'I didn't dive' - Sturridge on 'disappointing' draw; the alleged dive, & his injury

Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge put in a man of the match performance against Manchester City this afternoon, and after game, he revealed his disappointment at not picking up all three points.

In his post-match interview, Sturridge observed:

"We’re gutted to be fair. We should’ve came out of game with three points.

"It’s disappointing, but it’s 3 points against the champions, so we’ll take that"

When he arrived at Anfield, Reds coach Brendan Rodgers warned that Sturridge wasn't match-fit, but with four goals in his first six games, that clearly hasn't been a problem:

"The first few games I lacked fitness, but I feel sharp now, and I feel more like myself, and there’s more to come from me, and I was pleased with the performance"

If Sturridge can score regularly when he's not fully-fit, just imagine what he can do when he's in tip-top shape (!). In the build-up to the the 23-year old's goal, Edin Dzeko was on the ground injured, and Liverpool didn't put the ball out of play, but Sturridge claims the team did nothing wrong. He said:

"From our viewpoint, the ref said to play on and said not to kick it out. It’s not our job to kick it out. so we played on, and if that's what the ref says then we'll follow it"

Sturridge also received a booking for an alleged dive, but he strongly refutes the contention that he took a deliberate tumble:

"It wasn’t that I actually dived. I lost my footing, and I apologized to Joleon, and told him ‘look, I didn’t dive’. I didn’t dive. I’m not a player that dives, and I didn’t dive here".

During the first half, Sturridge's mobility noticeably decreased as the result of an apparent injury, and after the game, he confirmed that he picked up a knock:

"I think I’ve tweaked a muscle. I did it in the first half, and afterwards I couldn’t sprint. I couldn’t really open up properly. Hopefully, it’s not too serious. I’ll get a scan from the Doctor, and hopefully I’ll be okay for next week’s game"

Some of Sturridge's play was a joy to behold; he's brilliant at holding up the ball; has great close control; uses the ball intelligently, and oozes self-confidence whenever he's in possession. Fantastic signing so far, and his partnership with Luis Suarez is destined to be very effective for Liverpool.

  2. no he didn't dive, lescott did catch his lower leg, so all those waiting in line to dismantle him, limb from limb, don't bother venting your vitriol. he played well, great goal, great start to his lfc career, good lad, long may it continue!!....shame we didn't take three points, eh pepe!?!?!?!???

  3. Superb Liverpool performance only spoilt by another mistake, there is no doubt we are really starting to dominate all of our games. The quality of Strurridge and Suarez is jaw dropping, they are BRILLIANT together. Carra was fantastic yet again and must play every week, the man is a class out and out defender!!!...............................no negatives though as everyone can see the quality this squad has!!!

  4. Sturridge had a solid game today. Very impressive performance. I think a lot of fans underestimated him. I agree Jamie his ball control was superb. If not for Reina, we should have bagged three points. What was Reina doing in a movement of madness. Very encouraging performance from the boys. But I cant stomach the result. we deserved this win. It was ours for the taking and we blew it.

  5. Massive shame to not get all 3 points- I thought 10 players had played really well, starting to see the team come into form.

I'm very excited to see Sturridge prove many doubters (including myself) wrong. He was massive today, not just his goal but the way he seems to lift the rest of the team. YNWA

  6.  Skrtel + Reina to blame for the dropped points. Skrtel didnt bother to mark his man and cant even comprehend what went on in head of Reina.

Such a Defensive liability, Skrtel i mean.... i wish we had sold him during summer.

  7. Gerrard 9 assists and 6 goals so far, not too bad really.

  8. Well, it looked a bit like a dive to be honest, but his claims for losing his footing a fair, too, as there is some contact, and at high speed this can put one off balance.

As for Dzeko, well, first of all he did go down very easily. There was barely any contact and he behaved as if he had been shot. After the goal was scored he stood up immediately, didn't require any treatment at all and didn't show any signs of pain or even injury. What a cheat.

  9. I was very skeptical about signing him at first but I had to admit that Sturridge is awesome...but however the same thing cannot be said about our Sh!t goalie Pepe Reina! What a joke he is... I wonder if he is doing it on purpose like Torres did in his final season to force his way out of the club in a passive aggressive kinda way.
This cannot be considered a temporary dip in form or a misfortune anymore. Reina is not up to the job and thats a fact! If he is not getting beaten at his near post like an amateur keeper, he blunders...Today he even thought he could take Sergio Aguero on...tut!tut!tut!
Even Rodgers was shaking his head after seeing that. Hope he get kicked out in the summer because he has now become a liability.

  10. What impresses me most about Sturridge is how he manages to open up opposing teams with both his runs and his ball distribution. Top signing.

I am just very disappointed that we lost this win, AGAIN.

  12. jaimie you are so biased its untrue he dived end of story if that had been suarez you would be screaming blue murder ,you have gone down big style imo this thread makes you look a complete hypocrit  sorry but thats how i see it

  13. In my opinion, he didn't dive. Deal with it. There was contact, and in the post-match highlights, Redknapp and Bellamy illustrated that with blown up images of the incident. Sturridge has zero history of diving/cheating, and if he says he lost his footing, I believe it.

Suarez has a a L O N G history of diving, and cheating and *admitting* he's a cheat in public, therefore when he does something that appears to be a dive, people will be more inclined to believe it.

  14. Stevie G should get a EPL winners medal at last. Ferguson will give him one at the end of the season for today's goal!

  15. huhhhhh(big sigh!!). WHERE HAVE THESE ERRORS COME FROM!! For the system to work, need another ball playin CB (preferably one with physical presence), Mamadou Sakho comes to mind... Skrtel is good a CB, but lacks composure, this season his flaws have be magnified(struggling in the system). Pepe? hate to say it, but needs to go (if not for us to move forward,bt for his career#being ridiculed). maybe german bloke Ter something to replace him. So surprised we didn't get a HOLDING MD in Jan, teams know lump it into midfield and win the 2nd ball. Etienne Capoue looks decent. since M'Villa's a no-no.

  19. We haven't got pens all season so if the players have to exaggerate the foul then so be it. There was contact so it was a pen but he simulated slightly after the event.
Reina and Skrtel seem to be the new players to have a go at.......... Are Hendo,Downing and Lucas safe now or are these players the new flavour of the month?
I see FSG let 2 squad players go before 2 new ones come in. Anyone else notice how Mr Rodgers kept mentioning how thin his squad was during the whole tranfer window? How many 1st team players have gone in both windows? The manager has worked wonders with this squad and i hope he gets some serious money to spend in the summer

    ReplyDelete
  20. Yeah Reina should be whipped...but I'd bet he'd ask for the whip and beat himself senseless with it.  His pulling of his shirt over his head at the final whistle is all the evidence I need he knows he cost his team 2 points.

Still...there's plenty of blame to go around.  Agger played Dzeko on sides and then didn't stay with him to allow for the tap-in first goal.  Where was Skrtel on the play that sent Reina out in the first place? He wasn't with his man and then he didn't get to the post to cover the soft cross that ended up going in. Why was Skrtel even in the game?  Why would BR sub Enrique out when he's had an outstanding game?  That being said...what an amazing touch by Aguero...poetry. Why put Joe Allen in at all...and why on earth for Sturridge?  If you're up 2-1 with 17 minutes to go, I say stay with the tactics that have taken you to 2-1 and keep attacking.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Suarez had a long history of cheating before he admitted it; you can choose to ignore that if you want, I don't really care. Suarez is a self-confessed cheat; Sturridge is not.

  22. Does any1 else think Henderson should replicate his game on FAT Lampard, coz he ain't no SG. He doesn't run with menace or ferocity of SG, when in possession of the ball. Henderson does have 'TEKKERS'
(tennis ball keepy upy/ 188 bet youtube), jus get his confidence up, so he's slightly relaxed in games(looks edgy). So those open goals e.g Gunners, are food and drink to him. Don't like Lamps but the guy scores and that really all the value he brings CHELSEA, without his goal return he's on par with Darren Fletcher as a player (good EPL player, not a worldie). Does anyone know if Felipo Melo situation, we need an aggressive C*NT in the MID for the lower teams (missing since Mascherano).

  23. DS is British, Suarez ain't - simple.

  24. hey m8 i was a very good cat and never got beat at the near stick even though i played local level so dont tar amateur keepers with the same brush as that useless lump we have between the sticks

  25. If someone recollects our last encounter with City at Anfield, one would see that all 4 goals scored by LFC in these fixtures were STUNNER....and all 4 goals scored by City in these fixtures were due to individual errors made by Liverpool players - Kelly, Skrtel, Pepe and one - today's opener was just sloppy from our defense.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Reina and agger must be gone from here, its several times they both costing us three points, this is too much now especially stupid reina must go hes well shocking

    ReplyDelete
  27. I thought we played very well today.

Once we are able to eliminate those defensive lapses, these draws will become wins, just like BR said.

Can't really fault Agger for the first goal.  I just thought City made a great play.  Agger barely missed the ball; a terrific pass.  I had a much bigger issue with the RVP goal a few weeks ago.

The second goal. I have no idea what Pepe was thinking.  Unfortunately he misjudged it.  He didn't have be nearly that aggressive.  Aguero was in no position to make anything happen if Pepe stays in net.

The positives: The team played well.  We limited the number of quality chances that City had.  And we created plenty of quality chances ourselves.

Two under-the-radar players today were Downing and Henderson.  I thought they were both quietly very good.

If we put this type of effort in for the remainder of the season, we will have a decent chance of challenging for top 5 when May rolls around.

  28. Was impressed with the team, Sturridge was definitely on another level and it seems Suarez was trying to keep up with him. If he could play this well while injured, then he might be our best buy since Torres IMO. I may be wrong but judging by today's match, it seems Suarez is a bit tired (I may be wrong). Yes, everyone will blame Pepe and Srktel for the goal but TBH Aguero scored a wonder-goal and given the same scenario again I doubt Aguero could repeat that. I have wondered why BR doesn't use a 3-5-2 formation cause that IMO is where our strength lies according to our current squad. Suarez and Sturridge at the top; Hendo, Lucas and Stevie as Midfielders; Skrtel, Agger and Carra as defenders; Johnson and Enrique as wingbacks to provide width?? Seems good?

    ReplyDelete
  29. I remember people on here wanted Stevie G out the side earlier in the season........ Fans are so fickle. Who was player of the year for us last season?????? Who couldn't hit a barn door earlier in the season???????
You know what, lets just sell anyone who makes a mistake or suffers a bad dip in form. Lets sell Lucas cuz he took too long to settle and all of the youngsters just because we got beat by Oldham.

    ReplyDelete
  30. *I know it sound like a rant*
When BR talks about a 'profile' of the player etc, when buying players. How come the attributes of aggression, strength and vocal leadership aren't apart of 'PROFILE' for the squad? WE NEED SOME CAJONES', would we have lost so many leads/points or accumiliated so many draws. JC's playin coz no one talks or organises properly, love JC but his limitation don't help the system. In an ideal world teams would let us play our pretty triangle, it would be sounds ohh's and ahh's from the KOP. We're not BARCA yet, although our ball retention has improved, but not too the point where good old fashioned grit is not required (at present need a hybrid of beauty and the beast). Oldham game highlight this more than most, almost as unpleasant as watchin 'a serbian film'.

  31. Ter Stegen would be my choice.

  32. @  pandel
I SERIOUSLY DON'T KNOW WHY A MANAGER WOULD TAKE A INJURED PLAYER OFF. I don't know why you would bring someone on who can keep the ball and give us a extra man in midfield, not to mention playing Suarez in his best position.................. The whole substitution baffles me.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I say the system we play is more Ajax than Barca.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Enrique not match fit yet, was probably tired and Maicon had just come on hence why Enrique came off I guess.

Allen came on for Sturridge as Sturridge was injured and thus in removing much of our attacking threat was at least shoring up midfield to lessen City's threat.

I did shudder when Skrtel came on and he confirmed that feeling when he failed to stay with his man, take command and tell reina to get back in goal. That said WTF was Reina doing deciding to go out there. Shocking decision making. I cant fathom it. Schoolboy error. 2 choices: 1 choice leaves a slim chance of the opposition scoring, 1 choice leaves a definite chance of the opposition scoring if the shot hits the target (peach of a finish tho sadly).

We need to be more clinical, we had the chances to finish that game off. A great example of this was Henderson where for all his recent improvement misses an easier chance against Arsenal when the Arsenal goalie goes walkies but Aguero scored from a much harder opportunity when our keeper goes walkies.

Good team performance and great to have had so many more shots than City at City's ground. The signs of improvement are there. Mentality and consistency in performance level must improve.

  39. The slo-mo showed contact.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I don't think it was a dive (there was some contact) but it definitely wasn't a pen. He went down a bit easily, which I think is distinct from a dive. On the other hand, I dread to think of the reaction if it was Suarez.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I didn't say that there wasn't any contact. Not enough to trigger that kind of reaction, though. But Dzeko isn't the only player who does it. Happens too much for my liking.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Hi there - it just got stuck in the word filter. It's live now. Sorry about that.

  43. While our goals today were stunners, they came after individual errors by their players, too.

  44. Yes, just keep peddling this tedious myth.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I, too, think that we need a new keeper, I think we'd be signing 20 centre backs a season if we shipped them out after a mistake. Defenders make mistakes all of the time. There isn't one who is flawless.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Suarez has a long history of diving/cheating; Sturridge does not, so the reaction to Suarez would rightly be more severe. People will ignore this point though, despite the fact it is the very epitome of human nature.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Here we have an assessment I agree with.

    ReplyDelete
  48. If Sturridge didn't dive why did he apologise to Lescott?

There was contact, he stayed on his feet, overran the ball, then "fell", or "lost his footing"

The referee was really good today, he's the best there is at the moment in PL.

We looked amazing today, so close to a big win, it's coming together nicely and with a decent run of fixtures to come we have a good chance to get close to top four.

Reina misjudged the situation, but there's not many around that would have scored.

If Coutinho lives up to his billing things could get really exciting.

Sturridge oozed class throughout, with his hold up play, passing and finishing. Incredible that Chelsea let him go for the same amount as they paid for Meireles......

    ReplyDelete
  49. I think he got a slight touch from Lescott and he made a meal out of it as his fall was rather theatrical. Anyhoo, generally, a very good start to his LFC career. His so-called selfish instinct is what allows him to be such a threat as he homes in on pockets of dangerous space very well, on-n-off the ball.

I know we don't have a great record against the top 10 sides this season, in terms of points but that was a very good performance from us, especially at a ground where it has become very hard to win for any PL side. A step in the right direction. Hope the lads will take great confidence from this game.

Reina? I can't even be bothered anymore as its been going on for ages. Lost cause, sadly. Not even shocked. Super finish though. Superb.

  50. Suarez simulates but doesn't get a pen. Then Sturridge simulates and gets a pen. Who deserves the more severe reation?

  53. Fair point. It was a moment of madness. But surely Reina should be expecting a little bit of cover from his defenders? When I was young I always used to run beyond my keeper and defend the goal line whenever he came out.
    Neither Skrtel or Carra bothered.

  55. There was contact. Unfortunately there was a definite pause before Sturridge went down, which suggests a conscious decision to go down.

Which suggests a 'bending' of the rules.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Invaded his orifices, more like.......

    ReplyDelete
  57. Yep Dzeko was fine, right after he went down, he sat up, not in pain moaning at the ref, then when he saw we had carryed on playing and the ref werent giving a freekick to him, he lyed back down in pain. He then stood up fine after the goal, so to me it was pretty clear cut he was blagging it. I don`t see any reason we should have put the ball out. Diving is bad, but feigning injury is even worse. If players do that, it will become like the boy who cried wolf, teams will never put the ball out, as they will just think, nah hes just blagging it, then one time the player will be in real pain.

As for sturridges dive, I don`t think he did, as he was clipped, its a shame as players going down under contact are getting booked, and players who have just dropped without contact seem to be getting away with it. The refs seem to have got this all wrong. Book divers, the ones who are clearly cheating.

    ReplyDelete
  58. No, Hendo isn't on a par with Fat Frank... YET! But you watch whenever we break and it's always him busting a gut to make a run.
Hopefully BR has sussed Hendo is a much better bet than Allen or Shelvey.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I dont even think Sturridge is that selfish, I actually think Suarez is a lot more. not so much in this game, but I have seen a lot of Suarez take the hard shot, or try to run round another player, when we have had a man open in the box. That said I do love how Suarez plays, so not putting him down, just saying I find it funny how Sturridge got this tag.

Reina has been off par to many times for me. I don`t understand all this talk of Barca wanting him, as I can`t see why they would.

The performances are getting really good, and so far, I would def like BR to get another season. I know we didn`t win, and we didn`t against Arsenal either, but we did completely run the game today, and have loads of games this season. We make a few mistakes still, which IF ironed out, we will look awesome.

I still think fourth is too far off, but do feel we could get fifth. If we did, I would be pretty happy with that, and feel we would be in a lot better place to push on next season.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Yep. We'll wipe the floor with most teams......

    ;)

  61. Jones have conceded less than Reina per 90 minutes this season. Maybe it's time to set Reina's mind at the right place and make it clear that he needs to earn his place on merit.

Other than that, Agger's mistake for the first goal was as poor as they get from a center back.

Stevie's and Sturridge's goals were brilliant.

If at the beginning of the season I thought our defence will be allright and we need an overhaul in our final third, BR has got the front sorted out, but the back line is the weakest it has been for years.

We need Skrtel, Reina, Robinson and Coates replaced, unless they can find form and show that they can deliever at the top level.

Fazio, Godin, Hummels, Ogbonna, and obviously Kelly and Wisdom are just waiting to take their spots.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Very good points, totally agree.

    ReplyDelete
  63. The reaction wouldn't 'rightly be more severe'- that is the point.

You should judge the crime, not the offender. It doesn't make it right that if Suarez was in the same situation he would receive a much more negative reaction. You should look the incident, objectively, and make a decision based on the evidence.

I understand that Suarez doesn't deserve the benefit of the doubt with these incidents, but if two players are involved in identical circumstances, as I posited in my original post, then the reaction should be the same. Anything else is reflective of bias and/or prejudice.

The vast majority of people (not just Liverpool fans) I've heard speak about the Sturridge dive have reached the consensus that a booking for diving is harsh, and that consensus shows that it is a reasonably easy call to make. That means if Suarez was involved, you shouldn't even have to consider his misdeeds, because the incident itself is sufficient evidence.

    ReplyDelete
  67. There was definitely contact. The problem is that there also was a delay (an extra step or two) before he went down. Of course, that could also be the part where he lost his footing during those steps.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Not always so fickle.

Yes Lucas took some time to convince but convince he did - why because rather than being fickle, many were open minded to change.

Yes Gerrard seemed to be struggling a little earlier in the season but he is a class player (who is not perfect, who is) and many knew it was just a matter of time.

Yes Suarez seemed to miss chances earlier in the season although was still scoring a number of goals. Was this frustrating - of course it was, we were dropping points we all felt we shouldn't be and the missed chances was one of the most obviously visible things folks were able to pick up on.

The difference with Pepe Reina is that he has been making serious errors for quite sometime, think back to Roy Hodgson's first game against Arsenal and indeed he has been vocal on occasion about considering his options on more than 1 occasion. I applaud what he has done for the club but I feel the time is right for him and the club to go their seperate ways now. I am not sure his eye is on the job or that his heart is in the project. Yes people make mistakes, and quite often in pressure situations people make a few mistakes in quick succession. That is not a problem. However, when these "howlers" that amount to school boy error proportions occur on a reasonably regular basis over 3 years now then sometimes one must say enough is enough.

It is a shame as I thought Pepe Reina made a couple of unbelievable saves against Arsenal the other night. I wondered if I had been wrong. Unfortunately I don't think so although he may prove me wrong over the rest of the season but I just dont think so at the moment. A very good keeper who is prone to unbelievable gaffes from time to time. Gaffes that we can ill afford from him when we are paying something like 100k pw (probably) in wages and that will do the confidence of the defenders around him no favours as well.

Granted there are some who are fickle, there are some who rant and rave and call for heads. Fine. That is their freedom of choice. To be frustrated about it distracts one from sharing their own truth  and valued insight with others.

I know how it feels sometimes tho :-)

  69. When did Sturridge get a pen?

I don't think Sturridge dived and nor does he have a history of diving for sure. I think the replay showed there was contact (not enough to go down) but my belief is that the contact, the speed he was moving at and the change in direction (allied to the fact he was running out of pitch and so was having to change direction more quickly) contributed to Sturridge falling.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Not sayin Henderson is the finished article(considering he been lambasted, by myself include), his improvement is there too see. But if you look at all the attributes he posses (ball control, set piece ability, engine and so on), he seem so edgy in his demeanour when playing, hopeful with his confidence gaining momentum he get to Lamp-esque. Don't think he shud employ a shoot on site policy just yet, unless he can 15 ricochets before its a goal ala FATTIE. Shelves looks more of a SG, with his aggressive running style. Personally don't really rate Lamps as all round player, but his goal return from mid is ridiculous (even with 15 ricochets).

  72. I detest play acting, it's rife and despicable. Some players definitely try and use it to halt a threatening opposition attack. Then Dzeko had the cheek to argue and give lip to the linesman. Could have been 2 yellow card offences on their own. 1 for feigning injury and 1 for abusing the officials. I didn't see that kind of behavoir towards officials in the 6 nations rugby games I watched on Saturday.

  75. I think the exits are explained by the fact that they were high wage earners and not likely to play/fit in to the type of system we now employ. It makes sense therefore to move them on and then find replacements otherwise you compound the problem of an even higher wage bill/unhappy players who are not playing.

  77. I think Agger is a decent defender actually. Worth keeping. There is a difference between consistent howlers and occasional mistakes for me.

  78. Suarez may be a bit tired, not sure. However although the Aguero finish was a great finish, it was only going to be a goal with an empty goal to shoot at. Skrtel's poor positioning/reading probably helped Reina's horrible decision and besides, as soon as he came on all I could do was remember that through pass to Tevez...

  79. Nice point, well made.

  80. calm down this isnt TAKE ME OUT, feel like Paddy Mcguinness for get the ball rolling.

    ReplyDelete
  81. great signing, credit to brendon for this signing. it was a pen, but simulation meant he didnt get it, simple.
mankini needs to wind his neck in !!!

  82. I agree and I don't want to sound whiny when taking a point from both the Gunners and City away was almost too much to be hoped for based on the season's history to date.  We've weathered a tough stretch and now we need to put points on the table from teams we should pound into dust and gain some confidence going into mid-March.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Fernando Torres at 80% is still better than most strikers at 100%.

    Daniel Sturridge at 80% > Nando@150!

    ReplyDelete
  84. True; however either Skrtel and  Carrgher hesitated in getting to the goal line! one of them may have been able to head the ball clear of the goal line.
Who was supposed to be covering Aguero?

    ReplyDelete
  85. Gerrard, Skrtel, Suarez all goals were pure stunners..!! I didn't see any individual error from them, just brilliance.

    ReplyDelete
  86. First of all, great result we would all have been happy with at the start of the season. That said, what on earth was Reina doing there and when he does come out, he should commit and take Aguero out or get sent off if he needs to keep Aguero from getting a shot off. And why was Skrtel in the middle of the box. His first move should be to cover the near post. Not stand there in the middle covering no one.

  87. yes m8 has i have already posted thats the best display imo hes ever had hope it continues

    ReplyDelete
  88. spot on m8 once he realised he had lost the ball he took a tumble

  89. jaimie and you keep peddling the myth that your not anti suarez but anti cheating, how you can call people hero worshipers is beyond me ,i always thought your comments about suarez were fair to a degree,,but obviously there were some underlying facts ,you cannot have one rule for one and another rule for another

    ReplyDelete
  90. We didn't need Skrtel on and shifting defence around! Agger made that one mistake on the goal first half, but generally looked quite comfortable defending... Wisdom or some other left back should have come on.

Even shifting downing to Left back perhaps and bringing on Sterling. BR's subs again are letting us down... But fair play, he still needs more experience in games like these. I have every confidence he will get it right one of these days...

Again though... Allen for Sturridge was a nice substitution... But we needed that BEFORE the goal... Timing BR... TIMING!

    ReplyDelete
  91. Suarez does not cheat anymore...

not lately anyways... Still don't care... love that lad to bits!

    SUUUUUAAAAARREEEEEEEZZZ!!

  92. Daniel Sturridge is pure class! When He's come in and been even better than Torres (The succumb-er to blue lies!).

That's 4 goals in 4 starts for 4 clubs (first ever) and i think the first player to score in his first 4 games for club in the prem league ever as well (if I'm not mistaken?).Anyway... Wow, blown away, but an undeserved draw instead of a much deserved win always brings one crashing back down to earth :(

    Defence! Defence! Defence! DEFENCE!

  93. Nice reply but we will have to agree to disagree. For me, it doesn't help new or young players one little bit if so called fans keep having a go. As a club we are famous for our fantastic support(the 12th man). We are the 12th man even when we are 3-0 down at half time in a european cup final. Support the club and players wearing the shirt through good and bad times. I find a hell of a lot of negative comments on here and if i can i'd like to educate them into supporting the the team.

    ReplyDelete
  94. The first city goal was actually avoidable- all the way back from their throw-in. City should never have been allowed to implement that piece of play that looked clever because we were so sloppy.

    ReplyDelete
  95. If Sturridge wasn't clipped, it would be something that I'd condemn. However, I have no problem with diving if a foul was committed on the player; you can't be cheating anyone if you were unfairly impeded.

    ReplyDelete
  96. A too short clearance that lands on the chest of an attacking player is as much of an individual error from the defender as a misplaced pass or failed close marking, imho. I don't want to take anything away from those goals, but the opposition made mistakes in the build up. That is how goals are often scored. Defender makes a mistake, attacker capitalised on it.

    ReplyDelete
  97. The squad is thin and needs players adding to it. If both players who were let go hadn't played a part this season then i could that point but they have played and scored goals this season. The fact is we have let loads of players go in both windows which were never replaced. We have lost all these players in both windows and saved on wages so our net spend on players should of been higher. The owners have said we can compete with anyone in the tranfer market................... I really don't see this.
If you read inbetween the lines of the managers comments you can clearly tell he's not happy too, with comments about needing exprience and "we could have done the Ince deal but now it's complicated". Just look at the Dempsey saga in the summer............... The players have been avalible.

    ReplyDelete
  98. I was talking about Dzeko feigning injury in our build-up to Sturridge's goal.

Agree about Sturridge's yellow card incident, though. He took a touch, but went down one pace to late.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Feigning injuries is at least as bad a form of cheating as diving. And you are right about the "cry wolf" thing.

Gonna defend the refs now. They have a split second to make up their minds. Not surprised they get so many calls wrong. Dzeko at least got a booking, albeit that obviously was for dissent rather than diving/feigning injury.

    ReplyDelete
  100. The point was made about both players simulating so i'm trying to understand how Suarez would get more of a bad reaction in the press. Defenders have got away with loads this season on suarez all because refs wont make a call because of what Suarez as done in the past so that is punishment enough. A simulation is a simulation no matter who the player is and the player caught simulating should be treated the same as any other player caught simulating no matter who they are. It was a hypothetical question just like it was a hypothetical point.

  101. Jaimie's right here, there was contact and Sturridge said he lost his footing.

I don't agree with everything you write but this one was spot on.

Jason is always very negative towards anything the team does/doesn't do. If I had hair, I'd be pulling it out with the extent of negativity posted.

    Come on, man, lighten up.

    ReplyDelete
  102. You never know, given time we may just do that. Gotta give the manager time though.

    ReplyDelete
  103. I think the first goal was textbook for our defensive weakness. It was an exact copy of Van Persie's goal against us. The second one is a perfect example from where we need to improve in the summer. I just don't believe Diakite will bring us any improvement what so ever. To be honest, I think Carra is showing that he's got another season left in him.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Henderson's engine is awesome, he'll run all day for the team and, as he's still young, there's plenty of time to work on his touch and composure. We know he's capable of scoring a cracker but I would like to see him be more calm when in a one on one out wide and beat his man with skill rather than attempt to push it past and run round as he's still quite light and gets pushed off the ball quite a bit.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Just one more point on this subject. By all accounts Sturridge is more likely to get a pen because he is not known for simulation(points made by others here). So if Suarez doesn't get the pens but Sturridge will(not known for simulating) then does Suarez still deserve more bad press?

    ReplyDelete
  106. ince will sign in the summer and cost nothing

    ReplyDelete
  107. I do think he is selfish to an extent but although not to a great extent and not necessarily the kind of selfish that can hold him back as a player. The kind of selfish that can be honed into a very good goal threat. Robben has carved out a decent career, being greedy. Don't forget Ronaldo too. Selfishness & greediness can be a good thing, when honed right. So I understand why some think he is selfish or has been whilst at Chelsea. I don't rate his build up play generally to date (inc. his time from Bolton and Chelsea) but his skill set could the system in the long term as a interchanging front 3 forward, due to his pace and movement, like it has done already in the short term.

Ditto, hope he sorts out the GK situation in the summer. Had enough of Reina. Surprised that he doesn't get much attention from the British media about his poor displays which have been going on for 2 seasons at least.

Well with Defoe injured, will be interesting to see how Spurs do now. Already missing defensive mid kingpin, Sandro. Only so much Bale can do to help compensate for Defoe's goalthreat. If we do get 4th, it will be heavily down to how poor others teams have been in the league this season, as well as us improving. From the beginning of the season, I had us down as top 8 and now, I'll conservatively bump us up to top 6. Our defence still holds back quite a bit, especially at CB areas, in terms of being a consistently genuine good side.

I reckon Arsenal will get in top 4 again. I like their new signing Monreal, a solid all round left back. Santos is a joke!

  108. Even Man u made buckets of mistakes shipping in goals earlier in the season so i'm not that worried at the min. We are getting all the hard games out the way. With WBA, Everton, Spurs and Chelsea all to play us at home i still think 4th spot is realistic. We are scoring for fun and giving teams below us a football lesson. I have seen us improve all season and think next season we will kick on again.

    ReplyDelete
  109. So why even bother making him a tranfer target in the jan window? The deal could of been done and may end up costing the owners money if we don't make 4th spot.
The manager clearly wanted him now so they should of backed him.

    ReplyDelete
  110. I'm not sure if his contract ends in the summer or it will be the final year. Either way, Reading were ready to pay top dollar for him.

    ReplyDelete
  111. I thought BR could have brought in Wisdom at right back or shift Downing to left back and bring Sterling/Allen/Shelvey in place of Enrique. As soon as Skrtel was brought in as a sub i had a pretty bad feeling and then after a few minutes there he is again.Either it was a mis-communication between him and Reina or was it Skrtel ushering Reina to go for the ball it was a stupid mistake.A well deserved three points was on the cards but a point nonetheless.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Where are all those Sturridge haters who had written him off before he even kicked a ball? Deathly silence

    ReplyDelete
  113. Right. So it wasn't worth completely writing him off before he even kicked a ball then?

    ReplyDelete
  114. Hear hear. Jason bores me

    ReplyDelete
  115. He's obviously making a lot of friends on here.

    ReplyDelete
  116. Read on several websites that Blackpool have an option to extend his contract by a year. Don't know though whether Ince still has to agree with that extension.

    ReplyDelete
  117. If he was on coke his ego would almost explode and he'd become complacent for thinking he's invincible, though speed may make him more aware. Given what he did yesterday he rather was on coke.

    ReplyDelete
  118. Wouldn't replace 19-year-old Robinson yet. He surely has some more time to prove his worth, and to improve as a player.

    ReplyDelete
  119. Can't remember when Torres last was at 80%. Surely not in our last season with us or ever since.

    ReplyDelete
  120. lol m8 it must be hard to be the perfect fan like yourself and be happy with any old sh1te thats served up to you

  124. Of all the people I have met in my entire life, in real life or on the internet, pen-pals, workmates, fellow students, you name it, you are the one who misjudges me the most, by a country mile. And you obviously still don't see the difference in how I try to communicate with you and how those two above for example do it.
