'We've spoken to him' - ESPN slams commentator over Suarez 'Cheat' slur. Fair?

ESPN have censured ESPN football commentator Jon Champion for his comments about Luis Suarez during Mansfield's FA Cup defeat against Newcastle last night.

After Liverpool scored as a result of a Luis Suarez handball, Champion described the goal in the following terms:

"Suarez has scored by illegal, nefarious means. That is the work of a cheat"

Today, ESPN have issued a statement indirectly criticising Champions for his comments. It reads:

“We take our responsibility to deliver the highest standards of coverage to our viewers. ESPN’s editorial policy is for commentators to be unbiased and honest, to call things as they see them.

"Inevitably this can involve treading a fine line on occasion, especially in the heat of the moment. Comments during the Mansfield v Liverpool match caused offence where none was intended and we have spoken to our commentator about this incident.”

NOTE: Anyone personally insulting Champion, Suarez or anyone else will be banned.
