Transfer Update: BR on Ince/Butland/Jan plans, & bad news about Enrique.

Are Thomas Ince and Jack Butland on the way to Anfield? Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers provided an emphatic answer to that question in his pre-mansfield press conference at 2pm this afternoon.

When asked directly if there was any movement on the Ince deal, Rodgers simply said 'No'.

He was then asked if Liverpool are interested in signing Butland, and again he said 'No', adding:

"We're not going to have a lot of money to do anything in the window.

"There might be one other transfer, but there's not much more business to be done".

Rodgers also revealed some bad news about Jose Enrique's injury layoff:

"It looks like he'll be out for up to six weeks with his hamstring. It's a shame because in the game he felt nothing. It's a shame because he's been incredible in the games before that"

  1. i don't like our options at left back. i know glen can cover and downing as well but that just creates weakness on our right hand side. wisdom will be great but still young and raw and at times looks like deer caught in head lights, anyone remember the everton match. i hope jack robinson puts his big boy pants on soon. i thought i had heard some news about pablo armero the columbian left wing/back from udinese. ince should be coming thru and if we sign butland i hope we just let him stay at loan with birmingham.

  2. ince it'll be...blackpool will def accept the offer

  3. I think its a case of waiting to see if any players are sold.

If Reina is unhappy (made two great saves against sunderland) and a decent offer comes in, then he could be on his way which would mean Butland coming in.

Downing could still be sold if again we get a decent offer.  If he does get sold, then Ince could come in and fill the void.

West Ham have a decision to make on Andy Carroll.  I wouldnt be surprised to see him return to LFC at some point in the next 27 days.

From Twitter and such, If LFC were to receive a bid of around £8m for Henderson, it would be accepted.  Again this would free up a space in the squad for a possible CAM - Schneider....

  4. LFC please get sign Christian Erikson and Dries Merten to complete foward force.

  5. Read a report earlier today, can't remember the source which could be one of the least reliable ones, that Ince's father has now joined negotiations with Blackpool in order to make the move happen.

Generally I am content with our transfer dealings right now. We were short up front and have signed a striker. Borini will also return from injury. We are stacked in midfield and maybe a bit short when it comes to back-up at left-back. Guess Robinson will get a few games this season. Keep playing and assessing our youngster Brendan. That'll save us a few bob.

  6. Damn really sad for enrique, been superb thus far will be hugely missed, as for ince butland hope we dont get them, look at chelsea they just got ba for only 7m and we go and give almost double for strurridge, how lame is that, why didnt rodgers go for demba hes miles better than sturtidge plus a proven goalscorer, another class striker must arrive here if we want that top 4

    ReplyDelete
  7. yeah I heard that too, I think we will get Ince, and that will be it done, which tbh I`m happy with. It should have filled a few gaps, and should see us through fine until the end of the season. No point spending too much right now, as if we hit fourth, we will be able to sign a lot better players, so as we are covered ok in most areas, better to let the team gel. If we get Ince too, we will have better options up top.

Like you said Borini will be back, and we will have Sturridge and also Ince as extras.

  8. To sell Henderson now that he has finally started finding his feet would be pure madness.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Can't believe am saying this but, selling Downing and Henderson this month would be lfc's biggest farce in a long time. The amount of flack both have had to take, and the way they've took it all in stride, and over time they've both internalized "the rodgers plan" better than everyone else in my opinion.
Even over next summer, unless we're assured of the signature of a player of Alexis Sanchez's or Mario Gotze's calibre, I would stick with hendo and downing. And even if lfc scouts somehow pull such a player from under their as-yet-unimpressive magician's hats, we should consider replacing players like Assaidi or Sahin first. Again, tough call on Assaidi because the little we've seen of him has been impressive but Rodgers seems reluctant to play him so rather than letting him rot on the bench, bring a player he prefers in, and let Assaidi go entertain another set of fans.

  10. why the f"ck as rodgers loaned morgan out the game on sunday would have been the ideal time to give him a run

Il be happy with ince coming in.... Big business will happen in the summer.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Of course Brendan Rodgres knows that Ba is far superior to Sturridge, but unfortunately no-one of Ba's calibre is going to sign for us, whilst we are languishing in the doldrums. You and those like you need to wake up and smell the coffee, the aroma of which has been in the air for several years now. We just aren't a big draw for most players any more - 22 years without winning the title are taking their toll.

    ReplyDelete
  13. if we sign ince fsg will have done big deals now or what we can expect as big deale ,if they were serious about the club they would give him the money now and try and push on for a champions league place

    ReplyDelete
  14. jaimie when are you going to name me as the winner of the competition lol

    ReplyDelete
  15. Liverpool has been unimpressive during the transfer window of late. Brought in Sturridge early only out of desperation due to mistake made last summer on deadline day. Who can forget that drama as we saw a breakdown in communication between the owners and manager which ultimately led to our not signing Dempsey and also led to John Henry's open letter to the fans. We have now seen Liverpool pursue one of it's own players that it sold 18 months ago for 250,000 pounds to Blackpool. Tom Ince was offloaded to Blackpool where he seemed to flourish and now Liverpool want him back. Turns out that Blackpool would like much more than 250,000 quid ofcourse more like 6million while Liverpool won't pay more than more than 4 million so there in lies the problem. This is the reason for the "no" from Rodgers in regards to the  Ince deal. Sad to hear that we are not going after Butland or Ince, but this season saving money has always been the priority over anything else.

Just hope that I am still around when we finally get the balance right. That is to once again remain really competitive against major clubs in our transfer dealings while at the same time able to keep our  financial books properly balanced. To listen to Rodgers it would appear that we are not capable of doing both at the same time right now.

  16. liverpool4life5654:23 pm, January 04, 2013

No, they wouldn't..... They are planning to give Rodgers more money in the summer, I rather not pay inflated prices for players. Everything takes time. If you rush something it always goes wrong.... If it do it calmly and over time it goes fine....

  17. liverpool4life5654:25 pm, January 04, 2013

Ba's overall deal would of been expensive.... Because of so many agents wanting a piece.... Ba is 27 and his knee can go any time. With sturridge he 23,fast,can play anywhere in the three, can score goals and he can improve.

  18. im guessing there must be a quality component to posts as opposed to straight out quantity. hence your anxiety. LOL !

    ReplyDelete
  19. I though it was pure madness when I read it. He's broken literally every reserve record and can't get a shot in the first team while suso, talented as he is, cant put a shot on goal to save his life. Very dissapointed with that

    ReplyDelete
  20. My first guess would be: never. OriginalChan for me. Not only has he probably the highest quantity of posts to his name, but he also avoids those one-liners and the bickering the likes of you, me, gilstrap and a few others are often found exchanging between themselves (or is it "ourselves"? Where's a grammar teacher when you need him/her).

    ReplyDelete
  21.  If thats the criteria i should walk it.Lol

    ReplyDelete
  22.  To sell Henderson would be crazy...hes young English and getting better by the game....hes by far liverpools best midfielder IMO at present

    ReplyDelete
  23. While the thought is nice, I can`t see that happening. Until the summer, I think we are still keeping things tight, which makes sense. In the summer we should have more money from the new deals which were done this year. Sturridge gives us the extra striker we needed, and another wide player will give us the extra option too, other than a LB, which can be covered right now, I can`t see us seeing anyone else. unless someone asks to leave.

We are still re-shaping the books, and hopefully Sturridge will give us the extra goals. Will be interesting to see how it works out with  Sturridge playing center and Suarez out wide, could be awesome or could lose us the goals we are getting. I think it will work though.

    ReplyDelete
  24. That's coz there was hardly any opportunity for him to get game time this season... with Sturridge coming and Borini recovering, I don't see BR choosing Morgan over these 3... And even if he does give Morgan some 10-15 mins game time in a couple of games, it would be better if Morgan gets starts at his new club...

    ReplyDelete
  25. I second that.. I have agreed with most of OriginalChan's views.. And the best part is he makes sense both practically and grammatically..

    ReplyDelete
  26. Tom Ince wasn't exactly offloaded. You make it sound as if we didn't want to keep the player. We have offered him several contract extensions which he didn't sign. His contract ran out, and he wanted to go somewhere offering him regular football. Now we have a manager who doesn't shirk playing youngsters.

    ReplyDelete
  27. The thing I'm concerned about is that we seemed to have lost out again on Lewis Holtby to Spurs, for the summer window. If BR is telling the truth, and there is only one more coming in, it means we will miss out on players like Walcott, who will be gone or resigned before the summer, Sneijder, who is a snip even taking wages into account as he's available for free etc etc

If we sent Sahin back to Dortmund or off to Inter, we would save around £85k per week. Even at £200k per week, we could loan Sneijder for the season, costing us £115k per week till the summer, maybe 2-3m total, for a world class player. We paid that much for Sahin to come here on top of his wages, Sneijder would have his next move to play for and we could get an option to buy of,say £12-15m if it worked out,( which is the price of 1 Borini.)

Come to think of it, Sell Pepe to Arsenal for £18-20m , buy Begovic now for £10m and Butland for later and pay Sneijder's wages with any change. Or leave Butland, as Begovic is still young, and get Diame with even more change. What a team we could put out then, without breaking the bank now. Come the summer, EVERYONE will have money to spend, and players will be more expensive than ever and competition will be fierce.

  29. A pity about Enrique. For the past month or so, he has been good. Although this could mean more of Johnson at left back. I may not like Johnson the right back, but I sure like Johnson the left back.

    ReplyDelete
  30. We managed to attract Sahin ahead of Arsenal and Spurs, it's not all gone yet. We managed to keep Agger and Suarez too, they are all better than Ba

    ReplyDelete
  31. Worst case Downing can cover LB too. Enrique has been good, but I think he has done better when played Left mid/front lately.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Sneijder IS available so we should make every effort we can to attract him, it would be a huge signing and he would compliment Suarez so well and add the desperately needed magic in midfield, get rid of Shelvey, Henderson and whoever else we need to. I really do believe we could get him here, Rodgers and FSG make it happen and prove to us your serious about making us the force we once were!

    ReplyDelete
  33. The point you made about everyone will spend in the summer and competition will be fierce is spot on.We should be doing our summer shopping now because our targets if they have quality will be courted by CL sides not only in this country but across Europe. We got SUAREZ in the winter window. It was aided by him acting like MIKE TYSON, but it's possible to get good deals.
When the summer arrives we'll be fighting for the scraps that are left by clubs we're trying to compete with. The final outcome will be expensive average players again!

    ReplyDelete
  34. agree with zanatos, lovely thought, will never happen.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Why are FSG and BRenDOOM hellbent on signing young English players and then saying they have no MONEY to sign Players ...12 MILL for Sturrige now on a risk player who hasnt played this season OVER DEmba BA for 7 MILL a saving of at least 5 Mill and hes scored 13 goals this season ... wheres the sense ...looks like we missed out on Holtby and aslo will miss on Kevin gemeiro as welll ...........................then BrenDOM  says NO signing can tell him where he wants to play and the now says he wants sturridge in the middle and saurez on the wing WTF ...... Saurez is our TOP Striker and he wants to put Sturrige in the CENTRE ... Seriously ....

    ReplyDelete
  36. can't say it would matter if we signed either ince or butland. They wouldn't necessarily have an impact on our season.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Although if we would've bought Pato, we would insist on not paying anything less than £25m

    ReplyDelete
  38. Downing does not cover left back [even worst case]....he's a liability there.!!

    ReplyDelete
  39. After the signing of Sturridge, it might be wise not to make any more signings this window. Yes there are many holes in the team but this window is not the best to improve on. Henderson and Downing have improved and Borini is almost back, by the end of the season we will be judge there contribution to the team. At the end of the season we will have better idea of who we need to pursue. Hopefully in the time in between this window and the next, our scouts will start to finally earn their wages.

    ReplyDelete
  40. That's probably true

    ReplyDelete
  41. I swear to God, Chan boy and Jaimie are the same person. They are both wonderfully articulate, and they always reflect each other's opinions

    ReplyDelete
  42. Maybe not Butland, but Ince could prove to be very handy as another attacking option

    ReplyDelete
  43. I hope you are not being serious. Why would I need to post under a different username on my own site? It's not like I shirk away from debate, is it? OC and I just happen to see things in a similar manner when it comes to LFC. I could easily prove we're too separate people with IP address screen captures etc but that would be ridiculous. Just because people share similar views doesn't mean they're the same person.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Don't think Rodgers rates him that much. Morgan even went on the NexLions tournament (together with Yesil) during this period with all the ruckus about not having enough strikers in the squad. Coincidentally, both looked very poor in the tournament.

    ReplyDelete
  45. You're forgetting that every Prem club will have a share of the massive TV rights money, pushing up prices and increasing competition no end. If we don't get top 4 we will be even more with the also rans which is quite possible, if not likely. Diame, Walcott,Sneijder etc will all be gone or like Holtby signed to pre contracts.

    Now is the time

    ReplyDelete
  46. Enough with the childish name calling already. It isn't big or funny or clever. Ba was looking for the highest bidder, and had a chance to go to a CL club, in fact the holders. 27 with a dicky knee- not the end of the world, complaining all the time about not playing in the centre.

Suarez is hardly a full time CF, the idea is to have fluidity. He scored plenty for Ajax in a wide/no10 role

    ReplyDelete
  47. Ba's knee injury is being called a "ticking time bomb" by Tony Pulis, and I tend to agree with him on that. For all the times people on here complain about certain players being injured all the time, if we added one more who is getting paid to rehab a knee, I'd be pissed too. The injuries and attitude are what I think kept LFC from going after Ba. Yeah, Sturridge has some attitute issues too, but if you have to play him at left, he's not going to pitch a fit like Ba will, and make things miserable. We get to 4th in the table, we can get some bigger names, and FSG might be willing to spend on a big name with Champions League money coming in. This time isn't winning the Prem anytime soon though, but as a rebuild, Sturridge and Ince are good building blocks towards that goal.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I just don't like him on the pitch. He's not as bad as Ryan Babel, you can still get pretty drunk taking a shot every time Johnson gives away the ball going forward.

    ReplyDelete
  49. We need some defenders. I can't see trusting the next six weeks to Glen Johnson. I like Jose Enrique, and he's played well as of late, but between Johnson, Agger and Skertl, there have just been too many holes in the defense already. Ince would be nice to sign, but with Jose out, it's time to sign someone to play back and help Reina out.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Not ever club will. Everton lost 9 million pounds so far, Man City more than that. The new FIFA spending rules are going to limit some of these clubs. To be honest, I'm shocked Liverpool hasn't been hit with the penalties yet. I guess we're still profitable. One more reason I can't hate "Being Liverpool" that much.

    ReplyDelete
  51. yes agree but he could have gone after this weekends game

    ReplyDelete
  52. it did not state anything about quality lol so i have walked it checked on discuss

    ReplyDelete
  54. i wouldn't be too bothered if we only signed two this january.the summer is when your business should be done. the only reason this window is good for us is because of the monumental f*ck up, in leaving ourselves short. you rarely get what you really want in january.

    ReplyDelete
  55. if we wanted him that badly and were prepared to pay what he wanted, the is no reason to suspect that he would have rejected us. simple, he wanted bigger money, newcastle said no, he looked elsewhere to get it...a mercenary. how many times have you heard the phrase 'wanted to win medals or trophies' mentioned, as the motivation for his move away? we have been burnt far too often by paying what is demanded by agents and players, the fact we are now saying 'enough of being taken for a mug', we will look for potential re-sale value, to me, is what we should have been doing years ago. as for not winning the league contributing to us not signing 'top draw' players is rubbish. it's about getting the right players, doing their jobs correctly.  it took manure around 26 years, to win a league title again. right players, right set ups, are what you need. as i've said before, you don't need 'star' players to be successful, we need a 'team', nay, 'squad' of team players, doing their jobs correctly.

    ReplyDelete
  56. dodgy knee and inflated sense of self worth.......why didn't we snap him up!?!?!?!?

    ReplyDelete
  57. sneijder=ridiculous wages. despite his obvious quality, i don't think we should even consider a player who would have little re-sale value........ dear mr. henry/werner, gis a job, i can save you money, go on, gis a go, i can do it.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Are you mad, Hendo is our best midfielder? Gerrard is our best midfielder right now.

    ReplyDelete
  59. They will be sharing £5Bn over three years. The Champions will get £100m for winning the title in 13/14. Top 6 teams can look forward to £50m+.

Now, about that £9m loss you were talking about...

BTW FFP hasn't started properly yet

  72. I think my comment has been interpreted the wrong way by you and JK, lol. Don't be offended anteater, since I started being a regular reader of this forum about 18 months ago, I have seen a lot more of OC than you, and he has 95% of the time totally mirrored JK's opinions. I understand the "I swear" part may have put your interpretation onto the wrong path though...

  73. He is very commanding at crosses, which is one of our weaknesses, is a very good shot stopper and has the best clean sheet record in the Prem. he's also young, and bound to improve, decent kicking ( admittably not as good as Pepe) and ready for a move to a top club. Seen him 1st hand, I think he'd be great for us if Pepe left

    ReplyDelete
  74. stoke want £15m for him apparently.

  75. I started reading and commenting on this website when our manager was one Rafael Benítez. Not so sure whether you have seen a lot more of OC than me.
Unfortunately my old account (anteater) somehow doesn't work anymore, hence my relatively new user-account. If you don't believe me, simply ask Jaimie. He one had a spare ticked (on Boxing day 2010, think it was against Fulham) and offered it on here (to me and other regulars). I didn't take up the opportunity as I wanted to visit my family instead. Thankfully, I may add, as the match had been postponed.

By the way, I didn't mean that part about being insulted serious, hence the smiley at the end of the message.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Yep, I can confirm that's correct. Anteater is one of the longest-serving posters on the site. I think your old account may have been associated with JS-Kit comment system (now replaced with Disqus), which may explain why it doesn't work. Sorry about that :-(

    ReplyDelete
  77. Exactly, it was a JS-kit-account. And the name "anteater" wasn't free anymore on Disqus. Ah well, never mind.

  78. You claim to have made 1000+ comments this year alone? Within 5 days. That makes 200 a day, say you need 4 hours of sleep, don't eat and stuff, well, 10 comments an hour, one every six minutes. It's possible. Unfortunately for you the price was for most prolific commentator of last year.

    ReplyDelete
  79. May I add that back in the old days we agreed much more often than we do now :-) At least now people don't claim that we are associated in one way or another, or even the same person. Everybody knows by now that Jaimie is the same person as Tom Hick, oh no, that was wrong, too, that Jaimie is the same person as OriginalChan, hm, why would he do that. Ah well.
