Staying or going? Agent confirms €13m LFC star's future plans. Good news...?

Liverpool striker Fabio Borini has endured a massively disappointing first year at Anfield, and after a shoulder injury sustained against Swansea on Sunday, the Italian will miss the rest of the season. Fiorentina are reportedly interesting in bringing Borini back to Italy in the summer, but in an interview last night, his Agent once again dismissed the speculation.

Speaking to TMW, Marco De Marchi, Borini's Agent directly addressed the question of the 21-year old's Anfield future. He said:

"Is Borini's future still at Liverpool? Undoubtedly. He has a long-term contract with one of the most glorious teams in world football. For now, the only thing on his mind is to work hard and get back on the field as soon as possible"

In an interview with Radio Toscana last Wednesday, Italian journalist Mario Sconcerti - who writes for Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera - claimed that Serie A Stalwarts Fiorentina tried to sign Borini during the January transfer window, and he further claimed that the Reds are in negotiations with the Viola over the possibility of a summer deal. He told the show's host:

"As I understand it, the deal to bring Fabio Borini to Florence is at an advanced stage"

Yesterday, Fiorentina sporting director Daniele Prade confirmed that the Serie A club want Borini. He told Radio Toscana:

"We seek a striker with a hunger for goals in their DNA, a player who lives for the goal. We like Fabio Borini, but it's hard to see that Liverpool will let him go"

Irrespective of what his Agent says, I personally do not believe that Borini - who cost Liverpool €13m last summer - will be here next season. Injuries aside, Borini has not done shown anything to suggest that he can become a key member of Liverpool's squad. As a comparison, Philippe Coutinho made more impact in one Premier League game for the club than Borini has all season.

Rodgers will need to raise money in the summer for new players, and if Fiorentina are interested, then Borini is an obvious option. Additionally, ever since arriving at Liverpool, the Italian has indirectly made it clear that he came to the club against his will. In October 2012, Borini said:

"The fact is they let me go. It was their decision, so they must've been pretty convinced they were doing they right thing. I was upset to leave Italy in the sense it was my home".

In November 2012, Borini again hinted that he would've preferred to stay in Italy instead of moving to the UK:

"I admit that I would have liked to play under Zeman [Former Roma coach], and I would've scored goals. I even bought a house, which I now have rented"

Let's look at this logically: why would a respected journalist like Sconcerti lie in public about Fiorentina trying to sign Borini in January, or LFC's apparent negotiations over a potential summer transfer? Fans love to think that Journos constantly lie about transfers, but the reality is different.

It's also interesting to note that Borini's Agent has not denied the January transfer claim. Indeed, last week, Di Marchi paid the Viola a backhanded compliment over their apparent interest. He told ESPN:

"If Fiorentina, a club who have shown they are ready to target youngsters with bright futures, are really interested then we'd thank them"

  1. Feel sorry for the guy... very unfortunate with injuries et al.

But, I have to look at him and say that he is light-weight. He's had plenty of time on the pitch to show that he can do what is required, but I just don't see it. It actually angered me to see him come in over other players like Sterling, Assaidi, Suso, Yesil or even Adam Morgan!!!

Sure Borini has an obvious ability to finish, but for some reason, BR has not thrown him a bone and let his preferred role as CF. So again, a player who has not adapted, has been injured regularly and has shown virtually nothing in his time allowed - I have to say cheers to this boy. I had high hopes but I'd prefer a bit more quality.

It's a sad fact of playing for Liverpool: some players have the mentality, others do not. I cannot see Borini becoming one of those - I may be wrong.

I'll give him some hope though - He needs an extended stint in the reserves and he needs to beef up and toughen up. The premier league is a hard place to play and it's no wonder Itallian nancey boys seldom cut the grade  - hope with a harsh word.

    Sorry Fabs

  2. He's been very unlucky with injury. I'd hang on to him personally as we need good back up. He does get in good areas when he plays- makes good runs. I mean unless fiorentina will take £12M + Borini for Jovetic.......

  3. Again, disappointing, Jaimie. More fanning of hatred for LFC players instead of backing them without question. Why don't you write about how Borini has helped us by scoring one goal so far this season and that if he stays injury-free next season he could realise his potential with us? In BR we trust. YNWA.

  4. That is your opinion. There are rumours about Borini and JK has the right to tell us about these rumours and throw in his opinion on Borini himself. 1 goal? Regardless of what I think of Borini (you won't know because I won't tell you), 1 goal is nothing.

Recently, so many people have been attacking JK for what he posts - it's ridiculous.

Also your 'backing them without question' viewpoint is extremely ignorant, so it's a bit hypocritical if you are going to attack the authors opinion here.

  5. we cant have him anymore because in soccer we need goals if you are a striker offcause so better he pulls up his socks and do what is expected of him

  6. Hmmm... he is a rather unlucky player... wouldn't say I hate him.

He just seems very lightweight! He comes from one of the most combatative  rivalries in world football - Roma v Lazio...

I just can't understand how he's so physically mismatched. I'd rather have other players at the club or play others ahead of him.

Perhaps he could realize his potential?

8 games in the league, 12 shots, 0 assists 0 goals

6 games in Europa, 0 assists 1 goal

    doesn't make for good reading...

    Compare to coutinho
    Compare to Sturridge
    Compare to Morgan, Suso, Sterling

Again sorry Fabs... not good enough

  7. Andrea Dossena,Alberto Aquilani and Fabio Borini are the same type players.Very expensive, always get injured and excelent to win tittle MAN ON THE BENCH.Better swap him to get Stevan Jovetic. It is very much better.LFC do not kepp him for next season. This rusty talent still didn't score the goal in BPL games.

  10. jaimie why are my comments getting blocked if someone makes serious allegations against someone and it can stay live for over a day i feel i should have at least the chance to defend myself,

  11. best possible outcome from this would be borini + cash for jovetic....but very unlikely

    ReplyDelete
  12. lol hes on a par with allen though(stats wise)

    ReplyDelete
  13. We dont have to recoup anything FSG sold him to us. they can buy him back.

    ReplyDelete
  14. more likely if florentina do not get champs league, but how much cash he cost us twelve so 8 would make a 20 million investment to me,

    ReplyDelete
  15. sorry m8 do not see the point of your post,am a missing something

  16. Why should we back a player "without question"?

FB has be unfortunate with injuries yes, but his performances when he was fit have not been impressing. Good movement yes but nothing else really. Albeit he was playing out of position. He has potential but clearly he won't play ahead of LS and DS.

And I don't know what your talking about regarding "fanning hatred of LFC".

  17. The interesting thing about the whole squad, is with the exception of Gerrard and Suarez, that no player has a goal tally in double digits (except Agger who has been here for six years).  In fact of the current squad, Gerrard has about 60% of the goals tally ...This said, I feel the addition of Sturridge is excellent.

  18. They own Roma as well via a different principal, Tom something or other, rather than JWHenry. So really they just transferred the asset between clubs

  19. I've deleted that conversation thread, sop it's not an issue now.

    ReplyDelete
  20. not an issue now oh thats all right then its not your name getting dragged through the mud second time he as said it and second time i,ve asked him to provide proof because there is none,i would have prefered if you had kept it live as i would like to know how he comes up with such assumptions

    ReplyDelete
  21. lol...

and Allen is not even a "Get in the box" midfielder!! Even he has a goal!

    ReplyDelete
  22. lol pitty they don,t just want to back one were just a commodity to them a means to make money

  23. He could be the next Dirk Kuyt in a couple of seasons. Quite a good attitude (so far), all work rate, not amazing technically and could probably weigh in with a few goals each season. Not ideal obviously, but I'm sure most fans remember Kuyt fondly for just that.

He deserves at least a run in the team next season to prove himself if he's still up for it.

  24. like i have always said under fsg its downgrading expectations slowly but surely, lol in a few years time we will be getting all giddy about quailifying for the europa league

    ReplyDelete
  25. a goal i,ve seen them go down as ogs

    ReplyDelete
  26. I can't see him leaving to be honest, not after one year. I still think he can do a job for us. We need strength in depth and i think/hope he can offer this to us

    ReplyDelete
  27. What are you on about? I deleted all evidence of the accusations, so it's not your name being dragged through the mud either. The comment threads are not for personal arguments between posters. If you want to continue that discussion, email each other.

  28. I have finally gave up reading your profile activity and apart from earnings, ability, cost and commitment of certain players i have found nothing imo to support that obscene claim.Stride on man.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Thing is, this team needs to stand on its feet come the start of next season. Everyone has had a season to get used to things and to gel as a squad and whoever comes in in the summer needs to further strengthen that squad. Borini has missed his chance imo. Granted, there is little he could do about it but Rodgers cannot take the risk to not bring in a striker in the summer and be reliant on Borini whether he'll ever hit form or not. So if they can sell him, they probably will. Together with everyone whose gone on loan this season, Asaidi and probably Yesil.

  30. Already fallen into it myself - find myself wondering if we can beat Oldham and the likes....!

    ReplyDelete
  31. I actually think he has the ability to do well with us but looks like good player, wrong time for him. Plus after signing him, we go on to sign higher profile (and equally young) players in attack so really he should go to save his career.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Benedetto is a minority member of FSG but Roma are not owned by FSG, they are owned by him, under his own consortium. FSG do not have equity in Roma. Two separate entities, FSG and Benedetto's consortium that owns Roma. Well that is how it looks officially.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Benedetto's consortium owns Roma, not FSG. Officially anyway.

  34. Guys, I'm pretty sure Greg is being ironic here ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  35. He is young has time on his side but is he of the class necessary to help Liverpool back to the top? i have my doubts and think a deal with Jovetic thrown in plus cash is ideal.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I still like him, but unfortunately i think he can be a star in italy but the english game may take some time for him.
I think in Suarez and Sturridge hopefully we now have consistent and outright goal scorers. so adding another player to the mix to compete with borini for the back up spot will be something BR will have to look at.
Whether its internally or another young unproven player or a proven player, Personally i wouldnt mind another young player to come in and prove themselves upfront.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Another floop of BR,IF Floretina needs his service let him go including Allen.

    ReplyDelete
  38. It is sad Borini has been injured. and still is. He never had a chance to prove his worth.

  39. you deleted it after a full day,yet did not let me defend myself at all i would not have a problem if he had posted it directly to me so i could have replyed and if you send me his email address i will

  40. cheers m8 i will wait for his evidence with great anticipation as i know its not true :-)

  41. can you send me is email address thanks

  42. I think you've kind of nailed it. He does prefer to be in the CF role, and isn't as good when he's out of it. Also, he isn't a strong player, and on the smaller side, which doesn't suit his position either. As long as he is there, he is losing confidence, and not really gaining anything from being a part of the side. I don't see that changing either. Which is too bad, because I like him as a player, he's just not working out. It's like Aquilani, who seems to be doing better now that he's elsewhere. Aquilani is always going to be a Red to me, and I wish him well. Same goes for Borini, but he just doesn't fit here right now.

I'm hoping that if Fiorentina really do want him, LFC will let him go, and get a good return on him. Then invest in a bigger, stronger, faster player who is more of a natural fit in that CF spot.

  43. Last I checked, we're in 7th. Arsenal is in free-fall, Chelski is...well, it's Chelski, and I like to think Rafa is secretly helping us out there, If Everton loses and we win this weekend, we jump ahead of them and into 6th, and then who knows what the Spurs are going to do. And there's 11 games left, including ones where we can control our own destiny, against Totenham, Chelsea, & Everton.

Giddy about qualifying for Europa? Barnes was right, we can be fighting for 4th this season!!!

That Swansea game, if they can keep doing that, I'm giddy for the final stretch of THIS season!
