ESPN have censured ESPN football commentator Jon Champion for his comments about Luis Suarez during Mansfield's FA Cup defeat against Newcastle last night.
After Liverpool scored as a result of a Luis Suarez handball, Champion described the goal in the following terms:
"Suarez has scored by illegal, nefarious means. That is the work of a cheat"
Today, ESPN have issued a statement indirectly criticising Champions for his comments. It reads:
“We take our responsibility to deliver the highest standards of coverage to our viewers. ESPN’s editorial policy is for commentators to be unbiased and honest, to call things as they see them.
"Inevitably this can involve treading a fine line on occasion, especially in the heat of the moment. Comments during the Mansfield v Liverpool match caused offence where none was intended and we have spoken to our commentator about this incident.”
NOTE: Anyone personally insulting Champion, Suarez or anyone else will be banned.

LOL Mansfield defeat against Newcastle last night .....
ReplyDeletewell done espn
ReplyDeleteAll this ridiculously over the top media attention to yesterdays incident must be getting to you Jamie!! ;-)
ReplyDeleteOthers player in the world making goal they want to wining golden award. But Luis Suarez keep scoring the goal to let Liverpool fc still alive any competition. This is the fact and diffrently Suarez with others. Before this nobody has talking about reffree refuse to allowed the goal him scored. Please be fair...
ReplyDeleteJon champion should say sorry. Wasn't right what he said.... He should be man enough to say sorry.
ReplyDeleteit happens the world over. in every walk of life. suarez and champion are only human. let it go.
ReplyDeleteWhy not you ask the reffree "why you sleeping during the games?".
ReplyDeletefact at the end of the day suarez is top class
ReplyDeleteIf ESPN can apologise, then surely Jamie Kanwar can too?
ReplyDeleteI think thats fair. People do/say things in the heat of the moment, I wasn't happy at the time but a simple sorry often does help.
ReplyDeleteHi Jamie
ReplyDeleteI'd like to know which team you'll be supporting on Sunday?
Actually Champion also said something like 'Suarez is showing his hand to the Mansfield fans' when in fact he was kissing his wrist-was out of order and he should know better. He inflamed the situation.
ReplyDeleteBrilliant.....Champion was well out of order....would he have said as much had it been Stevie G or a British player?...he saw a chance to jump on the "we hate Suarez especially because he's foreign and if we're being honest Liverpool" bandwagon....and no I'm not a paranoid scouser!!:-))
ReplyDeleteITV's comments on the highlight show need some apology too and were bordering on racist. Presenter said at the end something like..."Hand of God? Well he's not quite Maradona but he's South American"
ReplyDeleteWhats that supposed to mean?
Where is the official link to the statement? no one could provide one on twitter they just posted what you've said, i want to see it form the horses mouth
ReplyDeleteleave off him m8 he wanted his 15minutes of fame and what easier way to do it than jump on the suarez bandwagon,i,am sure they will be plenty of ex pros making a few bucks in the papers today slating him hes an easy target ever since the evra inccident fergie made sure of that, calling for him to be kicked out of the league,no comment on cantona, ferdinand, ect, ect
ReplyDeleteThis entire thing has been blown way out of proportion. Neither Suarez nor Champion are monsters because of what they say or do. There are much more pressing issues on this planet than what a football commentator has said.
ReplyDeleteMr Champion clearly isn't a Liverpool supporter and, hands on heart, who of us wouldn't have made such a remark would we be in a situation to comment on a Man U match where Rooney does something debatable.
Any of our players would have been asked to publicly apologise for any misbehaviour, so it is just about right that ESPN apologises for what one of their employees did. Now forget about it, don't make a mountain out of a molehill (this is aimed at the media) and move on.
Lol... English please man
ReplyDeleteKill the witch! Burn him at the stake! Take all of his nutmeg and bury it in the deepest hole you can find!
ReplyDeleteGreat photo in the Liverpool Echo, no one noticed yet but Suarez has his eyes closed when the ball hits his hand. Proof of no intent.
ReplyDeleteBefore making such a comment you may first find out whether the comment came from a native speaker or not. I surely understood what Zanz wrote. If you didn't you may enrol for a comprehensive course.
ReplyDeleteYou're an odd one Jamie. Telling us not to insult Suarez when you were ripping into him last night calling him a cheat. You're always saying everyone is entitled to their opinion but what you really mean is you can say what you want and if we do we get banned unless.
ReplyDeleteGet your facts right: I called Suarez a cheat on FACEBOOK, not on the site. Plus, in my view, he is a cheat overall. That is not an insult, it is a statement of fact. As a comparison, if you call a proven thief a thief, is that an insult? No, it's statement of fact.
ReplyDeleteHey SA_Red - I'd appreciate it if you didn't highlight such things. Zanz's comment is perfectly understandable. Cheers. JK
ReplyDeleteDear God commentators say stuff like this all the time. It would be boring as hell if football commentary wasn't emotional and subjective. Way to overreact. The people who complained about it should really get a life.
ReplyDeleteThe Liverpool Echo is now reporting the same thing. Good enough for you?
ReplyDeletehttp://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/liverpool-fc/liverpool-fc-news/2013/01/07/100252-32560355/?
This has happened because of LFC fans and their gigantic victim complex. Everyone is against LFC; it's a refereeing conspiracy; Suarez is a victim; everyone hates LFC; nothing happens to other teams, and the only victims in world football are LFC etc. It's ridiculous.
ReplyDeleteDid you just delete my comment and your reply comment? You must not be confident in your own statements. My reply was going to be "You always try talk your way out of everything. You called him a cheat
ReplyDeletefor last nights incident and that was far from fact he cheated. You own
Suarez an apology too, but you don't have in in you to admit you made a
mistake."
You're starting to sound like a United fan.
ReplyDeleteFact is Suarez is one of the leading lights in world football right now and we'd be absolutely lost without him!
ReplyDeleteNo Eric or Jaimie its not an overreaction. Just as we applaud balanced journalism (even Sky showed some good balanced journalism today reporting this story!) we abhore shameful biased reporting from a media that is supposed to be neutral.
ReplyDeleteI pay my subscription to ESPN and I EXPECT in return a fair and unbiased commentary. ESPN won the license to screen these games from the FA on this basis and failure to do so is in breach of this as well as in breach of the TV Broadcasting regulations.
Likewise ITV is bordering on racism in its comment at the end of their show.
Just because us Liverpool Fans have an opinion why do you insult us assuming we have a complex. We're entitled to our opinions.
how do you know it was because of lfc fans it dose not state that espn have recieved any complaints,re your the only victims in world football, comment imo its in extreme bad taste i seem to remember a less than popular paper running with comments such as these
ReplyDeleteSo it annoyed you fine. But to go and actually sit down and complain about it to the broadcaster? I'd think people had better things to do with their time.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely something wrong with the first part of your last post "LFC fans and their gigantic victim complex". I thought YOU were a Liverpool fan, Jaimie? That statement infers that you are not.
ReplyDeleteHere's what Brendan said about Suarez:
ReplyDelete'He has had seven yellow cards this year, but he hasn't warranted all seven,' said Rodgers.'He is a wonderful professional. I think in this country we need to enjoy it whilst he is here because he is a brilliant talent.'He is a good man as well, a good family man, and as a manager, he is someone who wants to come in and work. He wanted to start yesterday's game, even though he has really been my only striker for the last six months.'Yesterday was a game he was up for because it was street football for him, he enjoys that type of game.'But I can only talk about his talents. I always try to educate the players, with regard to every aspect of their life. As I've said, he's very receptive, and we go forward with him.'
Jamie isn't a Liverpool fan that's clear. You don't have to be that intelligent to recognize the taunt of an opposing fan. United or Newcastle would be my guess. He does bring everyone together talking and debating I'll give him that.
ReplyDeleteNonsense. Just because I'm a fan doesn't mean I can't criticise other fans. I completely reject mob-menatlity and groupthink when it comes to the concept of being a fan. A growing section of Liverpool fans continue to perpetuate the stupid victim complex, and I disagree with that approach. Doesn't mean I'm not a fan at all, it just means I do not support that movement.
ReplyDeleteWhy do you and others insist that every fan must be the same? If it was down to you, then everyone would just have the same opinions about everything, and everyone would just follow the crowd.
As an analogy: Should every Christian/Muslim/Buddhist/Insert religion here just agree with and accept the actions of everyone else who happens to follow the same religion? If they disagree with and/or criticise someone else of the same belief system, does that then mean they're actually not believers?!
According to Rodgers, Suarez hasn't warranted *any* yellow cards. He hasn't accepted a single one when asked this season, and in every case, Rodgers has argued that Suarez didn't deserve the yellow. Like so many fans, he also blindly defends Suarez irrespective of what he does.
ReplyDeleteJust go and visit other LFC forums and you will see threads where members are exhorting other members to email ESPN and complain.
ReplyDeleteIn my 28 years experience of being an LFC fan, no other club has as much of a self-perpetuated victim complex (re football matters) than LFC. Managers like Benitez, Dalglish and now Rodgers are culpable for continuing it, and the fans lap it up.
ReplyDeleteAccording to some LFC fans, everyone is against the club: the FA, other clubs, other payers, the press, referees etc. Liverpool get treated worse than everyone else and blah blah blah. When faced with irrefutable proof that this is not the case, they still won't accept it.
The overwrought complaints are a complete joke, and makes the club looks stupid. It's also massively insular; LFC fans will happily wail and complain about stuff that happens to the club, but when the same stuff is perpetrated by LFC, they go silent, and don't give a toss.
That puts me in direct conflict with a lot of fans, who expect every fan to act the same way, have the same views etc. If you don't, you're deemed to be a traitor etc.
Well, suits me fine. I'd rather be honest and have my own views than just follow the crowd for some kind of twisted acceptance.
No. you are repeatedly sniping/hinting I'm a United fan etc. *READ THE COMMENT POLICY* - sniping is outlawed. If you want to snipe, go elsewhere. If you want to post about football, go ahead. Attack the argument, not the person. If you can't do that, then you're not welcome here.
ReplyDeletefair enough if thats the case, but your constant critisism of suarez helps fuel this kind of behavour, sorry m8 but this is the 3rd post you have run on the same subject in less than 24 hours, and as you know some of your regular posters managed to get bans after the 1st post, you never run anything posotive on suarez so naturally more and more people are going to be more vocal and venomous with there replys to these posts, iam not saying dont run them but in this event i do think your making a mountain out of a molehill,he did not cheat so there is no story, please feel free to run posts if he dose ;-)
ReplyDeleteRAWK, by any chance?
ReplyDeleteSo if a group of fans disagree with your opinion, it is mob mentality? I think you will find that you were simple wrong in publishing the article as you are one of the very few who think that he cheated intentionally and have tried to jump on the media bandwagon and make a story out of it because it is Suarez. Even the Mansfield Manager and players don't blame him but you do and a special word for the Mansfield manager after he spoke so well about the situation and summed it up very nicely, no drama, no bull, just an honest assessment. It appears as though you are only annoyed because the majority of fans completely disagree with you on this one. You should be ashamed to be referring to your fellow fans as a mob. I am not saying all your articles are not valid and make some good points but this one is way wide of the mark. Like one guy posted earlier, do you want us to replay the CL final with Milan because Dudek was well off his line when saving the pen. He also broke the rules and that is a more deliberate act to what Suarez did so you want us to replay it or do you think Dudek should have apologised to the Ref and asked him if the striker could take the pen again?
ReplyDeletesuarez handball was unintentional.. we all know that. messi handball was a deliberate one. y dont call lionel messi a cheater? also all players make fouls.. why dont we call of them cheaters? another way in looking at it.-united got 4 unjustified mins of extra time against westham, and they scored.. no one calling them cheaters despite we all know they didnt deserve it? y? coz they say the ref took that decision to give these 4 mins and united wasnt at fault for taking advantage of that. absolutely true! same should be said for the suarez case.. intentional or not (definitely not intentional though), ref gave the goal..right or wrong he might be, but suarez is not at fault. credit to him for putting the ball deep into the net :) long live our luis!
ReplyDeleteHaving read back what I typed below I sound old and like my dad - jeez!
ReplyDeleteThe current generation which I call the twitter generation is full of bleeding heart fans that you describe above. They are the most visible on the internet but in no way portrays the majority of us fans that actually go to games but dont bother to post on forums and twitter etc so you dont get to see a true demographic spread of opinions.
Today was my first ever time to post on this or any site and am enjoying swapping opinions though.
Back to the issue at hand and this is just my opinion, you cant tar all fans with the same brush and just because some take exception to the way things are reported and complain about it doesnt make them have a victim complex.
Thanks for posting - it's much appreciated :-)
ReplyDeleteYou're right, I should make it clearer that I'm only referring to a subset of fans. I'll do that in future.
Does anyone else think the ITV commentator was a bit out of order with his comments. He said something like "Hand of God? Well he's not quite Maradonna, but he's South American"
ReplyDeleteHow is a viewer to interpret that? If you replace Maradonna with Marceille Dessaily and South American with "Black" doesn't this come close to being racist ala Ron Atkinson?
Whilst South American is not seen as a racist term and Black used in the wrong way IS RACIST, arent ITV guilty of being xenophobic if not racist?
Well said. But while most publications are slating Luis, Sky's Rob Parrish argues a case for Suarez (http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/12040/8384772/In-defence-of-Suarez). As you'll note his argument is pretty sound which leave me with one conclusion. There is an argument for 'ball to hand' as well as a 'hand ball' but only Suarex knows whether there was intent. The only thing I wish Luis would have done is told the ref that the ball hit his hand. The ref would have still given the goal since he originally said it was ball to hand but the intent from Luis would have massively helped his image. I'm not slating him for not doing it, but I'm just saying it would have been smart on his part to do that and get the media off his case. Like Parrish says, headlines today might have read "Unluck Mansfield" and not "Cheat Suarez" if he admitted the handball to the ref

ReplyDeleteTechnically what he said was correct, just maybe he said it slightly wrong, as it sounded very personal, and no one will ever know if it was intended or not, so saying it was the work of a cheat is a bit over the top.
ReplyDeleteVery unbecoming of a commentator to pass judgment immediately. He fanned the Suarez hatred flame. And Suarez always kiss his wrist when he scores.
ReplyDeleteWell done ESPN to label someones character for handball is absolutely ridiculous........
ReplyDeleteWho said journalists are impartial........although its well known that the proffesion attracts individuals whose moral compass is set very high
ReplyDeleteWhat is a shame is it has taken away from Sturridge scoring on his debut, esp after every pundit going seems to not think he is any good. Jamie can we get an article on Sturridges first game? like how he did etc?
ReplyDeleteFair play to mansfields boss, his comments were spot on & like brendan said if it was any other player we wouldnt be talkin about it, it clearly wasnt a goal but the officials are well paid to do their job & for once a decision went our way, as for running luis downty
ReplyDeleteI think that Luis Suarez is the unluckiest man in football. The god's must have conspired against him in an effort to bring him down. He can't do anything right it seems like. He once nibbled on a player's ear while still playing at Ajax and the media blew that out of proportion "clearly". Something that clearly happens in the game of football every now and then. Don't see the big deal there.
ReplyDeleteAnother time he got into a heated and passionate discussion with Patrice Evra where he proceeded to explain to a black man ,Evra about black people. That got blown out of proportion by the media of-course and the conversation cleared up that particular mystery for Evra.
Then there was the time when Suarez handled the ball at the world cup 0f 2010 while standing at the goal line in a game between Uruguay and Ghana. He did it for his country so it is not cheating. That was again misunderstood by the media who blew it out of proportion.
Then in a separate incident Suarez was tripped up by an imaginary defender in a game against Stoke earlier this season. Turns out that the law of gravity operates differently for Luis Suarez. It brought more negative attention to the striker who is no stranger to controversy.
Then there is the handball in his winning goal against Mansfield Town yesterday. Like most fans ofcourse i am happy we advanced in the FA cup but i got to say that we were lucky to get away with that.
Luis Suarez wouldn't be Luis Suarez if he weren't surrounded by controversy. I believe he thrives in it. A lot of people say that Suarez was a victim of a couple of unfortunate circumstances which for some unknown reason the media have sworn to destroy him of them. I don't know why they would have a conspiracy against him alone and not even bigger fish like Messi or Ronaldo. It is a shame to see a talented individual caught up in all these controversies. Not one member of any of our 34 member first team Liverpool squad has been this troubled. No one else in the modern game of football has been this troubled certainly not other marquee stars Messi , Ronaldo or even Neymar. These players are just as talented as Suarez but somehow manage to avoid all the media scrutiny attracted by Saurez. Guess he is just born unlucky thus "the unluckiest man in all football."
plus the first bit of his name is awesome :-)
ReplyDeleteHave you any facts or proof to back this statement up?This is just wild speculation Jaimie. To characterize all liverpool fans in this one size fits way is a bizarre opinion as you are a fan........
ReplyDeleteyes you are spot on. Personally I think neither would be a wrong thing to say, but I do agree that certain forms of Racist stuff does get more media hype, and delt with more than others. For me being Racist is no better or worse than throwing any insult out there, if done on the pitch of by fans, however it is ok to insult someones mum, or sister, or sexua1 preference but not the color of their skin??? That is something I have never got. All forms of insults are wrong. However when just stating a fact I think it should be ok, and we often go over the top.
ReplyDeleteAt work I was told by a lawyer who was doing "diversity training" for us, if attacked in the street by a man, giving there color to describe them would be Racist. I was like "you what" but that is one of the main things you need to know what he looks like to catch him. I`m guessing then saying their height might offend short or tall people, eye color too. So this is my report after being attack
"The attacker was.... and had a knife" Fingers crossed they find the person soon.
Ok slightly random, but my point is, sometimes using the word Black is ok, sometimes saying where someone is from is ok, and maybe we should go a bit easier on some folks who arent Racist but have there whole lifes ruined by being labelled it wrongly. Then crack down on proper Racists.
agree but espn cannot be held responsive for every person they hire
ReplyDeleteWell, where I come from the aim is for journalism to be impartial indeed. The press is considered (in theory, or maybe even in my sentimental view of a better world) as the fourth state authority (I believe in the UK it's called the "fourth estate") next to executive, legislative and judiciary. Therefore the media in general should be impartial. I know that reality is different. A paper like the unnameable or the Daily Mail wouldn't exist if the media would do what they should do (inform, not entertain and stir up).
ReplyDeleteYes champion was bang out of order. It was contrived self righteousness. It wasnt a blatant handball - no one runs with their hands tied behind their back it ricocheted of the goalkeeper onto his arm -for champion to be judge jury and executioner was extremely unfair. This issue is being bloated out of all contexxt. Why wasnt there a similar outcry over the chap who looked up and carried on rolling to get an opponent sent off? Its not racism or anti suarez drive its simply because at the moment only sex and suarez sells.
ReplyDeleteI agree it's one of those "In the heat of the moment" things, istill enjoy his commentaries.Kudo to ESPN.
ReplyDelete"He looked sheepish enough not to repeat the claim of his fellow South American Diego Maradona that it was the work of God but you didn't have to be a supporter of Mansfield to believe that he had come off the bench with diabolical intent."
ReplyDeletehttp://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/news-and-comment/james-lawton-the-hand-of-god-no-this-was-a-diabolical-act-from-luis-suarez-that-cast-a-shadow-over-the-fa-cup-8440282.html
This is the best laugh ive had in ages, as if suarez was plotting his evil deeds on the bench before coming on....
And now you're insinuating that I insist every other fan has to be the same as me?
ReplyDeleteI don't follow any crowds, never have done and will always stand on my own when i know that I'm right: a bit like yourself. The main difference is that I do not throw up inflammatory threads online to gauge other people's reactions or whatever reason you print what you do.
I've been a fan for 30-odd years. I know what's missing from the team, I know when we have good players and I know when we have a waste of a pay cheque wearing the red shirt.
I also know an attention seeker when I see one but I can also see a businessman at work: the ad providers pay more when the site gets more hits, is that your reason for controversy?
No it doesn't! He states he hasn't warranted "all seven" that means he hasn't warranted ALL SEVEN, just some of them - anyone who can read English can understand that.
ReplyDeleteWell said!! Never anything good to say about Suarez!! You called him a cheat on numerous occasions in regards to what happened yesterday. I haven't seen one manager/player/explayer say he did something wrong or have labelled him a cheat. Even Graham Poll said he did nothing wrong.
ReplyDelete'Suarez sees the ball rebound from the Mansfield Town goalkeeper, Alan
Marriott, and tries to get his arms out of the way” – Graham Poll
(writing in the Daily Mail)
“I don’t think he (Suarez) did anything wrong.” – Mansfield Manager Paul Cox
“Despite being an Evertonian I don’t think Suarez did anything wrong
today. He clearly thought his goal would be disallowed for hand-ball.” –
Mike Parry
I'm not referring to what Rodgers said there, I'm referring to the reality. Not once this season has Rodgers admitted in a post-match press conference/interview that Suarez deserved any of the yellow cards. On every occasion, he's defended Suarez and argued that the yellow was unwarranted. Check out the press conferences on the LFC site; they're all there.
ReplyDeleteHow can every single yellow card he gets be unfair? The answer is, they're not. Rodgers is just as bad as fans when it comes to blindly defending Suarez, and it's massively irresponsible. You'd never see him do a Moyes or a Wenger and actually admit when one of his players does something wrong, and that is not good.
Champion just aint no Champion , thats for sure . When an opposing player deliberately fouls another who is clear on goal . Does he called the offending player a cheat and all kinds of names . When a goalkeeper deliberately brings down a striker is that player called a cheat , no of course not. When a player concedes a corner and the referee does not give it , does MR Chumpion call that player a cheat because he didnt run to the ref and say hey you should have given a corner to the opposition .
ReplyDeleteSuarez is just getting bad press because he is a foreigner. Manchester United got tons of controversial decisions going their way last season but did Mr Chumpion call any of them cheats . His just scared of his uncle Sir Alex Ferguson , of course
Probably because you have interacted with Liverpool fans more than other team's.....
ReplyDeleteMy first thought was that Suarez could sue ESPN, maybe his is what prompted their apology
ReplyDeleteTechincally speaking, ESPN didn't really apologise though. They just said they'd spoken to Champion.
ReplyDeleteSarcastic tosh, what a "support" er you are, that sounded more like what what youd expect from a manc
ReplyDeleteHow did that not get picked up by the swear filter?
ReplyDeleteEum...Wenger has never seen anything unless it's the opposition who did it. It's called being a good manager. No one knows what is said behind closed doors.
ReplyDeleteWell yeah but English people can't be racist in England. Just foreigners.
ReplyDeleteUnprecedented back down to a degree. Not an apology....
ReplyDeleteThe Mansfield chairman is now laying into Suarez, accusing him of cheating, and saying that LFC Directors were 'embarrassed' by the handball.
ReplyDeleteThis is why I really despair of modern Liverpool. Why oh why couldn't someone from the club just fecking apologise for the injustice? Express some kind of sympathy? Display the slightest bit of humility over such a fortuitous goal? It wouldn't have meant admitting Suarez cheated, but just acknowledging that something massively unfair had taken place.
If the club had done that, then perhaps the negative media reaction would not be snowballing right now.
Instead, we get the same response as we got during the Evra situation: defiance and defensiveness, from the club, and from the fans.
The club has learned *nothing* since the Evra situation, and Rodgers is just as bad as Dalglish at his enabling protection of Suarez.
It's sickening.
Maybe because it was a question, and not an insult.
ReplyDeleteRAWK is a swear word on this site!
ReplyDeletei agree it would have been the decent thing to acknowledge it was unfair. It wouldn't have affected the ridiculous media reaction though.
ReplyDeleteP.s You still have it down as a newcastle win yesterday.
It certainly is. Perhaps I'll add it to the filter...
ReplyDeletePhil Neville saved a shot on the goaline in a Derby a few years ago just like Suarez. he also did a ridiculous dive a few weeks ago just like Suarez.
ReplyDeleteHow much media attention was focussed on those incidents. I remember the commentator after the dive making light of it . No furore. Neville did apologise, but the treatment was SO different.
I agree , Rodgers could and should have acknowledged the fortuitous nature of the goal. But would it have stopped all the fuss?
Doubt it.
Just like despite the FA, Man Utd, and Evra himself stating that they didn't consider Suarez a racist, racist is how he is portrayed- and associated with
this time, despite most analysts concluding that it was unintentional, and NOBODY but Suarez himself knowing it for sure- A cheat is how he is portrayed- and associated with
And you can quote as many posts as you like to claim that that isn't true.
But ask yourself- How many times sre the words Suarez, and Cheat mentioned together or in the same headline? with or without a question mark?
I could have sworn that brendan admitted it was handball, he didnt say he,d developed myopia or something along the lines of what ive heard the likes of wenger & fergie in the past, moyes is suddenly held up as a shining beacon of integrity because of the fellaini incident yet in the past the guy has defended some atrocious decisions or conveniently failed to see them, as for this victim complex lfc are supposed to have, its a shame to hear something started in the southern press after the new hillsborough enquiry being repeated on a lfc website
ReplyDeleteNever read the independent & if thats the sort of baloney they write i wouldnt use it if i was camping either, lol
ReplyDeleteThe Mansfield chairman should worry about his questionable way of picking a CEO based on who he's in bed with rather than who's the best person for the job.People who live in glass houses...
ReplyDeleteHow about Newcastle though? After such a good season last year, it's all come to a grinding halt. I wonder how much longer before they start selling their best players and manager for life Pardew gets the sack...
ReplyDeleteIn that case I'll moderate myself.
ReplyDeleteI say we take the win and move on. The only cheat in this game was the referee. He cheated Mansfield. We got a bonus. luck of the draw.
ReplyDeleteSuarez will continue to get stick all year round. As long as he keeps scoring with any of his anatomy and the goal is given. Fine by me.
With the greatest respect rubyrm, this is precisely the attitude that makes Liverpool so hated these days. The point is, the club should aspire to be *bigger* that this pettiness. It should see past the need to attribute blame, and look at the bigger picture. The same thing happened under Dalglish: at the time of the Evra incident, the entire club was defensive, pigheaded and insular; totally unwilling to show any kind of humility. That backfired, and the club was ultimately forced into humiliating public apologies (Dalglish and Suarez).
ReplyDeleteIt disturbs me that there is no one at LFC who's take a look at this situation and thought 'We're better than this - let's apologise for the goal and show a bit of humility'.
It's a disgrace IMO.
Did anyone apologize when a perfectly good Suarez goal was disallowed against Everton costing Liverpool 2 points . Did anyone apologize when last season another perfectly good Suarez goal was disallowed when Liverpool played Fulham again costing Liverpool points .
ReplyDeleteAgainst Newcastle last season a Newcastle defender clearly handled on the line , no penalty was awarded to Liverpool when it clearly was a penalty . Was that Newcastle player called a cheat . Did the press make an issue of that incident , no they did not . Newcastle than went on to score a clearly offside goal which was awarded as a goal . Did anyone apologize to Liverpool for that . No .
Suarez and Liverpool are getting the rough end of the deal .
The fact is he cheated and the ESPN commentator told the truth but that is football today, played by a lot of overpaid prima donnas who are encouraged to think they can do no wrong. What an example to young people.
ReplyDeleteThere are no facts that he cheated . Go and read the rules of football .
ReplyDeleteThe ball struck Suarez hand . He had no time to react as he was very close . He did not deliberately reach for the ball with his hand so before you call him a cheat , get the facts.
Umm Jamie . You mentioned you would prefer RVP to Suarez because Suarez is not an honest player ??? this was said in some other post of yours , correct ?
ReplyDeleteWell jog your memory a bit about RVP
Cast your mind back to Arsenal versus Liverpool one or two seasons ago . Van Persie jump up reached up and deliberatly blocked the ball with his hand in the penallty area , right in front of the goal posts. Far mor deliberate than Suarez and he got scott free away . Did he fess up , Nah.
Seems you may have blinkered vision
