order below the positions I want top level players to come into. When I say top, I mean I would rather all the budget go on the first in the list, than fill each spot with cheaper average players. (price aint everything mind, if there good enough and cheap, even better).
ReplyDeleteGoal Keeper - Main Target
Centre Back - Second Target
Defensive Mid - Mid option
Right sided Winger, forward -last option
I would add Left Back to that list, but I dont think it is wise to completely re-do the defense in one season, as often it takes time to them to gel, and think we would ship lots of goals while they get used to playing together. Also Jose is ok there, and Glen can cover that role fine too, so not the most needed IMO.
The first two on the list are the main ones for me. Even the DM role, which Lucas does well, can be covered by Allen if need be. Allen did this role very well for the first half of the season, so again while money is tight not the most needed.
He's a good player and has the desire to play for us, but I think €20m is too much for him. And his position wouldn't be a priority to strengthen, as other have said before above.
ReplyDeleteYou did by putting him next to Gerrard. If he plays in the number 10 position he should be where I put Suarez. Which basically gives us the same lineup, except for that I would put Suarez in the middle to not lose his scoring ability and I would prefer Henderson over Lucas.
ReplyDeleteYou should give up now. Is there any player whom you haven't link with Liverpool ?
ReplyDeletewe could have had him two seasons ago before he moved to Atletico it's a shame we did not go for him then
ReplyDeleteBefore anything else id sooner we signed a couple of top defenders & a top GK, hope we smash the bags tonight, we really owe them one :)
ReplyDeleteHey! That's quite a crude joke on Jason but I can't stop smiling after reading it. Jason is not that bad but I think he can't help feeling negative when results is not going right.
ReplyDeleteits not a cruel joke m8 he thinks hes a comedian, and i,am glad it brung a smile to your face, simple things please simple people enjoy
ReplyDeletenah he is that bad
ReplyDeleteInce or turan thats a tough one
ReplyDeletei agree we need a world class centre back and im not talking that guy from reading
ReplyDeleteour tactic is to usually wait til the price trebles
ReplyDeletesorry jaimie than line ups just to lightweight
ReplyDeletenot imo m8 turan every time
ReplyDeleteThere's no doubt Turan is the better player, just don't know if I'd pay 20million for him.
ReplyDeletehe is too sloe
ReplyDeleteLOL i was being ironic jase.....its a bit like having allen over messi
ReplyDeleteyep, we score enough goals to win games, but we let enough in to make them turn into draws or even losses. We make games hard for ourselves too by shipping in too many goals.
ReplyDeletei know i was just putting a post up to get the ball rolling ;-)
ReplyDeleteI would love Turan here at Liverpool, especially if the quotes referring to him being a huge red are true (you never can tell with football "quotes"). However, I agree with what's been said before about how we desperately need to sort out of the back before we look at players such as Turan. We definitely need a top class centerback or two and a keeper would not hurt in the slightest. That being said, Arda Turan would be a great signing, in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteCoutinho--------sturidge---------turan

go away kannwar, you and your endless lies
ReplyDeleteAny player wanting a transfer to Liverpool needs his head looking at. Not that many players have anything in their heads to look at. Can't complain though - I've just won 20 euros betting on Liverpool to lose at home tonight. Wasn't worried even when they got a penalty - everyone knows Liverpool hardly ever score from the spot. Beats me why their fans are always moaning about not getting penalties. Red revolution? Yeah, sure. Dreadful players and a manager who'll never win anything. God help them on Thursday - they'll get slaughtered.
ReplyDeleteSo, all the time then?
ReplyDeleteThrashed twice by WBA! Unable to score a single goal against a team like Albion. If Liverpool couldn't get a draw at Oldham, was it really likely they'd smash WBA? And is that Italian joker the worst player in England right now?
ReplyDeleteYES I AGREE WHAT HAS HE ACHIEVED ANYWHERE,TONIGHTS GAME WAS A SOULESS BORE .
ReplyDeleteI hope your wrong,but!!!!
ReplyDeleteI have to face a workmate who is a manc!!!!he,s called shy ted.
ReplyDeleteIf you stop to look at what Liverpool are doing it is rebuilding with youth that takes time and some awful results will occur, i have faith in the current system and only time will tell.
ReplyDeleteThey have a few players that are having trouble with this system but to say dreadful is very harsh and shows you must be a manc jerkoff.
Have all your money on the result on of the next game if you are so sure a few thousand or so.
why did he take henderson off for f"ck sake
ReplyDeletesloe? yes i need a g&t watching that!
ReplyDeleteGet a job Jason
